As someone who grew up in Lithgow and still to this day, lives in Lithgow, awesome video!! It's great to not just see an aussie product being so well received but something from my hometown!!
Why is it people will drop $1200 on a laptop or TV, or a set of "big 'ol mud tires!" ( ALL things that in 2 to 5 years will likely be in a landfill !!! ) yet at the same time say a $1200 .22 (or whatever caliber ) firearm is too expensive. I mean, HECK, 100 years from now likely your great grandkids will have a gun that still shoots. Firearms are one of the longest lasting things you can buy next to a hammer or an anvil. It is money well spent!

I own a LA101, but for the sake of argument I'll just add that I use a laptop for 5 hours a day. As technology evolves, it needs updating to keep up. It's more of a necessity for efficiency, but electronics do burn out and fail, often easily and in stupidly spectacular fashions (many a $2 coffee has cost thousands of dollars). Even if you never turn it on, it will still go out of date. Likewise, so will a tyre (or tire as you US folk like to use). Rubber deteriorates without use due to oxidisation. Firearms have changed very little in a long time and don't suffer these lifespan issues. The worst that can happen is they stop manufacturing ammunition, but a little ingenuity in regards to reloading has sen some of the most obscure cartridges still being reloaded.
The issue for many is, will a $200 rifle do the same task for me as a $1200 rifle? For many, it will, so they won't justify the cost. But I still agree for the most part, especially when it comes to the lil .22. I have a 1930's Winchester Model 67 that shoots wonderfully. You won't find many people that can say they've seen a worn out barrel in one.

G'day mate. My first .22 was a Lithgow single shot, built in 1956. Also beautifully made, also outstandingly accurate. The company is best known for making high quality military arms. The town of Lithgow is in the hills about a hundred miles inland from Sydney, and there is still a line of serious gun emplacements along the ridge line east of town, put there in the second world war in case the Japanese sent bombers in from the coast to take out the factory. My late father in law worked there for his entire career. Good to see them still going strong. JayInOz

Mine constantly shoots 1/4 moa at 100 using eley tenex. It’s a one holer. On windy days it spreads out to 3/4 moa. At 150 I shoot about moa on average. These are great rifles.

Picked up my LA101 crossover (left hand) a few days ago and fired its first rounds just a couple of hours ago. Super impressive accuracy from the start and feels like a quality piece of kit. It was that good that the Tikka T3x Super Varmint in 22-250 I picked up at the same time will have to wait another week to be fired. It also felt good to rack it next to my Lithgow no1 mk3 in the safe. Well done Lithgow Arms, and keep etching the country of origin on it!

I have 2 Lithgow MKIII's. One a 1942 original that saw a good service. Belonged to a mate's grandfather who passed and he didn't want it. Just gave it to me. Has everything original except the bayonet was lost. No idea where he served, but I'm sure it was Egyptian sand that came out when I first pulled the cleaning kit out. The other is a 1943 that has been sporterised (aka ruined) but it was also a gift from another mate that left to join the Navy and didn't want to leave it at his parent's place. Told him he's always welcome to take it back, but he hasn't bothered in 19 years. I rarely shoot either, unless someone wants to try out a couple of good ol' Aussie war horses.

