Yeah, you're right, it's a good idea. The rated R version should just add the r-rated content, the PG-13 version should still have all the story.
This wasn't just a bad movie - it was LAZY. It's ok to be critical when the film maker is clearly counting on the viewers lack of intelligence by adding completely stupid and pointless special effects. I'm not a Snyder hater I just value my time.

Rebel Moon part 1 was just about OK. Part 2 was shockingly bad. I don't know what's happened to Zack Snyder, but I was 100% confident he would make an epic new series of movies. I am baffled by what's he's ended up doing....as a massive Snyder fan, I just can't believe what I saw when I watched part 2. Utter shite.
I can agree with those ideas.
Im torn on both movies. I really wanted to like them both so much more than i did, i gave part1 a 6/10 and the second a 7/10.
There were some questionable scenes, dialogue and action sequences in both movies. I want more background for all characters. More Jimmy. More mother World.

Im not really invested in Kora as the main tbh but i do really want to see more about Jimmy. I really think this movie would have done so much better with him being the main focus over Kora tbh.
Perfect world, we get just the intended version of RM. What Netflix is doing though is very financially smart. Four movies for the price of one, and three release dates to hold onto subscribers or get people to resubscribe.
Also, from the way Zack talks about the director's cuts, I think there will be vast differences not only in graphic visuals and added plot, but also a difference in tone. He's said that even an actor saying the same line is potentially different in the director's cut.
Either way, great assessment, and I totally agree with getting Terrio back (he's goated).
I loved both parts of Rebel Moon 🌙 and can’t wait for the directors cut and the continuation of this universe
This movie is a gold i watched three times in the first day that was coming out I'm going to watch it as much as can
I pretty much agree. Dump the pg13 cuts, get a screen writer, producer, and cinematographer, and reign Zack in a little bit. I think him putting slowmo everywhere is also a problem. A cinematographer can tell Snyder where it works and where it doesn't. I also think Netflix gave a little too much control. Whether Zack likes it or not, he needs to be controlled. I've been saying this for years, Zack works better when he doesn't write the films he directs.
You do realize this film had 2 screenwriters that weren't Zack Snyder. Maybe try reading the credits next time.
@NiRvAnA6890 yet somehow the movie still suffered. I'm also pretty sure he was the main writer. It's his story, after all. He needs to dump the writers then at that point.
@@NiRvAnA6890We do see three writers’ names but Zack’s name comes first, meaning he is probably the head writer. And if those 2 other writers couldn’t help him flesh out a decent script with fine lines, then probably he should replace those 2 with more experienced capable writers. Regardless of how much I like his previous films, his 3 most recent movies are really disappointing. And they are getting worse.
Part 2 is better than part 1 but the director's cuts are needed cant wait for August
I feel like with Snyder's long run time would be better fitted for miniseries. I think this is shown to work greatly in ZSJL on how they broke it up. I do agree on bring back his old team. I'm sure they probably didn't because of the cost but put the money out.

I fully agree with all your points here.
Releasing an inferior product was definitely a shot in the foot. In his DC era, haters would often criticise the story or the slo mo but now he's given them a legitimate reason to bash him and his fans the way they do because he's taken on way too much. I also think, in the end, this will affect his legacy, being the director who needs multiple versions of the same movie to tell a story. He's obviously talented, personally I think 300, his DC trilogy and Watchmen are his best work. Everything post DC has been a bit of a letdown and though as a fan I'm happy to see him experiment and try new things, at the end of the day he's in the entertainment industry where your job is to entertain and when you see your favourite artist not being respected the way you know he deserves because of actions which he did to himself then that CANNOT be defended.
Almost every review on CZcams and social media is giving it a thumbs down (with the exception of devoted fans). He doesn't care. According to him he doesn't watch negative reviews and that's fine, but when you leave your level-headed fans to be the shield for your sub-par work, it shows you don't care much about them either but rather for corporations to make money from deliberate (and damning) artistic decisions .
Zack is still my favourite director, but man, how can one keep on supporting these decisions when you know his TRUE work can be so much better?
I get what you're saying. I think the issue with listening to people who hate his films is that a lot of them just hate him for the sake of it rather than a valid reason. I've seen many criticisms that are actually factually wrong. So I get why he blocks out all negativity. I do think he should just release the very best version of the movie if he is allowed to.

