Total 4 limb independence. That's incredibly hard to perfect. Dennis is a machine.

The first time I saw him was at the Jazztage with John Scofield and I will never forget this.

Dennis' wrist control has always looked so damn solid. The absolute undisputed king of all funk drumming.

I think it has to do with him practicing over surfaces with no rebound such as pillows. He has recommended that many times over the years

@@azopote9253and he studied all the greats and mastered their style or came close. Buddy, Billy, Tony, Bigfoot from P Funk, Diamond from Ohio Players you hear in his playing from the 70’s on.

Did you hear what he said about El a few months ago? When he asked about who are the guys he thinks are pushing the limits and really impressing him he said El. He didn’t mention anyone else but I know he loves Adam Deitch, Ronald Bruner and Thomas Pridgen. Dennis is not impressed with most of the Modern Drummers, the sport drummers busting Gospel Chops. Obviously there are some of those guys that are amazing and all of them are influenced by him but too many go to far and forget the music.

He’s one of the all time best students of drums in history. I haven’t watched a lot of old Dennis the past 20 years or so. I’ve watched a few older things here and there and all of the current stuff and I grew up in the early 90’s in High School watching his VHS instructional videos so I know he’s one of the greatest players of all time, but after meeting him last week and talking and realizing how humble and kind he is with no ego at all and now watching solos like this almost brings a tear to my eye. Mind bending and mind altering feel and technique! And the power in his singles is astonishing.

Yeah he’s great, but damn- those drums sound like crap. Oat meal boxes. Kills musicality of the magnificent chops he presents. Thud thud thud. Ugh. Too bad, but yep- he’s one of the best.

I think it’s because of the rerecording quality, usually Dennis’s pearl sounds great. You can feel it here

A few years ago I saw o. social media who was considered the greatest drummer of all time. The so called experts say it was Jon Bonham and Mr.Chambers way down the list. I would like to get other opinions.
