    In some instances a motherboard will accommodate either. My PC had a "B" & "M". I first replaced that with a larger with "B" & "M". I then replaced that with a M.2" -- Samsung 970 EVO -- with only the "M" key. Worked and works fine with either.

      I have several motherboards in my lab that are either SATA OR NVME protocol M.2 slots. It just depends on the maker and motherboard model. I honestly wish M.2 was NVME only. It would make life easier.

      @@TheNerdIsIn The nomenclature among the drives is confusing. Both are different, but both are M.2. Both are different, but both are SSDs.
