Xbox interview stuff with Phil starts at 42:45
Thank you!!
Good looking out
thank you so much
thank you
Thanks bro! 👊🏾
The S/O & ILP love was truly appreciated Mike! Good to see the Xbox Two on!
When we getting the some lords on the xcast, at least my boy cog
Jez and Ran Al Thor on the XCast! Its about time we got this crossover!!!
Mike looks like he just hit the bong
Ya well he is at home lmao
Snap didn’t expect Rand and Jez! Great chemistry with Mike! More of this in the future!
Lmao!!! The ad break was perfect!! Felt like Blessing just jumped in and kicked Mike out! 😂
That ad break was a jumpscare lol
Jez looks so dashing! And Rand, we yearn to see you on cam. Rand on Cam 19!
Does anyone else think its odd every time Phil speaks he needs translators to tell us what he really meant?
Lmfao.
Everytime.
You only need a translator if you’re simple minded. What’s going on here is a discussion, not a translation
Its just damage control
@breadboi8747
Jez literally says in the conversation that this is his interpretation of the interview.
But I'll take it you're simple-minded and forgive you.
Very fun episode great having the Xbox two boys around!
I don’t think Xbox handheld will work, it worked with Nintendo cause they were already known for handheld devices and they already have games that work for handheld but I don’t see people begging to play gears of war or halo or cod warzone on a handheld screen on the go. I think they are all trying to jump on the success of the switch instead of finding the path forward that is right for Xbox and not jumping on the bandwagon
I think Xbox should combine pc and console instead, basically release the next Xbox as a pc, that can be upgraded and parts can be replaced and changed like a normal pc, and then people can buy the base pc and play Xbox games or buy the upgraded chip or upgraded ram to play the pc versions of the games, and that would tie into the game pass and eat into the pc market and they could easily carve a spot in there doing this
If the next Xbox is just a PC it'll mean the following:
PS6 - best bang for you buck at $600 because the platform is subsidized by 30% license fee
Xbox - Similar specs but for $800 or even more because if it's just a PC Microsoft won't be earning that 30%. Valve will with Steam.
People seem to forget that the reason the consoles cost as little as they do is because they're subsidized. The makers are prepared to launch at a loss and then sell at break evenz eventually working towards selling at a razor thin margin because the actual profits are from another revenue stream (30% from every third party sale, subs, first party).
Without that 30% console makers then have to fill that hole with something else, like charging hundreds more dollars for the console itself. But even if they did that it wouldn't fill the hole left by the 30% absence.
@@ooombasa5080 no I’m saying they sell a pc that plays on the level of the Xbox series x or the next gen, they make it with the same gpu and everything as the Xbox would, but you can upgrade parts of the pc to get the full pc expierience of graphics if you have the money, otherwise you just get an Xbox with a browser basically, it wouldn’t be more expensive cause it’s mostly just a change in name, it’s still an Xbox at base level but has internet and keyboard access fully like a pc
But then if you got the extra money, you can upgrade the graphics card or add extra ram or memory or whatever like a pc
Success of steam deck, rog ally shows people want powerful handhelds for non nintendo gamea
Mike's one of the coolest people to meet in person
Phil inhereted an Xbox division on a death bed and turned it into a division of MS taking in more money than Windows. Hate the guy all you like for console war BS, but the guy has done the work
Except none of that is true. Nobody hates him, we just want him to do a better job.
Yeah I agree and people saying Xbox is dead when they Like Sony have over 120Mill monthly active users does it matter if it's on Xbox PC Playstation or Nintendo? Millions of Sonys active users are on Xbox between MLB The Show and Destiny

Exclusives exclusives exclusives. Thats what sells consoles. Focus on the games not the latest gimmick.
This is like a world colliding

25:34 - Classic!! 😂
So this tells me that MS has given up on this generation and the community they have built up so far and are now pivoting to genz and later generations.
Essentially they want to go head to head with Nintendo and Steam in the mobile gaming market.
Godspeed MS, you will need it.
Really great episode!!! This is like the Xbox Avengers haha
Is Gary not on this anymore? I know he's a busy dude so I'm not complaining, just curious if I missed an announcement. Gary has been my favorite Kinda Funny member since him and Jared cohosting on KFGD
They did say he will be back he's very busy after the writers strike is over

So when I buy this Xbox handhale what would I be playing?
Not sure I understand Jez when he says the Series S has reached new audience. When you see the totality of next gen units sold thus far, it seems like it’s mostly coming from Xbox’s frugal player base. Love when Rand pretends to speculate on Spyro when he probably knew the news was incoming lol. Disappointing how Jez take on devs not supporting the Xbox platform. That’s real problem regardless of what level of budget these games are. Also there have been reports that MS is not supporting indie devs financially as they once were.
Hey, I recognize those two!
