Ophir & Black Bear Pass - Utah to Colorado Adventure
Vložit
- čas přidán 28. 09. 2018
- In this video we leave Moab, UT and head to the beautiful mountain of Colorado to explore the Ophir Pass trail and tackle the famous Black Bear Pass. Ophir Pass is a short, easy and very scenic trail that you an run in just under 2 hours. Black Bear Pass is a longer and much more challenging trail with a steep hill decent, tight switchbacks and some very narrow sections of trail with sheer cliff to one side. Your technical driving skills will need to be at their best for this trail. #blackbearpass #ophirpass #jeepwrangler

So apparently I must have hit my head when I fell because I said we headed West to Colorado and of course it's East.... I need to recalibrate my internal compass!
I wondered about that . I thought maybe you were out in eastern Colorado or something !. hey awesome video. I was out there in my vw bus and went up through the mine and the first 200' of black bear oustide of telluride . my budy was living in dolores. we drove is bus up out of ouray on yankee boy basin road, pretty sick. especially in a vw bus!! keep the awesome videos coming.
I just love your video style. Keep up the creative and fun work.
That would have been a heck of a trip though!!
I'm a Colorado native. I currently live in Vernal Utah. So when I heard you at the 00:06 mark,
I was wondering how in the hell I can head west to Colorado from Moab. 😆😆😆
Don't worry, we all go berserk sometimes.
another awesome video.... I'm moving to Telluride CO. I will be there before this year end. It's the most beautiful place in America.
I've been working two jobs for a month now in order to save up for a new Jeep. It's gonna be my first Jeep; and hopefully the first of many. It's not easy as I'm not used to working 16-18 hours a day, but I'm hanging in there. Your videos have been one of the main reasons I haven't given up. I can't help but dream about all the things I'll be doing once I've accomplished owning one; not that I've been having any dreams lately lol. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for your videos
Your hard work will pay off and once you get the keys to your new rig and get to go have some great adventures, it will all be worth it!
TrailRecon That's what I keep telling myself whenever I feel like quitting. That it'll all be worth it in the end. Thanks again, and keep doing what you're doing.
Just get a cherokee
txlbmx JHope I would, but the Rubicon is one of my dream cars. I would much rather just work my butt off right now while I've got my heart set on it; than to just get a placeholder car and put it off for some more time. I don't think I'd forgive myself if I put myself through this only to come up short. Plus, I'm not just saving up for the car itself, but also the mods and just rainy days in general.
Cherry Blossom Chaos Seriously, save your money, or save more to pay for all the suspension upgrades, h/duty steering component upgrades, bearings, bushes & whatever else crappy Jeeps need replacing, straight out of the showroom, before u go off the beaten trail.
I did all of the passes the last weekend in June this year. Black Bear, Engineer, Ophir, Imogene. It was one hell of a weekend! Easily the best trails I've ever been on with the best views I've ever seen.
I've driven corollas my whole life. Oh god what have i been missing!
This is definitely on my bucket list. What's really impressive is seeing videos of folks in RAV-4's like ours (08 V-6 limited) and newer ones (TRD and Adventure versions) completing the BBP trail without any problems. Thanks for the great video!
Thanks for not editing out your little backwards tumble while filming. A little chuckle and modesty goes a long way to earning much respect. I’m new to the channel but have checked out a few of your vids. Great work, I’m so jealous. There is nothing scenery wise here in the Midwest like the places you’ve been to. You’ve given much inspiration for me to plan a trip out west.
We were laughing pretty hard once we got home and viewed the footage so I thought why not share it with you all. Thank you!
Stephen Coffman I couldn’t say it better man! Brad is a down to earth dude! Always keeping it real!
@@OVRLNDX y so
Try the Wisconsin river area...beautiful area around Madison....camping on the sand bars with the river all around you
yeah well, I took my minivan the 1.2 miles to Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride. Epic. I got some respect that day.
I believe you.
