- Is this THE best HMR available now?
Thats the question I asked a bunch of HMR users. “Whats the best HMR on the market today?”
Lithgow’s name was mentioned numerous times. I have to confess I’d never even heard the name before.
So like so many of us do these days I took to the internet to do a little digging. Oh and of course CZcams. Certainly looked the part, and the reviews of build quality and accuracy just had to be tested. Now don’t get me wrong, this was only its first test. Iv’e yet to use this in the field. But it made a great first impression.
Hopefully I’ll bring you some footage of this rifle in action in the coming months.

Lithgow is actually a town in New South Wales situated 142km north west of Sydney. The town was named after William Lithgow who was the first Auditor General of NSW. The Lithgow Small Arms factory opened on 8 June 1912, the factory initially manufactured SMLE III rifles (and bayonets thereof) for the Australian military during World War I. During World War II, production expanded to include Vickers machine guns, Bren guns and, postwar, branched out into sporting goods (including civilian firearms and golf clubs), tools, sewing machines, (from the mid-1950s) the F1 submachine gun, L1A1 SLR, KAL1 general purpose infantry rifle prototypes and similar products.
The factory was known to produce their single shot rimfire models 1A and 1B as well as their Model 12 repeater under the Slazenger brand during the 1960s.
I bought 2 Lithgows about 8 months ago ! A .22LR for my daughter in polymer and a .22 WMR in Laminate for myself ! Nice smooth action , very accurate and about to look at buying a .17 HMR probably in the walnut ! Love these rifles and highly recommend them !
I continue to be impressed by the apparent quality of Australian firearms. Your country contributes a great deal to the quality of life in my country (USA) these days. I started to recognize these things when Chevrolet went back and brought the Camaro back into production . I was told it was a model of a car GM had put into production in your country. You guys have a lot going on in the technology fields these days. Thanks for your help.
DAVE WAYNE you do know I’m British don’t you?
Thank you for the great review Robin, as a direct result of this video, I have gone out and bought the 22 magnum version of this rifle and I absoulty love it.
So glad you have done a review on this as I'm having problem sighting in my CZ 17hmr. Keep up the good videos
Great review mate and good shooting with the breeze too....love the HMR's and Aussie made so you'll be impressed out in the field with it 👍🇦🇺
Nice review thank you very much. I have just ordered the Lithgow .22lr😁 Btw ...Lithgow is pronounced Lith..go. 👍🇦🇺
Nice and easy setup
That looks to be a lovely bit of kit, cracking video as always 👍
Great review Robin, looks a really nice rifle , thank you for sharing, look forward to the next video, Cheers
Casper Boo thanks for stopping by and commenting again it’s much appreciated. All the best. Next video should be a good one. I’ll start editing this weekend ready for release middle of next week.
Your welcome Robin, that sounds great, l.oking forward to it, thank you, Cheers
Robin, just came across your vid while looking for reviews on .17hmr. I'm an Aussie and use a Lithgow .243 and love it. Very similar, just a bigger brother. Looks like I'll be going down the path of another Lithgow but in .17hmr this time. Good review.
Andrew S thanks for tuning in Andy. All the best with it.
Robin i really like this GUN and all Its applications! Good shooting! Sighting in on any rifle is always important!👍
Great video as usual Robin, beautiful rifle, the .17hmr will do that accuracy all day at 100yds, my grey crows hate it, I have noticed the rounds have doubled in price!
Lovely looking gun robin I reckon you will have a lot of fun with that. Will look forward to seeing it's first trip out
Nice rifle and great shooting.
Now that, is accurate shooting Robin.
I wish my Lithgow rifle would arrive,..geez it's been on order for more than a month now! Don't you love it when a distributor advertises that he has stock, when obviously somebody's playing around with the truth!!
It's going to be interesting to see this rifle in action.
If you get a lead sled you can lock it in and shoot at your cardboard target, then move the cross hairs to the impact and that should have you zeroed in. I always take a third shot at center mast of my target to double check my zero. Hello from an American cousin :)
Nice shooting rob , very smooth action for a new rifle mate.
David Brennan indeed it is. It’s a very good quality rifle from what I can tell in the short time I’ve used it. Still not been out with it yet though!
Hi Robin foxer again ,I didn’t finish that last email properly.I meant to say it’s great to have a you tube great giving an Aussie gun a big wrap . Had you used a bench and sand bag you would have been super impressed. Cheers Dean
Dean Morriss cheers dean. I’ll try a rest and sand bag next time before heading out. Thanks for watching.
