Great video! I've had duct tape around the edges of my roof for almost a week now cause I couldn't get it closed one night. No time to diagnose since I was in middle of a shutdown. At least now I'll be able to get it closed properly until I have the to order parts. Thank you for sharing. And also, I respect your professionalism and work ethics, it's great that you take measures to preserve your customers' interior
This was helpful. My '11 started "Cracking" and was stuck trying to close one side with the other not quite there. Popped out the 4 screws for the glass, cleaned the track and lined it up so at least I won't leak water. Looks like a full replacement in the future. Amazing how tiny the broken parts are. Thank you! at least now my sunroof is closed.
Mine broke tonight, i heard a pop when I foolishly tried to open it. Now only one side closes all the way. However, I now feel confident I can at least get it closed tomorrow. I hit the like button and subscribed, thanks again!
Thumbs up! Thanks for the video, my roof broke like this this week and it was a bear to get it to close and seal up. Now time to get it fixed since the truck is under warranty . . .
Thanks - I've purchase many new Ford F150 trucks since the early 90's. Three of them have had the roof issue with the panoramic roof. And to our point they always have had a third party come in to replace the track. The track is made of cheap material. Ford knows it and continues to build them. JUNK
Great job! Thanks for posting. If you have time I'm going to leave my issue explanation here and check back to see if you have responded. My 2016 F150 Lariat FX4 with sun roof sliding fabric screen began to wrinkle badly so I took it in to Kendall Ford here near Boise. It was this way from the factory and it was under warranty. They destroyed it. After 5 return trips within 6 weeks, to include a broken rail assembly, broken headliner, torn fabric, and other problems they finally got it back to me but there is now a rattle. I took it to another dealership in the area and they located the rattle source. They state that the foam blocks that are supposed to be near the rear up behind the headliner to keep the slack in the headliner from banging up against the roof are missing. Apparently these blocks create slight tension on the headliner and come with all new headliners but are missing. Either Kendall took them off, or the factory never included them in the package. The person actually moved and rattled the headliner to recreate the sound and it was spot on the sound I was hearing. In addition to this issue when I went to see the problem and pick up the truck I had them test the moonroof operation and guess what? No worky. The fabric screen began to open ok but quickly wrinkled as it opened fully. Then the roof opened but wouldn't close. It bounced open at the last second (1 or 2 inches from closing) indicating that something was blocking it. It then popped as if something jammed it in the track but continued to open. Same on closing. Closing motion works initially then POP! and bounces back. Then a high pitch screech sound can be heard when closing the fabric screen. I suspect it needs lubrication and maybe that metal on metal friction is causing the fabric to bind and twist. Question 1) Does this foam block explanation sound accurate? Question 2) Can this be fixed by carefully adding some low expansion spray weatherstripping foam in a couple of dabs from the rear or even the rear edge looking back towards the truck bed? Question 3) Should I try to pull down the rear of the headliner and add in some right sized foam blocks to take up the slack? Anxious to hear your thoughts...and agree with your views on Pedo Biden the Perv. Now let's see what secret docs he's hiding and why.
Honestly I don't think you should do anything I think you should ask them to install an entire new assembly I think they screwed it up and it's never going to be right and they need to have a specialist come in and do it

Thank you. Always enjoy the information. Can you let me know what type of shop is considered a Professional Sunroof company and a general cost to repair this at a Ford shop?
I don't really know what shop you would look into or find we just found a guy that does professional mobile repair for sunroofs so you might have to look into different glass companies for automotive and ask them who they recommend
My 2017 F250 panoramic roof just broke. Wouldn’t close but 80 percent the retracted back. I heard you can buy them arms at sunroof doctor. I guess it’s a common issue. I have to fix mine. Ford wants 1746 for track assembly.
Great video. Another video that would be good is a video on lubing the seals and or track if you get one in. On the first of every month I use a silicon lube on the seals of my sunroof. By keeping the seals lubed (not sticking) it might help prevent too much stress on the sunroof when you go to open it and might help prevent breaking the track. It is sad that they use plastic parts like this....
