Which trailer were you watching? His trailer had the weakest reaction. Even if it wasn't for that, I knew this character was going to go nowhere, both narrative-wise and fan reaction-wise. He was written by NRS after all. It's just unfortunate that, by their logic, if you're ugly and non-human you're going to be cast as a jobber for the "bad guys". And that goes double for if you're male. At least D'Vorah and Sheeva got some story wins to their names. At least he's fun to play with.

The collected is a decently cool character but netherrealm just added him to increase the new character roster. But he was always destined to be a goon. I mean even if this wasn't netherrealm making the game, he would still be a goon because his race is just Shao khan's slaves. I just can't see him becoming a big character. Cool, unique, refreshing character but will not become anything
I think the biggest problem with the story mode in NRS games is that characters (typically villains) who don't have their own chapter will forever be washer fodder. It's a real shame, because Erron Black and the Kollector are really cool characters, but the story mode doesn't do them any favors and makes them look more and more useless.
Ferra/Torr at least had that once scene that depicted them steam roll through the Kombat kids to reach Kung Jin and also seemingly having defeated Takeda when they helped invade Earthrealm near MKXs finale. Sure they weren’t actual fights, but it is literally more than can be said for the Kollector who beat nameless footsoldiers. Suffice to say Ferra/Torr>Kollector
I absolutely love his design and fighting style, only character trailer that actually made me interested in playing a character pre dlc. But Netherrealm can't help but make characters be useless in the story because of how they structured the game.
Riddle me this, was there anything at all that Kollector could do as far as his role in the story went, that Reiko could not? Kotal capturing Reiko would have been a great way to reintroduce the latter into the story.

Better than Ferra/Torr? They defeated Takeda off-screen. And if not for Kung Jin, they would have killed half the Kombat Kids. I get their personality is like sandpaper, but they had a good showing (well, compared to most jobbers)

His name being the Kollector and his fatalities showing him kill and take apart his victims implies a lot of what he was suppose to be. I would have liked it if he was less a talker and actually killed a main character. Seriously everyone dies in this game. But the heroes die soft deaths. Kollector could have been more creepy too if they bothered to write him better.

I never understood why you couldn’t kill Ferra off and it was just Torr. Other less violent games will allow fatal blows on young characters. SS5 allows you to kill Rimururu (who looks and acts like a child) Nakoruru and Shizumaru...just saying it’s odd they went out of their way to censor violence to one character
You hit the nail on the head. The Kollector is the Ferra & Torr of MK11, put him up against some no name fodder and he wins, but the moment he faces a playable character he gets washed like a pair of hands in 2020.
I thought about this recently. Kollector would have worked just fine as an NPC/side character. He did not need to be on the main roster. Shao Kahn's tax collector has no real relevance to the plot.
it's cause of characters like this that we need a villain story mode. the best way is a rise of shao kahn story. final boss onaga and you can introduce and make them shine in storychapters. flesh them out, they are introduced and need to get character as a villain character in 1 game. that's as good as impossible just look at ferra/torr

Ferra/Torr is still better than Kollector as all he did was take the place of Reptile and failed to live up to his character. He was just a poor fusion of Goro and Reptile from the flesh pits, at least Ferra/Torr brought in a new race instead of painfully retconning it in, plus they didn't actually come off like a poor copy of other characters. I still put Ferra/Torr above the all bark and no bite Kollector who was an obvious fill in for Reptile.

Well... 1- He came out on a game that has the potential of all classic characters can return, and so he ends Up taking the spot of classic favorites... 2- Personality wise, He is much more honest than the rest and points out people for hypocritical they actually are... 3- He did rose thru the ranks in a society of brutality and put a race of workers on the map, and remained loyal... 4- Official storywise: Sadly, in the NRS trilogy (kano did not won a single fight), the Only time villains were an actual threat to the good guys was the Shao and Sindel chapters, so he Will be a jobbers... Based on what I said... CETRION (elder Jobber) is total trash and the biggest trash among the 3 newcomers. The best was Geras in the end

I was never a fan of Kollector, he was just "there". His moves and his voice was cool, reminded me of Imhotep from the Mummy series (late 90s/Early 2000s series by the way), but other than that, Kollector was nothing but a jobber. He would be the guy wrestling dark matches before WWF Sunday Night Heat..... or worse.... WWF Jakked/Metal. Remember Jakked/Metal?
I think my biggest problem with MKX-11 is they really put the power roles on these new characters. Just because it’s a new timeline we’re supposed to support the Special Forces next generation instead of the franchise heroes? Believe in Kronika, D’Vorah, Kollector as the big baddies? And they are more powerful than Shao Khan and the others after him.. yeah right

