  • This was a live Zoom watercolour demo for Wokingham Art Society. The resolution isn't great as it was edited from the Zoom recording but I hope you enjoy it.

    I've just rediscovered your YT videos, I first saw one of your videos a few years ago and then seemed to have lost touch. I'd only just started painting (aged 70!!!!) and felt that watercolour was too difficult to paint in a reasonably painterly manner. I tried other mediums and managed to achieve some "not bad" results, but always felt I really wanted to paint watercolour.
    Over the years I've watched various tutors and demos on watercolour but never quite got it. When I just found your latest video I realised you are one of the best w/colour teachers on YT. You say what you are doing all the time, you show your palette, your have that great Northern Irish lilt and of course you paint some fantastic scenes in a loose and impressionistic style!
    One thing, I'm surprised you don't link to your online courses from your YT channel, I had to search to find them! Anyway I'm going to start with the free ones and then move through your paid courses, I'm looking forward to it! John

    As an American (even a mid-westerner) it is an added delight to get to listen to your wonderful Irish lilt, I think they call it. The blending you Irish do sort of parallels the blending of some colors. For example, I've noticed after watching several of your videos that the Irish have a dread of a hard "a". You blend a little (sometimes a lot) of the letter "e" into it to soften it. "No way," we would say. "No weh," you would say. Its "colorful" to the ear. Now then, back to the paint.

    Thanks Grahame, this one really hit the spot for me. It's where i want to be; walking down that beach with my art bag over my shoulder. Ahhhh.

    Dear Grahame, the pure simplicity and nuance of this one makes it so successful and therefore, one of my favorites. I can't wait to give this one a go this snowy afternoon and think of warmer days by the sea. As always, thanks ever so much for sharing your masterful talent. 👩‍🦳🖌️

    Just found your channel Grahame. I’m just down the road from this place, so maybe that’s how it came up for me.
    Boy am I glad it did!! Thank you for explaining why you are actually doing certain things.
    I do admit as much as I love doing/learning watercolour I am a bit lost even after a year and a half. I’m going to settle myself at the weekend and hopefully follow this tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to share these pointers with us all!

      Trust me, I still feel lost at times after 35+ years! The best advice I can give is don't be afraid of the water. Allow the paint to flow, don't scrub it on.

      Thank you Amir. The confidence is that I don't worry if things go wrong (as they will) rather than expecting them to go right!

    Hello Grahame, thank you for your lovely tutorials. I wonder if you would recommend a size for a squirrel mop to start out? I have to buy online as we don’t have an art store anywhere near us. I’m lost on a size range for backwashes. Cheers!

    • @PaintingWatercolour
      @PaintingWatercolour  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you Briana. Squirrel mops are sized differently to normal rounds. I would suggest a size 8 or 10 www.rosemaryandco.com/pure-squirrel-mop

    Thanks for sharing Grahame. Nice work. I have one question though, di you intentionally placed the top of the warf with the foot of the mountain? Could you have done a different compo?

    • @PaintingWatercolour
      @PaintingWatercolour  Před 2 lety +2

      Ah Noel, it was definitely not intended in fact I am usually very quick at spotting such problems. My only excuse is that it was live!! Normally I would have made the jetty a little higher so that it would overlap the mountain.
