If you want to know more about How to train your dragon, there is a series I think with six seasons between the first and second movie
this way you will understand better, how they came to be what they are in the second film
Please react to how to train your dragon 3, I assure you that will make you cry more than how to train your dragon 1 or 2 but 2 is the most sorrow for the death of Stoic and the alpha
The first movie he is 15 the second one he is 20
When hiccup pulls his sword out with his flame saber, your black kitty walked up in the background.
JV: "I'm not gonna cry this time."
Narrator: "he lied as easily as he breathed."
your tears just hit me so much!
narrator: he said, you know, like a liar
@@benjamingreenham9132 same Iâm crying rn lmao

I dont know if he edits his own videos but whoever does should add Morgan Freeman quotes when he says something too perfect
The tough part about sharing these movies with my niece and nephew is that I'm holding back tears the entire time.
Why

Stoic's death?
The dragons leaving?

Do they Shame you for crying ?
I just realized something re-watching this movie.. Hiccupâs mom says Toothless is Hiccupâs age. So when he got shot down and crippled he was only 15.. how scary that mustâve really been for him.. makes me appreciate the first movie even more.
Might also explain how cute and childish Toothless acts lol, heâs still sort of a kid dragon!
â@@awesomeaustenkittyyep it's a cat mixed to a Dragon
Drago found the alpha as an egg and abused him as he grew up, that's why the alpha obeys him, and that's what differentiates Drago from Hiccup. While Hiccup gets the dragons to follow him by trust, Drago does it by fear.
I thought that Drago's alpha was the father of Valka's alpha
And Drago literally forced it to kill his own child
Please don't get angry at me
It's been a while since I've seen the series and such so I can't remember for sure if it was ever explicitly said or anything
@@lewissandras108 never explicitly said on the movies, but that might have been the case in the books or the series.
@@valentinafangirling Thank you for responding
I appreciate it
^^
@@valentinafangirling At the end of the tv show on Netflix it shows Hiccup leaving an alpha egg at a spot so someone could take care of it. And after he leaves his mom comes up and takes the egg, and thats the alpha that the mom had.
@@tb24sst81 Actually the alpha that the mom had is not the egg, in the movie she said something between the lines like "I've been with them for 20 years" which is not possible for the egg to grow up that fast. But in the show you were talking about, race to the edge in one of the last episodes, it shows an adult version which I like to believe that's the one showed in this movie because when hiccup and the alpha meet, the alpha blows some ice on him and the mom says "he likes ya"
Fun Fact about this movie:
The scene where Astrid mocks how Hiccup sounds was kinda improv. Jay and America didn't record their lines together other than this scene to get a more authentic banter. So they did those lines in the same room, playing off of each other and Jay's real gestures, as well as America then quickly poking fun at him, is what the animators then used.

