I know this video is a bit old but helped me understand why the sunroof shop told me the entire assembly on my F150 needs replacing and not just the tracks. After watching this and your 3 part video on replacing the rack assembly I can see why it costs a lot. The new assembly is expensive and a lot of labor involved. But it's more than I felt I could do at my age and with no garage to work in. $2800 parts and labor, ouch. I had to remind myself that in 7 years (2017 truck) I have only replaced tires, brakes and a water pump so not too bad.
@@ChrisSummers there has been a definite evolution of the repairs that are required for these. Some of the earlier 2019s still can get just the upper guide arms because they already have the upgraded lower guides. But pretty much everything from 15 up until that point, if they are breaking now they're going to have to have everything.
It would be awesome if you had a video on replacing the entire frame. I did the arm repair a couple years ago but I went to open the moonroof today, heard painful crunching and upon investigation the plastic pieces at the end of the actuators ripped right off the metal piece with the rods.

I just found your channel. You make great videos at explaining things. I have a 2015 F150, the dealer replaced the sun roof guides in 2021 when I bought this truck and the warranty for that repair has expired they said. Now the sunroof will not open. They looked at it said guides are broken and it looks like is cocked/crooked. I going to follow your videos and inspect mine to see what is broken and do the repair myself. I also just watched your video showing how to lubricate it which I did not know to do. Do you have a video or recommendations on cleaning the drains? I want to clean them while I'm at it.
I don't have a video about the drain tubes, but they are pretty much like any other cars drain tubes. If yours flow already, what I would do would be run some detergent of some type down them let it sit for a minute and then flush it out with water. Windshield washing fluid works great.
Thanks for the video! It answered many questions that I had. After watching, I now know that my track is junk and will be replaced. When I put the new one in, do the motors have to be installed a specific way or will they just adapt and work? Reason I'm asking is that one of the old cable arms broke apart and I assume it causes the motors to be out of sync.
Great video! Sadly, I have the broken track situation with the exact same part you pulled out in the video. Once I fished it out the roof seems to work for now. I’ve lubed up the seals with silicon paste so suspect it’s only a matter of time before it fails again. Would be great to see the track replacement that you mention during this video! Cn
I am going to make one as soon as I can. I need to have a weekend replacement where I can devote a few hours to filming and actually doing the job. Can't really do it at a dealership because I'm usually hustling to get it done and get to the next dealer. But I'm set up and ready, just need a test subject, lol
@@SealofPerfection My arm completely broke off the cable mechanism that moves it forward and backward so now I am in the track replacement club. I see rivets in there and it looks complicated so my sunroof will be permanently closed until you find a test subject and post a video.
@@jaredbrown5857 The only rivets to deal with are the 2 that hold in the deflector. Everything else is screws and bolts. I know I keep saying I'm going to do a video, but I really need to get one on a weekend so I have time to film and take my time. There is one on YT done on a F-250, and there isn't a lot of difference in the two jobs, though.