@Charles Lindberg I dont believe it either but I did. Plus it was also raining that day. I had just left my ex and took off in my minivan to Colorado for some hot springs R&R.. I wouldnt recommend anyone else attempting that in a minivan but it definitely was a thrill.
@Ram Bar I am serious lol I have a video I should post on here.
I did it in my subaru crosstrek.
LMFAO!!! omg, so funny!
When I was 12, my dad drove our loaded down old Willys Jeep over that trail in 1970 with Mom and my bro. Sandwiches, dog, guns, whiskey, no flats, maps or walkie-talkies, no drama, nothing but net. We thought nothing of it, went searching for tougher terrain. He even let my 14 year-old brother drive Black Bear for a spell.
I was watching this thinking my stock tacoma could probably make it just fine unless is was missing something. I'll make sure to bring sandwiches and the dog.
@@nohabloemojislosiento4930Stock toyota will do it just fine. It's not wheeling just a narrow path. Ive done it in a chevy pickup. People have done it with ease in 3/4 ton pickups
"You don't have to be crazy to drive this road, but it helps." - C.W. McCall
That was Wolf Creek Pass, wasn't it? Beware, chickens above the 12 foot line. LOL!
Senior I believe the sign said 12’9 but the chickens were stacked to the 13 line.
Knocked off the top of the role of chicken had some onion soup mix and send a letter back to mom
@@Seanhwp check the song again good buddy, it says clearance to the 12 foot line but the chickens were stacked to 13 nine. The onion soup part was at the beginning before they started down the other side. Love that song! Sign says clearance to the 12-foot line
But the chickens was stacked to 13-nine
Well we shot that tunnel at a hundred-and-ten
Like gas through a funnel and eggs through a hen
We took that top row of chickens off
Slicker than scum off a Louisiana swamp
And the onion soup.
We was settin' there suckin' toothpicks
An' drinkin' Nehis and onion soup mix
And I says, "Earl, let's mail a card to mother
And then send them chickens on down to the other side
Yeah, let's give 'em a ride
One of my favorite hunting spots has a couple gnarly switch backs like you show around twenty minutes in. They can definitely make an easy trail feel way more dangerous! Good video, great scenery!
BPM up to 120 just watching you guys. Amazing vid. Thumbs up to you all 👍
Take care and stay safe.
14:47 Looking out that 1000ft drop makes my hands sweat. I've driven west on I 80 downhill towards Salt Lake City and just about shit my pants. You guys got ice in your veins for this video. Awesome.
I am the one who passed you doing 95.
I LOVE that you left the "fall" in the footage. Awesome!
I just bought a Jeep, and I’m a pretty new subscriber. You’re videos are amazing. Your production and camera work are awesome. I can’t imagine how long it must take you to edit and add commentaries. These adventures look amazing. I’ve already started adding little things here and there to my Jeep, but watching your videos really gets me excited to hit the trails!
My mouth went dry on some of those switchbacks!!! I can’t wait to make it out to these trails myself! Wonderful job and thank you for documenting Colorado’s beauty!
I just did the Ophir to Black Bear run, and I loved it. Raining, minor streams here and there with the occasional JKU or Gladiator driving by.
Absolutely breathtaking! Thanks Brad for sharing this with us. I found myself holding my breath several times during this video!
I found myself holding my breath while editing the video! LOL! Thanks!
Love your great high quality videos - definitely on my bucket list - keep on making them for us guys on the East coast
Just completed Black Bear Pass yesterday. It was absolutely incredible. You definitely need to pay attention what you’re doing. We stayed in telluride due to nothing being available in Ouray, so Ophir Pass was the shortest point between most of the trails we did. It’s also spectacular.
Thanks guys. My wife and I ran Black Bear, Ophir, and Imogene last month. What a blast. Your vid is definitely the best depiction I have seen. Keep up the great work!
I love America, it’s the most beautiful land on earth 🇺🇸❤️ and by the way Jeep is the best off roader ever, great, amazing video, bravo 👏
Brad, this is your best video to date and the best documentation of Black Bear that I have seen! Keep up the amazing work!
