(FREE) Tune your BMW N52 325i/328i. Bimmerlabs 330i Tune Step by Step DIY!

  • In this video I thoroughly go over the process to flash a BMW 325i/328i N52 to a 330i tune which yields more horsepower and torque for the N52 engine for free!
    For years the N52 community has had to pay upwards of $500 just to activate the 3 stage intake manifold found in the 330i when swapped into a 325i/328i N52. This is not an issue anymore thanks to the guys over at bimmerlabs.com who have developed a tuning software completely free of charge to tune your car. Only thing you need to pay for is the K+DCAN cable from Bimmergeeks, links below.
    This tune yields better throttle response, torque and horsepower and is a huge value for the money. It should be flashed on to every N52 car even if it isn't going to be swapped with the 3 stage manifold, simply because of the adjustments made to the valvetronic, vanos, fueling, etc.

    Hey,
    I appreciate the feedback in this video. I tried my best when writing those instructions to think about this from the point of view of a novice, but that is usually difficult.
    I see several places where I could improve the instructions to make it more clear. For one, I like your idea of flashing first, then doing the manifold swap. That eliminates potential issues between the flash and the manifold installation.
    Regarding error codes, naturally, you will have codes for the valves if they are not installed. This will not affect the engine in any way, except of course some missing power.
    Otherwise, 2FA3 can be cleared by default coding the DME, or just ignoring the error. 2FA3 doesn't affect anything at all, and in fact you can't actually code the DME anyway after 10 hours of runtime (basically when it left the factory). But running through the exercise of coding the DME, even if it doesn't actually do anything, will make that error code disappear forever.

    Hey man thanks for the video! I've watched it a couple times and hopefully going to flash the car here in the next week or so and install the manifold shortly after. I have to admit I'm a bit nervous about the flashing part and was going to pay someone to do it but with your video i think I can do it ...

      Go ahead just make sure your battery is topped up. Most issues I see are because of dead batteries

    Hey man, I can't thank you enough! I had my doubts that I could get this flash done since I'm really not that great with cp stuff. But with the help of your video I managed to get it done! Just need to take it for a rip in the morning to confirm and clear up any codes. Install the 3 stage intake manifold this weekend if all goes well! 🍻
    You should do a video on how to use Deep obd since it's not exactly user friendly!

      Awesome, tuning it seems scary at first but with the right setup it can be done. It should drive great once everything is in place, make sure to test your valves before swapping it so you don’t have to do it again if they fail.
      I might make a video about deep obd as it’s very similar to inpa in a way that it scans codes very fast and gets you the same level codes as that dealer software does. Obviously no actuating modules or anything but good for what it is.

    I watched your videos about installing manifold and tune they’re really helpful , out of my curiosity I checked the wires hanging on my 328i manifold with big and small disa valves as soon as I start the car both of them closed wanted to ask you if I really need the tune?

    Thanks for the guide. Unfortunately, I made a mistake with the flashing process and it resulted in programming state not okay fatal error and crank no start. I was worried that I bricked it. Using the SP Daten files I downloaded from Bimmergeeks, I tried to flash the dme using stock files to see if it will revert back to factory default, and it did work. I was able to start my car again. Hope this helps somebody.

    not saying this doesnt work, but after following this and many other tutorials/forms on how to do this nothing about this process has worked and after hours of troubleshooting i get random errors when running the rsa delete. im just gonna buy a tune or keep it stock. just happy my car still runs

    Very helpful video, got it done the first time with no codes. I still have to buy the 3 stage manifold from eBay and wondering where to find one with a good disa valve? Should I buy a large disa valve along with the manifold or can I rebuilt the disa valves somehow and make it stronger?

    Does this depend on which car the engine is in? For example E90, E92, E60 etc???
    Will this also work for an 523i? (177hp)? But the same engine N52B25

      Hey don’t flash a 330i tune on to your car as it is not made at all for the n52b25 and likely either won’t flash or won’t run good. For the 325 I believe you already get the better 2.5 n52 file as the 323 gets the garbage one. What you can do now is contact them through email or something and maybe they can put together a custom tune for your b25. We don’t really get that engine here in USA. Either way all the setup for flashing a custom file will be the same as this video

    What about doing this without the manifold as you noticed that the power increased without the manifold.
    2nd question can you go back to stock if needed

      Going back to stock is possible. There are files in the website for it but really there’s no reason you’d need to. I ran without the manifold for a while just fine. It definitely adds power without it too.

    I put it on my e60 528> 530 with a 3-stage manifold, but it didn't work, the car began to gain speed badly, tried maf and No maf, no difference, I don't know what the problem is

    I’m quite late to the party, my 325i N53 is already tuned, but I’m looking to do the 3 stage manifold upgrade. If the DISAs are working already, I shouldn’t need to flash the 330i stock software right? On the dyno, my car produced 257bhp and 325Nm, so this manifold should just increase the numbers if the DISAs are functioning correctly?