I just stumbled on your channel last night and you have the best f150 leak videos out there. I’m trying to determine where my truck is leaking because it smells like mildew after a rain. I checked the vents behind the rear seats today and they were good. I peeled back the carpet on passenger side and it was damp near the door edge. I removed all my door panels and none of the splash guards were completely sealed so I fixed those. I assume they were pulled off when the dealer serviced the actuators for a recall. Now go my biggest issue that I’ve not been able to solve. My sunroof leaks. Water will drip from my overhead console after a hard rain. I think water is leaking through the magnetic headliner plates that are riveted into the drain channels. The water then stays in the headliner and finds the lowest point, whether that’s down the back or to the front depending on the slope I’m parked on. Do you have any suggestions based on your experience with these pano roofs?
Water should never be in the part of the track where those plates are. I've seen someone else seal them off as a fix, but it's really a patch. The real issue is, how is water getting in there to begin with. There are several things that can do this. The sunroof seal can be the issue. That's an expensive fix, as the seal is currently only available with a new glass. The rear trough can be an issue (the plastic one in the middle), as the 2 foam strips can and do "move around" some, and they shrink. The glass itself can leak. Really the frame the glass is mounted on. It's glued to the metal frame just like a windshield would be to the body. That can fail, and you'll get water where it's not supposed to be. Again, only fix is to replace it, which will give you a new seal as well. Drains can cause it, they don't have to be totally blocked up, they can just be restricted a bit and this can cause it. They should audibly slurp when you test them. And something as simple as the sunroof adjustment can be the issue as well. If it comes out the overhead console buttons, usually the new glass/seal fixes that if everything else checks okay.
@@nathanborghi8709 not really. I usually just resort to that when everything else is checked good and it still leaks, usually in very long or heavy rains.
@@mikeferretti7422 there's really no way to tell unless you do the cable guides and they don't work. Unless the track itself is terribly damaged such as maybe the cables came out around the motors or something and are hanging out.
Great video. I'm about to order a new F-150 and the moon roof option was a no brainer for me. Must have it. But do they all leak or cause problems? Has it been fixed for 2023? I ordered a new F-150 in 2006 and the sunroof has been opened about a million times since then (estimated of course). Step 1 is to start the truck. Step 2 is to open the sunroof. No leaks or problems in 16 years. Would you order the moon roof on a new truck or pass? I don't really want to know the answer to this question but need to ask.
I have a broken 2017 F150 as well. The cable drive has broken free of the lift arm. In looking around, I see that cables with attached lift arms are available as replacement parts. Have you done a video on replacing the cable and lift arm? You mention in this video about replacing the lower track. It seems that replacing the cable and lift arm would be sufficient.
I have not done that as of yet. My main supplier does not have those available yet although I do see some eBay and Amazon people have them. I kind of want to buy some and try them. But I know the rebuild kits for the 14 and older trucks, those Amazon and eBay kits are kind of sketchy. I tried some of those and was not super pleased with them. I'm leery of doing all that work and having the parts not be up to Snuff. That said, I'm thinking about buying a set in building one of the broken tracks I have here in my garage anyway just to see how it goes. When I do I will make a video on it for sure
Whole track? Dealer. Or online sellers. You can now get the lower cable guides, which previously only came in a complete new track. I have a video on how to install them, too.

Okay I see your other comment you said you have a cable that's broken loose? If so you can possibly replace the cables, but the only thing available are aftermarket ones and sometimes they work.... and sometimes they don't. There's not really any way to tell other than to try it. You're only other choice is to replace the whole track as an assembly. I have videos on how to do that as well