What a great compliment, thank you!!
Exceptional. My wife and I and our 2 kids did Black Bear back in the 80s... Then more recently just the 2 of us did it again..with a guide! What an experience!! Scary as hell too! But, definitely one that you have to do at least once in a lifetime. Great job!
Thanks, thats my green "nicely built Toyota " fj40 @7:16 great video!
You guys inspire me to want to do more off-roading. Now I got to find some more off-roading trails
Heck ya, get out and go have an adventure!
This was really an awesome trip! You sure checked off some of the best trails. Great job documenting the trip.
No doubt, epic road trip!
They did this road trip right!
Thank you! It really is an trip my son and I will never forget and I can't wait to start planning for the next one.
I'm just totally impressed with you guys. These trails are not for the faint of heart and those who can't keep their eyes on the trail and pick the right line to approach (that's for sure)!
When a Rubicon is hesitant, that tells you something. Great vlog, I was VERY nervous and sensed the anxious moments like I was there!!!!!!!
Spectacular. It’s on my list for someday, but those steep ledges are frightening!
This was an amazing video! I sat in the galley of our RV and cried on the chest of our Labrador Retriever while my husband drove Independence Pass in CO....I'd be out walking on this one.
I was raised in Aspen and learned to drive on Independence Pass. Not nearly as scary as city traffic, to me at least. I've driven through most major cities at one time or another. Dallas rush hour was one of the most hair raising of my life.
What an awesome video with epic views!!!! This is definitely on our bucket list to do the with the family. 👍👊💥
I have been having JEEP FEVER for nearly a year now. Amazing video and amazing trip. I can not wait until I experience adventures like this. Thank you for sharing :D
Funny seeing all the specialty vehicles driving the same trails we did in or vw vanagon. Yep two wheel drive Queen mattress camping gear wife ,son in wheelchair ,german short haired pointer had a blast.
The nice thing about trail etiquette is helping others in need no matter the rig or situation. My comment was not of jealousy but of the memory. My son has since passed but I doubt many children with muscular dystrophy have experienced the places first hand that he did.
Most of what is done to these rigs is out of a love for modifying and upgrading. Competent driving skills go a long way. A stock 4X4 will go everywhere a heavily modified rig will go with the exception of the toughest trails. Sure maybe not as easy but it can be done. For what these guys like to do there is no such thing as "over" prepared. Just in case...
I've watched a bunch of videos on BBP and this is one of the best I've viewed. You have a real artistic eye and showed interesting sections that are seldom seen. Kudos!
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that.
Agreed, I was thinking the same thing.
Did this with a great group of guys seven years ago. Imogene Pass, Engineer pass, and Black Bear pass. Back to COS thru Montrose. Awesome! Broke an SKD quick disconnect at the first drop on Back Bear.
Spectacular beautiful ride....
Thank y’all for sharing. Ciao y’all
Wonderful edit and the Pika at 4:27 was awesome! Love those little guys.
I did Black Bear Pass, Engineer Pass, and Imogene Pass last June and plan on going back this Summer. Next to Moab it's in my all time favorite places to go Jeeping.
How was it?
Я часто смотрю некоторые ваши видео ролики очень приятно смотреть,и природа тоже не повторимо.спасибо вам.
That was so good to watch ! What an awesome trip ! Nice trails and amazing scenery, that's perfect !
Thanks for sharing 🙏
Wow. Spectacular and that will be as close as I get to that trail. My fear of single width roads and heights, no thanks.
wow I love this vlog, the cameraman very professional, it look like a high budget film..
Outstanding video, thanks! It's great that you include the coordinates of the spots.
I moved to Colorado from New York almost 10 years ago and love the mountains! I have to say I do miss the beach, I left behind.. Love seeing a video of you all wheeling in CO!
Very cool work; love the fact that you were humble enough to leave your tumble footage in the final product!
beautifull magnificient and freaking scary to go down the mountains
I have wanted to hit that trail for years, about 25 that is. I always love watching vehicles navigate the pass.
