WINTER VAN LIFE in the MOUNTAINS - It gets RIDICULOUS! (Don't miss this!)
Our winter van life journey in the mountains of Europe continues as we go higher than we've ever been before! We are currently exploring Switzerland, the most expensive country in the world, and finding van life here a little tough! But, once we accept that things cost, we get our head around their cable car and mountain train system, we learn how to enjoy the Swiss way! And that means camping in the snow and sledding down the mountain for three kilometres at over 1600 feet!! Living in a van in sub zero temperatures can be awesome, even if wild camping is illegal here.. this week winter van life really does get epic!
We are exploring the Jungfrau region near Grindelwald. We take a trip to Lauterbrunnen, check out camping Jungfrau and head up to Murren. All of this is an experience you're not going to want to miss. Plus, now we've done it the wrong way, we give some tips about taking a motorhome or campervan up into the most famous area in the Swiss mountains.

Hopefully you are enjoying this European travel series as much as we are and we are managing to show you just some of the stunning landscapes that Switzerland has to offer in this Swiss travel vlog.
As usual, we have tried to include a bit of everything, some cinematic scenery mixed with our usual female van life foolery, we always love hearing what you lot think in the comments so do let us know, and as always, thank you for watching!
Follow us on our journey as we attempt to create a proper youtube travel series as we, two female travelers and vanlifers, attempt to travel across Europe in our rolling tiny home.

I love your videos and you ladies and your sweet furry friends so much !!! So lovely to see what you all get up to , the back drop is amazing !!! Lots of love from America !!!
Is there a discount on the air up as they look lush
There’s nothing sweeter than being able to afford the luxury of traveling to different locations as enchanting and beautiful as Switzerland 🇨🇭
I like the sound of this guy, I am also a travel enthusiast but sadly I don’t have the financial power to live my dreams of an adventurous life, if it’s possible I would also like to do business with this guy, what is the best way I can use to reach out to him?
Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate the information.
I'm an Air Force disabled Vet. Supported fighters like this! Awesome! Mahalo for sharing!🤙🌈💖PS ...the Navy raised me. My Dad was a Naval Officer for 32 years!
Absolutely amazing 🤩
I too am USAF disabled vet, F-16 Crew Chief, stationed in Germany for six years, TDYs to all the NATO countries, with a USS California Pearl Harbor survivor grandpa and CPO mom. I love watching these two and their critters.
My gosh ladies this is so stunning!! What views! Oh, AJ seeing where Louise is driving the family to. Thank goodness you found that overhearing plug!! Scary. Be safe, always and thanks so much for taking us. 🚐 💕😻💙💜🐾
Another cracking video 😍 😂 Having catapulted to the top of my favourite CZcams channel list some time back, I now find myself getting ever more impatient for the next instalment (is it Sunday yet?!) Keep ‘em coming girls, they just keep getting better and better.
😂😀🥳
I love the way AJ stands and looks out the front window. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
He is a cutie
So lovely I'm so enjoying your travels, the views and the fun you have together. Thanks for inviting us along! 😎😎
Thanks for coming 😀
Another enjoyable half hour on a Sunday evening. Thanks, girls. The smiles on your faces say it all! Lovely
As a very experienced skier (started almost 50 years ago, daughter is ski instructor), you do NOT need fresh powder snow as a beginner.
What you need is nice freshly groomed flat snow, and that's exactly what you'll get at any half decent ski resort (which is most of them in Switzerland ime).
What you don't want is ice, but again that will not be present in the beginner area.
Every night the grooming machines come out and break up the surface of the snow so any compacted areas are eliminated. The machine then smooths the broken up surface into corduroy (nice stripes about a quarter of an inch wide) that is the easiest surface to ski on.