Great videos! My 2018 F250 moonroof failed yesterday. I rarely use it, but decided to open it yesterday. The shade got halfway back and I heard a loud pop as a piece of plastic broke. Now the shade is halfway back, will fully retract and can come back to halfway but nothing else works. Fortunately (?) the glass is fully closed, but won't vent or open. Your video on removing the glass shows how to remove it from the vented position. Can I get the glass off if it won't vent?
You can get the glass off if it's not vented. You just can't get this arms that need repair out if that's all that's wrong with it the shade is only closing halfway because it thinks the glass is partially open. Which it probably is even if it's mostly closed. I have a video on how to manually move the guides Linked In the description. You can use that to move it to tilt position after you pull the glass out. And then inspect the pieces that are broken. I have a video also in the description about which pieces are which. So you can determine what repair you need
What can you tell me about 2003 F-150 SuperCrew moonroof? When closing it, it wouldn't raise back up into place, so I had to put some temporary wedges in at the back on both sides to lift it up flush to seal. Thank you!
They have the same guts as all the tracks do through 2014. They break a lot and you can buy rebuild kits from the sunroof doctor. I have a set of videos on how to take the track out and rebuild it. It's on a newer truck but there won't be very many differences
Evening, Im helping a friend with his 2018 Ford Expedition with the panoramicVista roof. Replaced the cables and lifter mechanism from a new repair unit he purchased from Ford. Problem is the battery went dead, almost 8 months outside of its life. Put a trickle charger on it and it started but before I try to program the sunroof, I noticed that only one running board is open and not retracting back as well as the windows are non - operative. Any experience with these electrical beast doing this? All interior lights are working fine. Did not want to risk operating the panoramic rood until I figy=ured out what was causing these other oddities. Thanks
I can't tell you the exact cause but I have seen that happen a few times. Sometimes you can just disconnect the battery and let the whole thing reboot just like a computer and they will start back working. They're also might be a way to program them if you look in the owner's manual but I'm not certain of that, sorry
Thanks for all of these vids. My moonroof was stuck in open position. Wouldn't close more than 2". Tried the reset etc. but just closes 2" from open and "clicks" and opens again. So total travel is 2". Using your vids I managed to get my roof glass out which wasn't easy being stuck open. But my question is; how do I get the rails to closed position so I can continue on with the diagnostics/ repairs? Your reset video talks about that, maybe it'll close, but mine does not. Appreciate any suggestions or maybe links to videos I've missed.
Try the one that I have for dropping the motor and moving the guides manually. You can put them in any position you want with that method. It's in the description also
@@derekw8612 also check the one I have that demonstrates which pieces are which that you fish out of there. You need to check your broken pieces and make sure what exactly is broken. I have a video that shows you how also in the description.
@@SealofPerfection Thanks again! I fished a piece out of the passenger side but driver's was nothing visible, and I finally got it closed and fixed! Well at least sealed up, first sunny day to hit it again. All roof glass was out today. It was jammed bad on driver's side had to bang the rails/ramps/guides with a wood block and a piece of "something" kept jamming it up and it would not show itself other than peeking up when jamming. It would just "lift" into the rails/ramps/guides slot and jam it up. Finally working it back and forth i was able to get it all forward, which I've learned from you is necessary to replace the r/r/g. Of course! Lol. It's sealed now thanks to you and let me know where to send the beer money. When I remember I fire up more of your vids on autoplay and let the ads run. @@derekw8612 Glad you got it closed. Probably the lower guides gone bad, for it to be that stuck, which would require the entire track replacement, unfortunately. But at least it's shut. I'd probably reach back in the headliner and unplug one of the motors so nobody can accidentally try to open it and screw up all your hard work. Either one being unplugged will disable both the glass and the shade.
I have watched ALL your videos regarding the 2017 F350. I have the panoramic vista roof and CANNOT figure out how to get the tracks to "vent". Mine were stuck in the down position and would not move. Then gradually, it sank slightly and caused condensation to form inside the windshield and I could hear road noise. So, I ordered upper arms from Sunroof Doctor, removed EVERYTHING in my truck (seat, headliner, etc) and cannot finger out the guides to go back in. Speaking with Rick at Sunroof Doctor, they are easy to install.....IF they are in the vented position. With mine not being able to "vent", I am finding it very difficult to get them back in. Hopefully you can shed some direction on this.....
This video really helps but do you have a video or know where to find a video that shows how to replace the rails or the whole frame, my truck unfortunately is apart of the 1% and the lower cable guide is broken just as you described it….PLEASE HELP
How hard is the frame replacement? Used your videos to find out that my issue isn't the guide arms but the lower track. Is it a job you'd recommend a professional do or can I do it at home with some effort?
They are easy for me, but were very hard when I started doing them. It would be a big job for anyone who hasn't done one before. I don't have a video of doing one yet, but there is one on YT of someone doing an F-250, and there is very little difference in the 2 jobs. You might check it out and see what you think, don't have a link though. I am going to make one whenever I get the chance. Was wanting to do a detailed, comprehensive one, but it's hard without someone else to video it. Might do a condensed one pretty soon, though.

No, for just the arms you can get them separately. FL3Z 1651070 E is the part number. Latest and greatest revision. I've not seen any of these fail so far, and they've been out since fall of 2019

Yep, this is exactly what just happened to my 2018 raptor. I replaced the arm (also broken) and was able to get it to close, but won’t open as that exact part is broken off so the sunroof can’t retract. Would be great if you could make a video on the full frame replacement @pacfanweb
I have half of it made. Got the removal part, which I guess could be reversed for the re-installation. But the parts swap over, for the shade, motors, deflector, etc, that part isn't good, and I have nothing for the reinstallation other than "put it back in the way it came out". It's tough to do one by myself, need someone to be with me the whole time to video it. Thinking of putting the removal one up just so folks would at least have that much, though
Any reason Ford is not doing a recall on these? It seems that a lot of people are running into this problem. I've had both Chevy and Honda cars/trucks with moonroofs and never ran into anything like this.

Unlikely you need 2200 in parts. For the 15-17's, the parts book says when you replace the track you also need the updated motors. (shade and glass motors) You don't. You can just reuse the ones you have if they still work. That's what we did before they came out with the updated motors, and I still reuse old motors a couple times a month just to save folks money. All you need is the track assy. You transfer over the deflector, drip tray, motors, and shade. I do not have a video on how to do this as of yet. I am hoping to make one this year when the weather is better.

