    ANOTHER POSSIBLE MISTAKE - Forgot to sign child's passport. Although this is not related to OCI application or VFS but parents should remember to sign child's passport, and upload the copy on the signed passport on GOV site and send self attested copy of only signed passport to VFS. In US passport it is mandatory to sign passport. In case of minor a parent should write child's name in the designated filed, sign it and write his relation with the child.

    Just a clarification on the affidavit in lieu of originals. The role of a notary is very state specific. For example, in california, a notary will NOT VERIFY that the photocopies are true copies of the originals. Their role is ONLY to certify that the person signing the document is the person who he/she is claiming to be. This is also stated in the certificate they attach to this document.

    • @LearnwithAmine
      @LearnwithAmine  Před 22 dny

      Yes, it is still appropriate to have a notary public notarize an affidavit in lieu of originals, even in California where the notary's role is limited. It confirms that the person claiming to make the statement is indeed who they say they are. It helps prevent fraud by ensuring that the signer is physically present and willingly signing the document.
      The affidavit itself contains the sworn statement that the copies are true and accurate representations of the originals. By signing this document in front of a notary, you are attesting to the truthfulness of your statement under oath. The notary is not verifying the contents of the affidavit or the authenticity of the copies; they are simply confirming that you are the one making this sworn statement.
      I hope this helps. Please subscribe it would help us a lot

    Just wanted to share that PARENTAL AUTHORIZATION is technically a notarized UNDERTAKING OF ADDRESS. It says child is in "custody" of father and mother names and "residing" at address.... requesting for new OCI.... if you read the parental authorization letter's language it covers the undertaking of address. I think we should write to VFS and get clarification on this aspect. I am not able to logically digest that a notarized undertaking for address fulfill any real world scenario. It seems like a mistake in checklist. They copied this from adult's OCI checklist and forgot to correct it. If you are going to chase VFS, also include question about white vs non-white background photograph confusion. VFS check list says white background while OCI application on Indian govt site says non white. Another thing that confuses people is whether to upload attested copy of document to Indian govt. website or just the digital copy of the original. I think you covered it that (non attested) digital copy of original needs to be uploaded but as VFS or govt does not mention it explicitly it leaves it to confusion and interpretation. What else is confusing or possibility of mistake? I hope it will help you make a bullet proof video next time.

      1. Old checklist asked to send printed checklist. New checklist doesn't mention printed checklist. Use your best judgement here. If I were you, I would send printed checklist since vfs can change rules and checklist anytime.
      2. How different is the old parental authorization format from the new one? If it is very similar, it should not matter. Use your best judgement here. If I were in a hurry, I would send the parental authorization in new format again. Vfs usually has many request for document, when they do have it, they don't accept new docs through email. They ask you to mail it again and it costs extra for new doc, extra for mailing again, hassle and time. Again if I were you, I would send new format form.
      However, remember, logically you are right not to send new checklist and not to send new format authorization. You might be lucky and they accept your package as is. But sometimes people get unlucky too

    • @LearnwithAmine
      @LearnwithAmine  Před měsícem

      If your last name exceeds the 13-character limit on the VFS website, you can follow these steps:
      - Enter a shortened version of your last name (up to 13 characters) when registering on the VFS website.
      - Write a cover letter explaining the situation, stating why you had to enter a shortened name, and mentioning that this is due to a technical limitation on the VFS website.
      - Include this cover letter along with your application and other documents when submitting them to the VFS Application Center.
      - If possible, contact VFS customer support to inform them of the issue and ask for guidance. They may provide additional instructions or solutions.
      This approach has worked for others with similar issues, allowing them to successfully submit their applications and receive their documents. While it's unfortunate that VFS hasn't resolved this technical limitation, following these steps should help you navigate the process without compromising the accuracy of your name on official documents.

    • @LearnwithAmine
      @LearnwithAmine  Před 2 měsíci

      If uploading the document digitally, combine both sides into a single PDF file (maximum size 1000kb). When submitting physical copies, you can either photocopy both sides onto a single sheet of paper or use separate sheets for each side.
      The key is to ensure that all information on your driving license is clearly visible and included in your application. In our application, we included both sides separately to two papers.

      Hello Sam,
      Thank you for your kind words.
      If you search online, you can also see an older checklist for minor, which has the exact sentence of "In case of applicant residing with parents/children/ relatives, a notarized undertaking from them
      with one of the Notarized copies of address proof as indicated above". This sentence asks for notarized undertaking along with notarized address proof.
      You may tell me but the above sentence is from older checklist. You are absolutely right. But I have seen vfs who asked my friends in 2024 for the notarized address proof even when updated checklist did not mention the notarization of address proof. So I have recommended it in the video.
      Some people follow the new checklist and their application gets approved. For few others, vfs asks additional document like notary on address proof. It only delays the process, incurs additional mailing charges etc. You may use your best judgement here based on how quickly your travel requires your child's oci.

      It needs to be notarized on same page. Although it might work, it is not worth the risk. If vfs doesnt agree, they will ask you to send the document through mail. It incurs additional mailing cost and additional time. Try scaling the document to 90%, take printout and get notarization from bank

    My VFS application was put on hold because they requested 'parents' Government Registered Marriage Certificate, which requires a registrar's signature. I followed the instructions in the May and updated June videos, but it seems the requirements for marriage certificates have changed. It appears that marriage certificates issued by religious authorities, like the Waqf board in my case, are no longer accepted. After some research, I found that Muslims and Christians in India often have their marriage certificates issued by religious authorities but need to register the marriage with the local registrar(at the place of marriage). Can anyone/@LearnwithAmine help me if dealing with similar situation or have any knowledge how to proceed?

    • @LearnwithAmine
      @LearnwithAmine  Před měsícem

      Hello Abdul Rehman,
      Sorry that your waqf board marriage certificate is not accepted. In few situations, I have seen for a few applications such certificate was accepted in the past.
      Registering your marriage at an Indian consulate in the US is not an option if the marriage was solemnized in India. Indian consulates only register marriages that took place within their jurisdiction in the US.Given your situation, here are some potential options:
      Obtain a court marriage certificate from India. You may be able to do this through a representative with proper authorization.
      Get a notarized affidavit from both parents stating your marital status, along with supporting documents like joint bank accounts or property papers.
      Contact the nearest Indian consulate or embassy directly to explain your situation and ask if they can provide any alternative solutions or exceptions.
      Consider applying for your child's OCI after you're able to travel to India and register your marriage with civil authorities there.
      It's advisable to reach out to the Indian consulate or VFS Global office handling your application for the most up-to-date guidance on acceptable documentation in your specific case

      @@LearnwithAmine Thanks for the detailed reply. I guess my best option here is to apply Indian visa for my child first & apply for OCI after I get the my marriage registration done when visiting India. FYI, I have friends who have marriage cert accepted(issued by waqf board) by VFS who applied prior to June month. Calling VFS customer care with the above query didn't help me - they just ask you to send the documents again just to receive an answer as to if a document is accepted or not.

      @LearnwithAmine - As for visiting India on eVisa, Is there something to be done if need to stay more than 180 days ? That was the reason I went for OCI initially.

    • @LearnwithAmine
      @LearnwithAmine  Před měsícem

      If you plan to stay longer than 180 days, you will need to register with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of arrival. Failure to do so can result in fines and penalties.
      It is possible to apply for OCI for a minor child within India, The child must be "ordinarily resident" in India, which means staying in India for a continuous period of 6 months. ALSO, there are specific requirements and conditions.