So, GO FOR IT ! :)
Thanks you that’s great info for us 😀
Hope Fanny gets her electrical sorted out as you said safety first. Very impressive sledging though. Summer has the right idea by staying in a nice cosy van. I only charge my stuff up during daytime never overnight for safety reasons. So stay safe everyone and I hope Emily you get your chocolate stash. 🍫😊
Oh she most definitely does 😂🐈⬛
The cat at the end licking her paw in the background while you think you have an emergency was hilarious. (BTW I think the cat is right and that, this isn't an emergency. Just unplug the socket and go to Bern.)
AJ is always so cute sitting up front with you two!
Ladies you have exceeded the quality of last week. Fabulous coverage once again, loving it!XX
Thanks Paul
l love you 2 you always make me laugh 😂Emily's face when she was speeding down the mountain on the sledge 🤪😁😆 looked so much fun, Switzerland looks stunning, thank you for a great video as always ☺
It really was loads of fun 😀😀
Absolutely brilliant! Loved watching you two sledding, so funny. Best thing about Sunday’s are your video’s, think you xx
😀😀😀
Girls you need to go back in spring and get walking up the mountains. It’s insanely beautiful.
Thank you girls, just spent a hard 2 hours working on motorbike and back is killing me, and to sit down with a cuppa and your video was there, made me relax and smile again, you two always make me smile, I am the same with air force planes, live right by Mildenhall and Lakenheath in suffolk so i understand the fascination, and i am ex RAF. Amazing views up the mountains, and sledging down that mountain did look fun. I went to austria and switzerland in 1972, but the memories of how lovely it was never go away. stay safe girls and keep smiling.
Hope the back ain’t too bad, but chill relax you deserve it 😀
Emily in her element!!! Love it
Summer prefers Summer! Those croissants looked yummy, what beautiful scenery too. The Epic adventure continues, hopefully with some extra snacks. Great sledging skills noted, well done!
I have always wanted to visit Switzerland so thank you for taking all of us watching with you, and will look forward to your return, brilliant as always
It’s a beautiful place
How beautiful is Switzerland, What a wonderful life you are both having. You only live once so enjoy every moment x
I have been to that Swiss airbase. 25 years ago I was the program manager for the propellers used on the one plane you showed taxiing near the end. It had not been in service long and I was invited to come over and see it’s operational use (it’s used as a primary trainer). I was lucky enough to be taken up for a brief demo of its capabilities. Time of my life! Another fun video. Thanks for the trip back down memory lane!
I am so jealous
Fantastic episode. Great scenery which I will never see as petrified of heights so thank you for the views xx
We are SO happy that you changed your mind and visited Switzerland after all. Yes, it is expensive here, and wild camping is difficult (though not impossible) but experiences, including nature, are absolutely worth it. Keep having fun.
It is definitely worth a visit for sure and we will most definitely be back 😀
@@campervibe Switzerland definietly must be looks bette during the spring :))
Thanks you guys for taking the time to sharing your adventures with us, looks like you were having so much fun.The scenery was amazing.Always brighten my Sundays up.Richard Isle of Man x
The views have been really lovely 😊
I grew up Air Force and married Air Force...so I basically have been around military aircraft for almost 60 years. I never get tired of it..especially loved meeting female fighter pilots! Oh by the way, my youngest is Navy! 😊
Oh wow yeah I’d love to meet female pilots that would be awesome and go Navy 😀
@@campervibe yep, I actually met her on my son's aircraft carrier. Do you all have family cruises? We cruised back from Hawaii to San Diego on the carrier...it's called the Tiger Cruise. We got to see her in action! 😁 Go Navy! ⚓️
Hi guys, if you're still arround, you can stay couple days at my place in the mountain. we also lived in our camping car for now, but we can provide water, electricity, whasher machine and dryer and friends for AJ. (we are in 1871 Les Giettes)
and if you come again in summer, we have nice walks and we can show you arround for less monney that you spent 🙂
Aw thank you, unfortunately it we have had to come back to the UK but we will definitely be back at some point
Thanks for your nice videos. My sister and I stayed in Lauterbrunnen in 2019 it was such a beautiful area
That issue with the USB cable is actually the cable connector (an internal short at the cable connector or conductive debris inside the connector/port) and not the wall USB port. In my line of work, I see this quite often and there is not much the USB outlet side can do. The only thing a customer can do is to use high quality cables (cables from reputable companies, not necessarily $$$), make sure the cables (and device port) are free from debris and not damaged (aka, not a chew toy, as some cats likes to chew on ends of USB cables for some reason) and take care of charging cables as one would take care of their $1k devices. A low quality $5 / abused cable can quickly ruin a $1k device. One would think having a fuse on the wall USB port would do the trick, but this melt will happen with 5W or 20W, the only difference is how much heat and melting is generated on the USB connector. Glad, luckily, it didn’t damage your goPro.