@@FordBossMe Nice, you beat me to it. I am a new subscriber so still working my way through your videos. Like I said before great work!!! The guide you mentioned is the one that I used when going over the process. Too bad you are so far from me or I would be going to you for service on my truck. Not to impressed with my local dealer so I am going to try a different one for my 40K service here in a few weeks.
Well I pulled pulled the glass off and figured out what was broken but I can't get the track to slide back forward on the passenger side. So now I can't even put the glass back in.
Informative Ty! BUT how can I move the rails into closed position? My pin on both sides is stuck all the way forward(closest to the front of the truck) and my front window panel flaps. I just want it sealed shut.
Hi thanks for the video, I wish I’ve know before. I took mine to the dealership the first time it happened and they said they lubricated and fixed it. The next thing I know it broke. Wouldn’t open all the way then wouldn’t close. The dealership told me $5,300.00 ok still looking around.
@@FordBossMe yea its nice easy money. Just take your time and make a system. Oh and don't follow the WSM and remove the door that is pointless. There is a huge hole in the roof, what do you need the door off for. And why take the headliner out of the car. Work through the giant hole with it laying on the dash and rear head rests.
Good video Thank you but my 2016F150 does not have a panoramic sunroof, it has just a single glass sunroof. Is there a way to replace the rails without having to replace the whole sunroof? Ford dealer says no...Thank you

Great content as always ,Quick Question , we have a 2015 f-150 Platinum that has no sunroof or sun shade operation at all , appears the electric motor isn't functioning . checked all fuses and switches and nothing happening , it appears there is a motor and module that can cause issues ?? any help or direction would be Greatly Appreciated . Thanks To all And Make It A Great Day
FJB cant wait for 2024...I have an older lexus GS300 with similar tilt and open sunroof to this one in your video...When i hit the tilt button, the motor tries to tilt the sunroof. On the right hand side (the knob moves) but the left hand side there is no movement at all.....also it seems the glass sits a little lower on the left also...tracks look like they are in good shape with no cracks..any suggestions you may have would be appreciated
Thanks for the video. I got mine sealed up and am just going to leave it not working. Now how do I get the sunshade closed? I am guessing the sunshade won't close because the truck thinks the sunroof is open.
Great video but I am having trouble closing it to start the process. Almost closes fully by itself but then goes back even with me assisting it with a decent amount of forward pressure.. eghh
The problem is you probably have something broken or stuck down in the track and it's going to have to all be taken apart and clean and there's no guarantee you're going to be able to use this video to 100% figure out what you need you just going to have to improvise
Is there part numbers for the lower track? I have a 2015 F150 King Ranch with same identical problem. I know the whole roof assembly has to come out to replace. I just need to know part numbers. Cannot find them anywhere. Great video thanks! I wish you could have shown the complete replacement job.
I don't know the part numbers honestly I would have to go to work which I'm on vacation until the 16th and if you're going to pull that whole thing out you may as well just replace it but you'd have to wait until the 16th for me to get part numbers for you
Are you call up the dealership or go into the local dealership and ask for a parts diagram and they will tell you what they cost and you actually have part numbers but you need to physically go do it that's the best way to go about doing it
like 30 dollars for the parts,,takes you about 6 hours to replace those things,,its easier to remove motors to be able to sllide brakets into positions for removal and installation,,,after you need to do a sunroof calibration,,i found all this helpful videos here on you tube,,,no need to remove headlinear or sunroof assembly,,,be ready to say f words continuesly,,lol,,if you order from amzson order two sets in case they fk up the order,,i got one with two of the same sides,,i had to reorder and had to wait 3 days,,when they got in it gave me trouble i shouldnt of had if the parts were good in the first place,,,reason is i was in a role,,had to stop and forgot how things had been done,,,,
My 2016 sunroof wouldn't open, had the issue before, $700 fix. I believe it was the plastic part you showed in the beginning that was cracked. Same exact thing happens this year, but the mechanics are saying they replaced the same parts and it's the motor to the track system and it's going to cost $4000-$5000 to fix. Am I being cheated? Because they claim to have installed those parts and the sunroof won't open, they also said they need to rediagnose it to make sure. How do I know these guys aren't just trying to rip me off? They also kept my truck for almost a month for an estimated 3-day job, blamed it on the parts not being shipped, yet they're not held accountable. Who holds mechanics accountable?
