I recall listening to a radio channel with this kind of music here in the Netherlands. I was just once on a show never heard it again. I been looking for this style ever since. Till on a nice sunny day I figured it out that it was Zydeco. The combination with elements of Gospel makes this one of the shining jewels of music style. Absolutely brilliant the combination of piano and accordion strengthening the emotions of the vocals.
Everyone from the South (New Orleans) knows of Buckwheat Zydeco. Even President Bill Clinton. My grandmother family when they immigrated from the South of France to the US way back when heard of Stanley Dupree "Buckwheat Zydeco" He is the best. He can make a people fall to their knees and give thanks for just being alive. Wolfhounddennis 1/27th Inf Northern California

Does anybody know if I can find a video clip of this song somewhere? I heard this song in the background while Zydeco was being interviewed by Nick Spitzer on American Routes radio archive. I was knocked out by this combination of Zydeco and Cooder’s slide. What an amazing atmosphere they create! This is real American routes music. Luckily, I found the CD including other New Orleans music and bought for my friend and myself. By the way, Ry Cooder is aging great!
this was done originally by george perkins & the silver stars in pts 1&2 you must hear it to appreciate the song, Also try no need for a black man to cry by them also. One of those gone to soon. Both are classics also.
Magnificent, but this is not the original. A gospel group did this in the early 60s. I cannot recall their name, but this was during The Civil Rights era. It was a big hit in the south, with the church crowd/adults and young people alike, because everyone knew exactly what the national mood was, one of civil unrest, demonstrations, segregation, etc. A classic.
