- Are attachments interchangeable between brands? | STIHL Kombi, ECHO PAS & Milwaukee Quick LOK
In this video I talk about attachment capable tools like the STIHL KOMBI system, or ECHO PAS (professional attachment series) system or Milwaukee Quick Lok System. These are all fantastic systems that are highly versatile, with many advantages in cost and storage. In this video I find out the answer to the most common question I hear about these systems, and that is are the attachments interchangeable between competing brands?

Let me know in the comments below what attachment capable system you use in your lawn care business.
I use many different systems. I know once you wipe off the plastic nub on the Stihl on the concrete, the tools work interchangeably with Ryobi, Kolbalt, Black & Dekker and probably Echo too.
you take the end part off the sthl and put it on the echo then you can use the stihl attachments on the echo head
Thanks for this video. It was really helpful. I'm a writer, mostly writing on home appliances and management.
I couldn't find a single answer online to the question you answered with this video. Now my research can get a move on, thanks to you. I really appreciate this content.
Glad you found value in the video. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video, you kept me from buying a Milwaukee pole saw attachment for my Echo. Thanks again!
No problem. Thanks for watching.
Fantastic content! Always sharing helpful information, keep up the great work. Really enjoyed the video.
I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
@@LawnCareBusinessSuccess Always a pleasure!
Not a brand that I would use for professional lawn care, but pretty good for a home owner is the craftsman gas string trimmer. Craftsman and Troy-Bilt are both made by MTD LLC and the components are interchangeable. One major down side to the machine is that when it runs at high RPM's it has pretty harsh vibrations making it hard to hold onto. If you're going to use the machine a lot, spend the extra money and buy a nicer machine. You get what you pay for.
Yes you definitely get what you pay for. Thanks for watching.
I had a Red Max powerhead with hedger and pole saw attachments. I actually just got back from my dealer today. I traded the power head and attachments) ,along with a (backpack blower and curved shaft edger) on a new (backpack blower and straight shaft edger)
That’s cool that your dealer takes trade ins. Thanks for watching.
Just purchased the Milwaukee. That thing surprised me it’s a beast for a battery powered system. Just wish it had an ip rating so you don’t have to worry about rain.
Yeah. That’s why unfortunately I don’t use it as a main string trimmer . I’m in the Pacific North West. It rains here literally 80% of the year. I do use it for all my hedge trimming though as I can schedule that around the rain. Thanks for watching.
Echo PAS thanks for video, I have an old stihl paddle that the power head went bad. Guess I'll find a reconditioned power head to use. Thanks
Thanks for watching.
i like the expand it style connector and how there are a few brands that have the same connector including toro. if you pop the plastic inserts out of the stihl tool which is very easy to do they will fit in the expand it style connector. they also use they same size shaft so things clamp down like they should.
Good to know. Thanks for watching.
Do the Ryobi Expand-it attachments fit in a Stihl engine end?
@@MrKBujt1 This is what I want to know. My petrol/gas head died years ago, and they don't sell replacements anymore in the UK. The only option is a mains-powered head, which I have. Ryobi don't sell their 40V heads in the UK. It's a pity some entrepreneur doesn't sell adaptor couplers to prevent these manufacturers from locking their customers in to their connection 'ecosystem'.
Very helpful. Thanks
No problem. Thanks for watching.
Does the pas 2620 have to be run at full throttle at all times like the pas 225 to not have problems?
You need to check out the Makita Couple Shaft System. They have 3 choices for the power head, 18Volt LXT, 18X2 LXT (36 Volt), and gas.
Before long I wouldn’t be surprised to see 40 Volt XGT and a 40X2 XGT (80 Volt) power heads!
I know my Makita XUX01(power head model number) has the equivalent power to a 32 CC gas power head without the headaches.
Interesting. I’ll have to check them out. Thanks for watching.
Do you know of any other brand of attachments that fit the Makita couple shaft system?
@@jackbauer5710 good question. Also, 2 x large batteries on a long tool like that might kill some of the fun....
Does anyone know a good edger that’s fits my husqvarna 330LK?
This video comparison is very well done. You should of a done it with an Ego multi attachment to the Stihl Kombi. I've been burning to know whether it fits or not.
Thanks for the suggestion and for watching.
I have the same question about Ego multi-head compatibility with Stihl Kombi tools. Do you know the answer yet?
@@ncbuckeye2 haha, does anyone -- yet!
Does anyone know what brands of attachments work for the Echo pas 2620 and 225 powerhead? Besides Echo due to the high prices of the Echo brand attachments.
Posibly Sthil.