I saw this Lithgow LA101 being first reviewed by Ozzie Reviews from Australia about 3 months ago, I was sold on it then, and it's great to see that they are getting closer to being available in Canada ( soon ?)
I realise that these will be on the higher cost side of rimfire rifles, but as you've shown here, 22 Plinkster they are worth it.
Back in 1990, I bought a Norinco JW-15 bolt action rifle. Why? $75 NIB is why. A JW-15 is basically, a really cheap BRNO knock-off with a 24" barrel. Its iron sights were pure junk. I removed the front sight and drifted off the rear sight as well. I mounted a Simmons 4x32mm scope on the receiver. I took it to my local 25 yard indoor range to zero the scope.
Immediately, I was impressed with how accurate this rifle was. It shot groups that were just one oversized hole. That was better than my scoped 10/22 could manage. A week later, I took it to the outdoor range. A typical group with any ammo type was less than an inch at 50 yards. However, with CCI Mini-Mags, the groups were consistently at or within 0.5".
Over the years, the JW-15 saw intermittent use, but sat in my safe unused since 2005. Two weeks ago, I took it from the safe and brought it to the range with my Marlin 795 and Henry H001. The Marlin has a 4/7x30mm scope on it. It's an accurate and reliable rifle. At the range, I stapled nine playing cards to the 50 yard target board. Three each for each rifle. Again, CCI Mini-Mag ammo was used.
After three 5 shot groups were shot, the Henry averaged 1 5/8" using the buckhorn iron sights. My aging eyes didn't help. Those scopes help a lot, and the Marlin shot three groups that averaged about 1 inch, with the best at 0.8". Groups for the JW-15 averaged 0.45", with the best group measured .375" and was just a single ragged hole. Not only was the rifle consistent, the CCI ammo was too. 27 years in between and accuracy was unchanged.
A $75 rifle with a $40 scope. I've shot .22 rifles that were marginally more accurate. However, I haven't seen one that shoots better for under $400, including my brother's CZ 455.

jw-15 shoot sweet alright, i had a 22 stirling as a kid it shot awesome too.still have the norinco, we have a lithgow single shot and very accurate, we learnt to shoot with. seems most guns shoot really well. its more like what cant shoot well. and answer isnt too many at all. its what we can afford. id have a lithgow if i could afford one.

I have a Lithgow .22lr made in late 1940's my father bought it back then. Was a super accurate rifle and still is with probably some 60000 rounds put through it. I took a gold medal at a comp against guys shooting with $2,000 rifles much to their despair because mine looks like a rusty water pipe lol. Love that rifle. And now about to buy the new Lithgow 22. Plinkster, you are an inspiration to many of us .22 shooters, thank you. I am only an enthusiast but I've been shooting this stuff for nearly 60 years. Through some recent purchases I paid $220 for a NIB Savage MKII FV and was able to achieve .48" at 50 yds after breaking it in. After putting on a Nikon rimfire scope and a Boyds TH stock I consistently shoot groups of .33" at 50 yds and .81" at 100 yds with 2 brands of ammo (Eley Match - American Eagle). The gear might be able to do better but that is good enough for me. Total cost for the entire kit < $500.
Finally. A reviewer that picks a windless day to review the accuracy of his test rifle. THANK YOU !

I come from Lithgow born and bred and also own the Lithgow LA101 . From the minute I took it out of the box and onto the range it blew me away. 50met shot after shot went straight into the same hole. 100 meters wasn't that much difference probably 3 1/4 ova an inch ..I was so pleased I bought that rifle. I have owned some of the best 22s over the years Bruno mod2 Anschults and Rugger1022 plus a few others and this has to be the best rifle I 'Ve ever owned.
I have this rifle in 17hmr and it’s like a laser with any ammo. Best rimfire rifles out there👍

Mine did a 3in group at 200m. I was happy with that.
It is ironic that some of the world's best rifles come from a country where they are the hardest (not impossible) to get. I love these Lithgows and the LA102s (CF versions). Engineered and built to a level you just don't get with bigger manufacturers who just pump out rifles en mass. Well worth the cost difference of other competitors. Have not seen a negative review on any Aussie gun yet (Warwick included).
Small piece of trivia. I live 30mins from Lithgow and actually used to live a stone's throw from Lithgow Arms or, as it was called 'Small Arms Factory'. Heard of SAFLOK handcuffs? SAF is an akronym for Small Arms Factory.