Just noticed my wife’s 2011 MKX won’t open. Tries to vent, shades open, then hear a click in the rear like something is off. And if only I can find a vid on my 2010 F150 Lariat on how to fix the rear power sliding window that won’t close the whole way. 🥴 Any ideas where to look? Thanks. Want to make wife’s Lincoln Great again. (Loved the soundbit)
When they start clicking there are two things going on rope needs to be replaced are you going to have to start taking stuff apart trying to figure out what is jamming it up If you don't want to mess on your hands let a sunroof specialist look at it
As for your F150 rear window It's operated off of a cable system underneath the window area behind the rear seat so either go to Napa and buy a small container of something called syl Glide and clean and lubricate the window track that slides back and forth on or something is wrong with the mechanism behind behind the fabric on the back wall of the cab
Damn it. 6/10/2024 1700hrs. My sun roof just took a shit and now it won't close and it's fully retracted & fully in the open position. I need to close it at least. Faqqqqq. 🤦♂️
Boss man, I’ve got the same problem you showed, could you please tell me what I need to repair it? I feel this is a very poor design, with all of the known issues with sunroofs sticking shut, there should be an easily replaceable weak link that sacrifices itself instead of causing $2k in repairs
I'm really not sure what you're asking me if I showed the problem in this video and I showed how to lubricate everything to make the sound go away then I must have showed the repair now if you're asking me how to fix the sunroof I have some experience but I don't have enough that I would feel comfortable telling somebody else how to do it
Well at least I know now all my ford dealerships in my area are lying to me. I’ve got the same problem and my parts are on national backorder. All I asked was to get it closed. Now I’m doing it myself.
@@FordBossMe 2014' F350 stayed open, I pulled into Ford Dealership in Dumas, TX and 1 tech ran the switch and 2 techs grapped the glass and closed it while I waited. 1 Hour labor charge and I continued my 600 mile drive.
Unfortunately you're going to have to gain access to the screws that hold the slider and Pull It Forward and then tape it down but I don't recommend just anybody doing that
You've got a blockage and you need to take some weed eater line and you need to find the drains in the back corner they can be hard to see and take that weed eater line and fish it down those drains and get the blockage out
Unfortunately I can't I left the dealer about 2 weeks ago and I don't have access to any of the online stuff anymore really you just have to clean the track and follow what I said I didn't really talk too much about replacing parts and most of the things that you have to do to get this fixed you're not going to be able to do yourself you're actually going to have to call a professional to come out and do it because you have to remove the whole entire headliner

Labor cost alone.
Mine will not close all the way. It slide open amd closed all the wat but that final little tilt is the problem. It goes up then comes back down. I press the button to close it and it tilts up, closes completely, then goes back down. If i hit the tilt button i get the same result.

I have one up doing this on a recent 18 expedition

@@FordBossMe Nice, you beat me to it. I am a new subscriber so still working my way through your videos. Like I said before great work!!! The guide you mentioned is the one that I used when going over the process. Too bad you are so far from me or I would be going to you for service on my truck. Not to impressed with my local dealer so I am going to try a different one for my 40K service here in a few weeks.
@@DavidSenn1 gotta feel comfy with your service indeed
Thumbs up to the SLEEPY JOE comments. HA HA
100% true
Crazy , I met this guy when I bought my ford from Dundee ford , now I’m here watching his video cus my sunroof is broken smh
man. great video, great explinations
Thanks for the insight brother. You're awesome! On a side night, love the political banter. Made me laugh my ass off 😂
Worked just as you said thank you!
