    Update...I found the Kibbe recommendation for DC hair...blunt cut. My curly hair down is blunt cut as I am growing it out. No wonder I get compliments when it is down...I stumbled into having the perfect cut for my body type...even though curly. It is more about the line and sharp edge of the blunt cut matching DC than the type of hair. I’m so glad to know this...I was considering getting it layered. Yikes! Now I have a plan.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  Před 5 lety +4

      YES!! Couldn't agree more. I just drew some pictures for a client trying to explain it's all about the outer shapes, the outer outlines of the hair, and not so much if it's curly or straight. It's also about the texture. Dramatic could have curly hair, except it would be an angular sharp outline, and stiff-textured curls. Romantic could have curly hair, rounded outline, soft textured curls.

    • @elia.0713
      @elia.0713 Před 5 lety

      DC too here and a blunt cut is what my soul needs atm but unfortunately I am stuck with somewhat of a shag cut and I'm growing my hair out now, my bangs are framing my face so they're not on the forehead anymore but there are a lot of layers many of which are short (such as the bangs or a big layer just under my chin)... are there any solutions for making it work apart from growing it out? :(

  • @ES1077
    @ES1077 Před 5 lety +14

    Thank you sooo much! This settles it for me...Dramatic Classic! I have bounced around between Romantic and Dramatic...didn’t feel right. The Dramatic Classic makes so much sense. However, I have super curly hair...nothing simple or clean line about it. I mostly wear it pulled back and maybe that is the answer to my hair fitting my face and body. I get lots of compliments when worn down and curly,; none when smooth. It seems odd that my natural hair may not work with the rest of me. Maybe the curly hair worn down balances the yang somewhat? Perhaps a video on curly hair for the types? There are lots of us out there of many ethnicities with curly hair of all body types. Any thoughts on curly hair with Dramatic Classic. welcomed! E

    I think a lot of people could confuse some Classics with Gamine...

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  Před 5 lety +45

      Classics are confused with almost every other type I find. Because classics are in the middle, any tiny bit of 'sharpness' or 'softness' can be answered differently from C on the Kibbe quiz. For example, an answer C nose with a teeeeeeny tiny bit of sharpness (not nearly enough to be answer A, actually answer C), could be answered answer A......etc, so they can easily be confused with gamines. It's important to remember the *entire* continuum of how sharp vs soft lines can be.

      @@mayyb I actually started typing as soft natural after I wrote this comment! We have a similar issue so maybe looking into that category might help?

      they are supposed to be medium ... not narrow or petite. perhaps these examples vary but classic is by definition medium sized

    Thank you for this video. I'm just learning about my type. Thank you for saying that we can bring in an element from other body types in clothing since we are balanced. I'm thinking the same for hair? I had long hair but just cut it to jawline bob with bangs. I do look most elegant and my best showing my whole face. These videos will help me to not try too many hairstyles but stick to what works best.

    Hey! I just took the kibbe test, while I'm aware of it being somewhat outdated, my results are as follows:
    BONE STRUCTURE: (2C 1B 1A)
    BODY FLESH: (2D, 3C)
    FACIAL FEATURES: (3B, 1A, 3C)
    OVERALL:
    A 2
    B 4
    C 8
    D 2
    I am really really confused about what to type myself as...

    it's nuts! I took a test to determine my type, was totally doubting it thinking maybe I answered questions innacurately but every time I'm shown examples of my body type I'm like ÿes!! that's me!!!"so cool (dramatic classic)

  • @Galaxstase
    @Galaxstase Před 5 lety +3

    I'm 5'3 and I am proportional. In weight 103 lbs I look like dramatic classic, in weight 110 lbs i look like a classic and in weight 125 lbs I look like a soft classic. Can't really determine my type also can't determine by facial features.. though classic style looks great on me.

    • @merriamstyle
      @merriamstyle  Před 5 lety +2

      That's common Lara! The key is to look at if your figure is shapely *for your weight*. If you look like a soft classic at 125, I would suspect that you look like a soft classic at 103 as well. But also you could watch my video on weight and kibbe type (I show some examples of rihanna at the end who is theatrical romantic at a lower weight and compare at a higher weight, so you can see how the yin changes, but her body iand figure are still yin no matter her weight). Or you can just find some images of rihanna yourself and maybe see what I mean!

  • @ClaraCB5
    @ClaraCB5 Před 4 lety +2

    I think I'm a soft classic, but I'm still not sure haha! My body is definitely balanced, my face leans more towards the romantic side (round eyes, full lips and huge nose hahaha), my body is pretty balanced but leans on the soft side, however my waist is not as pronounced as any of the ladies in this videos, and that's my biggest problem in defining my body type (kibbe or 'regular'!). One day I'll know for sure x)

    I think I'm definitely a soft classic. (I scored mostly D's on the test, but I came up with soft classic as the closest answer) I have to be very careful with accessories and styles of clothing or I look overpowered.

    I think my body is more so classic dramatic and my face is classic romantic. It was very confusing to determine my body type a couple of years ago! I wanna know now how to dress and how I should wear my face, since I can combine some romantic things with the classic dramatic style.

    I don't know if I got this answer due to biases, but I tried the test and tried to be very careful with it as well. I was initially leaning towards FN, but I took the test again, this time observing my body as thoroughly as I can, and I got DC. I don't think I have the width of FNs for the most part. (My facial features are kinda like the soft classic lady, but my vertical length is long and body has sharpness.