Hi Robin Foxer I’m from Australia and I know how good Lithgow rifles shoot . If you had a bench rest plus a sandbag for the butt ,you probably would have done even better.Still great to sgreat credentials
Dean Morriss thanks for watching. I think I’ll try it with my bench rest next time. Thanks for watching.
Nice bit of kit 🧐 👍👍 great review
Sounds good with the moderator i wish we could have them in Australia
DITTO!!!
Rifling 6 grooves 1 : 9” (228 mm) right hand twist
Great looking gun, this is for sure a top shelf rifle. CZ455 cannot be looked over though - I have the thumbhole varmint edition. The trigger is a crisp 2lb out the box, no creep, and can shoot under an inch at 100 yards with the right ammo. Definitely worth considering for anyone looking to get a 17HMR
Varmint Journal I almost bought one. What swung it for me was the coating on the barrel and action along with the fact the bolt only comes half way up. The CZ was always reaping my thumb between the bolt and scope.
Saw your video and I'm impressed with the rifle will have to get one! I would like some more information on the scope I want one like that.
That, is a beautiful rifle! The shooting wasn't too bad either! 👍👍
good reveiw mate, be knocking them over with that
Nice rifle! Good shooting!
Cheers mate.
Good video Robin👍
260rips thanks Mark 👍
Nice shooting thanks for sharing
Nice bit of kit.
Robin - what is the name of the scope mounts that are screwed to you rifle..? Where can I get them..?
I zero'd my tikka T1 17hmr to 100 yards and then practice out tp 150 . made myself a little gong target to shoot :-)
Thanks for sharing your video,do you need to put locktight on the scope rings in case of scope creep. Is that scope a Hawke, you cardboard box looks like Mac computer box.
Cheers Mate!
Would have liked to see a group
laser rangefinder mate that way you know exactly what you are zeroed at.
just wind the cross hairs from the aiming mark to the bullet hole you would have done that in two shots. like your channel always entertaining
pronounced.......LITHGO
unclespite I get it NOW!! Lol. Been told many times. I’ll be sure to get it right in videos in future.
All good mate. I just wish we could fit modifiers. Illegal to own, no wonder people have hearing problems.
unclespite it’s crazy really when you think how much livestock you guys often shoot around too!
Lol your getting told ..... i have the same rifel in .22 and .223 also the hmr all with moderators on them and im in Australia . But i shoot for a living
Pronounced......hornadee....please
Lith Go mate. Lith Go.
Finns make awesome suppressors and that one from Ouluntyostokeskus is awesome. You should also look Ase Utra DUAL and ECO, they are up there at 32-35dB but weigh half because theyre made of Aluminum.
I have had both and while Oulutyostokeskus makes them last everything, Ase Utra adds almost no weight to the barrel end.
little critters don't stand a chance, glad i'm state side LOL
Shoot it a 100 metres at least with a 5 shot group.
Pardon me, but I think you're missing something in your testing the accuracy of this rifle. From what I've seen, all you've done was sight in the scope. Not a very convincing rendition to show this is an accurate shooter. Seems the mag loads easily and smoothly with positive seating feedback.
Btw… it’s pronounced “Lith…go”… i know adding sneaky letters to a word is confusing. ;)
Hi mate not sure if any one has let ya know your CZ mags will fit 🇦🇺👍😃👍
Leo Ceh indeed they have thanks. I’ve ordered the ten shot one for when we go rabbit shooting. Thanks though. All the very best.
ive had the .22 lithgow for three years now i cant imagine a more accurate gun 20-25 mm at 100 m i probably should not watch this video bought the .22 after ozziereviews one lol the .22 lr does stove pipe a bit 1 in 30 maybe and the thing is NOT LITE!! but from a bench or hide they are great i guess that's what you sacrifice for the accuracy , also since you didn't mention it its called a crossover as its a sporting stock with a semi target barrel
Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for posting. Btw it is pronounced Lith Go rather than Lith - Gow (The W doesn't get pronounced). Don't ask me why though. I grew up here but Ozzies and naming conventions can be a little funny at times.
Derek Dammers ha ha it’s too late now I’ve said it wrong. I’ll make sure I correct it when I talk about it in up and coming productions. Thanks for watching.
Lithgow is a town a couple of hours drive outside of Sydney. The Arms factory there has been producing military rifles back to World War 1. When they started designing a new range they canvassed a lot of people to find out what most people wanted in this type of rifle. I think the use of the Brno/CZ magazine was genius as that brand also has a long history here in Australia.