The couplers should all be able to be removed on each machine. I haven't tried it but if they fit on one of the other What's going to determine whether they are interchangeable or not are the shafts inside if you can get them to the lock then obviously they've work
Yes correct but as shown in the video the shaft ends are different. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for doing this. I run two PAS 225's and a 225 trimmer. I was thinking about swapping over to the Stihl powerhead because I like them better, but not going to happen if I have to repurchase all my attachments. I have the trimmer heads, curved edger and hedge clipper. I have heard from my dealer that you can change the carbs out to gain more power on the 225's.
No problem. Glad you found value in the video. Thanks for watching.
Dude just buy a Stihl trimmer not the power head kind the regular ol trimmer kind , take the trimmer off the end and your Echo attachments will fit they will not tell you this at the dealership because they want you to buy the power head kind that way you can’t interchange attachments
@@Paul-fy1yg I actually purchased the PAS 2620 powerhead and I am not regretting it. It is powerful! Thanks for he information! I have a FS110 4 mix and love it but it has the bicycle handles. I didn't want to take them off for everyday use.
Great video
Thanks for watching
Take the stihl trimmer head off the very end and the echo tiller head off the very end they will interchange but won’t clamp down as tight but will work
Will the different Echo attachments work with different ECHO powerheads? For example will the attachments for the ECHO SRM2400-SB work on my ECHO PAS 230 powerhead?
They should all fit but some will not be recommended for lower end machines. Especially the bristle brush and paddle broom, maybe even the cultivator. Thanks for watching.
Totally relevant. As usual.
I have the Honda versa tool power head….does anything but Honda attachments fit in that tool
Nope, only Honda for Honda
I'm trying to make an adaptor to convert square to 7 star spline.
FYI Milwaukee 2725-20 power head will accept both Stihl and echo hedge trimmer square heads. The new Milwaukee quick lock is now star shape.
Interesting. Thanks for sharing and watching.
I run my own business and have lots of different tools but I'm thinking of switching to an attachment system... Do you think having one engine powering multiple attachments could shorten the life of the power unit?
It’s possible but even if you have to buy another engine part I think it’s still a great option. Thanks for watching.
In my profession I always had backup equipment, even if I had to rent or go buy it, but I did masonry too, and same thing! In the first, photography, there's no second chance for that image: have to be ready, have the gear, be on the spot and ON TIME. For other things I've done, you make a new first impression every single time, especially when you don't meet your obligations. Take it from someone who has been around!
I have a whole bunch of Craftsman attachments, only the motor head is dead. (no compression.) Was wondering if Stihl heads will fit my attachments? Or any other brand? Might you know? The cable system is square, my attachments have a spring button that lines up with a hole in the motor tube. And has the screw to tighten as well.
Husquvarna 128ld will fit all that you have.
@@tonyrideout1722 I sure wish I could find a dealer closer than an HOUR drive. Someone told me a stihl would work but when I took an attachment to a dealer (another one an hour away.) there was no way it would fit. I have a feeling I need to just start over. Get a better brand other than CRAPsman.
@@artmakersworlds there are a few videos out there that apparently show they do fit. They did it with the troybilt model, which is the same as the craftsman
Any way to adapt echo attachments to craftsman unit?
Sorry I’m not sure. Maybe someone else will chime in if they know. Thanks for watching.
Ive got the Milwaukee and the Stihl KM 131. The Milwaukee is a great unit and I have all the attatchments for it. Im tree trimming with it, hedge trimming, edging, trimming lawns. The only problem ive had with the Milwaukee is when im string trimming a lot of weeds for a long time it overheats batteries and the powerhead itself overheats as well. Its more likely to happen on a warm day. I have swapped in a fresh battery and then the powerhead itself overheated 5 minutes later. When the battery overheats it just blinks and completley stops. WHen the powerhead overheats it starts cutting in and out badly and becomes unuseable and needs to cool. Ive overheated several batteries in my M18 chainsaw while making big cuts as well. I like the electric tools and use them often but they dont have the power or stamina of gas and not even close. I dont even bother with the Milwaukee when im weed wacking anything substancial anymore cause iknow the little bastards gonna overheat. I use my km 131 for serious weed wacking and my Milwaukee string trimmer for lawns and small patches of weeds.
I have heard from a few people that say it overheats. I have not experienced that myself. Even when using it all day in my business, but then I service small residential homes so I trim for maybe 10-15 minutes then the trimmer sits and has time to cool while I mow and blow before the next house so that may be why. I love the Milwaukee for hedge trimming. That’s where it shines. Thanks for watching.
Yeah I have the same issue with the Milwaukee - fine for small thin weeds and grass but it overheats with thicker grass and weeds - forcing me to get my petrol strimmer out to finish. It cuts hedges just fine + the pole pruner also great. The battery life whilst hedgetrimming is awesome
@@johnloran well said that’s exactly how I feel about it. Battery lasts very good while hedge trimming and cutting limbs with pole saw.
