    WHO IS JIANG YU SHAN:
Jiang Yu Shan (Hisham Al-Haroun) has lived 30 years in Taiwan practicing Kung Fu and Qigong. He is most notably known for being the master of the monkey style but he is also a master in Tai Chi, Bagua Zhang, Wing Chun, Xin Yi Ba and Wu Zhu Quan.
Jiang is a 33rd generation Shaolin disciple and has been nominated 9th Dan (or “Duan”) in Chinese Kung Fu. In addition, he comes from a wrestling family and is well-rehearsed in other martial arts such as catch wrestling (he has a good relationship with the notorious CACC Snake Pit in Japan).
Not only that, Jiang also worked as a special forces (CMC.SCC) drill instructor for over 10 years teaching hand to hand combat, tactical raid, entry team tactics, knife fighting and hostage rescue to Taiwanese special ops. Before that he was an army paratrooper in the German military where he got his initial military education.
Due to his respected status in Taiwan’s society and his high expertise in self-defence, he has served as a bodyguard for several Taiwanese presidents and presidential candidates. A foreigner working as a body guard for a president is extremely rare and unheard of in almost any country in the world.
To test his martial arts skills and proficiency in practice, Jiang has competed in various kickboxing, Sanda, MMA and Karate competitions, winning 7 gold medals. His biggest victory was winning the All Japan Karate MMA competition 2016 in Tokyo, Japan at the age of 45.
Jiang has 40 years of training in Kung Fu and has operated as a respected teacher since he was in his twenties. Now, he is a grandmaster who comes from very rare and pure lineages of Kung Fu and Qigong. This is why his teachings are not only very unique but also more effective than many of the commercial forms of Qigong or Kung Fu you see today.
It’s our privilege and honour to showcase his skills to the broader audience. Enjoy!

I've been practicing/teaching MA since 1970 where I learned my MA from two warriors who fought in Korea and Vietnam. I have more belts than I need, and in fact, I don't care about any of them. I train for myself, and I teach to pass on what I've learned over a lifetime. I could care less about "styles" as I trained with/fought alongside the IDF commandoes in the mid 1980s during the first Intifada. What I learned kept me alive. I know what works in combat, and every martial art I've trained in teaches me something usable, though there are lots of "techniques" that are not usable. True Krav Maga is not a martial art, but a collection of principles regarding what works and what doesn't. That, for me, is what matters most. I love some of the ritual/traditional techniques for the "art," but I don't consider this to be combat training, just art. The body conditioning in many styles (Karate, Kung Fu, Filipino MA, etc.) are very tough, and many are stylistically unique to themselves, but pragmatically, most are the same, and they work. I would never put one style or school over another, and most of the true masters I know never call themselves masters. I had my own dojo for a long time, but I am always a student, and my goal is to continuously begin and learn anew. I teach what I know, but I know only what I know until I learn more. That's what martial arts should be about, IMHO.

    • @ghostdude45
      @ghostdude45 Před 3 lety +26

Really, it isn't the "style" that is secret, but the training methods used. Back before guns and missiles, a training method was the weapon to be a closely guarded secret.
Maybe hardening you body against minor blunt force attacks (like fists or kicks) was the method to give one an edge. Or having hard enough strikes to shatter bone was another. Or even have intimate knowledge of causing joint and ligament damage was the fighting method to be stashed away.
And the more "secret" it was, and the less anybody knew about aside the idea that it made a practitioner deadly, made the art more "mystical" in nature. Honestly, it was a part of a large game of psychological warfare with enemies or even allies out of the loop.
To have a "secret style" is more or less akin to us having "secret nuclear weapon technology" in today's time.
Now-a-days, with our vast knowledge thanks to the internet and with a lot of the training methods being more well known thanks to all the combat sports and biological/anatomical advancement in our share knowledge base, it does seem ridiculous to keep calling arts secret styles and the like.
However, some of the ways the Chinese trained were far ahead of their time that we only relatively started to understand with science like kinesthetic visualization actually strengthening your nervous system to recruit more muscle fibers without much movement and the like.
TL;DR. It was more the training methods than the style that was a secret because they were considered powerful weapons "technology" in the time before guns.
Some of these method did, in fact, hold on to certain training methods that are only just now being understood like visualizing being used to strengthen the nervous system for muscle fiber recruitment and even some anatomical knowledge to destroy the body of an opponent.
I agree that it seems ridiculous to call them secret when now we know more about our bodies and combat sports science, but it was tradition for a long time.

The point was that it's the most complete because it has the complete harden skill (every part of the hand and body) which is lacking from every modern traditional martial art today. Even in Japanese martial arts like Bujinkan, the former grandmaster Takamatsu had conditioned fists and fingers (even feet) but the current grandmaster Hatsumi only has soft hands and fingers, and they are no longer practicing the harden skill.

@@RedStoneWhite That is largely what I was trying to get across. The "secret" to the art was the method in which one trained their body/mind in order to become more than just a guy who could punch and kick well. The "secret" was knowing what people had a hard time defending or fighting against, and then utilizing that in the style's curriculum of body/mind conditioning.

Yup , traditional Chinese Kung Fu has different category in the past. Qi Kung and martial Art are two separated school in the past , although the physical form seems to be alike , the core teaching and the goal between two schools are different. This is why there are Kung Fu master in the past that only meditate and achieve power by just sitting. If someone understand the human body truly , he will come to realize that no matter how strong we are , we are very fragile. Killing someone is way easier than defeating someone unharm.
But achieving Qi Kung Strength has a price (I don't mean money , but there are draw back) , that is why , for self defence , Martial Art is a better way to go. No matter which approach to go , health is the most important thing , without health , everything is pointless. So , learning Qi Kung for self exploration and health maintenance , and Martial Art for defence becomes the thrid category later on. But the knowledge has to be understood and separated. This is just like how we train our muscle and how we play sport is totally different , mixing up the two will cause problems that are not needed.
In ancient , Kung Fu is more than just punching someone. For someone who has control over the body , and training our will power , your inner strength will be strong. Only then , could one really do anything in the world properly. Someone who doesn't have control over the body and his will power , nothing great could truly be achieved. To achieve any of this , breathing is the key.
Bruce Lee made the mistake of mixing up both system and treating them as one , yes , great strength could be achieved , but not truly know how both system work in their own unique way , damage to the body will be done. Tai Chi is a great example of Qi Kung , the use of Tai Chi on fight , and the practice are different within , this is not something that could be seen with naked eyes. If someone could tap into the whole mind (this is where science is not totally accurate) , you will see that doing something consciously and unconsciously has different effect. If someone tap into the part where you just let your body fight , you will see that your body fight way better than your consciousness, yet remain conscious while letting the unconsciousness function. Having this access to the mind , doing two / three / four / five things at a time will not be a problem. Having the eye to truly see how beautiful the world is , this is something no force in the universe could take away. Ultimately , Kung Fu and spiritual realization is the same.

I love the information and tidbits of training, even if it's just a glimpse. Blessings to the Grandmaster of Monkey fist door& Vahva fitness and have a Merry Christmas.

This is a far lesser known Kung fu style like sanda and wing chun. Some Kung fu styles like Northern Eagle Claw, hung gar, etc, are really popular, while styles like Canton dog are rarely talked about. In fact, many sanda punching techniques were taken from western Boxing combined with choy Li Fut Kung fu.
