I do not own this song, only the lyric video.
Lyrics:
Before the war, he wanted more
And ran away from home
The War to End All Wars had called his name
Outcast, an unlikely soldier
Barely worth his uniform
Emerging as a devil dressed in blue
Being the lone survivor
At the trenches in Alsace
One man holds the line
From the south to the front to the battlefield
From a farm to a hero of France
Served his country courageous and fearless
As he halts the Kaiser’s advance
From the south to the front into no man’s land
From a farm to the end of the road
Son of France he is the first on the frontline
Coming home
Coming home, let his story be known
Glorious, victorious
Protector of the tomb
Memories of his deeds, the cross of war
He’s a decorated soldier, he’s the pride of the uniform
Echoes from the past his story told
Lined up for execution
Saved his captain’s life
One man holds the line - Hudba
Roche died in 1939.
Germany only invaded France in 1940, because they knew Roche would have stopped them
If Roche was alive for WW2 Germany would replace France in those stupid "France always surrenders" memes.
He would've served in WW2 if he didn't get on a bus. I heard he died in a bus crash
@@everythinghistory6770 A car hit him as he left a bus, just months before WWII broke out
@@Mr.Sparks.173 Wow. Maybe the driver who hit him was German. Haha
LOL! Nice thought but no.
After looking at the offical song description and hearing that he was relatively short in height and subjected to sceptisim from his peers, you could call him the French (WWI) version of Audie Murphy.
yes
@@maddhattergaming6863 yes
That is… absolutely right but, sadly he didn’t act in his own movie 😭
@@aufmerksamkeitpanzers1525 sadly
Given the chronology, and if you look at it from a different point-of-view, one could call Audie Murphy the American (WWII) version of Albert Roche.
It's like a song about someone who earns even Superman's admiration.
I can actually see that happening.
The humblest soldiers make the greatest heroes, it seems.
This song is sort of the opposite side of the coin to Father in my opinion. Father was very dark sounding and this one is super upbeat.
It matches the tone of each subject matter.
Father is dark and foreboding as is the invention and use of chemical warfare. You can feel the fear and worry such an invention and its use would cause in the song.
The first soldier is a triumphant tune about a hero doing heroic things. You can feel the awe and hope such a hero would bring, it's the sound of a victory and celebration.
yes and it was his dream to become a soldier since his dream came true in Europe's worst nightmare and that was from Yarnhub by the way.
This song is wonderful to listen to. Its definately something that you'd hear in a scrappy but determined underdog movie.
he answered the call of his nation
Just as good if not better then blood of Bannockburn which happens to be my all time favorite song by Sabaton
Heres a quiz for sabaton fans...
Name all six of the hero's on the thumbnail...
Blue one is Roche ofc.
On the top right is Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart, the unkillable soldier and I think that the bottom right may be Pegahmagabow (the Ghost in the trenches).
Bottom middle is probably Milunka Savic (Lady of the Dark).
Bottom left Alvin C. York (92nd all the way)?
But I have no idea about that guy on the camel, at best it's Thomas Edward Lawrence (Seven Pillars of Wisdom).
Or we are getting a few songs soon
@@krito5832 Yes, I believe the dude on the camel is Lawrence of Arabia as well.
I'll take your word for Alvin C York on the bottom left.
Alvin York
Albert Severin Roche
Milunka Savic
T.E. Lawrence
Adrian Carton De Wiart
Francis Pegahmagabow
Roche, Sir Adrian Carton, pegahmagabow, mulinik Slavic, Alvin York and the Lawrence of Arabia
Sgt Alvin York (see his little moustache, its just like the one in the lyric video for 82nd all the way), Albert Severin Roche, Francis Pegahmagabow (Ghost in the Trenches), Miliunka Sovic (Lady of the Dark), Sir Adrian Carton de Wiart (Unkillable Soldier), and TE Lawrence
I love sabaton
Why does sound like a metal version of Safety Dance?
God damn it man, now I hear it too
I need a metal version of Safety Dance now thanks ❤
ONE MAN HOLDS THE LINE!
FROM THE SOUTH TO THE FRONT TO THE BATTLEFIELD
FROM A FARM TO A HERO OF FRANCE
New favorite sabaton song
Fucking banger
What a masterpiece!
why do i hear "we can dance if we want to!" in the intro D:
You can fight if you want to... leave the village behind...
Son of France
Hes the first to frontline
Simeon’s been listening to the safety dance by men without hats
Looks like inthe highland
eventhough im not French, im feeling very patriotic for France lol
Yeah, Sabaton can have that effect.
France is a great nation deserving of respect. It is is many regards the oldest nation in Europe, a bastion of culture and Enlightenment values, a military superpower for centuries, and jointly with the United Kingdom, one of the two great European powers.

This did not age well...
Why not?