I just put that exact track into a truck last Thursday. That was a 2017 and there is no difference, they all take the same track until about sometime in 2018 when they changed slightly. I am obviously not at a dealership right at the moment since it's a Sunday, but I do believe that track number is the right one for your truck.
My tracks broke on mine and then the cables for the passenger side decided to curl up at the motor. Very odd situation. The wire is kinked and unusable . I see you can buy similar cables , can the lower guide slide out toward the front so i could attach another cable?
Never tried that. I've seen the cables kinked up plenty of times. I would be concerned about the tunnel that they go through being damaged if they are kinked up
@@SealofPerfection it was right at the motor, tunnels should not be affected at all. It curled up around 8 inches above the motor area. I might see if I can remove the lower piece toward the front with the cable attached.
Dealer or an online vendor that sells OEM parts. At this time, nobody makes and aftermarket frame. The rails, or upper guide arms, can be bought many places, but if you have the bad piece broken, they aren't what you need. A new frame will come with the new arms as well.

I got both rails off but cant get the roof on the vent position so i can replace the rails. The forward button is the only one that will work. The motor is louder the usual when i activate it. Is it possible that the cables broke lose from the motor? Im at a loss? Thanks
It is possible but it is more likely that there is a broken piece of the rails in their jamming the lower guides up. If you look in the description, I have a video on how to manually align the lower guys. You can also use that to manually place it in the vent position
@Pacfanweb I'm assuming that's where I loosen the motor, drop the headliner and pull the guides forward. I got it to initialize after several tries and got the arms to work but the arms are not synchronized. I think I'll install the new rails and see if I can get the arms and rails to move together. If not I think I need to do what you did with the motor which in all honesty doesn't sit well with me and Ford!
@Pacfanweb thank you for your help. One question, by loosening up the motor, what is happening mechanically at the motor to release tension on the cables? You videos are the best on you tube in my opinion. I think I have the worst case senerio 🤣
@@BenOH5500 the motor has a gear on it that moves each cable. As long as the gear is engaged with the cables, neither of them can move. When you drop the motor they can now move freely. What happens when one side brakes is sometimes the motor will just jump teeth on one cable while it is still moving the other cable, that's how they get out of sync. There's usually a pretty good grinding noise when that happens

Nope, if you only need the drip tray, or trough, or drain as Ford's parts book calls it, you can put it in by just removing the front glass. Easy. And buy one for a 21 or newer. They're less the half the price but the exact same part. I've done it. They work.

Question, I just removed my glass, removed a couple of tiny broken pieces (like the first you showed but smaller) and made the sunroof open, it opens with no problems, but when I close it (still no glass on, just testing) and it gets to the end on the track, it opens automatically again, so it won’t stay closed, should still just replace the upper guide arm? Do you know why it’s happening?
Without the glass it has no load on it. They're also still might be another piece that you are missing that is broken. If the mechanism is moving freely and just bouncing back, you may just need to reprogram it. I have a video on that in the description here, how to initialize/reset the sunroof motor. If there are no more broken parts in there that will likely fix it. But I would not do it until I put the glass back in

I don't think those parts are serviceable on that sunroof. I suppose if you have another sunroof and take yours out there may be a way to disassemble it, but it won't be easy like the trucks are. Usually on those we just replace the whole track
@@SealofPerfection I have the broken piece, but I think wrapping the small carriage to the hook piece with some thin wire will allow the glass to slide back and forth without issue. I may try it this weekend
@@lupe2008100 let me know how it goes. Just remember that that piece does the rear drain or trough back and forth so it needs to have a little bit of strength
I pulled my glass off today on my 18 vista and was ready to change the plastic/metal guide rails however under further inspection I noticed the piece you referred to as the cable operated lift arm is no longer connected to the cable and the actual cable is completely gone I assume has been retracted into the motor but the right side is still connected. I was wondering if there’s anything I can do to attempt to retrieve that cable or will I need to end up ordering a new assembly.
@@SealofPerfection yes the passenger side I can just push it any way I want while the driver side I can visibility still see the cable and it’s under tension
@@SealofPerfection when I go fast enough down highway you can hear the wind push that side of the glass into the cab and air rush in. Despite it being in close position
@@PlattyZach Okay, that sounds like bad news. You should not be able to move that piece unless you dropped the motor. You could try having the glass out and pushing the "close" button and see if the cable gets pushed back there. Otherwise, it's going to be tough to make the upper piece stay in place so the glass can stay shut

