    We just got done with Fr. Ryan’s 3 night mission and it was so real. Fr Ryan is such a dynamic preacher and tells us what we all need to hear. That was the best mission I have ever attended. I have such a new vision of what this life is all about and the real battle we are all in. Also how I need to truly meet Jesus. Thank you Fr Ryan for the work you do and Matt Fradd thank you for your prayers for us and all these videos and work you do for the Church. Always know that you and Fr. Ryan are always in my prayers

    I am so thankful there are priests like Fr Mike, Fr Matt Goring and Fr Anthony Hannon on CZcams. When you aren't hearing what you need to hear in your own parish not to mention the thousands of people who may not attend Mass on a regular basis or not at all.

    Ahahahaa I love this interview. It's the first interview that really makes me laugh out loud in a really good way. Like joyfully. There's so many good stuff said, but I just love how honest he was about how there were too many books by Catholics and he cannot read them all, he doesn't know what to do. Ahahahaa! It's funny how others said there has not a book written about this or that but this guy said there are too many books he doesn't know what to do. I love it. Am with you on that. LOL

    I love the story of Job. In Job, Satan isn't presented quite like we think of him today. In Job, he has an official role in the court of God. He is the accuser, the prosecuting attorney, if you will. God is the de facto defense attorney. Satan accuses the creation, and God defends it. But both are necessary. If we are to grow into what we are meant by God to be, we must be tested and refined. That necessitates hardship. I love Job because nothing that happened to Job had anything to do with what he deserved. He had a relationship with the Lord, and stayed true to it, though he did get testy with God for a bit. God blessed him for it. A friend doesn't spend time with you or do nice things for you because you deserve it. They do it because they love you. So it is with our relationship with God. It has nothing to do with what we deserve. God loves us and offers us his friendship and blessing if only we will enter that friendship and receive his blessing.

    great episode, love the literature discussion. i agree though, so many catholic books, i have way more to read than i have already read, and its so hard to choose what to get and what to start with. plus then you think you are missing something when you can't get to the other 80% of the books. i super agree with this, even though i love reading, i also think we should pace ourselves, and certainly make sure we don't write books just to write a book, but that it is something with enough new substance, and that is for the benefit of the faithful/evangelization rather than making a few bucks.
    maybe i'm just not organized enough, but i also think the "10 things about so and so" or "50 questions about such and such" kind of books are super annoying. i'm not sure exactly what it is, but perhaps i think that they end up arbitarary lists, when it could have probably easily been more or less than whatever chosen number. i feel like its putting things into a box rather than presenting the information properly. just a random thought.

    I feel like there is something missed in this book discussion.
    1) There is a danger in thinking I write but others shouldnt.
    2) People need different things, so that one book speaks more to one than another. I had to read all of Scott Hahn before I could appreciated Josef Pieper for the first time. But I had to read the Left Behind Series (garbage) before I ever read Scott Hahn.
    3) Do some people have the vocation to write. You hear people like Flannery O'Connor say she must write.

    Is the word you were looking for "Counselor" which means advocate or helper? I JUST read in my study bible as I go through the gospels in John 14:16: "It is a legal term , but with a broader meaning than 'counsel for the defense'. It referred to any person who helped someone in trouble with the law. The Spirit will always stand by Christ's people."

    Matt, about 1:15:00 you talked about your former lifestyle, and it reminded me of a book review of Hanna Arendt that I read years ago. Hanna popularized the phrase, 'The banality of evil,' in reaction to the Nuremberg trials, but the reviewer entitled his review, 'The Evil of Banality.' You mentioned that in your own words in your comments, and it's a truth that we must always remember, because banality is part of the very nature of our culture.
    While I agree with you in general about women comedians, there are some exceptions: Gracie Allen was razor-sharp and hysterical; Carol Burnett was screamingly funny; have you seen Katherine Hepburn in _Bringing Up Baby_ ? If not, you have missed a gleaming jewel of a complex comedic performance: is she a bubble-head, or is she a free spirit who knows exactly what she's doing? Phyllis Diller was funny, Moms Mabley, and Lucille Ball were, and watch Paula Poundstone's routines. She was a Jeanne Kerr for the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
    Once in a while a very good woman comedian comes along.

    What exactly is scary about an old woman who fills all of your dishes with fresh coffee? Maybe it's an American thing, but I would respond to that with a good old "Thanks, Grandma." ;) If you really want to write horrifying material you have to do it right. Instead of the old lady giving him more coffee, it should be a small child drinking the last cup of coffee in the house. Can you imagine how scary it would be to have a caffeinated child ghost bouncing off the walls with sleep-deprived mortal parents? Absolutely horrifying!

    I still respect Fr Gabriel Amorth's views on halloween a lot more than our lay speculations. I respect you, Matt, so much for your work and I love your show, but I simply don't think it's ever ok to trivialize evil or the enemy. It lets our guard down and we are called to be vigilant.

  • @annmarie3573
    @annmarie3573 Před 4 lety

    I very much enjoyed your conversation with Father, but he perpetuates a BIG and DESTRUCTIVE misconception in 1:08-1:11, where he is talking about divorce. He says that if you are divorced you don't have to stop going to communion (ie. you are not in sin) UNLESS you are dating or remarried. This is both in conflict with church teaching and biblical exhortation. The Catechism says "2384 Divorce is a grave offense against the natural law. It claims to break the contract, to which the spouses freely consented, to live with each other till death. Divorce does injury to the covenant of salvation, of which sacramental marriage is the sign. Contracting a new union, even if it is recognized by civil law, adds to the gravity of the rupture: the remarried spouse is then in a situation of public and permanent adultery: If a husband, separated from his wife, approaches another woman, he is an adulterer because he makes that woman commit adultery, and the woman who lives with him is an adulteress, because she has drawn another's husband to herself.
    2385 Divorce is immoral also because it introduces disorder into the family and into society. This disorder brings grave harm to the deserted spouse, to children traumatized by the separation of their parents and often torn between them, and because of its contagious effect which makes it truly a plague on society.
    2386 It can happen that one of the spouses is the innocent victim of a divorce decreed by civil law; this spouse therefore has not contravened the moral law. There is a considerable difference between a spouse who has sincerely tried to be faithful to the sacrament of marriage and is unjustly abandoned, and one who through his own grave fault destroys a canonically valid marriage."

    • @annmarie3573
      @annmarie3573 Před 4 lety

      So, to sum up, the CCC says divorce itself is a gravely immoral (ie sinful) act by at least one and possibly both spouses. If you have divorced by your own will (or by mutal will with your spouse) outside of very narrow and specific danger of abuse and when there is NO OTHER WAY to ensure safety and care of yourself and/or your children, you absolutely MAY NOT present yourself for communion until or unless your marriage has been pronounced null by the church, your spouse dies, or the separation is rectified and the communal family home and relationship is restored.

    Okay, I'm out of here. How can you preach about Catholicism when you have a tattoo? What kind of example are you giving your children? Don't you honor your own body? Would you put graffiti on your church? Then why do you put graffiti on your own body? It is offensive and disgusting! It is a outward message of inner disgust. How can I trust what comes out of your mouth when you don't even respect your own body? Shame on you!