We got stuck in the snow in Switzerland 🇨🇭 in one off are videos hope you guys have fun safe travels
Make sure you are using good cables and check them regularly. Original cables don't automatically mean they're good.
We nearly had a fire at home because of the faulty cable which started melting as it was red-hot.
Replaced the cable and the sofa pillow it had damaged and all is good now.
Stay safe!
We actually think it was the housing pod for the go prob after some further examinations
I loved Summer's reaction to the snow. "Are you mental? I'm not going out in that!".
😂😂🐈⬛🐈⬛
For two adults, you are so much fun, when away in strange countries. Are you the same at home? Nice to see Emiley getting her bum in the snow. Back to Nature in a very basic way of course. Another fabulous video of your trips out and about. Keep it up girls!! Good to see you tackling the heights of the the Alps. I was worried just going up the Heights Of Abraham in Derbyshire., lol
Yeah we try to have as much fun as possible, we think it will keep us young 😂
Ladies, our TV highlight of the week….. seconds in and Lou is already blowing my mind with her creative genius, the karcher cleaning the vlog title 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 followed by jet engines. You guys are just ace xx
Amy Paul & Ted 🐾
Thanks guys
I may need a lawyer! I have been house bound for twelve years. It has been twelve [ nearly unbroken ] years of self-hate; bitterness; jealousy; frustration; a strong sense of suffocating. Plus a degree of loss and grieving over an abrupt end to decades of backpacking around this planet. Today all of this ends - touch wood. Despite what feels like rotting bones and ' fracturing hands' I am leaving home today. I will use my electric wheelchair out of doors for the very first time . And it IS all because of you two. Your influence over me has been building for ages. And, now, and thanks to the last few videos, I want my life back. I want to backpack again. So today is my first, er, step . ( Hand on my heart ) I will for ever be grateful to you both for the courage, and a little spark in my belly, which is about to kick me out of my front door. Now, then. Time to sing a Vera Lynn medley and......away I go.
I hope that it went well 🤞🤞 it’s amazing that you are going for it
The toboggan bit was greaaat😂😂😂❤❤❤ some wicked adventures! Love it enjoy friends❤❤❤
The sledding was hilarious 😂❤
That is the sound of FREEDOM!!
Darth: Isn't it supposed to be "Daft Ada" ❓🤣🤣
Superb! I understand Emily's love for seeing the jets taking off really close. Your eardrums might hate you afterwards, but the feeling you get when they run past you is awesome. And both of you should be really really happy you didn't encounter them head on on the road - you would see the air moving in strange ways, and the slim silhouette of something that is closing in and, hmm I wonder if that is getting bigger and closer, and really quick?.... Been there, done that, and got the palpitations to prove it, and a close encounter with trees on the side of the road.
It’s crazy and so loved seeing them
Not only was AJ happy when you both returned from sleigh riding, so was Summer. So cute 🥰.
Great video, enjoyed it very much. Hope the electrical stuff is sorted🤞.