@@billlord6932 Absolutely, I've put in several hundred of them. I am putting in one right now at a dealership. The entire track. Big giant box. 2017 and down the parts book tells you you have to replace the motors as well, but that's not necessary if they still work. This one is a 2018 F150. The part number on the box is: FL3Z-16502C22-E I can't tell you if it's the same one for yours, but the dealer can. They have to use your VIN probably to be sure

I don't have a video about the drain tubes, but they are pretty much like any other cars drain tubes. If yours flow already, what I would do would be run some detergent of some type down them let it sit for a minute and then flush it out with water. Windshield washing fluid works great.
Thanks for the video! It answered many questions that I had. After watching, I now know that my track is junk and will be replaced. When I put the new one in, do the motors have to be installed a specific way or will they just adapt and work? Reason I'm asking is that one of the old cable arms broke apart and I assume it causes the motors to be out of sync.
You have to reprogram or reinitialize them. I have a video in the description that tells you how to do that.
Great video! Sadly, I have the broken track situation with the exact same part you pulled out in the video. Once I fished it out the roof seems to work for now. I’ve lubed up the seals with silicon paste so suspect it’s only a matter of time before it fails again. Would be great to see the track replacement that you mention during this video! Cn
I am going to make one as soon as I can. I need to have a weekend replacement where I can devote a few hours to filming and actually doing the job. Can't really do it at a dealership because I'm usually hustling to get it done and get to the next dealer. But I'm set up and ready, just need a test subject, lol
@@SealofPerfection My arm completely broke off the cable mechanism that moves it forward and backward so now I am in the track replacement club. I see rivets in there and it looks complicated so my sunroof will be permanently closed until you find a test subject and post a video.
@@jaredbrown5857 The only rivets to deal with are the 2 that hold in the deflector. Everything else is screws and bolts.
I know I keep saying I'm going to do a video, but I really need to get one on a weekend so I have time to film and take my time.

I just stumbled on your channel last night and you have the best f150 leak videos out there. I’m trying to determine where my truck is leaking because it smells like mildew after a rain. I checked the vents behind the rear seats today and they were good. I peeled back the carpet on passenger side and it was damp near the door edge. I removed all my door panels and none of the splash guards were completely sealed so I fixed those. I assume they were pulled off when the dealer serviced the actuators for a recall. Now go my biggest issue that I’ve not been able to solve. My sunroof leaks. Water will drip from my overhead console after a hard rain. I think water is leaking through the magnetic headliner plates that are riveted into the drain channels. The water then stays in the headliner and finds the lowest point, whether that’s down the back or to the front depending on the slope I’m parked on. Do you have any suggestions based on your experience with these pano roofs?
Water should never be in the part of the track where those plates are. I've seen someone else seal them off as a fix, but it's really a patch. The real issue is, how is water getting in there to begin with.
There are several things that can do this. The sunroof seal can be the issue. That's an expensive fix, as the seal is currently only available with a new glass.
The rear trough can be an issue (the plastic one in the middle), as the 2 foam strips can and do "move around" some, and they shrink.
The glass itself can leak. Really the frame the glass is mounted on. It's glued to the metal frame just like a windshield would be to the body. That can fail, and you'll get water where it's not supposed to be. Again, only fix is to replace it, which will give you a new seal as well.
Drains can cause it, they don't have to be totally blocked up, they can just be restricted a bit and this can cause it. They should audibly slurp when you test them.
And something as simple as the sunroof adjustment can be the issue as well.
If it comes out the overhead console buttons, usually the new glass/seal fixes that if everything else checks okay.

