Today I’m excited to compare two trimmers I’ve been familiar with for a while: the ECHO PAS-2620 and the STIHL KM 94 R. I’ll start by going over the benefits of each tool, followed by an overview of the coupling system for each. We’ll then see both these units in action using three key attachments: the edger, the hedge trimmer, and the trimmer attachment.

I've been using the KM 94 RCE for the last seven years to maintain a few residential properties and have the line trimmer, blower, 145 deg hedge trimmer, bent shaft edger, carbon extension, and pole saw.
I love the engine and agree its light weight is its big advantage, being stratified combustion design it is very economical, and being two stroke it is way more simple than its imo inferior 4-Mix big brothers. I think the Stihl blower is their standout attachment. It is impressively powerful with its triple turbine design and I use it for all sorts of applications apart from leaf blowing- eg blowing out my garages, gutters, cleaning up after any messy dust or woodchip producing jobs, and particularly sanding dust on exterior painting jobs after prep prior to painting- fabulous.
I recently upgraded my Stihl Combi suite to the latest version and was disappointed to note that the hedge trimmer blade is shorter than the previous version. Same number of teeth but they are closer together. I have heard a number of stories of the gearboxes failing and presume this is why they have reduced the cutting width. Looking at the Echo in your vid it the cutting bar looks longer than the Stihl which is a definite advantage.
I also note that the teeth on the new pole saw chain are spaced further apart than my old one. The dealer told me the old one was loading up and damaging the shafts on some of them, hence the redesign. It seems Stihl engineering, despite these being part of their professional range of products, aren't quite up to scratch which is disappointing.
My biggest criticism of the Stihl system is the poor design of the coupling system. The 'key' which aligns the two pieces is part of a plastic insert in the end of the male part and incorporates a sleeve for a bush on the shaft (which btw wasn't greased on my extension and is apparently commonly not greased from the factory on many of the attachments). Being plastic the key presents little resistance to deformation when the attachment wants to rotate which Often the edger, pole saw, and hedge trimmer do when I'm manoeuvring them. and from then on they key function is gone. As well, the clamp is the only way the attachment is prevented from coming apart. With grease from the shaft and vibration unless the clamp is done up very tight the coupling can drift apart from and if ignored can damage the ends of the drive shafts. Both the Echo/Shindaiwa, and Honda systems use a much more mechanically secure and positive locking pin which solves both of these problems. I really don't understand why Stihl persist with this poor design.
I recently upgraded my chainsaw and was pretty keen on the Stihl MS 261 CM. However in doing my research I ended up buying the Shindaiwa 501sx (Echo 501p), mainly because it was significantly lighter than both the Stihl and Huskie 550xp mk II, while otherwise offering all of the other pro saw benefits but without the shop service electronics, and comes with a 5 year warranty. It performs well for my application so very happy and hence interested in their equivalent combi system.

The 2620 pas the one thing I noticed over my 225 pas is way more torque allowing me to edge my curved shaft through anything using less throttle. However the 2620 pas does use up more gas when throttled up. Over all I like the 2620 for the power it provides for my attachments that the 225 struggled with. But on bigger jobs that require a lot of trimming I use my Echo 266 SRM that has better fuel efficiency and though slightly less power than the 2620 it still cuts through the stuff I need to.
The 225 are exellent to do hedges cause of its light weight.