You will absolutely love Megamind. A SERIOUSLY underrated movie and one of my all-time favorites!
I loved it. It's up on my Patreon!
Its a very interesting thing is that in the first movie the big queen mama dragon from the cave was forcing the dragons to feed her, while the Great Bewilderbeast feeds them all like a actual alpha
The difference between a boss and a leader
I always took it as a symbol of the fact that that first alpha was messing up the natural ecosystem- they're living on the ocean, every dragon native to the area was (or course) eating fish. For whatever reason, that alpha was a land dragon and couldn't eat/didn't like fish, so it forced the smaller dragons to bring in land meals (sheep from the village), which in turn drove the conflict with the Vikings. With that alpha gone, there's far less competition for the available land based meat, and so less conflict.
With the Bewilderbeast, it is naturally a sea/water dragon, perfectly adapted to hunting/eating sea food (might even be like the biggest whales, which are krill and plankton eaters), and so can provide fish and other foods to the smaller dragons, rather than vice-versa.
@@AlexSilverCat in the movie hiccups mom says "every nest has its queen but this is their true alpha"
"The chief...has come home."
One of my favorite lines here
Drago abused the bewilderbeast when it was young and traumatized it.
You donât know that. Drago asserts himself in anger and the dragons are nice. He probably did some other shit too.
You donât know that so donât try to convince people just because you assume youâre right
@@judeless77 ??? Wasnât that in the books though?
Another fun fact: Hiccups mother was supposed to be the antagonist but then they changed it.
And skullcrusher (stoicks dragon) and stormfly (astrids dragon) are a part of the tracker class wich means they have good sense of smell (the reason skullcrusher and stormfly are always the ones tracking something)
Understandable to cry a lot in this one, this is my favorite of all 3 movies. There's also a good TV series called Race to the Edge taking place before this movie
Don't forget the two series before that "Riders of Berk" and "Defenders of Berk" which I know is basically one show but with the seasons being called those two different names. Also, don't forget the "Gift of the Night Fury" Christmas short movie, that was so good and wholesome, and actually comes into play in the third movie with that one scene.
I LOVE Race to the Edge. Riders/ Defenders of Berk is great too, but I love where they took the story in Race to the Edge.
Yes, race to the edge is awsome !
Also yes. Hiccups fire "sword" (its not really a sword, if you look closer at it, it actually does not have any blade and is just two metal prongs that are connected at the top by another, slightly rounded, metal piece.) was in fact inspired by lightsabers since, the director is a huge Star Wars fan.
In the series that occurs between the 1st and 2nd movie, I believe it shows Hiccup making the sword!
Well at first he makes a version, then upgrades it to be longer. Someone makes a similar blade and he bases it if of that personâs design
Fun fact: his flame sword was an actual sword until in race to the edge he saw viggo grimborns better flame sword which he made after seeing hiccups( this is also where hiccup got the zippleback gas idea)
@@im_cheepy1143 yeah he users monstrous nightmare gell to coat the blade, and then presses the button to make a spark that ignites it
I just realized that Toothless killing Stoick was basically foreshadowed. In the first one, Toothless was basically about to kill him for Hiccop. And Stoick sacrificed himself for Hiccop
There's 3 movies, 5 short films, two TV shows, and two books that are part of the film canon.
There is also a lot non canon video games.
And the source material. Which are books.
'..I'm sorry, Dad' breaks me every single time I watch this movie, it's okay
Funfact: the alpha dragon (the more white and friendly looking one) is 3 years old and was rescued by valka. it shows that in race to the edge.
The sad this I JUST noticed after watching this movie like 10 times is the alpha bewilderbeast looks so sad and hurt when he realized what he did to Stoak.
Just for those who don't know, httyd also has some shows and holiday specials
Best part is theyâre good, and 2/3 shows r amazing
omg yes, the dragons race to the edge series is so amazing!
@@liseychim9452 my fav
I watched almost every single episode of race to the edge, really recommend you to watch it
28:22 No matter how many times I see that scene, I always end up crying
The song "For the dancing and the dreaming" that literally now they can only dance again in dreams ...
i can't- *sobs*
I'm glad you mentioned the "beasts in the water". Those are Thunderdrums and it's one of the many reasons you should watch the shows. They expand the lore and the world of How to Train Your Dragon far beyond what the movies do with the characters, places, and dragons. And some of the latter make bried appearances in the shows. Note that Hiccup mentions a Whispering Death shortly after they crash in the beginning. My favorite thing about this franchise is the incredible diversity among the different species of dragons. Pretty much every dragon in the book from the first movie is featured in the shows, plus dozens more. I think there's a Scauldron in the beginning of the third one
I'm pretty sure they were Sea Shockers or Scauldrons, but yes, it's an amazing series!
i LOVE how emotional this guy gets. i hate watching people react to medias i love when theyre really muted and dont get excited or emotional during my favorite parts, it kinda defeats the purpose if theyre not gonna get into it yknow? only been watching the past day and hes already my favorite new channel đđ»
Stoick and Valka were only together for 20 minutes before Stoick died. Iâm SOOOOOOOO thankful you cut out the part that makes me bawl even harder!!!!!! The part when Toothless snaps out of Dragoâs Bewilderbeastâs control and goes to check on Stoick⊠and Hiccup pushes him away and yells at him! Fun fact: two out of those three sounds Toothless made while Hiccup yells at him, heâs never made before! He had never been yelled at like that before and he didnât even know what had just happened! They both needed hugs!!!!!! The scene with Hiccup trying to snap Toothless out of the Alphaâs control is hands down one of my favorites in the entire Franchise! I didnât know this until a couple years ago, but Dragoâs name is Drago Bludvist, not Bloodfist. I thought it was Bloodfist for the longest time! A lot of people hate on the third movie, but I love it! Iâm excited to see what you thought of it! I love how you said you werenât going to cry in this one.
As someone who watched the shows as they came out, the thought never occurred to me that for people who didn't watch the shows, this was the very first time learning the names of the dragons, which feels super weird because by the time this came out, I was already well accustomed to their names
HTTYD 1: Stoic should really listen to Hiccup

I second THE LION, THE WITCH, & THE WARDROBE
But I recommend reading the books first.
All 3 of the live action Narnia movies are technical masterpieces, but the second 2 are TERRIBLE when it comes to keeping to the source material ESPECIALLY Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
I appreciate your reactions as you don't try to break everything down and pause it every 30 seconds to try and figure out the plot lines and predict everything. You let yourself enjoy the movie and be shocked by some things. So many reactors mess up the reactions by trying to be "smarter than everyone" and predict what's going to happen. They don't even let themselves enjoy the movies.