      The disas increase top end and bottom end power. This is why n52s with the stock manifold can’t get as high as n52s with the 3 stage. However this is my knowledge from the internals of the stock n52 manifold, n53 could be different but I doubt it. Is that crank hp measured by the dyno? If so then you could be leaving some 20 or more on the table

      If your car came with the 2.5 this one will not work for it sorry. You can message bimmerlabs though I believe there was a file to convert 523s to 525s in the works

      Hey, I dont know exactly what problem you're having but for me it goes like this: login, touch on projects, touch on the dme section after you made a profile for your car, then under software Id you can touch the dme and itll show the ones available

    I flashed my transmission with the bimmerlabs tune but my transmission wont change gears is there a way to get back to stock using winfkp. I did the 330i tune and that worked. I am using the pro cable from bimmergeeks

      Yes there is but you have to flash the transmission back to stock. There might be a couple stock files in the website for you to try and flash to stock. If it doesn’t work text me on Instagram if you have it @e92_william and I’ll try to help you sort it out

      The 330i uses the same software and passes emissions and has the same catalytic converters. Many people have done this and passed emissions

      I haven’t seen those before. All cable settings and everything right at com1 and latency 1? If so check your obd.ini in the ediabas folder, what does it say? Pretty sure it shouldn’t be lan and it should be std:obd

      You don’t need the cable per se but it’s just a well known cable with known quality, people have flashed with generic cables before with no problems but some have had issues. Could work just fine or not

      Hey this specific file doesn’t work for the N51 or if it did I don’t know if you could flash the car with it and have it run good. There are however N51 tunes being made now by Bimmerlabs so maybe you should email them and see what they say. The process I would hope is the same as this though

      What issues? The sp daten can be downloaded from bimmergeeks and you can update winkfp with I believe the coding tool.

    Trying to fine out if there is a remap for n51 since it already has the stage 3 already on it. Looking through used cars most of them are the n51.

      Don't buy a used car based on solely the fact that one might be n51 or n52. Most n51 maps are available through tuners like stage fp and active autowerke. Bimmerlabs as I have checked doesn't have an off the shelf free one but you should try contact them and see if they do have one. I've never tried flashing an n52 file on an n51 but I don't have one to test it on nor would I advocate for it.

      N51 tune is in the works. It would flash exactly the same way. Might not be free since N51 is different enough that it's basically a fully custom tune, but it will be affordable.

      You can’t use this tune for your car, you have an N51 which never came in the 330i trim level and uses a different dme than the msv80 in the 328, you have msv80.1 so the flash wouldn’t work. Get a performance tune for it there’s many options like stage fp and you already have the manifold so no need to buy that

    I just did this flash and the car is running good but my stereo isn't doing anything, it powers on and off but it's stuck on Aux, and no sound. Any ideas?

      My stereo started working again after about 30 minutes when I turned the car back on. Now just trying to see if I can get the check engine light off or not. Car feels way quicker, had no idea a tune on a non turbo car could make such a difference. Thanks for the video!

    So I tried flashing the msv80 no maf, installed the 3 stage manifold, and now my car feels really under powered. Going to rsa delete again and flash to the regular base tune and see if that helps.

      Yes. All my car had was a kn filter and charcoal delete which shouldn’t change anything

    I flashed this tune on a 2007 525xi and did NOT install a 3 stage intake manifold.
    Preliminary: Having a fast laptop REALLY helps. I did this on my laptop I use for engineering school and the RSA delete took only 4 mins instead of the expected 20-40mins i was seeing online.
    After the tune is flashed, i recommend resetting adaptations through INPA or ISTA
    I will say that while it does not throw a check engine light on the dash, it does throw hidden codes that show up on ista. The 3 codes are:
    1. DISA valve 2 isnt working
    2. DISA valve 3 isnt working
    3. The ECU code has been tampered with
    These make sense because i didnt install a 3 stage intake manifold so there are technically 2 DISA valves missing. Code 3 is a no brainer. I would suspect that this voids warranty so dont do this if you are under warranty. Other than that, the car runs fine and the lower power band feels great and its no longer sluggish at stop signs.
    UPDATE: After a month the car has thrown a service engine soon light (not the same as a check engine light) for the adaptations, however I have not found any problems driving the car and continue to drive with the light on

    I’d love to do this but my 328i had a n51 sulev and It broke so I swapped it with a n52 and used my 3 stage intake from the n51 already. So real question, would this work for me? My computer was programmed to run a n51 but now I have a n52 and it runs good

      I’m sure that engine is not running anywhere nearly as optimized as it could be. You will need a custom tune because you’re using the n51 dme with the n51 settings which can’t use this tune. The n51 uses msv80.1 and this is for msv80. I doubt you can successfully flash it since they’re different

    I’ve done this same process on
    my n52 6spd.. I can’t tell which is better AA, 330i maf delete bimmerlabs or 330i bimmer labs tune. I was using the maf sensor from the euro intake!. Let me know what you think is the better one👍🏽

      The MAF delete tune basically runs the engine on the MAP sensor, the two very fast response primary o2 sensors and the IAT in the MAF sensor itself. It just stops using the maf part which will lead to a smoother engine. Ideally you want to get rid of the stock maf and put a euro iat because it’s less restrictive. The AA tune is an actual optimization over stock 330i to make more than stock power, which is what the free bimmerlabs tunes are. However you can get tunes for higher than 330i performance by contacting bimmerlabs though they are paid I believe.