Unless the track itself is terribly damaged such as maybe the cables came out around the motors or something and are hanging out.
Great video. I'm about to order a new F-150 and the moon roof option was a no brainer for me. Must have it. But do they all leak or cause problems? Has it been fixed for 2023? I ordered a new F-150 in 2006 and the sunroof has been opened about a million times since then (estimated of course). Step 1 is to start the truck. Step 2 is to open the sunroof. No leaks or problems in 16 years. Would you order the moon roof on a new truck or pass? I don't really want to know the answer to this question but need to ask.
They have made some changes to the track and I have not seen any of the new ones break so far. The change occurred in early 2019 I believe

I have a broken 2017 F150 as well. The cable drive has broken free of the lift arm. In looking around, I see that cables with attached lift arms are available as replacement parts. Have you done a video on replacing the cable and lift arm? You mention in this video about replacing the lower track. It seems that replacing the cable and lift arm would be sufficient.
I have not done that as of yet. My main supplier does not have those available yet although I do see some eBay and Amazon people have them.
I kind of want to buy some and try them. But I know the rebuild kits for the 14 and older trucks, those Amazon and eBay kits are kind of sketchy. I tried some of those and was not super pleased with them.
I'm leery of doing all that work and having the parts not be up to Snuff. That said, I'm thinking about buying a set in building one of the broken tracks I have here in my garage anyway just to see how it goes. When I do I will make a video on it for sure

Okay I see your other comment you said you have a cable that's broken loose?
If so you can possibly replace the cables, but the only thing available are aftermarket ones and sometimes they work.... and sometimes they don't.
There's not really any way to tell other than to try it. You're only other choice is to replace the whole track as an assembly. I have videos on how to do that as well

Great videos! My 2018 F250 moonroof failed yesterday. I rarely use it, but decided to open it yesterday. The shade got halfway back and I heard a loud pop as a piece of plastic broke. Now the shade is halfway back, will fully retract and can come back to halfway but nothing else works. Fortunately (?) the glass is fully closed, but won't vent or open. Your video on removing the glass shows how to remove it from the vented position. Can I get the glass off if it won't vent?
You can get the glass off if it's not vented. You just can't get this arms that need repair out if that's all that's wrong with it the shade is only closing halfway because it thinks the glass is partially open. Which it probably is even if it's mostly closed. I have a video on how to manually move the guides Linked In the description. You can use that to move it to tilt position after you pull the glass out. And then inspect the pieces that are broken. I have a video also in the description about which pieces are which. So you can determine what repair you need

What can you tell me about 2003 F-150 SuperCrew moonroof? When closing it, it wouldn't raise back up into place, so I had to put some temporary wedges in at the back on both sides to lift it up flush to seal. Thank you!
They have the same guts as all the tracks do through 2014. They break a lot and you can buy rebuild kits from the sunroof doctor. I have a set of videos on how to take the track out and rebuild it. It's on a newer truck but there won't be very many differences

Evening, Im helping a friend with his 2018 Ford Expedition with the panoramicVista roof.
Replaced the cables and lifter mechanism from a new repair unit he purchased from Ford.
Problem is the battery went dead, almost 8 months outside of its life. Put a trickle charger on it and it started but before I try to program the sunroof, I noticed that only one running board is open and not retracting back as well as the windows are non - operative.
Any experience with these electrical beast doing this? All interior lights are working fine.
Did not want to risk operating the panoramic rood until I figy=ured out what was causing these other oddities.

I can't tell you the exact cause but I have seen that happen a few times. Sometimes you can just disconnect the battery and let the whole thing reboot just like a computer and they will start back working. They're also might be a way to program them if you look in the owner's manual but I'm not certain of that, sorry

Thanks for all of these vids. My moonroof was stuck in open position. Wouldn't close more than 2". Tried the reset etc. but just closes 2" from open and "clicks" and opens again. So total travel is 2". Using your vids I managed to get my roof glass out which wasn't easy being stuck open. But my question is; how do I get the rails to closed position so I can continue on with the diagnostics/ repairs?
Your reset video talks about that, maybe it'll close, but mine does not.

Try the one that I have for dropping the motor and moving the guides manually. You can put them in any position you want with that method. It's in the description also

@@SealofPerfection Thanks again! I fished a piece out of the passenger side but driver's was nothing visible, and I finally got it closed and fixed! Well at least sealed up, first sunny day to hit it again. All roof glass was out today.
It was jammed bad on driver's side had to bang the rails/ramps/guides with a wood block and a piece of "something" kept jamming it up and it would not show itself other than peeking up when jamming. It would just "lift" into the rails/ramps/guides slot and jam it up. Finally working it back and forth i was able to get it all forward, which I've learned from you is necessary to replace the r/r/g. Of course! Lol.
It's sealed now thanks to you and let me know where to send the beer money. When I remember I fire up more of your vids on autoplay and let the ads run. Hope that helps as well, you deserve it.

