  • Hey all, a lot of you have been asking about what happened to a lot of the bikes in the past I've owned. I've owned a KLR650, KLX650C, DRZ400S, Africa Twin, WR250R, YZ250F, KTM 250SX-F, DR650, Tenere 700 (seeker Pol Tarres), and now my CRF450RL. Consider this video an explanation as to where those previous bikes went.
    I also discuss which ones I regret selling and if there are any bikes I'm considering in the future. Let me know what you all think.

    Good video 👍🏼 I went from a 2005 KLR 650 to a 2019 ATAS to a 2021 CRF300L Rally to a 2017 AT to a 2022 CRF300L (standard, non-Rally) to my 2022 Tenere 700. My T7 is my favorite and I plan on keeping it a long time. The one I regret selling the most is the standard 300L. You are right about the AT; it is much better in the dirt than a bike that big should be. I saw that you bought a 450RL but I thought it was in addition to your T7, not instead of.

    That’s why own a DRZ. I literally also want all the bikes you have tried out but I know it’s all about trade offs and the DRZ with two wheel sets is the ultimate Swiss army knife

    Great video….i have had very similar bikes but from drz400, ktm 500exc, 2nd Drz400, Tenere 700, and now Crf450l both supemoto & dirt setup all kitted out but now I really want a wr250r or Crf300l just to do more off road with longer service intervals/ some mini adventures. Drz are great for cheap but outdated, tenere was to big for my skills off road, ktm & Crf450l great race bikes but service intervals suck, hoping the legendary wr250r or a new Crf300l is perfect blend with some suspension work. Great videos “ subscribed

    I knew you were going to mention the DRZ again at the end … I have a DRZ-E with all the mods; it’s great. I was worried it would suck riding on the highway between trails, but it’s really not that bad, unless you’re soft (and I just have a standard seat; which could definitely be improved upon!). I think top road speed I’ve done on it on the flat was just over 138 kmph (about 86 mph).

      Yeah I loved my old DRZ, it was such a great bike. Just wish it was fuel injected!!!
      I will say this CRF450RL gives me the fun factor that my DRZ did, but the power the 450RL has is just way too much for my skill set offroad lol.

    Sounds like you need a plated 300 2 stroke. Then if you don't want to mess with jetting get a smart carb or a fuel injected model like the KTM XC-W. Problem solved, lol. Been there as well with many bikes over the years. I always find myself riding mostly offroad. I really like the harder stuff. My current favorite is a 2023 Beta Xtrainer with lots of mods to make it more comfortable for me. It's literally like cheating when offroading. I rode 2 strokes in the 90's but had no idea how good the new bikes are in the woods. They are so much better than anything else it's crazy and they are dead simple to work on. The power is perfect. The weight is crazy light. You should attend a Beta Demo day. They are all starting up since it's early in the year.

      @@OgreMoto Gotcha, bummer. Does your tuner on your RL offer different maps? I bet you can get a switch that will allow you to switch to a softer power curve map. My brother has one of those on his getECU for his ktm 500.

    • @OgreMoto
      @OgreMoto  Před 3 měsíci

      @@WadeMade I am on the softer power map lol. But the bike is also new to me with like 2 offroad rides under my belt. I’m really not used to it at all yet. I may just get used to it with time.
      I am still just thinking about getting a 300 2 smoke anyways though. Having ridden a 2015 Xcw I agree completely with you.

    I've owned 2 separate 450Ls. Both with ecu and exhaust. They just dont ride like a classic dual sport. More of a motocrosser feel. I sold the first one and then later regretted it and bought another. It was like getting back with an ex, seems great in your brain but instantly youre like "not this again!" I now have a KLX 300 with all the mods and its perfect mix for road and woods, power and feel. All while having the more relaxed maintenance schedule and capable suspension that still is plush. Like you, I've owned many many dual sports all over the map. Surprising even to me the KLX ended up being the one.

    Have you ridden a Klx 300 dual sport ? If so how does it compare to the Drz400 ? I am sure the Drz has more power. How about the handling?

    • @OgreMoto
      @OgreMoto  Před 3 měsíci

      I’ve ridden a KLX250 cuz my buddy had one for years. They’re identical chassis wise to the 300 but I can’t comment on the power, although I know ur DRZ still has more.
      It’s a good bike for what it is, but it’s lesser quality than the DRZ and the suspension is also worse than the DRZ despite being USD forks. As far as handling, it’s definitely more nimble and narrow than the DRZ so it’s definitely got that going for it. It’s a decent bike and if you can find a good deal on one snag it for sure.

      @@2vford241 brooooo wtf. I use progressive too and they told me they wouldn’t insure it for road use. Something about not having a certificate of origin, it being branded on the VIN from factory as an ORV, and some BS about the addresses not correlating. This was a while ago when my buddy and I were trying to make an old XR600R we were restoring street legal.
      I know dirtlegal sets up an LLC for you so it’s supposed to be cut and dry but idk why I had so many issues. Maybe it’s dependant on the bike? The dealer who sold it originally? Who knows?

    So the main bad point of the 450rl is too much power for the trails ?

    • @OgreMoto
      @OgreMoto  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Well obviously maintenance intervals too. I haven’t really formed an opinion about it yet though. Haven’t had it for long enough, nor am I that used to it yet. I’m sure after riding it for a year or so I’ll feel very at home on it.

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade Před 3 měsíci

      I would imagine if you ride the road to the dirt and mostly dirt you probably won't find a much more capable bike than the 450RL. Probably the only bike that could surpass it's capability would be a KTM 500 EXC. But I still recommend a 300 2 stroke for any offroading. I take mine to my brothers and as long as we cruise around 45-50 on the roads to the trails it's fine. When we have an outing it's about 20 miles road and 30 offroad. It's perfect for that. Fill your oil injection, check your filter, change the oil every 15 hours, which is way easier than it sounds and your all good.

    My first dualsport was/is my XT250. I love it. Spent a long time contemplating what to get. I'm 5'9" and 235 so it works perfect for me. I wanted air cooled and EFI with low seat height. Not surprised at your favorite bikes. I like Yamaha and Suzuki in general. Just not feeling Honda and Kawasaki these days. DRZ400 is the king even if it's not for me. KTM seems fun but I'd never buy one. DR650 is a bike I've thought about buying, more power, can sit as low as my XT easily, but carb. It's great but not a "lifer" like my XT250. Can't imagine getting rid of it.