When my wife watches This Is Us, I catch up on 22 Plinkster vids that I haven't seen. I am wow'd at every single one!
You sold me. The rifle was hard to find. I found the polymer model. I just sighted it in at 50 yards with federal Automatch target at 4 cents a round. By my third target, I shot a .20" group (5 shots) at 50 yards in the rain (2 mph crosswind) off a bipod with a ziplock bag of rice for a rear bag. I can't wait for my match ammo to show up so I can take it out to 100 yds.
No one is worse at securing a target to a backstop than 22plinkster. Inept at a simple task.
I'm Aussie and shoot this rifle. Easily shoots staples out of my targets at 50m. Over engineered masterpeice.
Aussie here too, bit like with the cz452, you learn fast not to check your sights using the staples lol...either that or you have no problem constantly re setting the targets.

My Anschutz 17hmr will easily shoot half inch groups at 100 yards. And it has a superb trigger. I don't think Anschutz has to worry.

I own one of these guys back here where it was made, Australia and i love it a great little rifle and your getting it for around the same price i get it in the country it was made in.
no doubt it's a great rifle . but
I got a CZ 452 (changed trigger spring) ......used Eley club, tenex & I got same kind grouping 50-100yds. so I believe CZ is waaaay unique at the price range.
If you want to shoot even tighter groups, use a mildot scope and aim with either the +1 mildot above the crosshairs or -1 mildot below the crosshairs. Aim at a 1/4", 0.5", or 3/4 inch sticker dot with the mildot. Shoot a 5 shot group and its tighter because you have a prestine target your aiming at with each shot rather than aiming dead on at the same poi. I have shot a few 100 yard sub inch groups with my .22 ZMRapid MK II Air Rifle.
Unfortunately, I have reached the age where my firearms are more accurate than I am :(

I have my late father's Lithgow Model 12 .22 repeater that was made in the 40's. I've been real close to buying the walnut Ti Cerakoted version of this rifle in .17HMR. The rifle in the review sells for about $1150AUD here. My PWS Summit cost about the same....and would be lucky to shoot that sort of group at 15 yards....
Just got this one for my kid and the same but 308 for me! The stock is a work of art too
I bought the polymer stock version in 22WMR and love it. Not as accurate as the 22LR version, mainly because there is no match ammo for them (at least in the UK) but I use it exclusively for hunting with expanding ammunition. Getting 1" at 100 yards with 5 shots, but it opens up significantly at 150 yards (about 3").
My CZ 452 in 17HMR by comparison shoots 1/2 at 100 yards and just over 1" at 150 (we have much more ammo choice in 17HMR over here).
BTW, CZ455/457/512 mags fit these rifles if you want a 10 shot version.
we use this for shooting rabbits most weekend for the last 2 years now and prob put throught 10000 rounds all sub its never really been cleaned and still shooting like your grouping

What no Eley Tenex or Lapua Midas? At least the FGMM is made by RWS for Federal. It is the same as RWS R50. Yep, you can do better once the barrel seasons to the ammo. I always clean between different ammo and give it 10 shots to season before going for score. Probably got sweat in your eye along with mirage and wind. After 20 rounds in a string, fatigue can set in and you get sloppy. . 1/8" per 1 mph wind at 50 yards close to 3/8" at 100 yards per mph of wind. Concrete bench would maybe help, you had some wobble. Flat front rest. The V notch front rest wasn't consistent. Still , you aren't a Bench Rest competitor with a $1k rest and a $3k rifle and a NightForce BR scope. Got to be realistic. This is phenomenal practical accuracy you are getting out of reasonably priced CCI Green Tag ammo and a top shelf rifle.
Voere 22lr 1967 model 21 inch barrel gives a quarter inch group at 50 yards and inch group at 100 yards.... and I am still very satisfied with an oldie.....
Just FYI, Lithgow now guarantee sub moa out of every one of their rifles.

