Pinocchio doesn't even look like he's made of wood in this movie. He already looks like a real boy unless you look really closely at his nose. The only way you could gleam that he's made of wood is from the sound effects

apart from Pinocchio's voice (obviously), the one thing that caught my attention is the "True Story" sub-title. by the trailer alone, this couldn't be more DIFFERENT from the original story, they just made a completely different plot, slapped the Pinocchio name for recognition and shoehorned in the fact he's a puppet, but the protagonist could've been almost anything and the story would be the exact same. I don't speak russian, maybe this sub-title is something from the english version alone, so idk
TBF, most versions of Pinnochio are different from the original story. The only one that really captured the original story was the Roberto Benigni version from 2002, and...yeah.
@@jeremyusreevu237 true that, but this interpretation goes the farthest I've personally seen, it really makes one wonder why would someone would even want to call this the "True Story". there's that one version where Pinocchio is a robot, but at least it uses the number 3000 to drive home the distinction and liberties taken
From what i saw, it's mostly based on the Russian version of Pinocchio, which is called Boo-ra-tino(Буратино), and that version has Malvina(the love interest), a blind cat and a fox lady (they are the antagonists who steal a really important artifact from Pinocchio), and also the sad-clown-guy, but I don't really remember seeing him in the trailer.
This version is pretty different from the Disney adaptation and the original story. I don't really know what the original title of the movie is, but it's not really common to call a cartoon in Russia something like a "true story". Most of the time the title talks about friendship and adventures.
Hmm. Here in Poland, the subtitle "true story" is actually used often for parodies of fairytales - "Hoodwinked!" for instance was translated as "Red Riding Hood - true story"
Before writing this comment I was going to point how it's common, but now that I think about it, I haven't heard of English movies/dubs doing that. Maybe the Russians are doing this too, and the English title is a literal translation?

Eastern Europe has produced many classic movies, not to mention children's movies. Die Kleine Hexe (The young witch) and Der Maulwurf (The Mole) are two examples of Czech Classics that many in Europe grew up with. So this movie is more of a joke compared to what has come before it. If you have free time, I suggest you look up some of the classic European work. There might be something new and interesting you didn't even know existed. I'm in danger of going all-out Boomer when talking about these movies.

Paramount didn't "pull any tricks" with the Sonic movie. Sonic was legitimately going to look like that if the fan backlash didn't happen. The movie had to be delayed because they literally had to change Sonic's model for the entire movie, because too many fans were upset by the way he looked in the movie.

Sony Pictures, which distributes the Russian version shown in the commonwealth of independent states (otherwise known as the Russian equivalent of the British Commonwealth), has long contributed to meme culture.
This Pinnochio film is such a Lionsgate moment, the only thing saving that company at the moment is John Wick.

I still wait for just accurate adaptation of the Colodi's book. The story in book is much more interesting and unique than in most of adaptations (or all of them) and is basically about responsibility and adulthood. I've never seen story beside Colodi's Pinocchio where the final task the hero must do in order to achieve his goals is just caring for his ill father (after saving him).

*Good ending:* the Guillermo Del Toro stop motion version does better, critically and even financially, than the Pauly Shore or Disney live action Pinocchio.
*Bad ending:* More people see live action Disney Version and/or the Pauly Shore version of Pinocchio and the Del Toro version goes completely ignored.
*Neutral ending:* More people overall see the live action Disney and/or Pauly Shore versions of Pinocchio, but almost just as many check out Del Toro’s Pinocchio and generally agree it’s the better version.
