    This is another great method taught by Chris. Though, for anyone saying, it felt obvious that Chris was writing down the person's answer, I too felt that, but I have seen this done in a slightly different way that gets rid of that issue.
    Use the same force, but tell them you will get to that later (Or force a specific card and ask them to remember it for later.
    Then ask the first question, but ask them to "Think about it". ie, "Think of a 3 digit number", then write your prediction of it (You actually write the card you forced). Ask them for the number, and when they say it (i.e. 128), you can act kind of disappointed like you didn't write the correct answer. That way you have your "prediction" written BEFORE they announce their answer.
    Then ask the second question, again using the word think, "Think of a person's first name who is important to you"... You write your prediction while they think... You stare into their eyes, use all the mentalism patter, "Say it over and over in your mind", "Really concentrate on it", then you write down 128 (or whatever number they told you on the last question). Then ask them for the name. Again, feel free to look disappointed.
    Then you ask them to remember that card, or say you're going to make a prediction about the card they cut to. Then you simply write the name they said a moment ago.
    You now mix the cards a bit, and ask them for the number (going back to the "first question", then the name, then the card, all while showing your correct predictions.
    Just a thought on improving the method's timing.
    Thanks again Chris for being awesome! Even in a 2 year old video!

  • @briancherry8088
    @briancherry8088 Před 5 lety +405

    I think the timing works better if you say... "Think of a number. Now let me write down my prediction". It would help reinforce that one thing has ended and another has started. Otherwise it kind of feels like you are writing the answer from the last question before you ask the new one.

      Oh, gee, do you think?

    • @DanLimbach
      @DanLimbach Před 4 lety +15

      I agree. It's a great trick and your tweak makes it even better. Tell the subject to think of a number, and look me in the eye while you have it locked in your brain. Then write down the prediction, which is the prior answer (or the card you peeked). Continue through the progression. On one of them, you can pretend to be experiencing a weak connection and ask them to concentrate a bit more, and then say it is better. Or have them touch your arm while they concentrate on their answer. This works well as a way to be flirtatious while doing the trick. The more involved they are in the process, the less they think about how the trick might work.

    • @josephsaeteurn9158
      @josephsaeteurn9158 Před 4 lety

      @@DanLimbach *tell subject to think of a number * ...then how would you know what number to write down if he didn't say it out loud? are you banking on him thinking of a number and hoping he doesn't ask you i was thinking of number 99 but none of the prediction have 99?

    • @jason_v12345
      @jason_v12345 Před 4 lety +2

      The problem is that this particular card-force then becomes obvious.

    • @DL-kc8fc
      @DL-kc8fc Před 4 lety +4

      You are right that in the video submission, the trick is very untrustworthy and the boundaries between query and writing are blurred, which is easy for an average bright person to detect. It is also very unfortunate to perform this trick over Skype. Since I have been doing this trick since the last century, I had to change its concept so that it was as trustworthy as possible, ie that there was a clear line between action and guessing. Here's my guide: I do it with a deck of playing cards (I don't want to carry paper and a pencil), which I throw all over the table face down and spread both hands across the table or pile them up, etc. Before I play cards shuffled, I remembered the card from the bottom of the deck, which is not a problem when shuffling, and I remembered its position on the table. Suppose it was Spades 2. Then I invite the person to point me with a finger to the Spades 2. I will say that I am not only trying to guess the card shown, but that I know in advance which card he will point to (these are two mental tricks in one!). Of course, the person and I do not see the value of the selected card, such as a cross 10. If she accidentally points to my spades2, whose position I remember and which has been said, the trick ends with great success by guessing the selection). Let's go back. In my hand is a selected cross 10, which I do not show the person. I commend the person that this is interesting and that we will try again. So I invite her to point to cross 10 (I have it in my hand). Again, if she pointed to my two of spades, which are still somewhere on the table, the trick ends with great success, because I would have both a spades 2 and a 10 cross in my hand, which I will show and praise that the person has the ability to choose according to my prediction. Let's go back. I have a cross of 10 in my hand and I invite the person to point to a cross of 10, for example. He chooses a random card, perhaps a heart 9. Again, I wonder and praise ... and now I say that I will pick the third card myself and declare that I will choose a heart 9, but choose spades 2. Subsequently, I think about the cards and declare that it is not possible that the person would have such predictive selection skills. She forgets that the third choice wasn't her when you deal three cards (spades 2, cross 10, and heart 9). Success is great because it's about three combinations of maneuvers than just writing on a ticket, and it gives you the chance to make an immediate guess when a person accidentally picks your card in the first or second withdrawal, because the cards really are in my hand. This trick counts on plan "B" and is as trustworthy as possible.

    • @Sivos909
      @Sivos909 Před 4 lety +13

      What makes it work is based on the fact it's a mentalist magic trick. What you're doing is messing around with their memory. You're not just writing down the answer, you're telling them what to remember as you do the trick. So like with the first card, he said he was writing down the prediction to question 1 making sure the guy remembers the first card is going to be the prediction to question 1. And then this is repeated. Mentalism is playing with the mind. No slight of hand or illusions. Just honest lying and manipulating.

    Personally I'd take this trick beyond anyone's understanding, i'd use flexible screens. In fact I think some magicians have already used them (never seen anyone reveal those tricks and by searching for those, i found this video). Then you don't have to write anything, you just need an assistant and a remote microphone, so your assistant can hear what people say and then write it remotely.

      Frankly, I was sure it would be part of the trick - mentalism involves the "trick" of somehow suggesting the answers that are supposed to be randomly given - such a hat would be a perfect way of this ;) ("Now, name a body part" :D)

    Great video! I have been using this routine for years with various forces used including mathematical tricks leading to word from book, etc, and have always impressed people with it. I was so confused when you relieved the force first but it worked out anyway. :) Oops! I have always numbered them and folded the number inside. Then when I dumped out the glass full of billets I opened them only once to reveal the number of the prediction corresponding with the answer and lined them up on the table. These were written with #3 first but no one can see because they aren't quite sure what I'm doing yet, then #1 and then #2 obviously. When the see the numbers lined up it reinforces the idea that you were not doing one ahead just in case it ever crossed their minds. Don't call attention to it. It is visually self explanatory. I'm pretty sure the book I learned it from years ago wrote it out that way. I think your way, with the unnumbered billets, is good because you can't really get caught if someone got rowdy and tries to peak.

      You could also ask the spectator to repeat the questions in the order of you making the predictions. That way it will start with the numbers first, then the name, and then you can say: "I also made a (last) prediction of what you card was"
      So in practice you could for example say: I made a prediction and then asked you to name a number (do you remember?), then you reveal it. Or you have them ask the following question/prediction so you can reveal it in order (number first, then name, lastly the card). That way they have no idea that you went with a different prediction setup.

    Love this effect and principle. You can use it with a card trick as well. Shuffle the deck and show the spectators that everything is shuffled but you secretly look at the fourth from the bottom and remember it. Then tell a spectator to choose it (for instance 4 of clubs) and the card they actually pick is the ten of diamonds and then you tell the next spectator to take the ten of diamond and then they actually pick for instance ace of clubs then you say your going to pick it and pick the fourth card from the bottom. You can have as many cards chosen as you want. Ps like the new music
