Join me as I look at the life and career of Ken Osmond, best remembered for his portrayal of Eddie Haskell in the classic television series Leave it to Beaver.
I met Ken Osmond at a charity event, he was sitting next to me and my daughter was sitting on my lap and he asked me what my daughter's name was and I told him and he said " She will be a knockout when she is 18 " I was beyond excited that " Eddie Haskell" was giving my daughter a compliment .
Eddie was a huge part of Beaver’s success. Without his character the show would not have been nearly as great as it was. I’m so sorry to just now hear of Ken’s passing.
@@bara7331 I don't disagree. There are others as well, Brandon Cruz, Kim Richards, Butch Patrick, etc... I was just pointing out two that I saw a lot of when I was growing up.
I’ve been watching Leave it to Beaver every night for a while now. Ken Osmond was terrific playing Eddie Haskell. They all were great! A true classic. Brings back wonderful memories of my youth.
I am 83 and still love Eddie. In church I often use his lines. Excuse me Mrs Jones, that is a lovely dress you are wearing. Excuse me, that was an Eddie Haskell moment. Always gets a laugh.🦇
Thanks for the laughs and thank you for your service to your community and the nation. A saying we have in law enforcement is "it's not how they died that makes them heros, it's how they lived their lives". Ken you are a hero
I remember seeing Ken Osmond in an episode of "The Munsters". Bonnie Franklin was in the same episode. God bless him for his life long marriage! Marriages like that, are way too rare, these days.
Great video. So many memorable scenes with Eddie but i think my favorite is when they go to the amusement park and they ride the Rollercoaster. Eddie starts out all brave but by the end he's falling all over Lumpy, scared out of his wits. Cracks me up every time.❤
Eddie haskell was my favorite character in the program. My cousin told me that her family met Ken Osmond. He was likable. Several times he had meals at my cousin's house in the in Sylmar, California.
Eddie Haskell didn't ALWAYS pick on the Beaver, sometimes he gave him helpful advice and proved his behavior was just an act. Those were the days of rolled up shirt sleeves that held packs of soft=pack cigarettes with muscles dangling below them, and nobody wanted to be taken for a weakling, an easy mark. I lived in Glendale in the 60's, the 70's, the 80's and the 90's, at different times, while working different jobs. Glendale sure has changed over the years! I would have loved to encounter Ken Osmond back in those days. Thank you for sharing this video with everyone. "Maine" says "Hello" again.
I was just thinking of them all yesterday. Beaver, Wally, Eddie, Lumpy (Clarence). While no one's real parents were like the Cleavers, we could definitely connect with the kids! Thanks for sharing this with us.
I think a lot of kids had someone around who were like Eddie. They usually wise cracking guys who was always trying to figure out a angle to everything. RIP Ken
Eddie was always my favorite on the show. When he was shot as a LA Police Officer, he said one of the bullets deflected off of his belt buckle. I knew a few guys in high school that were like Eddie.
I recall in a local 1970s TV show in the San Francisco TV market that had Jerry Mathers [The Beaver] as a guest. Mathers gave praise to Ken Osmond for being the most talented actor in the cast of the "Leave It To Beaver" TV series, as Osmond had to get Eddie Haskell character from being a jerk to an exceptionally nice person in a heartbeat in that series. In the "New Leave It To Beaver" TV series in the 1980s, it was shockingly amazing to hear the June Cleaver character yelling at the adult Haskell, with June exclaiming regret that she should have 'taken him over her knee' [being a reference to punishment spanking] when Eddie was a child.
Eddie could always gaslight anyone, which made the character so unique. I remember in the USCG wearing a shirt with his photo on it when on liberty. Amazing how many did not know who he was.
Eddie wasn't "one" of the most memorable, he was THE MOST memorable. I had a big crush on Tony and couldn't stand Eddie, but as an adult watching everyone act (or not act or act badly) he was always on top. Too bad he acted himself into a corner so that he couldn't get other acting jobs - I'm sure he could have been very versatile. They didn't give Emmys back in the day to teens, and particularly not on comedy shows, but he should have had several.
I met Ken when I was a little kid, I was always wanted to be a Policeman when I grew up, and one night I heard a Harley drive past our house, but it sounded weird. We went out and found a Motor Officer with his broken down Harley Davidson, this was back in the early ‘70s, and the Officer was none other than Ken Osmond. We invited him in to call for a repair vehicle or whatever, and he told us who he was, but I could totally tell it was him. That was a very cool experience for me, I was a huge fan of the show Adam-12 and my Mom became a Police Officer not too long after that.
