    The "shushing scene" "People can hear us" "They'll think we're fighting": It's Edvin's least favourite scene of the season, Edvin hated doing that but he explained why Wille did it: it's learned behavior from his mother, all his life Wille has been sushed and told to be quiet and keep up appearances so that people wouldn't think that there is a conflict or fight.

    The Crown Prince role is slowly taking over Wille and Wille's life. He has known since ep. 1 that his mother is having mental issuess and he blames himself for that. Also the pressure to take over for her so she can rest is growing and growing, as well as the pressure to replace her "perfect Erik". And the PR telling Wille to "control" Simon. All of this subconsciously makes him start behaving more and more in the way he has learnt from his mother, which worsens his anxiety.

    I already said somewhere, that I think that Simon is still considered a regular citizen, even dating the prince, the royal court can't force him to do anything. They could give him some advice, how to handle the social media, but at the end of the day, he can do whatever he wants, since he is not an official member of the royal family.

    • @LM-EntertainmentAustralia
      @LM-EntertainmentAustralia Před 3 měsíci +4

      it doesnt change the fact that they could still have a word to him about it though. these are the things adults should be doing who are being paid to manage the royal families affairs. sure, even if they talk with him about it he could still ignore it.. but at least then it takes the pressure of "wille" and doesnt make him look like the bad guy forever telling simon what he can and can't do.

    They put way too much on Wille here. First telling him to "control" what Simon puts out on social media. Then they keep just piling it on Wille without any break. Simon has his mom, Wille has no one. The closest parent he's got in this episode is Farima and she's just there for PR and to make sure nothing blows up. Since Erik died, Wille pretty much has been raising himself.

    • @Knoutzbeary
      @Knoutzbeary Před 3 měsíci +3

      You are so right, Wille has no one. And, telling your 16-year-old son "You'll have to be strong now”, putting all this pressure on him, just a few months after his brother died and while his mother is sick, is such bad parenting. I felt so sorry for Wille.

    • @therainbowreels
      @therainbowreels  Před 3 měsíci +2

      Couldn't agree more. Erik was the one who really cared for Wille. Not saying Kristina is not, but it always feels like she puts the crown first.
      We don't remember which episode it was in season two, but Wille literally had to ask her to behave like his mother for a moment and not the queen.
      Explains also why he is so anxious.

    I felt from the beginning, that the royal court intentionally made Wille deal with Simon’s behavior to make them grow apart. I would assume that normally they would brief Simon right away about the things he can and can not do. But they keep using Wille as a messenger. They just want Wilmon to fail….

    • @iceastone
      @iceastone Před 3 měsíci +4

      i understand that. it's easy to get that vibe cause they could've stepped in once they returned to school to go talk to simon and his mom right away. wille could've been there as well and an actual plan to go about things could've been handled a lot better. it's obvious this was set specifically this way.

    • @gust5762
      @gust5762 Před 3 měsíci +4

      I agree! Given how much control the court has over everything, not coaching Simon and letting Wille be the “bad guy” seems intentional. The court is not taking the relationship seriously. It also feels malevolent and even homophobic to let their relationship deteriorate.

      I do agree they should’ve had a talk with Simon sooner, but if you see the first talk in the between Farima and Wille he then says he wants to handle it/talk to Simon. So I interptret it as them letting him/Wille be able to do it that way./talk to Simon. Not as the crown intentionally wanting to tear them apart.

I think Wille feels better being the one to communicate things with Simon rather than the royal court because he doesn't want to scare him off...notice how cautiously he tries to approach the issue with the video - he knows what it feels like to be controlled and suppressed by the court and probably knows Simon wouldn't put up with that (which is one of the reasons he loves him)

    I think something they do really well this season is have all the issue that played out in the background in the past season finally get addressed directly. For instance the class difference between Simon and Wilhelm has always been there from the very start but they never really discussed it directly because there was always some way bigger drama going on but now that they’re in a somewhat more stable place these issues are coming to the forefront. Similarly with the micro aggressions of racism that Felice has experienced in past seasons have become a major plot point for her this season. It show what great writing and forethought they had to plant these seeds early on so theses storylines aren’t just popping up out of nowhere like a lot of other show do.

    In my opinion, this Episode was the beginning of a contradiction that gets more and more obvious each Episode:
    from the very first moment, it seems to be Simon's rebellious streak that fascinates Wille the most: he gets bullied while singing and sings even louder, he openly expresses his opinion in class and isn`t intimidated by August. He unapologetic does what feels right, no matter what anybody else thinks.
    But now, it feels like Wille has to “sush” the very thing he likes most about Simon so that Simon fits into his own life. But would he have seen Simon in the first place, if Simon was this quiet, well-behaved boy, the royal coard wants him to be? If Simon would change this much, would he even feel the same for him anymore?