You sold me on the Ruger American rimfire 22LR a year or so ago, went out and bought one, its the most accurate rim fire i got, wish i could go about and buy this one but love the Ruger think i will stay with Ruger for a while now, thanks for the videos I sure your busy, keep the videos coming

I bought it because I trust your reviews and appreciate your videos. I think the Lithgow didn’t get a fair comparison because you used Gold Medal Match and CCI Green Tag. I would love to see apples to apples.
Great to see Lithgow getting some big international exposure! If they can break into the US market then a lot of awesome products will start to roll out from them. Im sure $1200 USD wont be the final price though, here in Australia, they're around $800 to $1000 AUD depending on the configuration, which is only a little more expensive than CZ's here

Well, our ammo is expensive as shit and we aren't allowed suppressors or semi autos, but my Remington 700's were $1000 and $1250, the latter came with quality steel Leopold bases and rings. Lithgow used to make 22lr years ago for slazenger model 12A used leftover 303 barrel blanks in production
If you notice that when you squeeze the trigger with the end of the finger your finger pulls slightly to the right. This affects your group size. I was taught on the Army Shooting team to squeeze the trigger with your middle bone of the finger. This keeps all the bones in your finger, hand and arm in the same line. You will find that this will help you shoot smaller groups. This is one of the reasons the shooting team is a world class team.

Love my LA101 in .17HMR fitted with a Leupold VX-R 3-9x40. Got a few 3/4MOA groups with Hornady 17gr V-MAX. I'm sure it'd be capable of close to 1/2MOA with a higher powered optic.

The bolt action.22 I got is 75 years old and was sold for 25$ new and it still works and can hit a tin can at 150 yards easy
The Lithgow is manufactured in the same factory as the Aus - Steyr military arms the factory has been making firearms for over one hundred years I own a Lithgow 1A approx 70 years old handed down from my Grandfather and still shoots clover leaf- the Lithgow LA101 has all match grade components - I also own Marlins, Remingtons, from my American cousins -Proud to be an Aussie
Lithgow Arms is the Government arsenal for the Australian Defence Force, In the past few years Government contracts have dried up so they decided to venture into the commercial market and have introduced the Lithgow Crosover range of sporting rifles which have been well recieved by gun owners.
When in the cadet corps in Sydney, (early 70s) we would always try and get a Lithgow made Lee Enfield 303 for range work. It would out shoot everything.
It should be noted that Lithgow make these on the same machines, with the same materials and to the same tolerances as they make our Steyr F90 military assault rifles. It was made to be a super tough hunting rifle (the glass fibre reinforced polymer stock and factory Cerakote is a strong as they come). It just happens to shoot with target accuracy and cycle super smooth. We also pay just a little over $AU800 ($US600) for one, which is the same as we pay for the cheaper CZ's.
mate Steyr is the original gun company non of the AUGs we ever serviced were austrian the F88A1 was made here and so was the F88A2 we just had the licence the new Ef88/F90 is it own proprietary weapons made by lithgow/thales nothing to do with steyr. it would be like calling the canadianC7/C8 a colt m4 its notthe same basically
A lot of Aussies like me have lithgow 22s. Mine was my grandfathers and is probably 70 years older or more. It is super accurate and my grandfather being ex ww2 and a farmer could shoot the eye out of quails with this rifle, and did to eat after the war. I recently put 500 rounds through it shooting pests. Lithgow used to make good firearms. If these new ones are as good, they would have to be near the top of the tree for 22s.

Small Arms factory produced the SMLE No.3, the FN L1A! (Inch), F1 9mm SMG, the F88 (Steyr AUG) and F90 local PI AUG for the Australian military. They also made .22 LR rifles for the civilian market from 1945. Lithgow is a Tier 1 military grade firearms company.

Yes I think technically a Automatic rifle because the barrel is fixed. Certainly, a fun gun to shoot and used by non-infantry units in lieu of the Bren LMG. In the Army Res as an Assault Trooper in an Armd Cav unit I carried and shot it a lot before I joined the Regular Army.
Lithgow is literally a military arms manufacturer, I think this is the first civi rifle they've made in almost 50 years.

Prior to the release of the LA 101 in 2014 . Lithgow SA hadn't released a firearm to the civilian market in 40 years. Lithgow SA has been manufacturing firearms for over 100 years though the original Lithgow factory is now shut down but has a museum there.
That Fed gold medal, even the low cost version is great ammo. Impressive with the target blowing. I have a 16" CZ that will do 3/8" at 50 when I am on my game.