Critical Drinker bashed the holy hell out of this movie.
Not just him, many movie reviewers who had been always pro-snyder... To be honest there a lot of more objetive and solid points of why had very bad score. A movie with a lot of flaws and nothing new to give to this genere...
"Extreme snyder haters" is when ppl give snyder a chance to prove himself time & time again but he screws up thus ppl give their thoughts. NO the ppl i've talked to said they won't be watching the director's cut seeing as they have no intrest in a watered down star wars rip off so idk what you're on about

It's ridiculous that there has to be extremes on either side. I like Snyder. Does that mean I like every work he's done? No. But that doesn't stop Snyder haters from accusing you of being a Snyder bot.
I believe the extreme is more so on the hater side. I've seen posts threatening to kill Ray Porter (voice actor for Darkseid) just because he offered an opinion on the Snyderverse.

Remember when fan kept giving the Transformers movie a chance and they were making a lot of money until the fans said they had enough, that's going to happen to the Rebel moon franchise if Snyder continues to go down this path. Hire writers to write his films, he's best when directing and should stick to directing.
I think the 2 different versions are fine. But they should simply release the PG-13 cut and the uncut versions simultaneously. That way, folks can choose right away.
No waiting for another version and giving folks time to opt out because they are impatient and decided to just judge everything on a PG-13 version only.
Zack was still smart to make 2 versions. If there are kids in the room, watch the PG-13 version. -OG
I agree with the directors cut thing. Who is going to watch a longer version of a movie they dont like? Also, the majority of the things being complained about are not things that get fixed in a directors cut. Is it set in stone that Netflix will let him make more though? I would have to think if they have an out they're going to take it. It's way too much money to invest in movies with these types of reviews from audience and critics. They are being laughed at in a way, I am also curious what effect this will have on Zack's career. I don't see any studios lining up to blank check him in the near future. He can obviously still direct and with a good script he can still find success, but he'll have to work his way back. He needs a win.
In all honesty though, the uproar RM has had is similar to BvS and the Snyder Cut. I'm not saying this film is on par with his DC films but it does feel like social media inflates the actual hate of his movies.
@@OurMovieNews There is truth to that. I think it gets clicks when they trash it. I watched a few videos that were really entertaining where they were just making fun of the movie the whole time. It's easy material to riff on. Now, it could be where Netflix doesn't care. "They're talking about it so all good." Im not sure. But I have to believe Netflix paid for a brand new popular IP that would be 100% theirs. So, do they cut their losses? Or do they keep pushing?

I really wanted to like this series of movies. However, part one moved way too slowly for me and part two, even with all the action, continued that slow burn. In fact, I couldn't even finish it, I fell asleep on three separate attempts. Zack should consider getting proper writers for his stories, as his writing is often weak. I really like some of his movies, and he has a unique style that sometimes works with certain genres of movies. Part of his problem is that his formula, though unique has become too repetitive. The overly colour-saturated dreamlike look of his movies has become formulaic and sometimes takes me out of the movie. The slow-mo everywhere (was the slow-mo necessary during the harvesting scenes?) just doesn't work all the time and it tends to slow down the pace of the storytelling. It's a shame this franchise didn't work for me, I just hope he learns from his mistakes and produces something spectacular, hopefully with the right team of writers and producers.
Solid review and insights! Completely agree with including the essential story elements while only removing the graphic content. The PG-13 version shouldn't be "subpar" due to story elements being removed. While I enjoyed part 1 and part 2, one thing that bothers me is that the most unique characters

keep getting killed off! That's really frustrating because Blood Axe from part one with his fantastic speech and presence was a great albeit short-lived character. Another great character was Charlie Hunam, I know he betrayed everyone but man he brought his own unique energy to the cast that was missing in part 2. Then you have my personal favorite, Nemesis, everything from her aesthetic to her unique weapons and origin, just added something cool to the cast. I think that one thing that really helps a Sci-Fi franchise is to have those unique characters. Without that, you just have a bunch of people running around with guns, much less compelling. Nemesis's absence will definitely be felt moving forward in the franchise, and I wish she had survived.
The ending was great with the revelation that the princess is alive, and Jimmy officially joining the Rebellion. Hopefully, with a few needed changes, this franchise can move forward. But they will need to find ways to distinguish themselves with unique characters like Nemesis or add more aliens to the core characters to stand out as a new Sci-Fi franchise.
I actually really agree with you there. Bloodaxe was wasted, so was Kai and Nemesis. Maybe their characters will be used more in the directors cuts? But either way in both parts, their characters were wasted.
Absolutely! I hope they can rectify this tendency , because the franchise and universe definitely have potential but it won’t get very far if they keep killing off the best characters 🤦🏾♂️

The movie was ok for me, better than the first one. But I agree that it could be better. Zack should get the team (writers, cinematographers, etc) back who helped him make great films. Unless he does that, I don't think we'll get anything on the level of 300, Man of Steel or ZSJL.

