Yes, once upon a time, fishsticks really were more fish than breading. Hardly any prepackaged food is as good as if used to be -- lower quality, but much higher price.

The Gortons fish fillets for sandwiches are superior to the other brands. They are whole pieces and not minced, and they cook up great in an air fryer. Put them on a fresh home baked bun with some tartar sauce and cheese and you're set to go.

Those are brands I don't think we have in Canada. And I don't think there's anywhere here (nowhere I shop, anyways) that you'll get 44 fish sticks for under six bucks. They want eight bucks for a small box with maybe a dozen of the little rectangular ones but at least the're more fish than breading. I like putting them in a hotdog bun with mayo and relish. maybe with a processed cheese slice.

I'd love some cod fish fingers to make tacos. Here in the US, I think all fish sticks are pollock and/or whiting. Chopping up the breaded cod filets for tacos seems wrong (and they would likely fall apart too much - might try it anyway)

They catch the fish live on the ship. Process the fish on the ship and package and ship everything out from the ship. They got hundreds of people working on there, with a big ass cafeteria. Fish sticks were too lower-class for my European parents, escaped from what had become Eastern Bloc territory: Dad was a successful doctor and he and Mom were raised upper middle class before war made them poor for many years. I started eating fish sticks occasionally once I was on my own. They struck me as so-bad-it’s-good food.
But I’ve been an insulin-dependent diabetic since 1970, and the breading just raises my blood glucose too much! I don’t trust the oil they’re fried in, either. With fish sticks it’s usually impractical to remove any of the breading , whereas it’s usually not too difficult with actual pieces of fish. Also, the breading makes them taste better.
My rule of thumb for frozen food: if grams of carbohydrate per serving is anywhere near the sum of the grams of fat and the grams of protein, avoid it. If the carbs are higher, forget it exists.

I long ago stopped buying frozen fish sticks (or "fillets") because the ratio of breading to fish is far too high. Perhaps my memory is faulty (I'm 62) but it seems to me that frozen fish sticks were much better 20+ years ago. As others have noted only the Gortons fish fillets for sandwiches might be worth purchasing if you're trying to create something like McDonalds Filet-o-Fish sandwich at home but otherwise none of the frozen, breaded or battered, fish products are worth the cost.

The big bags of Fisherboy are my favorite. They cook up nicely in the air fryer. A plate of those with some crispy crowns and I’m in heaven.

When one lives in a small town with only one grocery store, your favorite brand is oftentimes whatever is carried. Luckily, I like Gortons.

I hope that the wolf can make it over to Europe.
And can see what a different quality (mostly better) of food we have over here.

Well we have better freedom here in the US(if we can stop losing our grip on it), including the freedom to not eat processed crap at all.

The fish sticks I remember were at least twice the size of the ones reviewed in this video. As to cost, I don't know. Kids usually don't how much mom or dad pay for something.

I only buy the Gorton’s fish sticks that are made from whole fillets. I never buy fish sticks made from minced fish.

I don't buy minced fish fishsticks as a rule. Gorton's has good fillet based products.

Isn't there a law against false advertising? Both of those brands blatantly lie about the amount of fish in the stick! I think they each have an 1/8 inch plank of fish inside all that breading. Having said that, I have Gorton's fish sticks in my freezer and I do them in the air fryer occasionally. I think they taste good and make a decent imitation of a McDonald's fish filet sandwich. Thanks!
