    I have a G73 which I refer to as my 'Franken-Laptop'. My problems started with hinge failures (after one RMA, I decided to drill through the aluminum lid and attach with longer screws and nylon lock nuts. Yes, they make tiny nylon lock nuts. I had already purchased a keyboard (only) on Amazon. I have gently popped the plastic rivets on the stamped metal. My plan is to use strong adhesive tape on the keyboard sides (Gorilla makes a flashing product that is incredibly sticky. Then I will attach the metal piece with Gorilla doubled-sided mounting tape. It's a labor of love. Also, replacement laptops are so expensive now, anything I can do get more mileage worth small $ is worth it. Also, I repasted both the GPU and CPU because of heat issues. I think part of the problem with these thin gamers is that they are too focused on making them look sexy. Their really is not enough air volume in them to keep them cool when the graphics card is running.

    Very helpful video, thank you. I am a beginner and have a couple of questions: 1- I know that the yellow band on your wrist is for static. Is it an absolute must e.g. if I want to change the HDD to an SSD? 2- What if I prefer not to dissemble the hinge at the beginning?

    Then in 2019 i changed the battery and boom smoke came out from the connector. Motherboard died..... since then it stayed on shelf while i built a computer. Now i need a laptop for portability and light gaming. So... i want to get a new Motherboard which i found for 350£. My question is: should i get another battery or should i keep it without one.

    I have a urgent question after seeing this video. What causes the battery charge status to show 100% but when the power supply is unplugged, the laptop immediately dies? I've tried resetting the cmos and replacing the main battery. If the battery isn't fully discharged it will charge it back up and behave alright, but if it's completely dead, it will still show 100% charge status while plugged into the charger and immediately die again when unplugging the charger despite showing 100% battery charge status. It then refuses to recharge the battery again, yet it shows 100% charge status. I've replaced the battery several times and it works OK untiI I let it sit just once for several days or weeks (completely powered down) until fully discharged. It then all over again refuses to charge the battery back up while showing 100% charge status. When I try to perform a battery calibration it immediately shuts down when switching over to battery draw test mode, so that also doesn't work. Please give me any advice you have on this. I spent so much on this laptop and have alot of important software married to it, so it needs to work. No one has any answers on this other than replacing the battery which I did several times now. I'm ready to jump off a cliff with this thing in my arms. Please help!

    From my experience with this computer, it has turned into a big expensive paperweight. It turns randomly when it wants to. If the laptop is slightly moved it turns off. I have to leave the power cord on the laptop computer. I have backup portable hard drives, that I don't want to be screwed up. My 16GB USB Media drive for Windows 10 crashed it is not working it is not being picked up by Windows 10. The light still flashes on the 16GB USB Media Drive for Windows 10.

      You can at least remove the bottom cover to see if the battery connector is loose or other hardware issues. If its connected you may have a bad battery and the DC jack is loose enough to cut power when moved.

    My fan on the right side (the single fan) has started making a really loud buzzing. I removed the backplate and sprayed some air in the fan and some dust came out, however, the noise persists. Any ideas? Thanks!

    • @Maxwell74600
      @Maxwell74600 Před 3 lety +3

      Ok so first thing you need to know is what you done is not enough: you need to completely remove the fans as he is doing at 9:48 . Don't hesitate to wiggle the thing once you have removed the screws, it is the dried thermal paste that is holding the thing together, you won't break anything. Then you will need to actually open the fan cases and you will realize what you've done is pointless, because all the dust is in there. There are plenty of tutorials for fan cleaning and repaste, check it out.
      I had the exact same problem as you with the very loud screeching sound coming from one of the fans that makes your whole laptop vibrate like crazy. Unfortunately, it seems than there is no other solution (to my knowledge) than completely replacing the faulty fan. I tried to lubrificate my fan when it happened to me, but it didn't do shit (it worked for 1/2 hours and then screeched again). Whether it is the single or double fan it will costs you 25-30€. You will find plenty of those on Amazon, just type "msi gs63 fan" and select the right one. I already replaced my right fan two times and currently as I write I ordered the double left one because it started screeching as well (right after I changed the right one.... You can't make up that stuff. This shitty laptop drives me nuts) ! I bought my machine in 2017... The fans are shit on this model.
      So If i can give you one last advice: don't buy any gaming laptop again. They are tedious to maintain, impossible to upgrade, get used very fast and too fucking much expensive for what they are. Just build your own PC. I sure will do next time.

    I really wish I saw this disassembly videos before the 3 others, because yours is the only one that mentioned about the keyboard not being removable..... which I'm just now learning after having already bought a replacement keyboard, thinking I could just install it. I love MSi and all, but damn, this is such a thoughtless design to have the keyboard literally riveted to the damn thing. Why isn't it just screwed in like literally everything else?

    • @zNoah
      @zNoah Před rokem

      It's a common design unfortunately, most of the modern laptops are like that.
      Another option you can try is glueing the keyboard to the top case.

      It can be detached, it's the reattaching that becomes a problem since after you break the plastic rivets holding the backing plate, you need to find some way to get it to hold in place again. You may want to buy the palmrest as a complete assembly.