Summer just wanted feeding 😂😂
Another SUPER video, that Sledging looked great fun and the views Stunning, keep safe and look forward to the next one . Cheers Janie
So jealous. Been to that area several times last 2018 and one of my favourite parts of the world. Also whilst I’ve not been since it’s came under new management this is one of my favourite campsites (summer). Not too small but not too bit and such amazing views. The restaurant always had amazing food, the shower block away from main reception was so warm with its music playing. Would see the paragliders coming down, as you say short walk to centre or walk along other way to river. Amazing circular walks in summer cable car up from Lauterbrunnen up walk along to Murren down and walk along. Trummelbache falls were lovely. The train is great too but amazing walk in the summer. The funicular train is steep but amazing views and walks there. I’ve done Jungfrau train, did the early train so was a bit cheaper. It was amazing up there, Lindt shop, the views walk out in snow even in late summer, tobogganing 3500m up looking across the Alps and glacier 😉. I was lucky with weather as clear and just closed in as caught train back down so was very grateful. I’ve never been in winter but looks amazing. Have to say an area pass was my best investment just to get on the trains and cable cars around interlaken, lauterbrunnen, Wengen & grindlewald and mine included some ferries on the lakes too. When you return i can highly recommend the shoulder season either mid June or mid September and take layers as Can be hot and cold, in June can still see some snow at sides but most paths are open. Can recommend walking along from First & really wanted to do some of the flight rides down but when I went it got too windy as a storm was rolling in so they understandably stopped it for safety which was gutting. Could take AJ on some amazing walks away as most transport allow dogs. Btw you can actually walk up behind the waterfall closest to campsite for free via a path between campsite and main village. Also still expensive but if ever go again there’s a Lidl in Interlaken can work out just a little cheaper. It is expensive but as you say it’s utterly worth it for all the rich nature and experiences. I’ve been to that area 4 times and never get bored and trying to plan figure out when I can next go back. Did you notice any of the vending machines around the village and unusual drinks being sold? Also in Swiss supermarkets go find the gherkin section.
Funny I’ve also stayed at the same campsite you stayed at by Luzern as well. I’m guessing you didn’t spot the massive Lindt shop next the museum on walk up to main city from campsite 😉. Enjoy the rest of your trip x
Whimdrously now ❣️ Two Lit beings, being very free a traveling an’ lovin’ with their fuzzyfam

Post to the Script: gratitude & inspiration (especially
THAT ice cream stop❄️)
You two just enjoy life, period. If you are learning to ski go somewhere cheaper like Bulgaria ❤❤❤
Great video as always girls. You crack me up with your great personalities. Keep the videos coming. Greetings for the UK. (North West)
Brilliant! Loved your face when mentioning a 4 year old passed you whilst sledging 😅 We love that place although never seen it in the winter, looks magical. Superb video as always 🚐☃️❄️
Great vlog with stunning scenery 😍 Xx
Wasn’t going to comment this week….. but you had me crying with laughter at the sledding and I really enjoyed it all. VERY, VERY good 👍 ❤
🥳🥳🥳🥳
I've been seeing things on news channels earlier this week about the lack of snow at many ski resorts including in Switzerland and I did think to myself whether you two would be in for some disappointment. At least you did get some very timely fresh snow so you could go tobogganing. BTW we've got lots of snow here in Romania, in fact a ski resort not too far from where I live had too much snow, up to two metres of it! People were trapped in the cabins and there was an avalanche which buried lots of cars. Mountain rescue teams and other emergency services had to rescue dozens of people. Thankfully no casualties.
Emily, did you know you can get snow chains to fit over your boots? They would help you avoid slipping over when doing your "two minute tour".
Another great video girls ❤️
Yeah we have spoken to a fair few locals and they said it’s the worst year for snow in a very long time but they are still hopeful 😂 I think I’d damage myself with snow snow chains 🙈
What a brilliant video. Thanks girls and AJ and Summer.
But the start of that sled run looked a bit frickin hazardous! Sheer drop the one side 😮😅
There were a few dodgy drops for sure but so much fun 😀
brilliant as always, you 2 never fail to surprise and entertain! keep it up ladies 🤗🤗😽😽🐕🐕
🇬🇧🦋🚐🐈🐕❄️
Absolutely fabulous really great to see you both enjoy yourselves , you only live once .. .