My 15 sunroof works for the time being, however it leaks like crazy and the drains are free flowing. Love the smell of mildew in the morning 😢
Get it looked at
Well I pulled pulled the glass off and figured out what was broken but I can't get the track to slide back forward on the passenger side. So now I can't even put the glass back in.
Informative Ty! BUT how can I move the rails into closed position? My pin on both sides is stuck all the way forward(closest to the front of the truck) and my front window panel flaps. I just want it sealed shut.
I appreciate this video. This helps a lot
Hi thanks for the video, I wish I’ve know before. I took mine to the dealership the first time it happened and they said they lubricated and fixed it. The next thing I know it broke. Wouldn’t open all the way then wouldn’t close. The dealership told me $5,300.00 ok still looking around.
You should really start doing these in house. Easy $$$. I am surprised nobody at your dealer does!
We do more now than before
@@FordBossMe yea its nice easy money.
Ford dealer says no...Thank you
LOL at 6:51, you damn predicted the future. He now recommending a Justice to supreme court that reduces pedophile sentencing, just sick. Thanks for the helpful video, and FJB.
I’m currently stuck trying to do the same to my 14 explorer. But the track is different
Jeez everything’s so complicated these days, I never had the patience when I was young certainly don’t have it now 😬
Great content as always ,Quick Question , we have a 2015 f-150 Platinum that has no sunroof or sun shade operation at all , appears the electric motor isn't functioning . checked all fuses and switches and nothing happening , it appears there is a motor and module that can cause issues ?? any help or direction would be Greatly Appreciated . Thanks To all And Make It A Great Day
If you look at my Ford Explorer sunroof video where I show how to remove the motor it's basically the same concept and the same symptoms
Do you think this could be the issue with a 2009?
Thanks for the video. I got mine sealed up and am just going to leave it not working. Now how do I get the sunshade closed? I am guessing the sunshade won't close because the truck thinks the sunroof is open.
Open until the sun roof is closed correctly
@@FordBossMe There isn’t a way to override the sunshade? Or disconnect the motor and pull it shut manually?
Getting mine replace today with metal arms
😂😂😂
Love the ending!!!
Great video but I am having trouble closing it to start the process. Almost closes fully by itself but then goes back even with me assisting it with a decent amount of forward pressure.. eghh
Just tried it one last time, and it worked. Looks sealed as well, phew.. now back to the rough idle issue on the 3.5 ecoboost in this truck.
The problem is you probably have something broken or stuck down in the track and it's going to have to all be taken apart and clean and there's no guarantee you're going to be able to use this video to 100% figure out what you need you just going to have to improvise
What model and what year does ford start placing double sunroof im looking for a truck like this but I don't know much about the ford's
2015 and up
Is there part numbers for the lower track? I have a 2015 F150 King Ranch with same identical problem. I know the whole roof assembly has to come out to replace. I just need to know part numbers. Cannot find them anywhere. Great video thanks! I wish you could have shown the complete replacement job.
I don't know the part numbers honestly I would have to go to work which I'm on vacation until the 16th and if you're going to pull that whole thing out you may as well just replace it but you'd have to wait until the 16th for me to get part numbers for you
Are you call up the dealership or go into the local dealership and ask for a parts diagram and they will tell you what they cost and you actually have part numbers but you need to physically go do it that's the best way to go about doing it
@@FordBossMe ok thank you! Enjoy the vacation 👍
like 30 dollars for the parts,,takes you about 6 hours to replace those things,,its easier to remove motors to be able to sllide brakets into positions for removal and installation,,,after you need to do a sunroof calibration,,i found all this helpful videos here on you tube,,,no need to remove headlinear or sunroof assembly,,,be ready to say f words continuesly,,lol,,if you order from amzson order two sets in case they fk up the order,,i got one with two of the same sides,,i had to reorder and had to wait 3 days,,when they got in it gave me trouble i shouldnt of had if the parts were good in the first place,,,reason is i was in a role,,had to stop and forgot how things had been done,,,,
My 2016 sunroof wouldn't open, had the issue before, $700 fix.
