Great video really appreciate the AOD content. I just recently picked up a one owner '91 GT with the AOD and 57k miles. I'm a truck driver by trade and bang gears all day. So after work all I wanna do is ride and enjoy.đ
My 91' aod gt vert has 3.73 gears with a transgo shift kit and 5500rpm governor. It's amazing the difference having firmer and more spread out shift points can make during normal driving. The car no longer shifts into 3rd in the middle of a turn and downshifts more easily.
I always loved the AOD. People gave them a bad rap for poor tv cable adjustments. Take an AOD/SilverFoxRacing SPT-R Valve Body (check them for sure)/Nice converter, maybe a hardened input shaft and you have a nice setup. You can also do 4R70w internals in an AOD case too. Also, you can adjust your tv cable by using a gauge connected to the trans and do some driving and monitor/adjust/etc to get it right.
I wish you'd talk to Silverfoxtrans or test out one of his valve bodies on the channel.
Im in canada but first ive heard of this silverfoxracing , but im gonna look into the SPT-R valve body some more for my AOD , any thing else i should know? and do you have a rough estimate on the total cost for one of those? i just dont have the hardened input shaft, just a converter and shift kid but im looking to pep it up a bit more, thanks!
Had an AOD in my old 89 convertible. 302 with Trick Flow top end and 3.73 gears. Had a TCI Street Fighter converter to match the stage 1 cam. Had a glovebox full of 12.80s at Bristol Dragway. The TV cable was the hardest to tune. Takes very little movement to affect the shift points. Added an external B&M cooler that tied in with the radiator. I could grab the bottom of the shifter and it would be cool, that wasnât the case before the cooler.

12.80 is quick in Bristol that is a notoriously slow track and people typically trap 6-8 mph less than good tracks because the da usually sucks but most of all the last 3/4 of the track is literally uphill. What was your trap speeds?
I had a stock aod hooked up to a 408 and drove the s*** out of it for about a year before converting it to a c4 sold the transmission to a young kid and he's been driving with it for about 3 years with no issues
Greatly appreciate the aod content with the gears nice to know the range of rpms. Would love to have some built aod stuff as well. Great info for later. Awesome content as always keep up the good work!!! đ€đđ
Ditch the AOD, go 4R70W with aftermarket controller. 4R good to 600hp almost stock, 700+ with extra clutches. Good converter, true lockup like having 6 speeds (lock in 3 and OD). Manual or auto shift, 4:10 gears and 3000 stall. Best option for auto.
Nothing wrong with an AOD as long as the throttle pressure cable is properly adjusted and You can keep it from overheating . I've got a bad left knee and can't use it for depressing a clutch so I have to use an automatic transmission . đșđČđ”đ·đŠđ
I have always wanted to seeđ someone built an AOD with mods. Dude I've never seen that in no channel. Everyone is so pro-5-speed in a foxbody that AOD in a 5.0 is almost a mythđ. It will be weird seeing someone putting in valves, shift Kit, AOD transmission body kits, a trans cooler, a transbrake etc. In a Fox nowadays. That is like so foreign, but in the Fox world it's more like outer space đđœđŸ
I have a badass built AOD behind a 351w with a 76mm turbo about to upgrade to a FIS Jose 80mm and I love my AOD especially being able to still cruise in overdrive and launch it off the trans brake at 3600rpm

Just happened across your channel! I love mustangs myself. I had an 88 GT as my first car and still have it!!
I've been having issues with my AOD ,when I'm in overdrive the car bucks as if it's starving for air/fuel something. I did some research and found that I may need to adjust my TV cable so this video really helps because I didn't understand how to make the adjustments. I had no issues prior to my full valve body install so I can only assume the tech who installed it didn't adjust my TV cable correctly.
I know they arent the same but the 4r70w is one of my favorite transmissions. With a Jmod performed on the stock valvebody, a mark viii coverter, 3.27 gears, and oem shift scheduling/trans tuning, I put a NPI 2v into the high 13s in a 3200lb car with driver.
Very cool đ video Brew2L. Iâve only had 1 AOD, and had to have it built. I havenât had a automatic Mustang, since the late 80âs , it was a 77 Cobra II 302, C4.
First, great video man glad to see the 65. I'm one frame rail away from taking mine to my buddy's body shop! I can't wait to get to drive her again
Been waiting patiently for the 65 cannot wait
Nice! AutoXing with my 250k mile AOD here đ. External cooler and Transgo SK-AOD shift kit. The TV/kickdown cable is the same idea Mopar has. As far as cam sounds & autos, well, you and Joe Nate heard my 318/904 at the pre-meet
Always nice to have the option between taking a stick car out or and auto. My '86 was an AOD, shift kit, .373's no stall but it worked awesome once we set it up right. There's something relaxing about driving an auto, especially in high traffic areas. On a side note I'm going to start saving for my trip to FTO, going to be a bit expensive where I'm coming from Nova Scotia but it's definitely on my bucket list, ideally I'd like to drive there and back in my Capri...time will tell!
I've got 355 gear. I do a lot of 1-3-5 or 2-4 in town. Starting in 2 is still more gear than the classic cars and gears.
Shifting gets old.đđ