Spirit stallion of the cimarron is a amazing movie from dreamworksđ„° I grew up with how to train your dragon and Spirit and I'm very happy about itđ

You donât need to prove yourself to us, man. A real man can do all of those things and still be in touch with his heart.
Stoickâs Death in How to Train your Dragon 2 is still the saddest death in any animated film/show for me personally, because I became so emotional invested in his character over the years. I saw the first movie and all of the Dragons: Riders of Berk episodes and watched his character progress from hating dragons to having one of his own. Then I saw the second movie 4 years later and watched him reunite with his wife after he thought he had lost her forever. He was so happy that his family was finally back together again, then moments later he died trying to protect what he had just gotten back. And on top of that Drago forced Toothless to kill him, and Stoick had accepted Toothless into his family and the last thing he saw was him jumping in front of a blast protecting his only son from dying to his best friend⊠That broke me. He was a great man, a warrior, a chieftain, a father, a friend.
*Rest In Peace Stoick Haddock the Vast. Your legend and sacrifice will never be forgotten.*
"You're as beautiful as the day I lost you."
I've seen this movie countless times, and that line still makes me tear up.
This series is a masterpiece. Definitely my favorite movie series.
"I'm not gonna cry."
Me: "Wanna bet? If nothing get's you before the reunion between Valka and Stoick, that will get you for sure. ;) "
Astrid and Hiccup didnât came together after the first movie. They came together maybe a year before the second movie. They show how their relationship started in the Netflix show.
"You're as beautiful as the day I lost you." One of THE best cinematic choices in history. Broke me.

@@marveldreamworks5330 Sure, good movies toođđđŒ
What's interesting about his fire sword, the one he calls Inferno, is it is an actual retractable sword (inspired from Toothless) but coated with Monstrous Nightmare gel (extremely flammable gel that the dragon secretes, that's why it can set itself on fire). It was showed how he made that in the tv series (Race to the Edge), along with him making his flight suit and testing it. It was a really good series if you want to watch!
And they say why men dont cry with Titanic? Well, we save our tears for animated movies about dragons and vikings.
29:55 âmaybe everythingâs gonna be fineâ
Me: AHAHHAHAH-
Last one, I promise. I don't mean to come off as someone who over-posts, I literally just tend to do this with HTTYD.
The general idea is that Drago got his Bewilderbeast at some point when it was either an egg, or a very young dragon, and he beat it into submission when it was young, so it grew up learning to fear him and obey him. Sadly, stuff like this does happen in real life
It would have been when it was a young dragon. Since at the end of Race to the edge the good alpha is still an egg when Valka gets it and the bad alpha is a bit bigger than the good alpha.
@@nghtmrz4657 this kind of makes me wonder, do dragons grow up really fast in this universe? Because there are several times when we see a certain dragon as a baby and then see them again as a full grown adult, and not much time could've passed. Like with Torch and Garff. That could also explain this thing with Drago and his Bewilderbeast. He found it when it was still relatively young some time between the end of RTTE and the second movie, and in that time it grew up. What if baby dragons take a year or so to grow into adults and then their growth just kind of levels off for the rest of their lives?
@@jneumy566 yeah i always kind of thought about it that way, it would make sense for dragons to have adapted that way considering they were being killed left right and centre by humans for a long time
Perfect timing! I just rewatched this unreal masterpiece again tonight (probably the most important movie of my life, to be honest) and it never fails to blow me away.
I really like how involved you are in watching these movies, that you react with genuine emotions, and that you even take notes to remember the names and check the information from the previous movie.
I really appreciate how you turn off the video whenever your cat walks by, i love seeing him
"I'm not gonna cry for this one!"
Stoic's death: Are you sure about that?
5:07 You're thinking of Quidditch. The sport on broomsticks. That's what it's named.
âHe could calm them down from a babyâ the point here is that dragons arenât aggressive only when provoked but I can understand the mixup
"things are too good, MAYBE EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE" LOL
Bolt would be a good animated movie to react to đ
holy shit, i use to love Bolt as a kid wtf thank u for reminding me of it
The thing is though that I love about Hiccup is that he knows he can't change everyone's mind but it won't stop him from trying. I think it just really shows his heart for people and humanity, not just Dragons. That he will always extend a hand before using it. He always gives a chance, because there is always so much more to people than what meets the eye. He always gives a chance. And I just think it's beautiful. He never does it unwisely either.
I dunno I just feel like we should be more like that, we should be more like Hiccup.