    • @therainbowreels
      @therainbowreels  Před 3 měsíci +2

      That’s a very good point! He fell in love with Simon for a reason and having to literally “shush” him now is probably not easy for Wille. At the same time he’s got Farima in his neck and also the pressure of his mother suffering from mental health issues. So he probably feels like he needs to avoid any drama!

  • @linnea547
    @linnea547 Před 3 měsíci +8

    But would Simon have said those nasty things to Sara had she not gotten involved with August? Like that was coming from his anger feeling betrayed because his sister lied to him to protect August. Like I can see where he would draw that conclusion, because in his head, everything started with August.
    Also, the shushing is really interesting because that’s 100% something that his mother has done to him and I think he’s of the mindset that private things should be private because his family is that way so he probably did it without thinking not that that makes it OK. 🥴
    Love your reactions !!

      We agree partially. Simon is not wrong, but he is also not right.
      Having said that, the same goes for Sara. She should have spoken to Simon before calling the police, but that's his sister. She acts first and thinks after.
      Wille seems to be becoming his mother more and more 🙈

      @@therainbowreels I get that Sara is a sympathetic character (this season) and I do feel bad for what she's going through and root for her. But Simon has every right to be angry with her and to express that anger. She literally was the first person to find out that August filmed and posted a video of her brother having sex which blew up his whole life, causing him to get a ton of hate from people all throughout the country and destroying his relationship. When she found this out she WENT TO AUGUST, ACCEPTED A BRIBE TO KEEP QUIET AND KISSED HIM. Like that is HORRENDOUS and I feel like people often need reminding that those were all her choices so she needs to be held accountable like August does for his. Simon can tell her to f*ck off as long as he needs.

  • @psg_609
    @psg_609 Před 3 měsíci +13

    This was one of the best episodes I think. Finally we start to see under the surface of each of the characters. August and Nils experienced something horrible during initiation. They were so affected they made sure it wouldn’t happen when they were in charge. August shows his vulnerability and in his own way, he does truly care for Sara. (NO, not asking for Team August shirt 😉) but I feel him. Sara so sad over Simon, she goes to her dad, the worst place ever. But is it? Does she hate him or was she hurt and disappointed by him? Much like what Simon is feeling toward her.
    Wille is on his on crazy train. So protected from real world by being the spare he wasn’t taught how to handle stress. He often puts his problems above Simon’s. The one thing no one can fix for him though is getting him his mothers attention. He needs her love. Her absence isn’t just abandonment-it’s skyrocketing him to a fate he has never wanted: King at 18. He’s a kid and just wants to love, be loved and fit in. Felice is showing the strains that racial bigotry has been taking. She’s part of the rich and royal world but she’s still on the outside. The cracks in everyone’s armor are showing. Simon who seems to get it most of the time is starting to feel the pain and struggle to be himself. Wille’s redlight is now Simon’s. Love is still there between him and Wille but how much does he have to endure to embrace it? Wille’s very abrupt “shssh” was not just startling but squashing. It was very symbolic of the royal court. Dont let anyone see inside. Be quiet. Simon from the beginning has had strong thoughts and opinions. Now he’s being told subconsciously that’s not ok.
    Real world. Real life. In the open, out from behind the castle walls can be harsh.

      @@therainbowreels That's something that always seemed insane to me with royal families. When they have more than 1 child (2 or more), it would make more sense to prep both or all your kids on possibly inheriting the throne 1 day. Anything can happen at anytime to anyone, especially if they have no heirs themselves (like Erik). Not preparing your kids for that kind of responsibility just seems neglectful and irresponsible.

    27:20 I hate that they fought on the one night they could spend together.
    This whole scene I can see from both sides. Wille was trying to help by redirecting the conversation away from the fact that Rosh and Ayub had never been to NYC or traveled outside of their town. He was trying to establish a commonality. Wille doesn't have a choice about going to "prince school" but he doesn't need to work to afford necessities. Rosh and Ayub have to work to afford clothing and necessities, but they do have some choice about he kind of work they do. Simon is just seeing the money aspect of working. He's the one pointing out the differences of class, workers vs the elite/rich. But then Wille brings up the money from August, being a bit snarky reminding him of his sudden wealth.
