All is Bruford fans miss him & his playing. There was so much magic there. I guess you get to a certain age and think : “My contributions have been made. Time to give some young kid the stage.”
he is my favourite drummer of all time and i am a bloody guitarist! The man is just a genius and he makes it look so EFFORTLESSLY like he is just sitting having a cuppa and talking to people
I can totally relate to the audience member yelling "Thank You!!!" at the ending of In the Dead of Night. It's one thing to see and hear one of your favorite musicians playing one of your favorite songs but, it's another thing to hear them play it not only differently but to add to it in a way that's totally unexpected and even more rich than the recording. Such was the flair Bruford added to the ending.
Neil was great but he could not swing on his best day like Bill could swing. Neil was the best at what he did but he fell apart when it came to swing and Jazz but Bruford swung hard!
Notice how his elbows never leave his side and all lateral movement is directed from wrists. You can play forever without getting tired because your energy is only spent from elbows down. I'm going to try to set up without ride toms and keep all drums on the same level to see if this has an affect on movement efficiency.
Yes, and Buford is one of his idols “Peart praised the British musician, saying: “Bill Bruford is one of my favorite drummers. I admire him for a whole variety of reasons. And I like the stuff he plays, and the way he plays it. I like the music he plays within all the bands he’s been in.”
Agree. His jazz touch is authentic. There are no other rock drummers who have such a feel. Baker, Palmer and Mitch Mitchell came close but Bill's tight swing is very modern like Tony Williams. None of them had that. Incredible musician.
Bill's YES drumming will never cease to exists when he plays it will always be there and the reason He is such a unique drummer in my opinion, He went to King Crimson and a successful solo career but his YES inclination and sharp snare will always be there! Bless You Bill forever my favorite amazing drummer!
Such a highly-rated drummer, yet still severely underrated regardless! I can't say he's my all-time favorite drummer, 'cause he's SO MUCH MORE than merely a "drummer"; he's the musicians' musician and my all-time favorite of THAT kind!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Those 2 UK albums are still played very heavily in my vehicle. Lol. Thanks for posting and a huge thanks to Mr Brufford for that amazing music that he had given to us…. Enjoy your well deserved retirement.
Smart man, brilliant drummer and percussionist. Always retire when you’re at the top of your game. Like ELP, I used to wonder what a “wakeman, squire, bruford” three piece band would sound like.
ADORO BRUFORD, É DE UMA CRIATIVIDADE E VERSATILIDADE FORA DO COMUM, NO CRIMSON SÓ DAVA ELE. VIRTUOSO DEMAIS, BATERA DELE É SUPER DIFERENTE, BATE FORA DO TEMPO. DOIDEIRA DEMAIS. FODAÇO.
I am a big fan from way back. For anyone who is not familiar with this drum part, I highly recommend listening you Yes’ “Starship Trooper,” especially in the “speak to me of summer” sections. The poly-rhythmic precision is artistic perfection and will blow your mind. Nobody else has ever played like that.
[“Starship Trooper,” especially in the “speak to me of summer” sections.] Funny you should mention that section. I saw Yes in the round (long ago) and it must have been just as Alan White replaced Bruford. I knew many of the parts, and I noticed that White was just basically keeping time through that section; not playing Bruford's part at all. Also, Howe was giving White hand signals for stops and accents, so White must not have had much time to prepare at all. Nothing against White, he sounds better now, it's just that there was certainly a simpler "feel" to Yes without Bruford's input.
Merci beaucoup! ...:)...Great drummer!..Perfect pocket drummer for the bands he played in. His best work (most intense) was with U.K .. His work in Yes and Crimso, showed him as one of the best pocket players in the business...
I still can’t play half that uk stuff , it’s so complex, I had better luck with the Bozzio years but Bills timing/placement on the snare work just boggles my mind.
I'm pretty sure it's for the showmanship, people can see his foot working. He's said how he takes showmanship into account, like putting cymbals way up in the air, so people can see big movements and what he's hitting. It's amazing how he re-imagined and innovated modern drumming and drumset MULTIPLE times.
@@clayfoster8234 I listened to a recent interview with Bruford on "Breakfast with Vinnie" podcast, and Bill talked exactly about wanting to entertain the audience with his music and his playing, and how entertainment is considered "low art" and a dirty word by the people of "serious high art"... Good stuff, Bill is the best.
Why doesn't Tama market that configuration? The man personally engineered it to deliver, with, what I'm guessing was ease for him, the absolute most musicality . Perhaps "personally engineered" is a tad grandiloquent . Ergonomically arranged, rather.
I think he retired at the right time.... 2010 was getting toward near the end of classic rock... WHICH IS DEAD BY THE WAY .... But living on through product placement like RHINO and etc ... The new stuff doesn't have a chance for anything liked by idiots .... Plus the competition that came and went is overwhelming amazing .... There no point discussing it .
...always a masterful, artful drummer....the best.Period.