The Xbox handheld is I think the new skew Xbox would greatly benefit from.. I do think it's the device that can most successful crack a new audience.. Plus is appeals to the hardcore as well.. Those of us already in the ecosystem see the value in having a complimentary dedicated device that we can take outside wherever we want to.. Friends house.. Travel.. Holiday.. Work (on break, come on guys lol).. Its a lot of options we've seen the Switch be good for.. Or the Steam Deck or these portable PCs.
I do think the time is just right.. This year.. Thats the mid gen hardware drop.. The dedicated handheld that's both good as your only Xbox device or part of your family of devices.. Just a standard console mid gen with a slight bump and a new shape box isn't appealing or exciting.. Do something totally new within this gen.. The timeline also works well as we can expect the gen to bleed into the next as the X1 did to the Series.. The Series being the perfect name for this gen if a handheld is released.. Its a series of consoles. Have it at least aligned with a Series S with a slight bump.. This can run all the software to date plus at least a few years into the next gen.. And by the point its no longer viable for that and hardware possible.. Then they can release the next handheld and be around the middle of the gen again.. Its all just aligned nicely..
So my bets are on..
Xbox handheld 2024
PS5 Pro late 2024/25
Nintendo Switch 2 2025
Next gen Xbox 2026
PS6 2027/28
No way they release a handheld in 2024.
100% not happening
@jacoblesperance2115 They have hardware this year.. I sense its the handheld..
Guess what an Xbox handheld would be... An all digital device. With the added appeal of it being a handheld.. Both casuals and importantly the hardcore would want this device.. Double dips plus new ways to appeal to customers is a win win..
We also know that the all digital 'console' has been scrapped.. So what's replacing it.. Not a Pro or mid gen bump.. Thats been ruled out.. So all that remains in the handheld.. The timing is perfect for it.
Xbox generally need to use this gen to clean up everything.. Finish up the backwards compatability program add those 350/400 games that are missing that deserve to be there.. Get all digitally owned titles playable on the cloud not just the stuff on Game Pass.. Launch the mobile storefront.. Continue to align console and PC releases and cross save/ownership.. Have 2 years of strong cadence of releases from 1st party whilst doing these things.. Release a handheld to appeal to new and pre-existing.
I think Holiday 2024.. Xbox handheld.
If its just 1 model.. Or 3.. Who knows.. I sense it will be multiple a cheap entry one with little memory.. A middle group with decent memory.. Then a hardcore one with 5G tech included and the largest internal storage of the 3..
Then it's 3 and half to 4 years into the next gen they can look at replacing the handheld with the next model..
The handheld in this moment will be the bleed over machine in regards to software.
Let's see what happens.
Xbox handheld won't crack any new market. It'll sell mainly to a minority of the Xbox faithful.
Either the handheld is sold at a decent price (subsidized) but that means its closed and so why get that compared to Deck or a future Deck or any other PC handheld, which are open and allow for Steam. Or the handheld will be open which means it'll be sold at a high price because it's not subsidized (because people will be using it for Steam).
Where's the new market there.
More Rand and Jez please! Xbox two podcast is always the highlight of my week!
Rand is big time now
Always has been
I might want a handheld platform, but let me be realistic for a moment. Look at the current market. Look at who they wish were playing on Xbox young kids, the kids playing on cell phones that’s who they want to be on their Xbox platform. Yeah they’d love to get those PlayStation gamers, but boy would they love to have those young kids come play an Xbox. Now let’s be real. If you’re foreign Nintendo, you are not going to buy an Xbox handheld. If you are for PlayStation Azar, you’re not going to buy an Xbox handheld. Wait a minute you just shut out a big portion of the market. Can you sell an Xbox handheld to just your Xbox customers for the most part and everyone else. The Xbox customers those truly loyal to the brand they will buy the handheld, but will everyone else buy it because you need to sell two more than just your base to really turn a profit to really make it successful. The overall larger audience they won’t buy it let’s just be real they will not buy an Xbox handheld. They’d rather play the game on a cell phone. Figure out a way to make the game playable on a cell phone. You need some rig some device where you could slot the cell phone in have buttons on the side and have an interactive app. That’s what you need. I don’t know how you do it but that’s your best bet something where someone can buy it for $50 maybe or less slide in the cell phone and go. Young kids who like to play certain games aren’t going to want to give you $300 For a handheld. Let’s be honest a handheld is going to cost you more than $300. You’re looking at $400 and once you start saying those types of numbers I might as well go buy a console. So if you’re going to make a handheld it needs to be revolutionary it needs to be totally different than what we think of as a handheld. It needs to be focused around an app that can play Xbox games yet have the functionality of an Xbox controller. You need a super backbone that’s what you honestly need with storage space and everything figure that out make it $150 then you might have some.
Im with Rand I don’t typically replay games either. There’s too many games out there!
