Here is the first 3D pumpkin carving for this year!! I am very excited as this year promises to be a great year in my journey into learning to become better at carving 3D pumpkins. First I would like to thank R.A.M Farms here in Turlock California for providing me with these beautiful pumpkins. I am also to spend some time at their huge yearly pumpkin patch to do a pumpkin carving demonstration! Very exciting for sure! Carving 3D pumpkins can be fun, exciting, and rewarding. When I say rewarding, I mean when I carve 3D pumpkins, I feel relaxed and at home... in my very own world I've created in my mind where I go to get my inspiration. It may sound weird to you, but that explains how I start a 3D pumpkin carving not knowing what it's going to look like and have a nice 3D pumpkin in the end. I also draw my inspiration by watching 3D pumpkin carving videos here on CZcams such as the genius of Ray Villafane. Ray Villafane has been probably the most 3D pumpkin carving artist that has led me to embark in this two year journey I've been on. Ray Villafane is simply amazing and all my work is just child's play compared to his work. That's why I highly recommend you buy his DVD Tutorial set and his 3D pumpkin carving tools. Below I left the links to Amazon to all Ray Villafane's Tools and Tutorials.
I really hope you enjoyed this and I hope you check out my website where I show all my pumpkins: www.paulomachadophotography.c....

Hi Paulo,
You have really a great channel full of amazing tutorials. I'm very happy to subscribe to your channel today. I'm sure I have a lot of things to learn with you. Congrats,

Carving NET School.
hi. i think your videos are great. I tried my first 3d carving last year and i was very pleased. I have a lot to learn before im on your level. With that said, how about a step by step tutorial. I love the time lapse but how about a video with voice over or cut between real time and time lapse. i just think verbal tips would be a huge help. Anyway keep up the awesome videos
+logan diaz you have sparked something! I am thinking about starting a new series of tutorials that will teach each part of the face individually.
wow very nice carving dear
Thank you Bablu!
Loved it.. I want to try, what instruments are you using
You can go to my website and I have a page with the tools I use there: www.paulomachadophotography.com/carving-tool-links
Cool Fact: The fake candles in the background flicker 3,791 times during this whole time-lapse.
Thank you for that cool fact! I had not noticed, but I appreciate that!
3792.... actually.
Am jalous that you have so Big pumpkins
My pumpkins are not too big or too small... They are just right... Lol
+Paulo Machado Then you should see pumpkins in Denmark they are really smal pumpkins and they are not thick :P
+SubrosaRose I know what you are talking about... I am from Portugal and the pumpkins are the same way there as well! It sure makes it easy to carve these bigger pumpkins here in the US!
Paulo Machado where do you get the fancy tools?
I just bought tools from Triangle: amzn.to/2dRsc6t this is a kit you can pick up at Amazon. There is the one I used to make this video here as well: amzn.to/2eBOqb2.
The kit I used to make this video is a great starter kit... however, if you are more advanced I would recommend the first kit. It's more durable and better quality... it will last you longer and you'll find the results will be great.
Hi Paulo, fantastic pumpkin tutorial, you are very talented. I would like to know what the long bladed knife with the light green handle is called, would that be a fish fillet knife? I like how it can reach into the deep recesses . Where can one find a blade like that? Thanks and have a Happy Halloween! }:^)
Just wondering if this type of carving makes the pumpkins last longer or shorter than traditional carving, where u scoop out the insides
I feel it lasts less... but it depends on the pumpkin as well.
Paulo Machado thanks man, love your work... Hosting a party Saturday, wanna knock out the pumpkins as soon as possible lol
Did he use water or something especial to clean the pumpkin at the end?
What is it you wipe over it when you are finished??
I use steel wool to smooth the texture of the skin.
What are some of the tools you use?
This is my website of the list of some tools I use:

You are the ghost!
How much time it takes to carve one pumpkin ?
+beem24 it depends on how much detail I want to put on the pumpkin. It can take anywhere from 1.5 hours to 4 hours.
how long did it take you???
About 4 hours!
Olá Paulo, há alguma maneira de se conservar uma escultura em abóbora?
+Rodrigo Quirino já tentei diferentes maneiras mas não à nada que conserve por muito tempo.
Valeu Paulo!! obrigado ;-)

Tools?
+Chris G I have links in the description. Check it out.
I finally tried this type of sculpting for the first time a couple years ago. The first year, I couldn't even get the skin off the pumpkin, with the tool I was using. I finally did, but it took WAY too much effort. Then I broke one of my smaller tools. Last year, I got a set of really good culinary-grade tools from Ray Villafane. Broke the main tool just trying to get the skin off the pumpkin! They replaced it for free, but I've been too gun-shy to try again. Anyone else have that problem?
+Jason Fella I have had wonderful results with the Ray Villafane's tools. I've recently found these tools on Amazon and I'm giving them a try tomorrow when I do a live demo at a local pumpkin patch: amzn.to/2eFLR8c check them out. The other thing I would say is that maybe the pumpkins you tried to carve were of the variety that had very hard skin. Try different varieties to see if you find a difference. Just don't give up! Let me know what results you get.
You're right, I gotta get back up on the horse haha. I have Ray's really good set, so if it doesn't work, nothing will. But how are you supposed to know what variety of pumpkin you've got, or which ones don't work?
That's the most important question right there... What I've done is by trying different varieties until I found what works the best for me. While on the hunt for the "perfect" pumpkin, I found that a really heavy pumpkin with think stem is the best... normally means that it will be a thicker pumpkin which is perfect for what we do. The other thing is that you don't want to start out by carving the biggest pumpkin you get your hands on... about medium to small large... if that makes any sense.
I wish there was some way you could tell how tough the rind was gonna be, before you even buy the pumpkin.
I am making a video which I will be doing in real time and not fast forward... maybe you can pick up from what I do what kind of pumpkin I use. Check it our... it's coming soon.
Why is this coming up for tutorials? We are just watching you, there is not guidance like how you structure the face, etc.
love the video and I've gotta say you are beautifully skilled but just a tiny bit of constuctive criticism try to rehearse a bit before you do the final recording so it doesn't sound like you're reading a card. not trying to be rude. good luck with your career
+Jake May thanks you! Yea speaking in front of camera not my best attribute... I'm still working on it!
Yeah I hear you there I'm not very good at it either but don't give up its very barely noticable
Why don’t u tell us in the beginning what tool we need?? As far as I’m concerned it’s a pointless video, because it’s supposed to be a how to, and instead it’s more of a bragging video that is meant to keep us dumb while making him look smart... I don’t like it!
