  • In this video I share my experience dealing with a stripped out drive hub on my Maytag Brovos top loader washing machine. The model number of my washer is MVWX655DW1. As I understand it this design is used on more than just Maytage high efficiency designs. So, this video may help with other applications. (which ones I don't know. ) This video, though it does go into some detail of how I replaced the drive hub, is not a "how to" video. It's mainly a video showing how your washing machine may sound and act if the drive hub is stripped out. Also, this video makes not guaranty that if your machine sounds like this that it is in fact a stripped out drive hub causing it. You will have to properly diagnose your machine before performing a repair. This is also not a "how to" video on how to properly diagnose your machine.
    Now, if you need a how to guide on how to replace the drive hub then I'd suggest watching the video linked below. It was the best one by far I've found on this job. Note: I make no guaranty regarding the work of another channel. I make no guaranty that by following the video linked below that you will fix your washing machine. I make no guaranty that you will be safe performing the repair shown in said video. Use the information found in this video linked below at your own risk.

    Thanks...! Good to know about this...
    By the way, that small, rounded, plastic cover-cap has a slot on its side for easier removal. Pop it out with a flat-blade screwdriver tip. Then you can see the agitator's mounting bolt head.
    If your unit has been in service for a good while, you may want to search up ways to pull a tub that has its tub-to-driveshaft coupler stuck to the washer's main drive shaft. I know I'll be applying a small amount of anti-seize compound (automotive anti-seize) to the agitator mounting bolt as well as to the tub's coupler-to-driveshaft splines. This may make life easier for future access and eliminate the hassle of fighting a tub removal. It will also help reduce rust build-up on the agitator's mounting bolt threads.

    Hi. Can you help? I took the wash plate off. To get to the Hub. I need to replace the hub. I took the 6 screws off the hub but o can’t get the old hub off. The spline shaft is too big. I see in your video there isn’t any spline that your hub is on. The hole in the middle of the old hub is too small.

So would the ones under affect the tub I guess? I aam not an applaice person either but I aam just trying to diagnose it my self andd see if I can fix especially in this pandemic the last thing I want is to be goimggg out to the laundry mat. Any tips

    Very nice, simple video. I think the hub is plastic because it is sacrificial. If it engaged the steel splines then the weak link would be somewhere else in the machine... somewhere harder to get to and a more expensive part.

    Wow! That sounds normal, just kidding. Our Maytag Bravos made that rumbling sound and it was shaking horrendously during the spin cycle then throw a "UL" code meaning uneven load. This was 2 years ago and we replaced the drive hub and sensor. It purrs now like brand new for a 10 year old washer.

    Just replaced my hub recently. Shaft teeth were worn down somewhat, not sure how plastic hub can wear down metal teeth on shaft. Anyway, before I attached new hub, I applied a very light coating of a two-part epoxy on the shaft teeth and then put new hub on. Have to be careful NOT to apply too much, as it will adhere the tub to the part of the shaft where it should freely spin. Working well so far. We'll see how long that lasts.

  • @dannyramirez8428
    @dannyramirez8428 Před rokem +1

    We picked it out, because no middle agitator, meant bigger loads. (Blankets). However I think it's what kills these machines earlier than the average washing machine.

  • @user-ru8rg4gi6g
    @user-ru8rg4gi6g Před 7 měsíci

    It is easy to diagnose. Spin the agitator and watch the tub. The tub should be spinning together with the agitator. If the threads are stripped the hub won’t spin together with the agitator. The agitator teeth are plastic also but don’t wear as easily as the hub threads do. If this test shows a problem take out agitator first and go to diagnostics mode and see if sound continues. If it does then remove hub and go back in diagnostics. When sound stops you know what part to replace.

  • @lynneturner5847

    • @turbonerd42
      @turbonerd42 Před 3 lety

      I'm right there with you. I was able to get some very small screwdrivers under the lip of the agitator plate. Then by pulling on one of the vanes and hitting near the hub with a rubber mallet, eventually it came off. Still working on the tub removal :/

    • @turbonerd42
      @turbonerd42 Před 3 lety

      by the way: block the drain slots around the perimeter or the tub with masking tape or something. The screws that hold the hub will fall down them.