@@derekw8612 Glad you got it closed. Probably the lower guides gone bad, for it to be that stuck, which would require the entire track replacement, unfortunately.
But at least it's shut. I'd probably reach back in the headliner and unplug one of the motors so nobody can accidentally try to open it and screw up all your hard work. Either one being unplugged will disable both the glass and the shade.
I have watched ALL your videos regarding the 2017 F350. I have the panoramic vista roof and CANNOT figure out how to get the tracks to "vent". Mine were stuck in the down position and would not move. Then gradually, it sank slightly and caused condensation to form inside the windshield and I could hear road noise. So, I ordered upper arms from Sunroof Doctor, removed EVERYTHING in my truck (seat, headliner, etc) and cannot finger out the guides to go back in. Speaking with Rick at Sunroof Doctor, they are easy to install.....IF they are in the vented position. With mine not being able to "vent", I am finding it very difficult to get them back in. Hopefully you can shed some direction on this.....

That's one way to do it. Some people are offering the lower guides with the cables now. It's a pretty big job, but the parts are not that expensive
How hard is the frame replacement? Used your videos to find out that my issue isn't the guide arms but the lower track. Is it a job you'd recommend a professional do or can I do it at home with some effort?
They are easy for me, but were very hard when I started doing them. It would be a big job for anyone who hasn't done one before.

Yep, this is exactly what just happened to my 2018 raptor. I replaced the arm (also broken) and was able to get it to close, but won’t open as that exact part is broken off so the sunroof can’t retract. Would be great if you could make a video on the full frame replacement @pacfanweb
I have half of it made. Got the removal part, which I guess could be reversed for the re-installation.
But the parts swap over, for the shade, motors, deflector, etc, that part isn't good, and I have nothing for the reinstallation other than "put it back in the way it came out".
It's tough to do one by myself, need someone to be with me the whole time to video it.

No idea, I would assume because it's not a safety or emissions issue, it's a convenience thing.

Unfortunately you can't replace the cable. That only comes with the track assembly.
When you talk about needing a track assembly, are you referring to a sunroof frame? And if so, what website do you recommend I get one from? All I can find is one through ford

And yes, the track, Ford calls it the frame.

Unlikely you need 2200 in parts. For the 15-17's, the parts book says when you replace the track you also need the updated motors. (shade and glass motors)
You don't. You can just reuse the ones you have if they still work. That's what we did before they came out with the updated motors, and I still reuse old motors a couple times a month just to save folks money.
All you need is the track assy. You transfer over the deflector, drip tray, motors, and shade.
I do not have a video on how to do this as of yet. I am hoping to make one this year when the weather is better.

I just put that exact track into a truck last Thursday. That was a 2017 and there is no difference, they all take the same track until about sometime in 2018 when they changed slightly.
I am obviously not at a dealership right at the moment since it's a Sunday, but I do believe that track number is the right one for your truck.

Yes, typically. You can use the video I have to manually align the guide, and just put them in "closed" position.
My tracks broke on mine and then the cables for the passenger side decided to curl up at the motor. Very odd situation. The wire is kinked and unusable . I see you can buy similar cables , can the lower guide slide out toward the front so i could attach another cable?
Never tried that. I've seen the cables kinked up plenty of times. I would be concerned about the tunnel that they go through being damaged if they are kinked up
@@SealofPerfection it was right at the motor, tunnels should not be affected at all. It curled up around 8 inches above the motor area. I might see if I can remove the lower piece toward the front with the cable attached.

Dealer or an online vendor that sells OEM parts. At this time, nobody makes and aftermarket frame.
The rails, or upper guide arms, can be bought many places, but if you have the bad piece broken, they aren't what you need. A new frame will come with the new arms as well.

I got both rails off but cant get the roof on the vent position so i can replace the rails. The forward button is the only one that will work. The motor is louder the usual when i activate it. Is it possible that the cables broke lose from the motor? Im at a loss?