I get Netflix's strategy, but never agreed with it. Personally though, I don't think we can fairly judge Rebel Moon based on these PG-13 versions. It's not like this is some 'fix it' director's cut scenario excuse you saw 'haters' use during ZSJL. The extended director's cuts were advertised from the very start. Something to remember as well is dialogue can differ in different cuts of films. Off the top of my head, Army of Darkness. First time I saw the theatrical release, I was like where is the, "I ain't that good" line, amongst others. As for Part 2, parts of it do feel a bit rushed and that parts are missing, but true be told, i thoroughly enjoyed Part 2. Actually can't wait to watch it again. Bring on the extended director's cuts, and bring on Part 3.
Personally, I enjoyed part 2 of Rebel Moon. Moreso than part 1. I thought it was wise to have the characters go into detail of their personal history in the first hour. It makes you appreciate part 1 a little more because you feel like you understand the characters a bit more.
Second hour was pretty much all action. I love that it wasn't just another stereotypical movie where everyone dies save 1 or 2 characters. I hope what I said wasn't too much of a reveal.
Anyway, I love that the film ended in a way that it's not really the end. There's more story to be told. I love that. -OG

I’m a big fan of Snyder. I really don’t have a issue with us movies at all. His writing can mostly be a hit or miss but Snyder does the best he can. Rebel moon part 2 was way better than part 1. But if he can have someone work with him on the writing. I’m sure his rebel moon universe will be 10x better

He has 2 other writers. The writing is fine. It's a bs argument. The story is fine. It's a great story.
I also think that's a good concept. In addition, I believe he could collaborate with various anime-inspired animation studios to create anthology shorts like "Love Death and Robots" that feature the stories of the main characters; for instance, a short may explore Nemesis's backstory. All of these stories can eventually lead into the live-action third Rebel Moon film.
Thought Part 1 was okay Part 2 seemed rushed. I understand original concept ideas characters but didn't have feeling Good or Bad Guys just felt waiting next action seen.
So far for me the franchise has been "middling" and overall harmless. Liked the first part a bit better than the second but neither merit the in my opinion manufactured and exaggerated hate

Great Ideas,but there's a problem, I have a feeling netflix restricted the runtime. The only possible sex scenes in this movie are like 3 and the major fight scenes being about 3 in total doesn't give me the impression they would add the extra hour of footage. So if those other scenes could be added here,the definitely would. But there must have been a limitation on run time. He said something weird about focus groups recently ,and I think he's trying to imply that studios are actively trying to tailor movies to the masses. So that naturally puts a director like him that hasn't got the power Nolan, Cameron etc have in a situation where they aren't allowed to be creatively free. I felt a little bit of that in the recent Dune part 2. The second half of the movie moved so fast it was like things were sped up no apparent reason.
I don’t trust any of these critics or review sites especially after reports and articles coming out about certain platforms getting paid off to put out higher scores on certain films

I always thought writers like Alex Garland, Denis Villeneuve, Christopher McQuarrie, Jonathan Nolan, Brad Bird, James Gunn, Greta Gerwig, and Nicole Pearlman, are the kind of writers that can help execute Zack’s ideas properly, but I wouldn’t mind Chris Terrio or David S. Goyer to work with Zack moving forward on future projects.

In terms of what could make RM better, I guess a show that highlights more interesting parts of the universe? I gotta say, centering the focus of the story on a farming village and its grain did not help in the long run.
The action in Part Two was incredible! Totally worth seeing if you're an action junkie. Actually looking forward to watching the real movie/Director's Cut in August.

When are you Snyder fan boys going to stop making excuses for Snyders glaring flaws as a writer/director and look at the actual facts? There are consistent threads in the majority of people who do not like Rebel Moon 1 or 2 and they are horrible dialouge, extremely underdeveloped characters, poor villian and I'm sorry that haircut literally is probably the worst ive seen in cinema....it also is a reason hes not intimidating! You never feel the threat, there is no tension or stakes because Snyder has written such uninteresting and underdeveloped characters you literally could careless when any of them die! Bottom line the common consensus among the poor reviews is that the entire franchise is empty and gives you nothing to care about or be invested in!