I'm the same way. I would rather play something new - or at least new to me - than go back to something I've experienced before. I feel like I'm always behind with games constantly coming out. So I'm always looking forward to something lol
I’m 95% the same, it’s a reason I can’t play multiplayer games without taking breaks cause it’s mostly the same.
I do however like to replay some classics every couple years like Halo/Fable/Gears etc
Im replying God of War Ragnarok right now…classic
shout-out to 3 Xbox legends!
Jez is flat wrong on the console users.
Sadya literally says its across Xbox consoles, PC ane mobile for the monthly active users

It does seem like even developers are getting disillusioned by Xbox, if the discussions at GDC were anything to go by. A lot of them were even questioning the utility of bringing their games to Xbox in the first place. Especially in Europe.
Re: south park, I can't understand why they didn't make a sequel to the rpg games. Total let down.
I can only imagine they didn't sell that well so now they're following trends unfortunately
I want a pc/xbox handheld that plays xbox/pc games and ps.
I’m enjoying DD2, but I disagree on how handcrafted it is. The endless compare StarField is nauseating as well, since the story lines in StarField are incredible, especially compared to something like DD2. Also, running into 4-5 monstering while trying to get from one town to the next doesn’t seem very hand crafted to me.
"People love the Switch, people looooooove the Steamdeck"
Not to split hairs here. Nintendo has sold about 140M Switches and about 4M Steamdecks.
There is a very slight difference in those numbers.
The mobile Xbox is not going to save you guys. You need GAMES to play.
I'm really enjoying Banishers, i agree with Rand.
Jez said this version of xbox is the biggest its ever been? Bigger then the 360 era? Why is he lying.
I’ve been waiting forever for the 3 best Xbox dudes to be in the same place! Great stuff 😍
The starting segment when Rand and Jez were talking about the games they are playing actually sold me those games way more than the trailers did. So interesting
I'm tired of both consoles honestly. Jank ass games that take months to fix. Sony and Microsoft should just publish games and let us build our own PCs. Depending on your cash you can scale up and down your system. You can make some pretty sweet sff boxes nowadays that'll run games really well.
Thinking games are less janky on PC is certainly...a take 🤨
This idea that big 3rd parties aren't discussing skipping xbox flys in the face of literally sarah bond on the stand during the FTC trial saying ABK came to us and said give us a bigger cut of the sales or COD isn't getting ported to xbox lol.
At around 40 hours into Dragon's Dogma 2 I almost did a spit-take when they talked about it not having any "copy and paste". While many of the things like the caves may not technically be copy and paste about 95% of the world feels generic and pointless. I like the game a fair bit but it seems like there's a strong "honeymoon period" happening right now where hype is covering up the pretty significant flaws in the experience.
Guess I won't be playing that
the problem with Japanese games on xbox is the people who play them have been trained over years now that if they want to play them there isnt any point in buying an xbox they at best come to ps/switch/pc 1st and xbox last/never the audience for those games has already left and probably arent coming back. The series x/x is the 1st xbox console ive not owned and because of ms stuff coming to pc day 1 there is 0 reason to buy one (and i have 0 interest in a handheld). i regret buying a ps5 this gen never mind an xbox i doubt i will buy any non nintendo consoles ever again
Mike doing the podcast with Jez and Rand, we are cooking! It only needed Parris and this would be perfect.
When Phil did the interview last year with Kind of Funny. He had Rare moving in silence porting Sea of Thieves to Playstation. He’s a liar.
He's a good mouthpiece because he speaks well and in public perception he's known as the gamer guy but make no mistake he's a ruthless operator and would sell his own mother if it meant earning brownie points for his overlords. The leaked emails with him having back and forth with the other Xbox suits where he's boasting about the financial might at his disposal and that Sony can't handle it, this shows that behind closed doors he's just as corporate as his masters are and not a "man of the people" at all.
Can't make good exclusive games while owning a lot of studios, then trash exclusives. It's working cuz gamers are easy. Need games.
I don’t understand the desire for them to continue the 2-SKU approach at launch.
Have we learnt nothing from the X and S? A handheld would have to be less powerful, and then we get back to the parity issue, but arguably worse considering how games will progress over the next 5 years
Handheld won't be next gen it'll.be series s power and release with this gen
@@johnblue341 That isn’t necessarily what is being reported, or what the scuttlebutt is.
If it was this gen, somewhat makes sense.
But I’m not sure it is this gen.
Time will tell I guess, but Jez and Rand and Mike are talking about the handheld coming out alongside next gen
Agree. I really don't see how this will make Xbox more successful. Espeically when high-performances handhelds are not only VERY expensive, but also speak to a small audience. Even ignoring that 2 SKU issue -
Steam Deck is the most successful handheld (not called Switch) and has sold 3 million times in 2-3 years. Not sure if those sales will move the needle in any way
@@johnblue341 You're living in dreamland. First off, memory bandwidth of Series S ain't possible in a mobile housing. 2nd of all even the best specced PC handheld today don't come close to Series S. And non-ARM mobile tech isn't improving quickly enough (especially when battery usage has to be considered) to reach Series S power in the immediate future.