â@hotrodray6802 I don't mind shifting at all. I don't view it as a chore. I truly love driving manual trans and the connected feel. I admittedly don't live in a high traffic area so I don't deal with that alot but even when I do drive into the city it doesn't bother me honestly. I'm just a stick guy and it comes second nature almost as if it's welded into my central nervous system lol.
Haters beware.. I'm 51 years old now and I love a vehicle with the man pedal but I'm tired of the constant input from me. I would love to do an aod swap. I should've when I had my car apart. I rebuilt the t5 not cheap I put a Hurst shifter not cheap I put a good clutch in brand slipping my mindđ. New bezel and boot and shifter knob. I could've had a nice aod by now. Aod Fox Bodies make me feel dirty, for me it just takes everything cool away from them, maybe it's a nostalgia thing idk. Even a grudge/no prep/street raced purpose built money car, where I know full well an automatic is the only option in order to be competitive, I'm still like "it'd be cooler with a stick",lol. I'm really only like that with Fox Bodies, Corvettes, Camaros, mini trucks and anything of a performance nature đđ
Hands down one of the worst question to ask a automatic foxbody owner at any gas station, car show, stop light.. đŁïž "Is it a manual or an auto". Damn it itz a foxbody let me Be đđ€Ł
Dude thank you so much for touching on the aod tv cable adjustment. Iv been trying to get my 87 vert lined out and its been shifting weird and not down shifting right. Hopefully this will help me out. Thank you!
Perfect gears for AOD my brother Dom and Mike both ran an AOD for years in their mustangs. They had one piece input shaft canât remember who built them maybe LenTech in Canada and maybe one of them had it built again with a one piece input shaft had it built from dynamic transmissions in Connecticut. Both of those cars were 306 with TFS street heats heads and at the time both were Vortech B Trim. I think they had a wolverine cam which was Jimmy LaRoccaâs specs and I believe both had an Acufab 75 mm throttle body 77 ProM and all half inch fuel system I think it was the Paxton pump and regulator. Oh yeah my brother Mike ran a TFS intake with a GT 40 lower Dom had a GT 40 upper and lower. AOD ran really good and held up I believe that transmission from LenTech had a trans brake. So long I canât remember now my brother Dom still has his car but that things are 408 with a pro charger and a C4
I have a AOD with a converter and so far it does everything I ask it to do. I drive my car hard and I havenât had any issues. Also hurt some stick shift feelings along the way lol The 4.10 gears definitely made it more fun to drive as well. Solid pairing for sure.

Glad you did this. I've been planing to 5 speed my 90 hatch. My 83 vert has the c4. I do plan to leave it for now but it's not the best on the interstate. I recently got a 87 gt with a 5speed. So now I'm thinking about leaving the 90 aod now since I will have a 5speed to play in. The 83 is a all original v6 car with 96 thousand miles on it. Got it for my son but he didn't want to wait for the resto and we bought him a import sports car. Next plan was to v8 swap it but now my wife wants it left a v6 so she can drive it to work instead of her suv every day. She said when I'm done u can v8 swap it but for now leave it v6 for me. Gota keep the boss lady happy. Especially when I have two other v8 cars to play with.
You earned that like with the burnout intro
I think we can all agree that 1 foxbody just ainât enough đ. Need 1 Stick, 1 Auto and another for Pro-Mod, maybe another for show lol
I run a AOD in my bracket car, I run 25 to 30 weekends a year. The AOD has been rebuilt 2 times in 13 years of racing, so not too bad. I run a 2800 converter and 4.56 gears. Shifts to 3 rd gear at about 300 ft.
Just took my heavy aod gt vert to the track friday night. Very first pass ran a 13.72 in the quarter with a 1.83 60' and 8.6 to the 1/8. P heads, explorer intake, 70mm tb, stock cam with 1.7s, (speed density)4.10s, pa street/strip vb and edge 3500 non lockup stall. A well put together aod combo will run!
Iâm still fighting to get my aod right but I love it. My Buddy gonna swap his 4.10s for my 3.73s. Canât wait to get back on the road
I had a aod fox body for 25yrs. Before I sold it with a 331 with afr heads I had lot of fun in it
Appreciate the AOD content! Sure I enjoy driving a 5spd, but I also enjoy the auto with the 4.10âs too. Stall converter is almost a must, which Iâm about to put in mine.
What stall do you recommend? Full bolt on car with e cam and 4.10âs. Intake and heads will probably come in the future but will be mild.
2800
Brew's gray car has 2400 he said.
More than that is way too much IMO,
unless you have a really high rpm cam.
Remember, the more torque your engine makes at this rpm, the higher the actual stall will be. Can vary + - 300 easily.
I installed the blue Anderson Super 40 Spark Plug Wires last month and theyâre amazing!
I had an 88 GT FoxLake built 306 and stock 5spd with 4:10 gears that I drove daily for 5+ years with no issues. I loved it and surprised many of contenders on the street. You talked about "squashing the cam" with the AOD.
Q: (If you don't mind divulging this info) what chip are you using and which tunes do you prefer for cruising?
Thanks. Cool channel btw!
Hey buddy. I've been catching up on some older vlogs.the nitto 555 tires that have been in the background by the tuxedo lift. What size rims are those? And tires to I guess. I was gonna get some 275/40-17s but those look like 15s