Brilliant video.Fantastic Wranglers doing their job.Thanks.
Dang! I would love to do that ride!
You are getting really good at cinematography.
That was great 👍. I’ve been wanting to do the alpine loop. Thanks Brad for all your hard work posting these vids
Really cool to see you guys do black bear. Was in Colorado about a month before you guys got there and my cousin took us on black bear, most fun I've had in a long time even during the switchbacks
best video Ive seen on BBP to date. I'll be heading out there July 2019 to drive it and some others with friends. thanks for sharing the video
Great views! I just drove the Alcan Highway from Dawson Creek to Tok then onto Anchorage.
One thing I really like about your videos is the music. It fits the mood. I hate the constant heavy metal some CZcamsrs feel the need to use.
It's been 20 years since I did black bear pass. Watching this brings back a lot of memories.
Love the GPS coordinates, loved the video, loved the views. Thanks for a great trip guys.
I LOVE UR CHANNEL ALOT AND I AM WATCHING UR ALL VIDEO..LOVE FROM INDIA❤❤❤
You have the best video of Black Bear pass. You definitely should’ve went to Alta lakes (beautiful and great fishing). There is camping in that area as well. We’ve been to that area 7 times and are going in July 2019.
Next time we will be sure to make time for Alta Lakes... thank you!
Thanks so much for sharing this video. I just recently got a Rubicon Unlimited after 20 years of not having a Jeep since my last Jeep. Working 12 -6 hours a day paying the bills and for the kids college, I need this to start living life again and your videos inspire me to get out, and have adventures with great people live those on your videos. Hope to see you all on the trails some day. Keep up your inspirational and educational videos. They are appreciated by many.
This is my favorite vid that you've done yet MC! Thank you for the great vids!
Glad you enjoyed the adventure, thank you!
After seeing this video, I don't think this trail is for me. I am appreciative for your videos. Keep up the great work and good luck on the TRailRecon Jeep sales.
Those Land Cruisers 😍
John Adams check out the solid axle summit. This was our second year doing it all in vintage land cruisers. Definitely an amazing experience and can’t wait for next year.
@@samarcher5761 that's awesome, thank you. I've got a 95 80 series
Really diggin the ‘guide’ style of this video. Great camera work, too. Thanks for this. I’ve been dreaming about that place since about ‘80/‘81 when I heard C.W. McCall’s song.
About to head up to these trails in two weeks!! Gonna tackle a few others in the area. Definitely excited.
I laugh every time he pronounces it "Oh fear" pass : ))
Always can tell when someone is not from Co!
Good Look friends
From Iraq 🇮🇶
@Charles Lindberg LMAO! hummmmmmm?
@Charles Lindberg What would even make you think I did?
@Charles Lindberg The fact that you asked. What game do you like to play?
@Charles Lindberg
Charles Lindberg
@Trusten Baker Do you live in Iraq ?
@Charles Lindberg
You asked, soo......
My TJ and I spent 4 years living in the Rockies. Congrats on taking my breath away....There are miles of footage available but few match what you have managed to capture. Great job !
Superb vehicle--even better marketing & presentation --Queenstown WOW!!!!-- gotta get one of these beats!!!
"I don't need 37's, I don't need 37's, I don't need 37's"...Damn you Brad!!!
LOL! Well you don't... but they sure are nice!
35's are the perfect size for nearly ant obstacle but once you go bigger you never want to go back
Nope, nope, nope! Ain't doin it! Super beautiful views but I was getting sweaty palms just watching. I have a fear of heights that apparently works even from an office chair. What's even crazier is I'm a pilot but there is something different about sitting between a pair of wings and rolling down that trail. Thanks for sharing though because I would probably never see this trail otherwise!
I agree, this couldn't have been a "moderate" trail.
As a photographer i am amazed how these little guys blend in with the landscape. This one is 4.26-4.28 I Really like your videos. Thanks
On my Bucket List! I think every trip you take is on my bucket list...