It is possible but it is more likely that there is a broken piece of the rails in their jamming the lower guides up.
If you look in the description, I have a video on how to manually align the lower guys. You can also use that to manually place it in the vent position
@Pacfanweb I'm assuming that's where I loosen the motor, drop the headliner and pull the guides forward.
I got it to initialize after several tries and got the arms to work but the arms are not synchronized. I think I'll install the new rails and see if I can get the arms and rails to move together. If not I think I need to do what you did with the motor which in all honesty doesn't sit well with me and Ford!

@@BenOH5500 the motor has a gear on it that moves each cable.
As long as the gear is engaged with the cables, neither of them can move. When you drop the motor they can now move freely. What happens when one side brakes is sometimes the motor will just jump teeth on one cable while it is still moving the other cable, that's how they get out of sync.
There's usually a pretty good grinding noise when that happens

Nope, if you only need the drip tray, or trough, or drain as Ford's parts book calls it, you can put it in by just removing the front glass. Easy.
And buy one for a 21 or newer. They're less the half the price but the exact same part.

Question, I just removed my glass, removed a couple of tiny broken pieces (like the first you showed but smaller) and made the sunroof open, it opens with no problems, but when I close it (still no glass on, just testing) and it gets to the end on the track, it opens automatically again, so it won’t stay closed, should still just replace the upper guide arm? Do you know why it’s happening?
Without the glass it has no load on it. They're also still might be another piece that you are missing that is broken. If the mechanism is moving freely and just bouncing back, you may just need to reprogram it. I have a video on that in the description here, how to initialize/reset the sunroof motor. If there are no more broken parts in there that will likely fix it. But I would not do it until I put the glass back in

I don't think those parts are serviceable on that sunroof. I suppose if you have another sunroof and take yours out there may be a way to disassemble it, but it won't be easy like the trucks are. Usually on those we just replace the whole track

I don't know of one. I'm eventually going to make one, but that's going to be a pretty long video and I will have to have somebody to film for me
I’m thinking there may be a way to Jerry rig it so that the hook gets pulled by the carriage even if the plastic rail piece broke.

@@SealofPerfection I have the broken piece, but I think wrapping the small carriage to the hook piece with some thin wire will allow the glass to slide back and forth without issue. I may try it this weekend
@@lupe2008100 let me know how it goes. Just remember that that piece does the rear drain or trough back and forth so it needs to have a little bit of strength
I pulled my glass off today on my 18 vista and was ready to change the plastic/metal guide rails however under further inspection I noticed the piece you referred to as the cable operated lift arm is no longer connected to the cable and the actual cable is completely gone I assume has been retracted into the motor but the right side is still connected. I was wondering if there’s anything I can do to attempt to retrieve that cable or will I need to end up ordering a new assembly.
So does it just move around freely?
@@SealofPerfection yes the passenger side I can just push it any way I want while the driver side I can visibility still see the cable and it’s under tension
@@SealofPerfection when I go fast enough down highway you can hear the wind push that side of the glass into the cab and air rush in. Despite it being in close position
@@PlattyZach Okay, that sounds like bad news. You should not be able to move that piece unless you dropped the motor.
You could try having the glass out and pushing the "close" button and see if the cable gets pushed back there.
Otherwise, it's going to be tough to make the upper piece stay in place so the glass can stay shut
@@SealofPerfection yeah kinda out of options at this point. I’ll have to pull glass again and see if I can’t get the cable to come around but if not I guess I’m gonna have to bite the bullet and buy the assembly.
When you drop the motor out is there any access to move the cables manually ?

That number is good through 2017 for sure. Probably some early 2018s, but there's a cutoff in there somewhere

FL3Z-16502C22-E up through early 2018, I think. Sometime in 2018, they changed it and that one won't work.

Start with a dealership. Prices vary. Give them your VIN and get their price and the part number, then check online.

@@SealofPerfection have you ran into the instance where you have buy the whole assembly? A couple ford dealers said they dont sell just the track, just a total repair kit .
@@billlord6932 Absolutely, I've put in several hundred of them. I am putting in one right now at a dealership.
The entire track. Big giant box. 2017 and down the parts book tells you you have to replace the motors as well, but that's not necessary if they still work.
This one is a 2018 F150. The part number on the box is: FL3Z-16502C22-E
I can't tell you if it's the same one for yours, but the dealer can. They have to use your VIN probably to be sure
@@SealofPerfection ah okay. I wasnt sure if they sold just the track or not. I thought because they sell the arms seperately it would be the same. Mines a 2017 so ill have to look into that for sure