The handheld will be the powerful next gen xbox that's dockable. The console will be a cloud AI machine.
At least he's bringing some games this year - it's more than what I can say for PlayStation at the moment.
Can I play FFVII Rebirth or Stellarblade on Xbox? I havent got to Spiderman 2 yet, can I buy it for xbox?
@@preyingocelotgames4397coo how about 1P cause Sony had nothing to do with these games.

Does Rand have a real human face or...?
He got the cartoon surgery that’s just what he look like now :-(
I see people are now pinning their good guy phil hopes on a new 4D chess move (handheld). Would love for someone to explain the business model there and how it'll sell more than a million or so outside the Xbox faithful. Hardware platforms subsidize their costs with the 30% cut from every software and MTX sold on the platform. Without that cut PS5 and Series X would be sold at $800 to ensure a good enough profit margin (and barely anyone would buy that). But of course it wouldn't even get that far because the console market wouldn't exist if the console markets couldn't get that 30% cut. The 30% is the business model.
So, with that in mind, how does an Xbox handheld succeed? If it wants any hope to sell it needs to be subsidized else it'll be $700 but that means closed platform and thus most would just pick up the Steam Deck 2. And if the Xbox handheld is open platform then Xbox won't get the 30% because people would buy the Xbox handheld and then just install Steam.
The Steam Deck works because Steam is the dominating PC software platform. Not only can Valve subsidize the handheld because of the 30% they get from every Steam sale, but they can also keep it open platform because while players can install other stroefronts to Deck, everyone is on Steam, so Valve doesn't lose out. They can do both open and retain their cut.
Xbox can't do that. They either gotta be closed which hurts the handhelds appeal compared to Deck or open it up and lose the 30% and thus have to sell the handheld for $700 (again, hurting its appeal compared to Deck).
Why is this even a conversation? Why are we even discussing handhelds ? Consoles sales are flat due to the fact that there last headline exclusive was Starfield which came out last September. That is why. The moment they actually have compelling exclusive games then the sales will rise. It’s just simple logic.
Phil the lying fake gamer CEO of 10 years of what ? Third place to third place
Great vidoe. Yep, Xbox is a mess. Fanboys can sugar coat it all you like, but facts are facts.
Not as much as PS say what you will about Xbox but they haven't closed down studios or canceled 6 plus games pausing VR support cmon now be real.. Xbox is only pivoting also firing Jim and laying off Connie Booth oof but hey keep on Xbox bad natative also sony mitterally has zero 1p games for rest of year but hey I guess that's fine right.

@johnblue341 bro you're alright?
@@johnblue341 Jim wasn't fired. Helldivers 2 is literally owned by Sony. And at least Sony tries to be innovative and tried VR. It worked for most games but the business model didn't work.
But at least we gamers got something out of it. Better than having a company make a Series S and you losing functionality.
They have THIRTY million Series X and Series s in the wild, that is PLENTY of people.. If they made games people wanted and sold 20 million copies, or 15, every year, how would that be "flat"? They just don't have the game.. Also they get plenty of money from Game Pass, equivalent to people buying 3 games a year.
Mobile gaming was the WORST thing to ever happen to video games(and publicly traded companies), well not just mobile, but microtransactions in mobile.. If it wasn't for that, I think they'd be just happy to have continually growth, but now that they see GARBAGE like Monopoly mobile makes 2 billion in a year, they are chasing that growth and revenue like crackheads, and it just taints everything else.. Look at WB, they should be SOO happy with Hogwarts sales, but they are wanting to just chase that crap and not do Single Player games.
“They just don’t have games” we’ve been in this generation for almost 5 years now that’s not a good thing
@@graynor67 I know, they SHOULD have them easily with all the studios. Honestly I have a sinking feeling that because of the Game Pass Mandate, they have gutted the available funding on all but the top 5-10% of main Xbox titles(and they only go over when it's forced because of delays and issues), so these studios are massively hampered on what they can do or how big they can make it.
Obviously they can still make great smaller games like Helldivers or Palworld level, but when was the last time we got a big AAA banger that had a sick budget? And if I'm right, that is so garbage, I love Game Pass, but if we could have Game Pass and it didn't have day 1 first party and we could get Ghost of Tsushima level games, I'd MUCH rather that, or to get rid of Game Pass all together. Instead I have to buy a PlayStation to play 2-3 games. Come on Phil wtf
People don't see it yet but financially playstation doesn't stand a chance Long term which sucks Microsoft needs competition or they will give us crap etc