Oh manâŠ.I had a â91 LX 5.0L notch with the AOD years agoâŠ. I so miss that car.
My 86 4 eyed vert has an aod and itâs very relaxing and underrated
I just pulled my t-5 to replace it with a c-4. But that being said I would love to have a built a.o.d transmission. I just prefer relaxing myself....
The easiest way to adjust it is with a pressure gauge. Now I did mine with a lokar cable and a carb, so I got the spacer with it, but there is a spacer you put in the cable, hook a pressure gauge up to the port, and get it as close to 35psi as possible. Then it should drop back to zero when you are done. Takes out the guesswork.
Quick question, you talked about the adjustment on the kick down and when u showed the location it was on bottom of throttle body. Now I know people have carb swapped aod cars but you said that being not adjusted right can mess up the trans. How would it differ on adjustment if on a carb motor. Reason I ask is I was planning on taking the aod out of my 90 and put it in my 83 vert when I v8 swap it. Some might ask why I would take out a c4 and put a aod in. Well that's bc I plan on the vert being a cruiser date night with the wife car not a hot rod. Just peppy enough to have fun but have over drive when on the interstate so it's not up in rpm at 75. Remember when the c4 was the auto trans the national speed limit was 55 not 70 plus so over drive is a key asset to the cruiser car.
I have an 89 Crown Vic AOD, (of course) its fine normal street use. PRO TIP... C4 is same length and bolts right up !!! And NO TV cable hassles. Using an A9L computer made for automatics.
AOD is dope transmission just need the right build for it and know how to shift

When I drive around at myrtle Beach I am glad I kept my aod. With that being said I love my other t5 car too but in traffic aod is always my choice.
Aod can be built to handle 950-1000 horsepower. As for valve bodies im running a tci constant pressure vb in my 92..love it. I also have a manual vb goin in my 87 aod car. I run 4.10s also in both cars. Its nice to just cruise without shifting gears at every stop light.
I had a 91 auto with 4:10's and I wish it ran 2,200 at 65-70. Mine was quite a bit higher than that. Love the channel and your cars are beautiful.

My daughter's car (98 gt vert) is a auto..and tbh..it's nice to jump in it and just go.
Yep how'd you know lol . They rob you from horsepower not mention it wastes more gas . For daily driver for sure but in a track mode , automatic for sure . 410s help out but doesn't bring it home with an AOD unless sprayed , single low boost trurbo or a blower . Procharger , Vortech etc .
Shift kit and tv cable adjustment in my 92 mn12 5.0 shifts faster than I can do myself in my 94 GT
I have a question and I know it doesn't pertain to anything in this video but what kind of splines are you going to run when you put the supercharger on the carbon fox, 28 or 31, or which would you recommend for stock bottom and a blower
So this off topic , building a 347 stroker with a f-303 cam ,Iâm using a Quick Fuel Brawler 850 cfm carb , looking for recommendation on intake . Putting it in a 55 ford customline for a Saturday night cruiser.
and there was the matter of timing...paddle shifters came out in the end of the 1990's, and people started realizing modern slushboxes shift quicker (and i've been rowing all my life) so Foxes were in the era of "stick beats slush".not that the AOD quadrant didn't hurt the situation...good look finding third, you have to downshift and reshift to find it.
AODTTF, my foxbody has 4.56 gears, 9" lock up converter, street drive it all the time, no issues
let's talk wheels. how do you run a different offset in the rear of the gray fox body? did you change the rear end? what is the width of the rear end from the flange to the flange?

This is so unrelated except for the fact that it is an aod Transmission in my Mustang. please please throw me a bone an answer this question if you can. so I have a code reader. the new type. and an OBD1 reader plus a conversion wire that allows the pins to matchup so i may use the new one on the old plug.
there seems to be two plugs that actually go into it.
one that's bigger and one that's kind of really small and off to the left side. I don't know if they're all grey but mine is.
anyway the little one that goes into it I have to pull really hard and stretch it to fit into it and it will just barely reach. i'm thinking maybe when I had the mechanical fan switch over to an electrical it was wired up over there closer towards the radiator side of the car so that it could read some type of information that would come from the fan. I've actually had the mechanical fan put back on because I didn't like the electrical fan for whatever reason I don't remember.
but I'm afraid to stretch that plug back over to where the big plug piece is up by the fire wall to put it into the adapter cord converter for the reader because if I'm wrong then I might fry the whole electrical system.
I don't see an option button where I can upload pictures for you to look at, otherwise I would.