My personal favorite of the trilogy I think it great. Cant wait for part 3.
Just so you know, in the animated series, Stoic had 2 Dragons, which the later also appears in the movie

"I'm gonna hold it in!"... Famous last words. I was watching and waiting for you to crack xD
he's 15 in the first and 20 in the 2nd! i remember there being a promotional thingy about it on facebook like a bit before the movie dropped in theaters and it was saying how old he was now and how life has changed since the dragons lol and also he was like a little infant when the mom got taken away and they're both saying she left for 20 years so that'd make him 20, if not at most 21 in this movie, and a year passes in the 3rd movie so probably 21/22 in that one

Out of all the reactions I have seen yours is by far the best. Well said and emotional.
And definitely get those tissues ready for the third film.
Hiccup is 6'1 in this movie. He's 5'4 in the first movie, but he grew up to 6'1 around the time period of the second movie. He's 20 in this movie. Also he's been working on the glider suit since the Netflix series Race To The Edge.
"Maybe ever thing is going to be fine"
You poor thingđ
In the beginning of the vid he kept saying, he wasnât gonna cry, I just kept thinking about the part where Stoick died and I was like âOh no, oh no oh no oh no, this is gonna be bad.â
The thing I love most about Astrid is that once Hiccup finally won her over, she gave him full, unwavering support and loyalty. She would challenge him, but only to help him make sure he was making the best possible choices.
Every man wants a wpman like that, with that kind of support.
I love your reactions dude. Similar to my own. Glad I subscribed.
Thanks. Many more animated movie reactions on the way
Suggestion: Brother Bear! An underrated 2-D Disney film. Soundtrack by Phil Collins, great characters, timeless message, and ngl *very emotional*. If you donât wanna cry itâs not the one lol.
I also like that all the battles have actual consequences what makes them feel way more realistic. Like that first one losing a leg, the second as hard as it is both Leanders die and the 3rd basically losing the dragons
JV: I'm not going to cry for this one.
Movie: Challenge excepted.
Dang, man..
I just get so incredibly emotional watching you react with such pure emotion and exceitement and heartbreak to a film that I am so in love with.

I share the tears man, every one.
I love this movie, and I'm so overwhelmed and overjoyed that you do too.
I love this movie and your reaction was great! This movie is such an emotional rush!
Fun Fact: Animators used a combination of a lion and gorilla roar to create Toothlessâ roar!
The flame sword is made during the series Dragons race to the edge. Itâs a blade which Hiccup can fill with monstrous nightmare gel (the fluid the monstrous nightmare uses to set itself on fire) and with the press of a button on the sword, like a lighter the gel ignites so it becomes the flame sword
Hiccup
First film: 15 years old
Secound film: 20 years old
Toothless:
same age as hiccup
I really suggest watching Rise of the Guardians, another Dreamworks film but extremely underrated imo!
Recommending before I start watching and crying along w/ you: there are many amazing animated movies out there, but I think one of the most underrated ones is Meet The Robinsons. This one and Megamind are among those that I don't understand why ppl don't talk much about.
I love the way Stoick says âMercyâ and âBerkâ
JV, please don't apologize for crying. It's so refreshing that you share your tears while watching -- it's why we want to watch with you (and Jane) -- you are showing us your honest reactions. My favorite part about this movie is that Stoic is willing to accept Velka saying "No". He didn't get to say goodbye last time, but now that he gets the chance he'll accept it if need be
How to train your dragon also has a show. It's called Raiders of Burk, it's on Netflix I believe. 4-6 seasons. It's really good. It's between the first and second movie I think. It fleshed out the characters and story even more.
Do you mean Berk?
Riders of Berk, Defenders of Berk, and Race To The Edge.
Fun fact: Most Dreamworks movie shows are canon. For example, rise of berk tells what happened in a 2 year gap while race to the edge tells how Hiccup made Inferno
I came for your tears, love how much you cry. Makes the commentary/reaction more deep
I watched this movie in the cinema at 2015 with my grandma and brother.
