Good job.Had seen all types of tips from CZcams before our trip nd also researched a lot about kashmir nd our pre knowledge helps a lot.Regular travellers will also come in the lootera clutch ,forget about others.Drivers are not at all bothered about ur happy experience.photographers in the digital era charges so illogical amount 😢😢.Try to spend the minimal amount for each, still u ve to bear a lot of expenses.Always shop from laal chowk nd not from Meena bazar of dal lake.
You are right, we have faced all the scams and mostly we were cheated. I never come across such level of cheating in any other tourist places. I will never go to Kashmir in future.

I was totally cheated by these heartless scammers, I hated it. The driver even tried to make a pass on me in front of my kids. Horrible, but I kept my cool just not to be left somewhere else. Kashmir valley is a valley of lies.
Although it is very beautiful, it is commonly known that people in Himachal also are scammers too.

Gulmarg only ( if u have Gondola tickets), Sonmarg is ok , avoid Doodpatri( waste of one day), must include Pahalgam (two nights) hotel in Pahalgam main market only to enjoy it. In Srinagar, hotel near Dal gate, if needed near airport then Fair mount hotel is a very gud option
Why to leave doodhpathri. In fact based on season , its one of best to visit.
We did surprised paragliding there at 1500 per person.
Gulmarg is weather sensitive. Must study weather before reaching gulmarg.
I have faced exactly similar issues during my Uttarakhand tour around naineeal.our driver was big issue throat the 9 days trip . We felt cheated at multiple times but had no option when u r dependent on driver and agency is equally participating in it .
No doubt there are people everywhere especially at tourist places who charge more than but it is advised to get full knowledge about that destination where u have to visit from the concerned travel agent or from media sources. Regarding taxi in Gulmarg, pahalgam and sonamarg the restriction has been removed by the Government .

this is precisely why i prefer to go with a travel company along with other tourists. this way we make new friends as well as there is safety in numbers.
the downside is, there is a fixed program, and we all have to follow it.
many prefer to set their own program but i prefer a fixed program where meals are pre-sorted and we dont have to struggle to find food or places to rest.
even abroad, there are very few places where one can go without a care, like singapore or Tokyo , and some cities in europe.
for the rest, its always better to travel in a group.
There is no safety issue in kashmir once deal is done. Kashmir people are loyal.
Travel agents takes 40% margin so its upto u to decide whom to give money . Locals or travel agents!
I did own visit and it was not bad.
Air tickets or road travel also play important role.
Gondola rides open 30 days prior of ride through online. I myself Booked both phase and face no issues but you have show Aadhaar card if they asked. It's not 3 days as you informed.
What all you mentioned is 100% true.. we also faced all this during our kashmir trip.. our driver was also not very helpful.. kashmir is very beautiful but all these scams really destroys our happiness

Phase 2 - Jojila pass Hai...wahan pe ek Welcome to Leh Ladak Gate bhi Hai usko cross kar jana hai..wahin ek war memorial Tank kadihui mile gi...remember this...aur Sonmarg se Phase 2 tak max 5000 hi lag ta hai ek kadi 4 passenger

I am in Kashmir right now, did sonmarg till phase 3 which was pretty high than phase 1 or 2, it costs more, 3,500 pp. From there you can do sledging, which we did 1000 per person. So guess you missed something. I know there is hell of bargaining and cheating there

yes we also faced scam in kashmir we recently visited in june 24 first week
my driver in gulmarg said only horse go upto gandola ride office but after returned from gandola we saw taxi also for traveller with min chrgs and we have to paid 4000/- for 4 person in horse ride