Yes totally right safety first ... take care keep safe looking forward to next adventure ... hugs to furbabies 🦋🇬🇧🥂
Brilliant! The sledding made my morning.
Superb! 🤩 You were brave on the 🛷, I would've been scared of going off course and over the edge! 😮 x
I was 😂🙈
Really, reallyyyy loved Switzerland and it's always been a dream to go so I'm so glad you's went by mistake cos I'm living vicariously through your great videos of it so cheers 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😍😍✌️🙏
Loved the F18’s shoots awesome , Camping Jungfrau is our favourite Swiss site . It was great to see it again. Thanks H and M
The sledding looks like mega-fun!
Brilliant. A masterclass on how to make an entertaining CZcams video.
wow.. just wow. My ears wanted to pop just watching you ascend.
I am only a 75-year-old "bairn" - but that sledging looks really great fun. many thanks for sharing. ATB
So much fun
loved the memories!!🤩 from when i stayed in the camp in lauterbrunnen & took the funicular up to murren for skiing... in 1982!!!🤩 🤩 🤩
You two crack me up, that sledding looked mint
I was amazed not to see any fencing along the sledding slope - scary! Glad you girls had a go. Beautiful winter wonderland. Sorry to hear about your electrical problems - that would give me a sleepless night too. Take care now!
It was really good fun
I watch a few van lifers on youtube and i think you do a great job with your videos. I know there must be times when van life isn't always the amazing experience and it can't always be easy especially with pets on board too. I like that you share some of the not so nice sides of van life as it gets awfully old when some van lifers just show themselves in wonderful locations waking up to beautiful sun rises... which i'm sure they do, but i also know that' is not to whole story and to be honest those van lifers get unsubscribed from me as i feel they are promoting a way of life that isn't strictly true. Sometimes seeing how it can be a struggle, annoying, scary, or just exhausting is needed i think.
Oh yeah definitely not all rainbows and unicorns for sure 😂
loved the soundtrack accompanying your slomo sledge run! and then started squealing as you sped up! great vid
I've just spent 2 weeks on the scenic trains and cablecars of Switzerland. It's super expensive, but do it anyway, it's worth it.
Sounds like you had a lovely time
Fingers crossed the electrical issue is but a minor one 🤞🏻
CH looked great - never mind the Francs!
Loved the Tobogganing!
And on to the next adventure. I love coming along vicariously. 😀👏🏼
we were skiing above 3,000 metres in Cervinia recently which is Italy but on the Swiss border so our phones sometimes joined Swiss service. At 3,000 you really feel the thin air.
Another wonderful video! The sledding footage was fantastic! Keep up the good work
You should have gone along with that sled idea.
You could have called it SNATCH the SNACK SLEDGE 🤪
Great video girls 👍💙❤️
Bloody loved this one.
The views were spectacular, and I found myself smiling when you were on the sleds, you were genuinely having fun. Emily is correct, you must experience the chocolates. They have a chocolate drink with brandy n cream that is to die for, and once you see the price you probably will 🤣.
Looks like you may have a faulty lead Lou.
Stay safe ladies.
Oh now that does sound nice
Wow! The electrical is scary. So glad u found it.
You know they make a solar powered vent that is used on both narrow boats and larger boats that would keep all that condensation from being a problem in your Van girls .
Absolutely loved this vlog girls I look forward to them every week amazing !
The electrical meltdown could just be the cord. If positive and negative are touching inside the cable it will melt down regardless the voltage.
Got back from Switzerland yesterday. I absolutely love it there. I’m in the middle of converting my own camper van now, hopefully be done by Easter. Can’t wait to drive it down to Switzerland. I was lucky enough to live there (in Visp in Valais) for 6 years. It is an expensive place but god it’s worth it. Love watching your videos. It’ll just be me and my dog Bailey the Beagle on our travels. Can’t wait. 🥰🇨🇭
Oh wow I bet you are super excited to get on the road, hope the build is going and continues to go smoothly 😀
I so enjoy your vids . This one is excellent. So much info and great fun. Id be freezing lol Thanks again you make an old lady very happy 😅🥰
You guys found the jets-WICKED!!!
