During the final months of the One Year War, a vital base in the hands of the Principality of Zeon remains hidden from the Earth Federation forces. Its existence might very well determine victory for Zeon ground troops, as well as destruction for Federation General Headquarters. During the guerilla operations of the Southeast Asian theater, these two forces would clash in a deadly battle often forgotten in light of the campaigns in space.

It is a breath of fresh air to see an attempt in breaking down the battles that happened during the one year war, I want to see more of this. Perhaps the final battles of the war such as Solomon and A Baoa Qu?

I like how you said Shiro was KIA because the Federation forces never found his body. Even though Michel and Kiki saw Shiro later on, after the war, missing a leg after the explosion of the Ez-8. The Federation never knew Shiro survived and thus, like you said, his legacy as the troubled ace pilot lived on.
Glad you appreciate that! Yeah, I try to lace these battle records with little bits of untruths to make the 'historical record' part feel more authentic lol. I can imagine some historian poring through the account and being confused as to why a Gm sniper was shooting at a fellow Federation mobile suit, so they reasoned that it must've been a mistake in the witness account or something.
There is one small misconception I feel I must bring up though. It was not really the development of their own Mobile Suits that allowed the federation to turn the tide. Yes they helped, but they had very few. More it seems to have been that the Federation finally got its act together after recovering from Operation British as well as mismanagement on the part of Zeon.
A big reason for this sudden turn is that Mobile Suits are made for space combat, taking advantage of their speed and agility. And on land they suddenly had to fight against gravity and as such lost their key advantage making them easy targets for tanks and fighters.
You can really see this during the battle of Odessa where the Federation only fielded about 30 MS whereas Zeon had over a thousand. The rest of the federation forces were made up of tanks, fighters and bombers with the MS more in a support role. Zeon's defeat here also was what ultimately turned the tide of the war against them as they lost key aces and their foothold on Earth. And once the war moved once again into space, Zeon was so ill prepared and short on skilled manpower that the battle hardened Federation forces could deal with them easily despite having fewer MS.
Very good point. UC does a decent job of showing us how conventional vehicles and anti tank weapons can make life hell for a MS. While overall we tend to get more scenes of mobile suits wrecking everything, there were scenes in Igloo and 8th MS Team that showed them being humbled by rockets, tanks, and artillery
@@yamamotomechbattles Indeed, while most of what we see in the show are the MS, supplementary materials make it clear that most of the battles were fought and won by tanks.
Three Things:
1. There is almost no consistency across Universal Century when it comes to ranks, both space force (navy) and ground force (army). The same goes for several names across the translations. I went with what was most sensible. It seems as if there were a lot of space force personnel having to fight on the ground at the time anyway. Packard was a colonel in my memory, but is a captain (navy, so same paygrade) here. Ginias is referred to as a commandant in recent translation. Kellarny is often called Kellerne or Kellany...etc.
2. The OSTs used had minor copyright claims, all of which are allowed for use on CZcams. In the future, I might have to chill on using Gundam OSTs, or at least use older tracks. You might even hear music from other franchises or timelines being used. I didn't want to change the music for this one because I think picking the right track for each part is a huge deal for what I want to create.
3. I made a grave error during the video. The 01st MS Team is not depicted as having taken part in the final operation. However, we know they did because there is SPLIT SECOND shot of an RX-79G getting lasered in which you can see the TOP TENTH of its "01" marking on the shield. Such an obvious oversight that I only picked it up in editing! Most of my errors are intentional, this one wasn't 😂

I didn't search for Gundam content and it was a random suggestion, so it looks like CZcams's algorithm is starting to pick you up. from a viewer's perspective I think I would enjoy more of your take on the battles/alternative outcomes; and, (keeping in mind I know it isn't easy to create content like this, so please don't take this as a slight) I would love more in-depth content on the individual mechs in the way of specifications/armaments/etc. I didn't see a donation link or a discord, but sure I'm not the only one who would be happy to show support in that way

I feel like another reason Zeon lost is the amount of Ace and Veteran pilots they had were swiftly killed or went missing. Zeon had multiple ace pilots and veteran soldiers but they always get killed off by either Amuro or other monstrous pilots in the Federation like Yuu Kajima with the Exam system. By the time of A Baou Qu, what little experienced and Ace pilots they have couldn't make a difference against the Federation mass army of veteran pilots and overwhelming numbers.