@Goodo - My CZ mags, both 5 and 10 shot, work perfectly. I even have a couple of steel 15 shot mags that work fine, except the first round if you're too quick cycling it.
I love my New Lithgow LA101 Crossover .22. It's the best .22 that i have ever owned. straight off the shelf just kept putting them in the same hole at 50met..blew me away and it will last me a Lifetime. Next will be the 223 cal and then the 308...absolutely out Fkn standing boys. happy shooting guys..
I've shot federal ultra match through a cz 455 precision trainer, Bergara BXR, Kidd 22, a 457 Varmint and a Tactical Solutions X ring, and can NEVER get groups like that, I usually get an inch at 50 yards at best. the blew me away.

Looks like a really nice rifle. It seems to be exceptionally well made with nice features - love the 60 degree bolt throw and the trigger looks amazing. I would love to add one to my collection :)
Having said that, I have two CZ455's (an Elite and an Ultramatch) both of which (when I do my part) will shoot sub-MOA with Norma Match ammo ... and that's with stock barrels. You could buy a CZ455, add a Shilen barrel and a YoDave trigger and still be under $1000 - and be able to shoot flies at 100 yards.
And yet ... I would still like to have a Lithgow :) If it was in the $800-900 range, it would be a lot harder to resist :)
822 Plinkster I love the fact that you reviewing this rifle but a lot of us can get very similar groups at 50 yards with rifles that are less than a third of the price of a Savage and a Ruger 10/22 that I built myself that I can get the same group at 50 yards maybe not the same but a little bit better
Man I reckon legacy sports are making quite a mark up on these. Street price in Australia is A$850 = US$640. Even with shipping they should be cheaper than what they are asking.

For anyone complaining about the $1200 USD price tag, when you consider the LA101 retails for $1000 - $1100 AUD, it's not that bad. Lithgow has primarily been a military arms builder and these are their first steps into the Civilian market.
they released some firearms after WW2 mad from old 303 barrels but discontinued years after.

I have a CZ 452 varmint I fire Lapua 40 gr thru it wolf match extra shoots 2nd best thru it both shoot tighter groups than this rifle/ammo combination this rifle would probably have tighter groups also with better ammo ....like you said you need to fire a few thru it before you go for groups ...during benchrest matches I shoot 5 shots in the dirt before I shoot a target
I like your videos, good shooting! I have an OLD Sears Ranger model 36 that I got from my dad, I think it was made in 1945? may be older. My dad shot competitions with it and won many of them. I can hit anything I can see with the Iron sites it came with. Nail driver is how I have described it. He had an scope on it at one time, but I never shot it with the scope. Now that my eyes are less the perfect at age 61, I am thinking of putting the scope back on it, I need to talk to him I think he has the one he used on it originally.

my 513 t Remington can shoot 1 hole groups at 50 and 100 yards.with American eagle ammo 5 buck a box my buddy's cz will do the same,both a lot cheaper the keystones is a shooter also.

Bought an LA 101 .22 LR for my daughter and an LA 101 .22 magnum for myself. Most accurate rifle I have owned ! And they are Australian made Mate !

Good to see yours actually works! My LA101 is pretty damn accurate even with bulk ammo. However, I can't get through a single mag without at least one jam. The cerakote doesn't do too well either as mine is rusting even though I keep it clean.. my blued guns don't rust like this thing has. I'll be replacing it with a CZ I reckon.

damn fine shooting bud and a very nice rifle too! I've had a very nice Remington 512 Sportmaster that I put an athlon talos scope on that will come close to this. I've had this since my 8th birthday and I'm now 65 it looks almost new. To my surprise this past weekend I had a one inch 5 shot group at 100 yds with Eley practice(yellow box). Pretty incredible for a $20.00 rifle( bought from a friend with a case!) with a $140.00 scope. I see you've found a trigger hand position exactly like I use, it seems to make a difference in consistency.
All he says is true. I own one and i use it for RF bench rest and ona windy range can do nearly as good as he does here. Thanks for a good review.