Can hardly believe he's been retired from playing for 13 years now. I miss him so much.
We All Do.
Absolutely...the best of the rest
A One Of A Kind drummer. For me the best ever.

The more i look at it, the more I like it. I do think it’s good.
Bill has always been my favourite drummer. His drumming is in a class of its own. Outstanding and pioneering.

I paid attention to his level of effort because I had recently read a quote from him saying that playing drums isn't tiring.
I was saddened to hear of his retirement from drumming. One of the greatest ever.....
Geñio Bill..con una sincopa.y técnica única..maestro de maestros!!!!❤
My all time favorite drummer among so many incredible ones ! Bill has this special feel to be very accurate and anticipating time !

Bruford is no Tony Williams, not even close.
Love his UK stuff….. from the first lap… saw them live .. late 70’s… killer show

He's never on any stupid top 10 drummers lists! Should be right up there with Bonham and Baker and whatnot.
The Stephen Hawking of drums?
Billy Cobham
Bill Bruford is in a class all his own!!
Have you seen Neil Peart, Live in Frankfurt?
@@thetreehugger I have seen Neil Peart several times. respectfully, he is no Bill Bruford.
@@thetreehugger Neil Peart saw Yes with Bruford when he was a kid, said it blew his mind and he has cited Bill as a major inspiration.
Maestro!
One of the best 👌
if not the best
colaiuta, cobham, bruford and paice...my all time drum idols
Once a monster always a monster

Sad he had to retire, still one of the greatest
Excellent, magnifique, super 👌...
Un groove et un feeling d'enfer !
I have a drum stick signed by bruford. 1986 in LA.

One could only imagine. WOW!!! It would be great.
Accept no equals. Bil Bruford.
Bruford my drummer all Life
Thank you for uploading this.
The best feel drummer i have heard for sure , some of us are born to it others have to work very hard but you can `always` tell !
Grande Bill.
Saludos desde ciudad de Canelones, Uruguay.
Thanks for posting this!
My favorite drummer.
I love this man so much
Percussionist Extraordinaire.
Have you seen Neil Peart?
Always so refreshing to listen to live drums. So sick of drum machines😣
Except for Jojo Mayer. He's an excellent drum machine. 😉
Absolute Icon!
No wonder Danny Carey holds him in such high regard

Bravo Bill Bravo!
The magician!
How fascinating at the end of his career he played a very economic open handed style that is ahead of most of the things we see today
A very good solo indeed.. With other business edited in there.. Excellence!!
He’s like an algorithm for how you want the drums to be played
I hear so much of his influence in Danny Carey . Bill is one of my favorites, absolutely a legend.
Danny is Great but He sounds like a High school drummer next to Bill.
Quite the character and my favorite by far. Take a listen to him with the band Gong, good stuff
That songs almost 30 years old
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Peart / Brufford / Collins 👍
アメイジング!元はジャズがルーツのブラッフォードさんですが
凄まじいドラムソロは、本気でJAZZのドラミングです!

Bruford is so, pedestrian. I prefer to call him Bruf-ford... Sort of has that ring to it. Love him!
Great Flam Ideas
There's only two drummers , the Best of the Best , one os The king - Bill Bruford .
And other drummer are Terry Bozzio.
The great drummer also played with YES
i love the b'boom solo rendition