You'll one day see the big ones like A Baoa Qu and Solomon, but I want to make sure I do my research and can get as much extraneous lore in as well...even though I doubt I could include it all

I don't know too much about the difference between Origin canon and original canon, but when I do more videos I'm thinking about trying to blend them together the way modern documentaries would have two or more historical sources of the same event to work from

@@yamamotomechbattles I was thinking of doing what you did with 8th MS Team but I stumble unto your channel. You are definitely the guy to do it.
I read 0083 Rebellion to get a general idea of the Delaz fleet size. 0083 Rebellion strays from the canon of the OVA a lot but comparatively speaking, the fleets is nearly the same size. I had figured the OVA fleet was roughly 20 Musai cruisers + Delaz's flagship (various support vessel's). Cima's fleet from the start was about 4-5 Musai LCR and 1 Zanzibar II class Hvy CR.
I definitely believe it is a worthwhile endeavor as it is many Western Gundam fan's favorite out of the UC timeline.

I really recommend you looking up garen's greed video game for the PSP there's a english fan translation thats amazing . 4x gundom uc strategy game.were you play threw the whole war can win ir lose in space or land ! Also recomend you looking at gundam collection 1/400 gundam modela people have turned it into a tabletop game and you can have whole armys of gundama cheap on table . And can play a tactical table top game .

@@yamamotomechbattles its very hard to do as you can only play in japenese . there is an fan trastaion of 90% of it for psp version (few things arent and wierd side campains like titans and such arent just eff full and zeion are, theres a few tallented people like you who did it though and you can get running easy if intrested theres a good totroral on youtube on how to do . if any questions happy to expain with either . cheers!

Wait? What did I just stumbled upon? Love the 'Propaganda" weaseled into it to give it some believability, ie hiding dark truths. BTW If you love history, and like to see a historytuber who absolutely destroys propaganda, and presenting hidden truths. TIKhistory is a great example. He loves hunting for Historians making Contradictions, or Blatantly lying by citing 1st hand sources but then saying the opposite of what the 1st hand source actually said. ie you'd be surprised how much Distorians have a hold on how we currently view world history, politics and economics. The guy's specialty is primarily the interwar period between WWI and WWII though, and many is that period filled with so much BULL CRAP that isn't true.

I'll have to check him out. Studying history has certainly taught me how much that happens. Whether people make mistakes, intentionally obscure things, or have differing accounts -- it's all over history even today.
@@yamamotomechbattles Coincidentally he does Battlestorm series which he goes into insane detail on major battles/campaigns which he has a similar presentation style to this. But when I mean insane detail. Hours upon Hours upon Hours per campaign/battle. So you can likely guess why he's only done a few of those series. It's fun when he points out a German historian shill lying, and in the same series points out when Russian historian shill also lies. So you can tell he isn't bias for one side or another.

First two episodes alone he has to explain the political/military/economic situation before the battle even starts within the Baltic States.
His made two Stalingrad series, though still currently working on the 2nd. He spent 10 episodes in his newer Stalingrad series just reaching the city of Stalingrad so 30-40 hours showing the German offensive leading up to reaching Stalingrad, which is refreshing seeing someone care enough to do that.
Honestly his Battlestorm videos are amazing. But his other videos are also great. I love when his Weimar Hyper Inflation Part 2 he catches a historian blatantly lying, and more comically points out how absolutely bat crap crazy the popular narrative of the 1918/19 Revolution Germany actually is.
