- I watched Rebel Moon Part 2 again last night, making that my second viewing and I have realised I have some more issues with it. In my review, I gave the movie an 8/10 but that has dropped since watching it again and in my previous video for rebel Moon, I mentioned some of my issues I had with the film but today I want to go more in depth with some new issues I have with the film. Now don’t worry I’m not here to just bash the movie or blindly praise it, I am just explaining my key issues with the film and providing how I would do certain specific moments differently. This is basically going to be a movie breakdown, discussing the scenes I liked and the scenes I would change or expand upon.

I think If Snyder does make more Rebel Moon he should bring on different writers because even though they've written some solid stuff like the John Wick movies, they are not the right choice for this universe.
Ray Fisher definitely was wasted. That's my biggest complaint.

Ray Fisher got killed off too soon and his death wasn’t really impactful. Kinda comes off as comedic. He was kinda wasted.

My problem with Snyder's whole "Just wait! There's a director's cut waiting in the wings that's so much better!" approach, is that he was given full creative control here from day one.
😂 the funny thing is what I learn is the director's cuts of the movies part 1 and part 2 both movies is over 3 hours each so that means both director's cuts together is 6 hours long
And also they are alternate takes characters and dialogue and moments Zack he said the directors cuts are basically alternate universes of the movies and again I understand you are breaking down the movies you are watching right now at least everyone should wait for the the complete full movies are out

I enjoyed part 2. I didn't even look at part 2 with an eye of scrutiny. I simply enjoyed it for what it was.
However, after having listened to your new critique of the film and the suggestions you might add, I have to say, I agree. I really like your suggestions, and it definitely would have added a lot to the film.
That said, I don't know that I would have reduced the score as much as you did. Otherwise, I really rather enjoyed your analysis. 👍 -OG

Part 1´s novel filled the gaps extremely well and only the backstory for Noble and more so his subordinate are book original. The cut down of an hour cost us characterizations, time to breathe and a timeline that makes more sense. The villages finding the ship happens in Part 1´s DC for example and not this weird 5 days timeline. Oh well. The real films are coming.
The fundamental change to save this franchise is the farm girl should've went with them in part one. That's it. You have an audience surrogate for everything to be explained to. Kora is a troubled mentor.
Isn't that what Gunnar's character was for?
It's gonna be rough ending part 2 on a cliffhanger with the poor reception to these movies.

Scargiver is kinda dumb. Not the movie but the name. I mean you’re at war anyone and anything can give you a scar. It doesn’t make sense. Even Kora has scars. So maybe her name could’ve been the Heretic, the King Slayer, or the Cursed Reaper. Those sound way cooler than Scargiver.
I loved it TBH. Just needs to expand on the plot a bit.

An adaptation of the House of the Bloodaxe comic books might be a good idea. More of Ray Fisher’s character would be interesting, imo.

I don't think we need to over analyse these PG-13 versions too much to be honest. Everyone who knew about #RebelMoon, before it's release, has known that extended director's cuts have been planned from the very start - even Zack Snyder haters. Now, depending on how people feel about this (annoying) release strategy; Rebel Moon in general; ZS having director's cuts for most of his films; or even ZS himself (for incomprehensible reasons), knew director's cuts were coming, so personally I don't really think we can properly judge this new franchise until we get the intented product. Even with both these versions of Part 1 and 2, we can see that at least three scenes are missing from the original trailer. Some of the issues mentioned in this video are for parts in the film where it feels like scenes have been cut. People are entitled to their opinions, but some of the hate these films are getting is completely unwarranted. In this comment thread as well, some commenters are calling it an "abomination." Really??? The CGI/special effects are pretty good; the overall story is fine; the writing/dialogue is okay apart from a couple exposition dumps. Imagine if people banged on as much about other films. Not talking about you Will, but man, 'you' used to not like something, and moved on, now, people don't like something, and it becomes their personality, especially in regards to Zack Snyder. A lot of these haters don't even realise that they are the ones who helped turned ZS into a brand name. Look forward to your review on the director's cuts.

Chill out everyone!!! This is the Netflix PG version. Zack himself, articles and the other cast say that the R-rated version is a completely different movie, not an extended version, but a different movie with its own universe in it. The PG version isn't Zacks version so chill out.
Maybe Rebel Moon would have worked better as an anthology movie series
Following the various characters and their stories in the universe
The thing connecting them all together is their mutual dislike and hatred of the empire
One thing is for sure these movies definitely needed a writing team to write each film and to keep Zack Snyder out of the writers room.

It's unfortunate that all the reviews and press are for two movies that Zack never wanted to make. The PG-13 cuts were good but I also have problems with it. It's hard to judge until we see the real vision he has in mind
It was his idea to release these PG-13 versions first…. Therefore, the epically flawed movies are still his fault…
@@mothermakeup7481 It was the only way to make the directors cuts possible. He wrote a 200 something page script and Netflix wanted him to take out so much and change the rating that he made them a deal to where if he made the family version for Netflix, then he could make his directors cuts without any supervision and keep his original script. He has said that the PG-3 cut is practically a parallel universe because they are so different. But again it's tough to judge since we haven't seen them yet
These versions were released with Zack Snyder's full approval. This isn't a WB situation at all. Stop making excuses for that hack.

I agree 1000%. The lack of character building is a giant obstacle for this movie being anywhere near great in status. It’s a cool universe he’s created but there’s just so much meat being left on the bone here. The timing was also off. You hit the nail on the head with the air support suggestion. That should’ve been earlier and had more of a function other than just shooting down other air crafts. Ray Fischers character definitely shouldn’t have been killed off. I didn’t like it in the first movie and really disliked it in the 2nd. I’m actually quite disappointed with this movie. I really like the universe he’s created and Noble is a dynamite villian as is what we’ve seen of Bellasarious but the execution was a complete miss in my opinion and Zack really needs to be reigned in and course corrected or this universe he’s trying to build into 5 or 6 movies is DOA. I’m baffled with the lack of character backstories and understanding of who they really were. What happened with what he did in Man of Steel?
The main problem with this movie IMO is the editing, it's as if i was watching 10 different movies and now Snyder says that the Director cut is totally different from this one. So what was the point of this. I still enjoyed the movie though but could have been better....
Ray Fisher should've been the male lead in this movie honestly hopefully we get bloodaxe spinoff with him cleopatra coleman and elise duffy

To be fair Rebel Moon's biggest inspiration comes from the French magazines Heavy Metal and Metal Hurlant
The problem is those stories were all anthologies and had talented writers on each story.
