I Remember the owner telling me a story how they couldn’t get the drivers side header to go up into place years ago, I am willing to bet that they beat the floor up in the process trying years ago.

    these vids will help me alot i just got a 68 firebird that was my uncles and I seen it sit in his garage for years. it sat in his garage for 20 years. i have asked him if I can have the car for along time and one day he told me i can have. i flew to my buddies house in housten. and we drove his truck up to ohio and tow it back down to el paso where i live now. we got her running in one day and the next day i was able to get her to move on her own. not bad for sitting 20 years. my next step is to start fixing all the rust spots from the roads in ohio.

Fixed/ sold/ bought more until I ended up with a 1969 RAIII 4spd firebird as my High Scholl driver in the 80's. I miss them- a little. I received a new trunk lid (AMD 850-3567) and it has a small ding on the edge above the tail light. Some angles its hard to see and other angles its really noticeable. Do u send panles back for small dings or does the person painting the car fix the minor dings? The ding looks like it was hit on the edge and caused a raised aera on the surface of the lid.

      Panel damage during shipping has to be typically noted and returned at the time of receiving. Still worth asking, I would. If it goes to a paint shop I would point it out so that it doesn’t slip by without repair. Most painters/body shop can and do typically fix blemishes and dents prior to paint, for a charge of course. To be honest most panels even is shipped perfectly need a little body work prior to paint it’s almost a bit expected.

      I will be having this one blasted, debating dipping the body but the amount of metal i plan to replace didn’t make dipping cost effective this time. I used to blast them myself in the garage , you can see the MARCO blaster in the corner “for sale” btw but it makes a huge mess so I plan to let someone else this time. The sub frame will get the same treatment too. Lots to do so little time but have fun doing it!

    I spent 10 hours in the garage today pulling apart my 69 Camaro to re-wire it, then went inside to watch other people work on cars. I think I may have a problem. To be honest I was kind of hoping the firewall and under the cowl would be rusty because mine has some rust down there and I am not sure how to tackle it. My dad was the original owner of the car and gave it to me in 1997. The car was "restored" about that same time, the paint still looks nice but when I was pulling the dash out I found a fair bit of rust in the cowl area and on the firewall. Sadly the shop that did the paint used spray foam to fill in the dash rust holes so I got my work cut out for me.

      Spray foam bad!! It happens a lot unfortunately. This car will need the toe boards and torque boxes done. I am super happy this car didn’t need the cowl repaired normally they are rotted like yours. It can be fixed and the history of your car Sounds like it worth it.

      @@VinylVillageGarage It is not terrible, it has been about the same for the past 25-30 years at least and I never noticed till I ripped the dash apart. I am torn on how much to do right now, the car will never be driven in rainy weather. I havent found any replacement panels so it looks like I am going to have to remove the windshield and patch with sheet metal if I want to fix it.

    • @VinylVillageGarage

      The entire cowl panel and dash is available but to replace it as an assembly is a large job. You might be better off like you said make pieces and replace.

      Jegs or summit depending on who has the best deal on shipping at the time. I try to buy AMD when I can but for the part all
      Brands have pro and cons so sometimes I buy what’s available

      Quite a bit I suspect. Never paid anyone to do this kind of work. This car was quoted $108k to do what I am doing, that seems astronomical to me but what I understand not to far from the norm

      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      That’s awesome! A cool family project. The aftermarket panels just aren’t the same as original but in some cases it all you get to work with. Thanks for doing your part to Save another bird. If I can help feel free to ask

      @@VinylVillageGarage it was.. more of an agreement. Haha he helped pay for tech school and in return I restored his car. I'm 28 now with some good body shop experience so I've got some good know-how and such but yeah. These panels are quite the pita.
      I'd love it if you could come help finish this project haha but we are in Massachusetts.
      Currently we have a skeletal structure of the car. Full floors, unisides, firewall, cowl, luggage tray? If you will. Where the rear speakers go. Dry fitting quarters and tail panel have gone horribly.. tail panel to quarters fits awful. Granted. It's just been for dry fit. My dad wants to epoxy the car before we weld any more panels on.

    • @VinylVillageGarage
      @VinylVillageGarage  Před 2 lety +1

      I found that the oer brand quarter skins aren’t close at all to original dimensions, OER full quarters are a little better, but for good fitment with least amount of hassle AMD full quarters have fit best for me.
      Massachusetts it’s out of the question, next week I am flying to Arizona to help a fellow bird builder/friend install a roof panel on his 1967 bird. I wish I could just help people assemble their projects for a living, that would be my dream job. Sounds like your dad is getting a nice return on his investment for sure

    • @coreyward441
      @coreyward441 Před 2 lety

      @@VinylVillageGarage I do not believe they are oer. I can't remember but maybe dinacorn? From ames.
      Haha yeah I wouldn't really expect someone to willingly fly out of the way to fit a couple of panels on a car. Nor would I actually ask someone to do something like that.
      Roof skin we have is also kind of questionable. But then again I have everything to fit so it could be that too. That would be quite the dream job. I'd love to do stuff like that too. But that would not be an easy way to pay the bills haha

    cost is what ur connection are and how good u can restore parts the question is can u do it all from ground up or do u have to send it out to have dun. like my 68 chevy pu right now i have 1400 in it with a stroke 454 and a 02xx 400r turbo which is good to 800 hp stock stage one shift kit 12 bolt possi rebuilt front and back suspension twin electric fans serpentine belt dash is finished with full factory gages new glove box heater core nobs bezels and lense even put chrome vents only cost 250 to do the dash if i got new gauge cluster would cost 1000 bucks but i restored mine and was able to do the dash the whole dash for 250 even put a new cig lighter with light pulled a split bench that looked new black leather out of a land rover for 25 bucks so they are very nice better then they sell at lmc trucks for 2000 bucks then picked up some vinyl too do the door panels which cost 15 bucks i will sew them to look good still thinking on a pattern to do not sure to keep it stock look or go all out on them will have to buy the door arm rests felt and guides all the metal is good glass is real good. all ready tested the rig out had to wrap the headers and put a heat shield on it the only bugs i ran into nice solid truck now drives very good lots of power runs smooth been offered 12,000 for the rig the way it sits before i did the dash still needs final paint job . so the cost is in the builder