Hello. I am currently in Kashmir and this is 100% true. However there are some new things you missed out. 1. Every spot has a multiple guides and they do not leave you even if you say no. If you are firm with them they start taking gods name and guilt trip you in taking their services. 2. Everyone that is at these locations will try to mint money out of you if you try to negotiate they say bad things to you. Like really horrible. 3. Please be aware that they force you to do activities and you will never be alone. When we visited Sonmarg we had 8 people following us (three horseman, 2 people forcing you to do sledge, 1 guides that we did not ask for, reel wala, and some vendor selling clothes) they did not leave me and my family alone even for a minute. We could not talk amongst each other. And they all would get really offensive if you took your gods name infront of them. This is the worst and waste of money trip for my family. We are never coming back. NEVER! The people here who are in the so called “JK tourism industry” are fraud, cheats, liars and have 0 humanity. They treat you like ATMs but the service they give is of beggars.
Also please see the biggest scam is the driver. He will only and only take you to the places he has tie up with. We all know drivers do that with food places and shops but this is another level. This is extended to every activity you do and levery place/sights you visit. He will scare you into not going to the place he has no connection with but will force you to go where he gets commission. Trust me if you do not research and tell him exactly where you want to go and when they will make a fool of you take you to one sight seeing spot perday and say that’s it and will drop you to the hotel. Also please see Sonmarg, Gulmarg, Pahalgam etc the city sleeps at 7-7.30 PM so you won’t be able to go anywhere with family.
All the things you have said is absolutely true, it’s very less things we remember to tell people, we faces such problem in every seconds on our trip. Not a single minute we enjoyed 🙈

I think this type of things happen everywhere in a bustling place, it happens even in Europe and besides there are criminals like pickpockets. Kashmiris in general are good , honest , trustworthy and hospitable people . We shouldn’t blame everyone. I want to emphasise here that the authorities should take care of this problem and tackle the dishonesty asap to prevent avoid any dent in the tourism industry.

Madam, i recall my first Kashmir trip in 1988 with my parents and want to share with u. During the stay in Srinagar, once my father asked someone about the direction of some place, the man gave directions very promptly and decently and then he asked 5 Rs (in1988).
My father told him, will u take money only to give directions? The man laughed loudly and stated in a violent mode which is still struck in my mind..
"BABUJI. YEH KASHMIR HAI, KASHMIR. YAHA AAPKO BINA PAISE KA THAPPAD BHI NAHI MAREGA"

Ma'am I too visited Kashmir recently in the month of April but I didn't fave any problem as u hv mentioned. Just for the sake of like, comment please don't blame anyone. It's their earning and different person hv different price ranges. So dont mention it as scam. If u think these poor people r scammers don't go to Kashmir rather go to places where u r charged more than these Kashmiris,where u r being cheated and u dont even know that .

99% people just want money from you, if you can give 100000 they will take it, if you have 50k they will take that, if you have 10k they will take it.

First of all i apologize for everything that you have faced in Kashmir. Let me clarify one thing these types of people can be found everywhere in the world not only in India. I have traveled to almost all major cities and tourist places in India, especially Goa and Kerala. I have also faced similar situations not only in other parts of the country but even in Kashmir, as I live in Srinagar. If you faced any difficulties, you should have lodged a complaint with the Tourism Department so that these fraudsters would never do this again to any tourist. As a travel agent myself it has always been my first priority to protect my customers from such fraudsters. I have a request for everyone who wants to visit Kashmir or any other tourist place in India it's better to book your trip through a registered travel agency as it is their responsibility to keep you safe from these fraudsters. You are always welcome here and once again I apologize for everything that you faced during your Kashmir trip. Thank you.
I think your travel agent has not given you the information and mostly all tourists know that phase 01 & 02 is in Gulmarg for Gondola

When you book through agencies, Locals don't make much money. Kashmir is suffering and tourism is the main way to earn money. The Government of India should do something where local people make some money and not big agencies. Whenever I travel I not only tip but take small gifts for young kids, hotel staff and students

Instead of being a good & honest host, they are sucking the blood of the same people who are giving them so many opportunities & livelihood. It’s a total betrayal, cheating & scam going on in Kashmir unchecked