When aftermath came out, I really thought he would at least be the one who initially had kronikas crown, since his schtick was... Collecting stuff. Or maybe he manages to steal it when it's charged to throw a wrench into the works or something.
Can't have a roster without jobbers, Kollector was designed to be a lackey from the start, I have no problem with his treatment in MK11. Whereas Kotal Khan was actually pushed like he was a big deal, only to have his character destroyed smh.
Its embarassing when a character like Kollector makes it into the base game but Ermac doesn't at least Ermac has at least 2 wins to his name (Jax and Johnny), Kollector is Hsu Hao 2.0 and Kotal is Hsu Hao 3.0, he gets a 1/10 for gameplay only I gave Jarek a 7/10 he just needs to be less goofy and redesigned to make him a solid 9/10, Kollector is a one and done character in my opinion at least Jarek is memorable (He was in sections of the MKX comic so he still has a chance to return)
Anyone feel like the stakes have risen too high? Like, universe destroying time controlling gods? I feel like power levels shouldn’t surpass a character like khan or rarely a character like shinnok. It would make the stories far more interesting
3/10 Kollector is, in fact, better than Ferra Torr. But that’s not saying anything, I like Hsu Hao or Mavado more than Ferra Torr and Kollector. At least they had some sort of mystery or overlying conflict that may or may not tie into the main storyline or another character’s storyline somehow. You know, something that made you like the character and made you wanna find out what happens to them, care for them, etc. But Kollector literally has no purpose, he’s just one of Shao Kahn’s mooks, and was only put in the game to fill the roster. Adding on to this, it’s really hard to like a character when they only show up to get their ass kicked, and then don’t even get to see them do anything else ever except show up and get spanked. I like his personality though, he’s ok.
Fun fact: he’s the only base roster character to not have gotten a dlc skin

One of the most boring characters of Mortal Kombat but he had potential.
I was never a fan of Kollector, he was just "there". His moves and his voice was cool, reminded me of Imhotep from the Mummy series (late 90s/Early 2000s series by the way), but other than that, Kollector was nothing but a jobber. He would be the guy wrestling dark matches before WWF Sunday Night Heat..... or worse.... WWF Jakked/Metal.

I think my biggest problem with MKX-11 is they really put the power roles on these new characters. Just because it’s a new timeline we’re supposed to support the Special Forces next generation instead of the franchise heroes? Believe in Kronika, D’Vorah, Kollector as the big baddies? And they are more powerful than Shao Khan and the others after him.. yeah right

When aftermath came out, I really thought he would at least be the one who initially had kronikas crown, since his schtick was... Collecting stuff. Or maybe he manages to steal it when it's charged to throw a wrench into the works or something.

Can't have a roster without jobbers, Kollector was designed to be a lackey from the start, I have no problem with his treatment in MK11. Whereas Kotal Khan was actually pushed like he was a big deal, only to have his character destroyed smh.
The Flop and Fall of Discount Mumm-Ra
Its embarassing when a character like Kollector makes it into the base game but Ermac doesn't at least Ermac has at least 2 wins to his name (Jax and Johnny), Kollector is Hsu Hao 2.0 and Kotal is Hsu Hao 3.0, he gets a 1/10 for gameplay only I gave Jarek a 7/10 he just needs to be less goofy and redesigned to make him a solid 9/10, Kollector is a one and done character in my opinion at least Jarek is memorable (He was in sections of the MKX comic so he still has a chance to return)

Anyone feel like the stakes have risen too high? Like, universe destroying time controlling gods? I feel like power levels shouldn’t surpass a character like khan or rarely a character like shinnok. It would make the stories far more interesting

Kollector is, in fact, better than Ferra Torr.
But that’s not saying anything, I like Hsu Hao or Mavado more than Ferra Torr and Kollector.
At least they had some sort of mystery or overlying conflict that may or may not tie into the main storyline or another character’s storyline somehow.
You know, something that made you like the character and made you wanna find out what happens to them, care for them, etc.
But Kollector literally has no purpose, he’s just one of Shao Kahn’s mooks, and was only put
in the game to fill the roster.
Adding on to this, it’s really hard to like a character when they only show up to get their ass kicked, and then don’t even get to see them do anything else ever except show up and get spanked.
I like his personality though, he’s ok.