Soon....will start checking off that list!
Wow beautiful amazing views! ❤✌️
100000000 like for the ones who opened the road
10000000 like for the photographer
The Skelly at 5:17 is a hidden gem! did you guys have anything to do what that? lol
You've got a good eye! I didn't even notice it until I got home and was reviewing the video footage.
What is a skelly? lol
@@lyndilee2955 look for it at the time frame 5:17 :)
You know I noticed the skeleton right away when you went by, my eye was drawn to it......
That's a goo damn eye!
Thank you so much for your amazing camera footage and commentary. Watching this brought back memories of my 2017 trip down Blackbear pass with my brother Dennis.
I was driving my 1989 YJ and yes that trail is spectacular, but please keep your eyes on the trail.
So glad I found a new sub....... Thanks
The best video of watched yet on black bear pass. Great footage and informative. It’s on the list for 2023 for us. Can’t wait.
Thank you and best of luck on your trip next year!
Awesome video and scenery. I'm curious, would a stock JK been able to do that trip?
I think a stock JK would be just fine.
HARY 5150 lol probably
@Reggie Koval yep, I watched it.
find some some 2 doors or 2 door or lj i now you guys love your 4 doors but lets go back to the roots of the jeep 2 door and lets keep them alive
thats my green 1983 fj40 @15:58 wheelin with sas 2018
Can't wait to see Imogene since we just did it the first week of September, rain and snow for us.
Awesome trip! I would like to go there some day. Do you think I could at least do the scenic pass in a BMW X3 (yes I'm serious)? It has roughly 8 inches of ground clearance and an approach angle (25.7°) and departure angle (22.6°).
bmwproboi05 low gears( transfer case) and good offroad tires, aired down make all the difference. Limited slip, lockers and center diff help too.
Don't forget the most import, competent driving skills. @@rollinrat4850
sublime929
true that!!!
Dude, respect the warning signage, and do your homework before attempting Black Bear Pass or any other in the those mountains.
You could do it in a Honda Civic. So yes. I certainly hope so.
Great video. By the way Ophir is pronounced Ofur.
you have to forgive him cause hes from KALIFORNA. LOL
Thanks for beautiful scenery that I've never seen before
Rewatching this video cause we will be doing this trail and Ophir and Imogene next week.
Thanks for the sneak peek.
This reminds me, to fix my brakes 🤔
If that’s rated moderate, what the hell is considered hard?
things that you'll get reminded of daily because you see the marks on your vehicle
Hey Brad we'll just chalk up the "East/West" mix up to Altitude and lack of oxygen! I have been waiting for this video to come out. Thank you! What an amazing job as always. I'm glad you enjoyed running Black Bear. I've ran it 3 times and can't wait to go back again. Looking forward to the Imogene video!!
Definitely on my bucket list.
This video was one of - if not THE best videos about Black Bear Pass I have ever seen! Great footage, great editing, great commentary.
Nice! One of the few videos online that give a decent perspective on the off-camber of The Steps.
The light grey and the white Jeeps are the best. Plus the trail is astounding.
I don't know how many times I have been accross these trails. Because I live there! Definitely some beautiful mountains out here!
We did Ophir Pass and Last Dollar Pass this summer. It was great. We love your video. We rented a Jeep in Ouray and were prohibited from doing Black Bear Pass. That is still on my to-do-list. Keep up the great videos.
Going on BB tomorrow. Absolutely love these parts of Colorado. The Alpine Loop is nice to, many colors this time of year.
This ones on the bucket list! Good watch!
Down from this mountain pass during any adverse weather is insane! Especially
I liked that Landcruiser convoy :)
I love living in Colorado. There is so much to do in the Rockies. Nothing like exploring and finding old mining remnants and trapper cabins.
Always an emphasis on safety, awesome videos.
that one downhill rocky section made my palms sweat!!! Keep on Jeepin
Planning to get a JL Rubicon 2-door early next year. Awesome adventure you guys had there.