@Erik E are you using High Output Batteries?
I wouldn't say lower cost into machines because some of the attachments are very exspensive I have both the sthil Kombisystem 131r and the milwaukee m18 quik lok as well as the Dewalt 60v flexvolt attachment unit and the makita 36v attachment system also
does the stihl attachments work on your dewalt trimmer?
@@xjidanx I haven't tried I would have to get back to you on that question
@@AntonioClaudioMichael hello, have you got time to make a try?
Thanks :)
@@MrPickpoke what do you mean do I have time to make a try?
@@AntonioClaudioMichael to test stihl attachments on dewalt engine :)
Good info here, would you happen to know if the Ego and Milwaukee attachments are interchangeable? They both use a quick lock type of system.
I can’t say for sure. I have not looked at the ego system closely enough. Thanks for watching.
i am looking for the best electric system... trim, edge, hedge, chain saw... will be used for a small one man lawn care i want to start... any idea on run times per charge on milwalky... ? also cost of extra battery and charge times? thax
The run times all vary depending on the size battery you get and what tool your using. For example the 9amp hour battery that comes with the string trimmer will last for 1 hour but using that same battery with the hedge trimmer lasts for 2 hours. I did some videos on using the Milwaukee string trimmer all day and how many batteries I used then I did the same mowing route again another day using the big 12 amp hour battery to see how many houses I could do with the trimmer on the one big battery. Thanks for watching.
“milwalky” really?? 🤔🤷♂️😂
Thank you Julio ,great content. What about husqvarna another popular brand in the yard industry ????
Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to run any husqvarna equipment. Is that what you use? If so how do you like it? Thanks for watching by the way.
I own a husqvarna battery powered hudge trimmer ,it's smooth & quiet.
I see lot of husqvarna equipment at lowes for fair price 👍
What attachment best value for echo
I'd like to know as well. I have all Echo powerheads which are awesome but would like to purchase cheaper attachments that work in my pas 2620 and pas 225.
just got the new stihl and it has the same STAR shap as milwaukee.
Interesting. Thanks for watching.
Have you tried it with a Milwaukee to confirm it works? Could be a different spline pattern
I have an m18 system, however I am interested in still attachments. Can you confirm they fit?
Why was this video so hard to find
You in BC? spot that 604 anywhere
Yes sir. 604 for life. 😂 Thanks for watching.
Milwaukee is the platform I own and prefer (m18 and m12) but their powerhead system and the quality of some of the implements is a little disappointing. Powerhead overheats, pole saw leaks horribly and somehow the head cracked in an incident that I wouldn't have thought twice about had it been a stihl HT series gearbox/saw head. If I could recommend one platform to anyone doing more than light duty/suburban homeowner type work, I'd strongly recommend Stihl. The 131 power head is powerful and reliable, I've used and abused HT131 (dedicated pole saw, same engine) and it is a stout little beast. If you are a professional: The Stihl 131/133 motor is NOT a 2 stroke. It's a 4 stroke that uses 2 stroke mix to lubricate internally. Learn to adjust valve lash on your equipment and the 131 head,.like all your 4 stroke motors, will run flawlessly 90% of the time. The amount of people who bring equipment to service/repair shops because their valves are out of adjustment is mind blowing if you know how to set your own valve lash.
I can understand, from a business standpoint, why these tools use proprietary or incompatible couplings, but I'm not going to spend ~$150 to replace my Milwaukee pole saw accessory. It wasnt built any better then any run of the mill saw of the same type. In fact, it leaked like a sieve from day one and if I didnt babysit my guys and remind them to empty the oil back into the jug, I had oil everywhere.
All chains saws and attachments do the same thing. I always empty the oil after use. Whether it’s my Stihl gas pole saw or chain saw or Milwaukee chain saw. Thanks for watching.
Universally Dewalt
why don't you use rotary tool to fit Milwaukee string trimmer attachment onto RYOBI expand it 40v.
to make a square drive onto Ryobi expand it, Use a Rotary tool to make a square onto Milwaukee attachment for Ryobi Expand it.
CLoverdale? i grew up in cloverdale
Nice. I grew up in East Van. Moved to Surrey when I bought my first house in 2001 then moved to Cloverdale in 2010. Thanks for watching.
So annoying these manufacturers think they are making money with attachments. Make it work for everything and build the best end of convo.
don't believe sellers of after market parts that it will fit a sthil product
Thanks for watching.
I know I am not going to accomplish much on earth when tools that accept attachments is a concept that needs much explaining.
I appreciate your efforts but I feel like your 12 minute video should have been about 3-4. J
Found myself skipping forward quite often. Thanks again.
Thanks for watching and for the feedback.
Someone will start creating adapters eventually and make a living off it🤷🏿♂️