I feel like all sunroofs become an issue reg as regardless off make
How did you get it to close?
I want to disable the switch of my 2016 f150 so that its never opened. What fuse does this?
Pull out your owner's manual and look
Just noticed my wife’s 2011 MKX won’t open. Tries to vent, shades open, then hear a click in the rear like something is off.
And if only I can find a vid on my 2010 F150 Lariat on how to fix the rear power sliding window that won’t close the whole way. 🥴
Any ideas where to look? Thanks. Want to make wife’s Lincoln Great again. (Loved the soundbit)
When they start clicking there are two things going on rope needs to be replaced are you going to have to start taking stuff apart trying to figure out what is jamming it up
If you don't want to mess on your hands let a sunroof specialist look at it
As for your F150 rear window
It's operated off of a cable system underneath the window area behind the rear seat so either go to Napa and buy a small container of something called syl Glide and clean and lubricate the window track that slides back and forth on or something is wrong with the mechanism behind behind the fabric on the back wall of the cab
I have a 2020, and want to keep the pano sunroof functioning. What are your best tips for preventive maintenance to keep it in good order?
Every week I would just clean around it and make sure there's no debris and stuff building up on, in or around the track
@@FordBossMe thanks, but is there any lube needed along the rubber seal to keep it from sticking? If so, what do you recommend?
I'm at work right now I thought I'd covered that in his video I thought I specifically said what fluid that they recommended and that I would use
My wifes 2018 is doing the same thing.
I'm really not sure what you're asking me if I showed the problem in this video and I showed how to lubricate everything to make the sound go away then I must have showed the repair now if you're asking me how to fix the sunroof I have some experience but I don't have enough that I would feel comfortable telling somebody else how to do it
Don't apologize!!! F JB
Well at least I know now all my ford dealerships in my area are lying to me. I’ve got the same problem and my parts are on national backorder. All I asked was to get it closed. Now I’m doing it myself.
Let me know how it goes
@@FordBossMe 2014' F350 stayed open, I pulled into Ford Dealership in Dumas, TX and 1 tech ran the switch and 2 techs grapped the glass and closed it while I waited. 1 Hour labor charge and I continued my 600 mile drive.
Do you have to buy the whole frame? 17 panoramic sunroof on superduty. Can't find parts
Typically at a dealer parts can be ordered
How can you manually close a 2012 Ford Edge panaramic sunroof? Thanks for any advice.
Unfortunately you're going to have to gain access to the screws that hold the slider and Pull It Forward and then tape it down but I don't recommend just anybody doing that
My drip tray is leaking in the rear onto my headliner. Is there a fix? Or just apply silicone? Thanks! And FJB!
You've got a blockage and you need to take some weed eater line and you need to find the drains in the back corner they can be hard to see and take that weed eater line and fish it down those drains and get the blockage out
I have exactly the same problem on my f150 2016, can u let me know what part number i need to able to place an order....thanks a lot.
Hi there, I was just wondering if it is somehow possible to manually close a fully opened sunroof? Happens on a Friday night of a long weekend. I just opened it and it is stuck. It’s a 2013 Fusion. Thanks for your time.
-Joe
Unfortunately no you have to remove the glass and then slide it back forward with the bulls out of it and then tape it down
@@FordBossMe Thank you for getting back to me. I will give it a try thanks for your time.

Do you have a shop ? If you do where are you located? Im looking to get my sunroof fixed because ford gave me a price of $2000! Just to fix. Interested in seeing if you can help me out with this, or if you know anyone who has a shop to do this.
Well when you left this comment I was actually working at Ford but now I'm a general manager at a independent shop in Chicago
I hope this never happens to my 01 TC sunroof, i try and do regular maintenance 2 or 3x a year.