@@spaceagerabbit It was very cool, I had no idea, he was an LAPD Officer, we were just offering help to an officer who needed to make a call, but as soon as I saw him, I recognized him. I’m surprised I recognized him, but I’ve always loved Leave It To Beaver and I could just tell it was him
@@kenthurman3276 The neighborhood kids must have been blown away when you told them the story! Ken seemed like a nice guy, very different than the character he played. What a treat to meet him like that!
In the 70,s there was a Rumour that he was really John Holmes the xxx rated film star known as Johnny the wad . Not true of course . I remember one episode where he says to beavers mom, “ hello Mrs Cleaver how do you like my new shoes they’re from Italy “ . 😝
Eddie wasn't prepared for the test, so Eddy wrote his "Cheat Notes" on the Restroom paper towels. --- Wally had to use the bathroom, early in the test. --- Later, when Eddy went to the restroom, Eddy's "Cheat Notes" were gone. --- So Eddy tattled to the Teacher, claiming that Wally had used the Cheat Notes. --- When the Teacher kept Wally after class, the Teacher revealed the HE, the TEACHER, was the one who removed Eddy's "Cheat Notes", being fully aware of this common trick.
I think everyone had a friend like Eddie, always kissing rear ends of adults. A funny show and even though life really wasn’t like that, there was still respect for elders and laws.
You had to like Eddie but yeah he was a smart ass . He reminds me of a kind of friend ,till I had to put my somewhat friend in jail for trying to take my car one night. After that never saw him again. But love the leave it to beaver . Here something that funny I became a police officer in 1971.
Interesting that the picture you start with shows, leave it to Beaver being shown on channel 16. You’re probably not old enough to know this, but there was no channel 16 station. The manual tv dials didn’t go higher than 13 at that time.
I popped into the world in 1970. I don't recall how many stations there were at the time, but I do remember being told I wasn't allowed to "touch the buttons" on the TV and feeling that was terribly unfair 😂
Ken's characterization of Eddie removed much of the innocence from the show (kids were jerks then as much as now), helping to make it as great as it was.
the guys were in ward's home office and saw a dictionary and asked why. ward said it was to check spelling. eddie said for words like dog and cat, effectively talking back to mr. cleaver.
A couple of classic Eddie moments. Eddie to Beaver: "Hey kid, looking good, been sick"? Wally to Eddie: "C'mon Eddie, knock off on the Beav". Eddie to the Cleavers: "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Cleaver, is Wallace home"? Eddie was a total BS artist but very funny. Of course the Cleaver parents saw through him but tolerated his nonsense.
There's a scene, I don't know what episode, he walks up to wally n lumpy at the school lockers and asks, " what are you guys plotting to blow up the school? " Or blow up something...Why do I remember that ?
Ken and Alice dont look anything alike,But anyway,I like the episode where Beaver puts a voodoo curse on Eddie,Eddie: you put a voodoo curse on me?Beaver:Yeah,Eddie:why? Beaver:Cause i don't like ya,nobody likes you Eddie, not even Wally and he's your best friend.
I agree! Ken and Alice don't look anything alike. It's wild that anyone ever believed that rumor! I forgot about the episode where Beaver put a curse on Eddie 😂
Did he tell you that was a lovely dress you were wearing?
I’m sure he was 100% sincere! Seriously, Ken Osmond was one of the good guys.
Always the charmer.
Eddie was a huge part of Beaver’s success. Without his character the show would not have been nearly as great as it was. I’m so sorry to just now hear of Ken’s passing.
same for adding Don Knotts to Andy Griffith's show! The show was empty after Don left.
I was a classmate of Ken at the LAPD Academy. He was a standup guy and a good cop.
Based on everything I've seen and read about him, he really did seem like a great guy!
He lived in Shadow Hills...Great guy.
A Fantastic Actor that people still remember 70 years later, unheard of!
Every neighborhood had an Eddie Haskell!
Ken Osmond was clearly one of the best child actors in all of televison history!
I will not deny that. But man, Billy Mummy, and Pamelyn Ferdin were in everything in their day.
I think Ron Howard and Johnny Crawford would have something to say about that
@@bara7331 I don't disagree. There are others as well, Brandon Cruz, Kim Richards, Butch Patrick, etc... I was just pointing out two that I saw a lot of when I was growing up.