It would be interesting if Terrio and Fong participated on the Rebel Moon sequels, as well as additional ZSJL actors. We’ll see.
Have enjoyed what I’ve seen thus far, both in movies and comic books and I am looking very forward to the SnyderCuts. Will be reading the novels for the time being.
Although, I personally think that Hatten is ok, as the story and the writing appear to be the regular arguments from the audience that claims not to enjoy Zack Snyder’s movies, including that of Batman vs Superman, plus I personally liked John Wick 4.
Fong is the one that’d be the wiser inclusion, in my opinion.

I dont hate snyder i dont know him, i ve like some of his work and some other not so much. The biggest issue with this movie is its writing. Im not a writer i cant make it better but as a movie watcher i ve notice its bad, he need to direct and not write and have people that are not afraid to tell him NO when he says stuff like yeah grain in slowmo sounds cool right. There is so much character underdevelopment we care for noone like the love story between kora and farmer boy. So yeah better writers
I'll be honest with you, I was fine with Rebel Moon the way that they came out. I might watch the director's cut, but it's not necessary for me at all. I just hope that Netflix understands that Zack Snyder is worth investigating in and will make a run at licensing the DCEU.

What I have heard zack want to experiment with his movies to see what work or not and they are alternate versions of scenes and dialogue And character moments that's why it's so many different cuts of the movies
And also I think everyone at least need to see the full complete versions of the movies

I think the only thing WB did right was saying no to bruce and Lois. Other than that, I think WB were entirely wrong in their decision making.
Netflix wanted a watered down version if Snyder wanted his movie funded and that's what he gave them. We have to wait for the real version and judge that movie.

He was preemptively dangling the director's cuts as something people should hold out for, before the first movie got released. That should have been a *huge* red flag. But certain people refuse to listen.

I think Zack should stop writing. He’s not a great storyteller. A good director and knows where to place the camera and knows how to set up good scenes but he’s just not a good storyteller. I think he should only be a director or a producer for Rebel Moon, I think he should get people who doesn’t always agree with him and can reign him in when his ideas get too much for the story. Focus on telling the story, stop doing set ups for sequels and focus on the movies first. World building is cool and tempting but the story and characters always comes first above all else.
Interesting. Do you think hiring chris terrio as writer would help Rebel Moon then? Making Snyder only the director and having an oscar winning writer create the screenplay.
@@OurMovieNews I think it would help. There’s a lot of questionable story decisions from Snyder I didn’t like from him and I think getting someone like Terio on board could help the story. Directors aren’t usually the writers for movies but they do have input. Maybe let other creative and talented directors and writers in on the mix. Even though Star Wars was George Lucas’s creation other creative and talented people helped made Star Wars to what it is. Before Disney ruined it. No more “Snyder Cuts” it really doesn’t make sense in the context of the streaming service. With this in mind Rebel Moon can work, Snyder just has to stop doing his usual stuff and focus on the best possible outcome for the story and the rest will come naturally. The problem with franchises and especially new franchises is that they try to rush these things out. Rome wasn’t built in a day as the say.

I am neither a Znyder fan nor Znyder hater but I would give this movie a 1/10 rating because, outside of a few well shot action scenes, it seriously has NO redeeming qualities.
The only way for Rebel Moon to be good is to tell better stories. All directors have to cut scenes to make it runtime and rating, and it turns out well. I don't like this mentality from Netflix or Zack Snyder saying, "If you don't like this version, don't worry. We have the director's cut to make it better." It's like DLC for movies.
Ripoff Moon-The scabies giver is another trash bin vehicle from Zackie boy. Now you know why Netflix didn't promote this clunker after the awful reactions to the first film. This man uses crayons to write his scripts for Pete's sakes😂. Just watch as the days progress, this film will crater in the viewership as they realize how played they were for watching this trash😂
I have always loved Zack, I have seen 300 countless times and have always watched all his work but I think since losing his child he has lost his edge which is a fucking tragedy. I truly hope he can one day return to form.
Snyder should stop surrounding himself with YES MEN & "YES MEN fans" it ripped off A bug's life & kung fu panda 3 both animated films. And every Netflix movie is number 1 when it comes out even if it's complete garbage
How can a good film maker have so little character development in both these movies yet have so much time to do endless slow motion scenes? Cut down on the slo mo and fix your characters.

The other great filmmakers can release movies into theaters or streaming services and still have better scores. Why are Zacks other movies are slowly declining? The Snyder Cut for JL yes that was needed and I liked it a lot but how come some of his other movies under performed?