Love Lauterbrunnen. When you two do Come back in Switserland in the summer go to Kandersteg. Just outside of town you can catch the skilift go Sunnbrun. You can do AMAZING walks above in the mountains. Love your skying though lol.
Bay Ingrid 🐾🐾Joey and Ben
What a brilliant video, you were just like little kids out in the snow for the first time, I loved it.
Have enjoyed all your videos , really look forward to your videos every week.
Take care, and yes safety comes first..😊😊
It was fun 😀
Ich mache nicht viel Worte, aber ihr seit Spitze. 🤣🚠🎿🛷
So much fun watching your videos. Thank you beautiful Ladies for filling my heart with so much joy ❤❤❤😅
Beautiful scenery and you had so much fun. Thanks for sharing. Hope you sort out your electrics too 💕
You two are like Laverne and Shirley from tv.
Nice :)
Am I allowed to say, that as a Norwegian, and probably the Swiss will agree? But I laughed when you said you couldn't ski, because there were no fresh snow.. In those conditions, fresh snow is the absolute LAST thing you want, because then you will not get the proper feel of where it is icy underneath and the risk for injuries is way bigger. Just get out and try it, no matter the snow conditions. Skiing is fun!
😂😂 thanks of course you are allowed to say that, we are soft southerners who know nothing about snow 😂😂🙈
Great thumb nail ! Happy smiling people 😀😊 ❤
I am so glad that wire didn't go off like that when yall were asleep or when the animals were home alone. 😳 If I could make a suggestion to get a camera set up in the van for when you are gone so you can check in on the fur babies and make sure everything is going well. A lil solar cam that runs off its own little panel maybe 🤔 anyway thank you both for sharing your journey with us and please continue to be safe and God bless.
Thanks, we don’t leave anything plugged in when we are out for that reason it’s just not worth it. We also have cameras 😀
Thanks guys, Great V-log. Safety first as always xx.
Love the editing on this and the windscreen Switzerland thing was brilliant 🎉❤
Thanks
Loved watching you both enjoying yourselves. X.
😀😀
Super funny adventure, thank you! What a landscape!
Great vid. The red and white jet is one of the Swiss Air Force's equivalent of the RAF Red Arrows, they do a brilliant display.
Love your episode this week its been great to see a bit of Switzerland and the adventures you've had. Look forward every week so watch your vlogs keep them coming.xx
I guarantee you the charge cable went bad and not your wall socket. When the cables start to break down it’s usually at the end from being flexed all the time. The heat is from the wires losing contact and overheating at the damaged area. No electrical anxiety needed. Good luck! We love your channel
Lou, next time you go to Switzerland, you need to try Bündner Fleisch which is air dried raw Beef sliced in paperthin slices. And of course, locally produced Cheese. There are many tiny cheese manufacturers up on the Alps and if you are lucky you can see how they make the cheese and test some of it.
I’ll make sure she does 😀
How did AJ and Summer cope with those F-18s afterburner noise? Can't believe how low the fences are! 😁
They were ok 😀
WOW! beautiful footage again, thank you. AJ when you got back from sledding ,being so excited to see you ,looked like he was trying to dob on Summer for something she got up to while you were out 😂 she looked hungry and suspicious😘
😂 he prob was
You gals have done it again. Thanks for the take along!😊
Great views girls looks amazing, must vist one day in the summer, Rosie doesn't like the cold 🥶
Beautiful! Sledding looked fun!
Emily well done with tour …. no danger & always funny!! 😅 Just love u two! Spectacular views from up on mountains! That campsite was fantastic just facilities like restaurant cater so well for Nomads/Travellers 😁💜🍻🇦🇺
😀
