@@sujitforyou hi I took our daughters thumb print On a white printer paper scanned it into a jpg open it in paint and select rectangular area around the thumb print area to the specification ( pixel value) then cut and save it as jpg. Should be good to upload

I faced the same issue. So. I went ahead and uploaded the current passport for rest of the documents (renunciation, naturalization, ...). It seems there is a bug in their website requiring all documents to be uploaded, even those which are not applicable to the application.
@@thiyagvit I was also facing the same problem. But then I found the option Re-print Submitted application in the Main Menu. I think it should be enough. We can generate the document from there. Also it's written that your application is already complete etc., once you login with that option. I am yet to submit the physical application, but going ahead with this.

Are they giving it till the child's 20th birthday or is it valid only till the passport expiry date? I read in an article that from this year they are changing the rule so that oci will expire on the child's 20th birthday. Can you please confirm?

Hello, I cannot put it in words of how thankful I am, really someone like you is needed to decipher cryptic Indian paper work requirement. Also there are limits on document reupload and viewing, this is really ridiculous
wrong information on the page 3 of the sign.. it might give you trouble... it clearly said that declaration should be signed by the applicant which means thumb impression is required of the minor. in the 2nd part "Application for Minor Child" it starts with I am a parent/legal guardian of .... which means it has to be signed by either one of the parent or both and NOT by the minor thumb impression. and yes we need to Notarize this. Please correct this in the video
1, Forum would ask if you 2 years old married and what is the profession..? 2, then if you notarized the parental authorize form which is same of renunciation and OCI, you need to circle one, it doesn't state to circle anything, there are no instructions. 3 For adults - ` 65 years old, they would ask what is your parents profession, even they were passed away 20 years ago..
Kindly note that while uploading the documents on the OCI website, there is no need to self-attest the document; however, while mailing the documents, the applicant and both parents may self-attest or notarize the document as per the document checklist.

Or a thumbprint is accepted? 2. 2 physical photos and an additional photo should be included? 3. Checklist also talks about the applicant's self-attested passport copy - How can my newborn sign it? Or a thumbprint is accepted? 4. Dumb question - the copies and application print out should be in color or black/white?

Not sure if you were shown the new OCI document checklist. Can I ask a few Qs please? Did you have to notarize Part-B? Did you have to sign the original US passport of your children? How did you self-attest all docs i.e. just your own signature, or both parents or did it also include child's thumb impression. TIA!!
@dynajose87 - since you applied recently, for minor born in US (both parents Indian citizens), do we need to provide notarized copy of “Affidavit in leu of originals”? Or no need? I saw this in the checklist so that’s why wanted to double-check. The only two notarized copy of documents I am aware are parental authorization and Govt application forms.
@@ntiwari1309No need of the “affidavit in lieu of originals”. I haven’t come across that in the checklist. And yes you are correct, the ones you mentioned are the only 2 notarized documents needed. Also our application was minor by birth so not sure if that makes any difference. Hope this helps.

There is a catch in the video. Parental authorization doc should be notarized before uploading so unless you upload you cannot generate the application form. so both notaries cannot be done at the same time.
Very good Explanation !!! @9:49 , the signature of the Applicant should be the Parent as the Parent is declaring. Why should the minor sign as Applicant when the Parent is declaring on behalf of the Minor. It's very confusing the way the form was written.

Our OCI application is processed only after 49 days by the Embassy. It was with the Embassy for 49 days in submitted status before it's processed. Hope this is helpful if anybody looking for real timeline.
Should we send the Checklist also ? In the checklist it is mentioned below. "PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU PRINT THIS DOCUMENT, COMPLETE IT AND INCLUDE IT IN YOUR APPLICATION AS THE COVER PAGE."

Me and my wife received US Citizenship through Naturalization and my Son who still a minor (less than 18years old) received US Citizenship through both of us . My wife and I have Naturalization Certificate , but my son not have a separate Naturalization certificate. We all have US passports and have applied for Indian renunciation certificate (which we will receive shortly) . I see parents copy request in multiple categories, does it mean we have to multiple copy or single copy suffices wherever copy is asked?

Hi Suja - Thanks a lot for the detailed information. Few follow-up questions though:
1. Checklist says "Signature of the applicant" - How can my new born sign it? Or a thumbprint is accepted?
2. 2 physical photos and an additional photo should be included?
3. Checklist also talks about the applicant's self-attested passport copy - How can my newborn sign it? Or a thumbprint is accepted?
4. Dumb question - the copies and application print out should be in color or black/white?
1) minor below 5 - left thumb print
2) 2 copies is enough
3) parents can self attest on behalf of minor
4) BW is fine

Received both my minors OCI today. It came within a month. Fedexed to VFS on 22nd June and OCI arrived on 24th July.

Not sure if you were shown the new OCI document checklist. Can I ask a few Qs please? Did you have to notarize Part-B? Did you have to sign the original US passport of your children? How did you self-attest all docs i.e. just your own signature, or both parents or did it also include child's thumb impression. TIA!!
@dynajose87 - since you applied recently, for minor born in US (both parents Indian citizens), do we need to provide notarized copy of “Affidavit in leu of originals”? Or no need? I saw this in the checklist so that’s why wanted to double-check. The only two notarized copy of documents I am aware are parental authorization and Govt application forms.
@@ntiwari1309 It's required to be notarized. It clearly states in the template and in the doc checklist.
@@ntiwari1309No need of the “affidavit in lieu of originals”. I haven’t come across that in the checklist.
And yes you are correct, the ones you mentioned are the only 2 notarized documents needed.
Also our application was minor by birth so not sure if that makes any difference. Hope this helps.

2. I and husband both signed our minors passport copies.
3. We self attested via mine and husband’s signature.

Hi Suja. Thanks for the Vedio. one questions, My Kid is minor(6 years of Age). Do we need to provide his photo and signature? Confused, in you video could see adult signature or photo, but other video's it was kids one. if you are answer is kids photo and signature, how minor can sign ? it was little confusing. please help here

There is a catch in the video. Parental authorization doc should be notarized before uploading so unless you upload you cannot generate the application form. so both notaries cannot be done at the same time.

@9:49 , the signature of the Applicant should be the Parent as the Parent is declaring. Why should the minor sign as Applicant when the Parent is declaring on behalf of the Minor. It's very confusing the way the form was written.

Our OCI application is processed only after 49 days by the Embassy. It was with the Embassy for 49 days in submitted status before it's processed. Hope this is helpful if anybody looking for real timeline.

Me and my wife received US Citizenship through Naturalization and my Son who still a minor (less than 18years old) received US Citizenship through both of us . My wife and I have Naturalization Certificate , but my son not have a separate Naturalization certificate. We all have US passports and have applied for Indian renunciation certificate (which we will receive shortly) . I have few questions and hoping that you may be able to answer them .
1) In my Son's application what should I select in acquisition method as his Citizenship is through us ?
2) For the documents which I need to upload on Govt of India's site, should those be first self attested and then uploaded?
3) For my Son's application I would need Notarized Parental Authorization and Notarized Sworn Affidavit (as he does not have a separate Naturalization) . Do I have to upload the notarized version of those documents on the Govt of India's website .

Been seeing too many confused statements about it and wanted to double check on it. Your the best person to answer this so thought will ask you. Copy of parents Passports and copy of minor PP need to only be self attested?
