- Got a chance to experience a local festival near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir's Kupwara district. Bangus Mela is an annual celebration which takes place in the beautiful, offbeat and hidden meadow called Bungus Valley.
TIME OF FESTIVAL
August/September
HOW TO REACH BANGUS
1. Route 1: Rajwar-Handwara (shortest & most difficult) (will take you in the middle of small and big Bangus)
2. Route 2: from Langait (longest one) (entry to big Bangus)
3. Route 3: from Kupwara-Chowkibal (convenient & easiest) (vehicles can enter here till small Bangus's base, then 30 easy 30-minute hike)
Beyond 5pm, nobody is allowed to cross the check posts!
Permissions Required
You can submit an application to the KUPWARA DC Office for permission or you can get the permit made from the local police administration of Handwara.
For camping and night stay, again permission is required.

But one suggestion once you reach handwara or kulngam you can also go bangus from mawer side so easy then. Chokbal ....

Yes you can also go from rajwar but the road from rajwar side is not Fully completed yet so it is hard for tourists from rajwar side but we locals travell easily by foot..

People of kashmir even are focussing on Bungus valley.. Unless and untill we local do not travel to there it will be difficult for tourists.. But next 1-2 years will change everything

Bangus waakyi mai bahut khoobsurat hai
this place was leser known even for local kashmiri trekers but it was not restricked for kashmiries before militancy erupted in 1989 . i hope tourists will come across all over india and abroad to visit their and enjoy the nature.

Hi few questions. I’m not comfortable in Hindi.
1. How to reach Bangus from Srinagar in shared cabs ? Cost ?
2. Any tent camp available in bangus valley with river view ? Is it safe to live in tents ?
3. Should I hire shared cab or pvt cab which is good ?
4. How many days should I spend there ? Since, I have Pahalgam and Gulmarg in iternary. Shall I cancel either place and visit Bangus valley ? Or shall I add Bangus along with those 2 places ..
5. Compared to pahalagam and Gulmarg how’s Bangus valley ?
Sorry for asking all these qs. Can’t understand the language.

Hi, thanks for watching. And apologies for no subtitles.
Here, hope it helps.
1. Take a shared cab from Srinagar till Handwara or Kupwara. Stay in kupwara for the night. Get DC permit made from Handwara DC office (pls check Kupwara district website also for online permits). Take a personal can from kupwara till Bangus (best, bcs sharing cabs will take you till till village that comes before bangus, and from there it will be otherwise difficult for you to reach the bangus valley)
Shared cabs are cheap, 150inr to 300inr per person
2. U will have to carry your own tent, no such facility. U can request the nomads there, if they allow you stay in their temporary houses called Douks. Get DC permission for a night stay in Bangus.
3. Hire a private cab from handwara or kupwara to reach bangus.
4/5. It is enough to spend only one night in bangus. Keep gulmarg in your itinerary because it has several activities that u cant enjoy un bangus. Bangus is just empty but beautiful grazing ground. U wont find much tourists there.
@@TheIffyExplorer Tents are available for short period between July -august time as the area was unexplored till 2017-18. And then govt took initiative to promote this hidden gem in kupwara.
The road has been completed till bangus from all sides either from kupwara-chowkibal and mawar- handwara. And the last 30min trekking has finally been ended with BRO construction going on continuously.

Hey, 90% they wont permit you anywhere near the LoC (line of control) region
I'm a local of district Kupwara, Bangus is just 25 to 30 km from our village....
Every one can visit bangus valily you need only valid passport ... Amy travel company is in Handwara .. And I'm also a local travel agent of district kupwara.. J&k