Eddie was a wise guy, sure. But every once in a while, he could surprise you with small acts of humanity.
Eddie was my hero, watching Leave It To Beaver reruns in the '70s as a kid. RIP, Ken🙏

Rest in Peace Ken Osmond.

Eddie Haskell was one of the reasons the show was so successful.
I loved "Leave it to Beaver"and it wouldn't have been the same without Ken Osmond FOR SURE!!! God rest you and Bless you Ken!
The show was a classic. Eddie,Wally and the Beaver were historic and funny. This show will play on for eternity.
Don't forget Lumpy!
Great video. So many memorable scenes with Eddie but i think my favorite is when they go to the amusement park and they ride the Rollercoaster. Eddie starts out all brave but by the end he's falling all over Lumpy, scared out of his wits. Cracks me up every time.❤
Ken Osmond was great at the roll he played. He made the roll a classic!
Ken was a fabulous actor. I think of him often. Rip Eddie….

Ken was one helluva actor portraying Eddie to the hilt! He will always go down as one these most memorable TV characters! May he r.i.p.

I watch Leave It To Beaver everyday. Two episodes back to back.

I watched 'Leave it to Beaver' every morning in the 60s

I'll take a spanking 😂
Love watching Leave It to Beaver on TV in the mornings. Always loved how Eddie Haskell always annoyed Mrs. Cleaver who always was polite to Eddie ❤❤❤❤
This makes me long for the days of black & white TV's on legs with a picture tube and rabbit ears with aluminum foil 😉😉
Wonderful video! _Leave It To Beaver_ is one of my favorite TV shows
Thank you for the kind words! It's one of my favorites shows too. And I think Eddie Haskell is such a great character. He adds so much to the show.
Eddie Haskell is of my five favorite sitcom supporting actors including George Costanza, Frank Burns, Barney Fife and Norm from Cheers.
Eddie could always gaslight anyone, which made the character so unique. I remember in the USCG wearing a shirt with his photo on it when on liberty. Amazing how many did not know who he was.
All American Entertainer and Hero.
Ken's autobiography is a great read. A very intelligent guy.

His assholish laugh and head nod was priceless!!!
Eddie Haskell. The best Sit Com character ever.
Great vid!!!!!! 👍👍
Still my favorite TV show, Leave It To Beaver 🙂
Thank you so much for watching 🙂 It's one of my favorites too!

i grew up watching Eddie and the Bever. Great memories. Good to hear he had a good life after TV
I think its cool that Ken was an LAPD motor officer!

Having the same last name " eddie" was one of my nicknames.
me and my friend chris wong enjoyed this show.
A true pioneer.
He was an a-hole before that was even a word.
❤❤❤ Ken Osmond LAPD! FIDELIS AD MORTEM ❤🙏
What a good American 👍

Eddie Rascal. Difficult to forget.

Yes ma’am Mrs Cleaver Wallace and I will not be spiking the punch at the dance.

My son had a friend like Eddie
Oh no! Was he always ready to blurt out a superficial compliment? 😂
Where's the warden, Sam ...
Never forget Lumpy!
Another great character!
😀😃😄😍❤🎉
Good video. Thank you for sharing!

In the '70s, remember the rumor that Alice Cooper was Eddie Haskell? 😊

Eddie was the only character to tell it like is. Liked how the Cleavers knew that but went along with it. A lesson in tolerance.
I was the Eddie Haskell of my childhood neighborhood, but I was not "the" Eddie Haskell.
"My, that is a lovely dress Mrs Cleaver" (Thank you Eddie) "My mother has one just like it, but it's imported from Belgium" 😁

He was neat....along with Lumpy

I remember when he tried his hand at living on his own trying to impress Wallie by claiming there are two girls that cook him dinner every nite, ect.
Remember when he was rumored to be John C Holmes?
Yes!! What a crazy rumor!! I almost put that in the video, but I couldn't figure how to explain who John Holmes was and keep it family friendly 😂

Eddie Haskelss's salty personna kept the show from being too bland, gave it a little more of a reality feel.
Who do you think you are, Bobby Darin??? Heh Heh