I got an older Marlin 917 bull barrel that shoots under an inch and better at 100 yds, for $300.00 it will be hard to beat!!
you are Funny
When u sighted in what zoom are you using? IV been told to zoom all the way in but it doesn't feel right
Hunter1984 B I normally do it at almost full mag. Or what ever mag I’ll be using when taking the shot.
@@TeamFoxer ok brilliant im heading out shortly to try and sight the 17hmr in using the same rounds because it doesn't like the CCI I used last time
Where do u get that cap from
Shooting show in February in Birmingham.
What do you pack the boxes with Robin?
Gareth Brown nothing mate. Behind the area is a big dense wood and a huge gravel pile you can’t see. That’s why I always use the space to test the zero on my guns.
How was the group?
They went out to eat and was good.
What was the reason for getting rid of the Savage Robin?
Kyle Lodge it was the second to last of my rifles that wasn’t brand new. Just the Ruger 10/22 left and that’s it. They’ll all have been changed. Trouble is that Ruger is absolutely brilliant.
@@TeamFoxer Fair do's. I was just curious to see if you had had a problem with your Savage. I have a 93R17 and it's a cracking little rifle, only thing I'm not overly keen on is the magazine. Other than that its brilliant, ridiculously accurate 👍
Kyle Lodge no I loved it. It was a brilliant rifle.
Lithgow is very good but Tikka just cannot be second! We shall see.
Lithgow have a smoother and stronger action to the tikkas. Shoot larger calibres and you'll notice the difference
Do you use a hero 5 or 6
Price????
Do you still use and like this rifle? Any issues?
Indeed I do. It’ll be featuring in a video that’ll be out this week albeit a short appearance.
In a few weeks time I’m planning a rabbit shooting video using it with the ATN scope on it. No issues what so ever so far.
@@TeamFoxer cheers for the reply mate, looking forward to seeing more of it.
Where Can I get one for the 17 WSM
unfortunately they don't do 17 WSM yet. Maybe they are are waiting to see how popular it gets?
Aren't you meant to have all ammunition kept at least 100 feet away from any firearm in Australia? lol
MikePlaysIt I’ve no idea. I’m in the 🇬🇧 UK. The rifle was made there.
you must be a wank, I mean yank because no intelligent country uses feet anymore. And don't you yanks have to stay 100 kilometres from buildings because you tend to fly into them?
Only world leading Country's use The Imperial System Not Metric.
Get yourself a 17 WSM, much better.
Not a safe back stop! Anyone can walk round the corner with out you seeing them. Plus bullets bouncing off the floor aint to save either..
Tristy1987 oh yeah sorry I forgot you where there!
So this farm is in the middle of knowhere. I’ve been sighting rifles here for years because-
1) there is a dense wood with no public access behind it as it leads to the marsh.
The ground also rises behind where I put my targets but you can’t see that on film.
2) if there where to be any bullets bouncing off the roadway and the angle there shot at they still wouldn’t hit anything (providing they make it past the dense wooded area) other than the foreshore of which again has no public accesses.
I’m the one pulling the trigger. I’m very experienced and would never put anyone at risk. There is 0 chance anyone would walk round the corner as, round the corner is a chuffing great big drain they would have to cross first.
Pronounced Lith-go
Yes I soon learned that father this video went out.
its pronounced Liffgo if your an aussie ;)
Is that a liffgo, sgt major?
Is that 1f or 2?
No free.
The pommy,s would remember sgt major and gunner smith from "It aint half hot mum" bbc tv 1970,s
Pronounced Lithgo dont sound the w
I know this now. Didn’t at the time. 😬🦊👍🏼
Pronounced Lith-go not Lith-gow
Tomato tomarto
Lith ‘go’ you silly English person
We Aussies use a unique form of pronunciation which can only be mastered after booing Pommy cricketers for the temerity of beating in one form of the game or another!!
Lithgow is LITHGO !!!!! Get it right!
Maybe it should have been spelt correctly then. Then again, what would one expect from a nation derived from the cast off criminals of this great nation lol.
I know now don’t I! It’s not like I can go back and re-shoot the film.
Anyways, it’s a good job you sometimes win at cricket and rugby. I say sometimes, as for a nation of over 25million your Olympic tally is pretty pathetic so far.
Plus you make shit beer. So 🤫
@@TeamFoxer I only take offence at the ‘beer’ comment
We actually make some awesome beers but only export the ones we wouldn’t wash our pet Wallaby’s with
Hence …..
@@robtaylor893 well that’s fair I guess.
Cz is better fk lithgo expensive bs