Be nice to see the complete fix versus “having the sunroof guys fix it”. This is about 75% good.
Everybody else appreciated this video and was successful with what they found and my demonstration here you complained about something because you wanted more you wanted greed you wanted more time instead of being appreciative of what you did get and say thank you instead you chose to be facetious and not appreciative and rip away and tell somebody they didn't quite do good enough in your standards well if that's the case you don't have to be here you don't have to watch my videos and you don't have to take my time that's not yours to take
I would be ashamed if I was you of doing or saying something like you did to somebody else
Be blessed
Is there a part number for that Pin that broke off? I’m having the same issue. Both tracks were replaced however one of the black pin things is missing / broken
our catalog doesn't give us individual part numbers
Built Ford Tuff. Until it’s not.
We don't talk smack about manufacturers here bud it's a channel rule
Question I have a 15 edge with a pano roof and when I open it it’ll auto open 90% and if I hit open it moves I few more inches open. If I close it it will not auto close I have to hold it close. Reasons?
Thank you
Needs to be reprogrammed or switch replaced

Any advice for a 2008 focus st3. Mine is stuck in the same position.
Honestly I don't do a lot of sunroof most of the time because the track is broken
@@FordBossMe thank you for responding. Ford are trying to charge me £700 UK.
If anything pops to mind I'd really appreciate any advice given.
Would something like this be cover by warranty ?
Only if you are withing 3yrs 36k of new and if you are pass that either by years or miles it's NOT covered
@@FordBossMe how about with the premium extended warranty ? My truck is a 2017 f150 with 23k miles
My center drip rail tray wont stay up after i fixed my track ill get it spring loaded into place but once my sunroof opens up it just slides back and falls right back down any ideas?
I would have to look at it I don't have a lot of experience with these just the basic stuff that I showed you here
If you remind me next week and I get one in I'll look at it
Mine is stuck 2/3 open and the rear glass prevents me from lifting the front glass up
They're going to have to take it to somebody professionally to have it removed and reset in the meantime
@@FordBossMe there is crap in the tracks, so it won’t move forward is there a way to clear the tracks with the glass still installed?
Found a sliver of plastic in mine got it closed... side note it works but I’ll leave it closed to prevent further issues shit way to spend 80k
Nine minutes in to find out that you should get a professional sunroof guy. Didn't even know that was a profession.
It's funny you're the only one that complained about this great job
@@FordBossMe Great job? I'm sure you're a fine mechanic, but we have difference of opinion on what a great job is. The customers truck was still sitting in your bay broken and unusable.
@@michaelthomas7898 from experience, it took me 2 days to diagnose/troubleshoot/ replace that sunroof track. You have to completely tear apart the interior and manipulate around the overhead airbag system. He made the right call for a “professional” as it probably saved time and money for the customer. Labor cost alone.
Cost of repairs?
I mean you're probably looking at you know about 200 $250 to clean everything and lubricate everything
Tk ys
Mine will not close all the way. It slide open amd closed all the wat but that final little tilt is the problem. It goes up then comes back down. I press the button to close it and it tilts up, closes completely, then goes back down. If i hit the tilt button i get the same result.
That you're going to have to get a professionally look at unfortunately
@@FordBossMe damn
All good tell it gets stuck all the way open
has anyone had success with rails from Amazon?
How much does it cost to replace both tracks???
I don't do window tracks I only do basic repairs so I don't really know to be honest with you
I know in order to do any kind of real work the headliner has to be dropped probably talking close to four and a half to 5 hours of labor rate
What type of grease did you use?
I forget the name of it but you can use any kind of Grease white lithium grease would work too
May have been broke from someone hanging out of it sometime or another.
Sleepy Joe no edit 🎉❤ Love it!!! Go Trump
He should make them F150 sunroof tracks better (Biden)
Why they don’t make this with a different material better than than plastic
I agree
How about leaking Ford Sunroof's?
Typically drains are plugged
