For the record, Duke is ranked as the 10th best University in America according to U.S. News and World Reports annual rankings for 2022-2023. UCLA is 20th. So he got rejected from a lower ranked school than the one he is attending.

I think it depends on region. I got rejected from every common app school and accepted into every UC for undergrad probably partly because I was from a California public school. A lot of Ivy people went to private or magnet schools in East coast