      Yeah that what’s I was thinking.. contacting bimmerlabs is the worst experience of my life. They reply 2 weeks later after you call them out on bimmerpost😂 too bad. I dont understand why they dont hire ppl to help and tune for cheaper to beat AA pricing..

      Yeah I think bimmerlabs for the most part is a 1 man operation so maybe it’s a lot of work. I’m sure most of the inquires to the site are just people with no idea how to flash the car themselves instead of stuff like custom tuning.

    Hey, thanks for this video, it was super helpful! I have German spec bmw 325i e90 (n52b25, MSV70) and wanted to do a chip tune to get a bit more power. It already has the 3 stage manifold, a bmw performance exhaust and i have inpa/bmw tools installed with a cable. Is there a way to do that with this process? I don't see a tune file when I log into bimmerlabs. Thanks!

      Hey so your car being a b25 doesn’t have a file to convert it to 330 because the 330 has the b30 engine. If you were to flash this file into your car it likely wouldn’t run good at all. I’d contact bimmerlabs directly and see if they can put together something for your b25. Sorry I didn’t specify this in the video but I didn’t know many people would try this on a 2.5 N52.

      I would advise towards installing the intake as the tune is made to make up for the extra air that you would be getting with the 3 stage but I drove around for a while without the manifold and it was fine.

      Your car already comes with this calibration basically stock. I’d recommend a performance tune from maybe stage fp, bimmerlabs, active auto, etc. You can do MILVs which increase intake valve lift by 10% and add 3 degrees of cam duration, car needs to be tuned for that. Headers do make a great difference too as I have noticed in my own car. You want to make sure your disa valves are fully working, by now they probably aren’t and you’re leaving power on the table while stock

      Grim the Grey i have no idea if it would work for the N51 as it has slightly lower compression, I was going to try this on a customers car but we haven’t gotten around to it. I think using a car to charge the other would be a weird way to do it and would cause more voltage fluctuations this way. Just get a Walmart 30 dollar charger if you’re worried about it or do it right after driving your car for a bit so it’s topped up.

      @@destruxandexploze2552 it does, It’s mostly related to the ECU & all related sensors and not the actual motor. Bimmerlabs offers tunes for many ECU’s, including the MSV80 and MSV70 which all 328i’s came with

      @@destruxandexploze2552 it should be there for the MSV80 or MSV70 depending on what year e9x you have. I flashed my 128i with the 330i tune just fine. Same is true for the transmissions. They're based on whatever module you have, so if you have MSV80 DME (2007+ IIRC) then you flash the MSV80 “30i” tune. The real question is why would you want to do this on an N51? N51 already has the disas and they’re activated from factory. You wouldn’t really see any change unless you get a real tune like stageFP or AA

      You can do it stock but I would recommend not keeping it like that long term as it’s mean to be with the 3 stage manifold. Also a lot of the gains are from the manifold itself

    So Ive read through all the comments and just out of curiosity will this tune code out the speed limiter? Knowing my car can only go up to 130 is a little disappointing since I have plans on building my 328i and with my 540i I can easily clear 150

      As far as I’m concerned it won’t. I have flashed cars that were limited to 130 and the guys even if they had more power after they still were limited to that speed. I believe that is a setting that needs to be changed deeper with a custom tune. It’s not something that is impossible but a stock batch file like this only changes what is different engine settings wise from the 330 so it’s light and fast to flash and obviously doesn’t mess with speed limiting. Maybe you can contact bimmerlabs and get a custom file that fixes that.

      Hey this file is a free flash that turns your 328 to a 330 tuning wise basically and utilizes the 330i 3 stage manifold if you swap it in (which you should as it completes the conversion) It gives more aggressive vanos, timing, fueling, valvetronic and much more settings from the 330 to the 328. It by itself adds a good amount of power.

      @@andreidavid5307 not really any cons at all as it’s an oem factory tune basically that lets your car use the 330 maps. You should install the 3 stage manifold as the tune is meant to work with the extra air it provides but it won’t do harm to run for a while without it. I got a few manifolds with rebuilt disas for sale

      @@autohut3720 I noticed on your video the .bat file was being ran from the location which you downloaded it so i didn't bother to relocate mine to the C drive and i think that was causing the issue. But after editing the script and adding a line to navigate to the folder location of the .bat file, it worked.

      @@stickledrone1565 I sell mines with rebuilt valves that won’t break ready to go for 315 usually on eBay. I had never seen someone have an issue with the location of the bat file but maybe your winkfp didn’t like having to look for it and wanted a specific location. Did you flash everything already? If your car is 07-08 and a GM automatic you should flash the transmission file aswell, it makes a noticeable difference. Will keep what you had to do in mind in case someone else runs into that issue

      This will not work with N53 sorry. N53 has higher compression, no valvetronic and direct injection instead of port.

      @@bazejskupin382 I think you will gain in the low end because the intake flaps will be closed at idle which means you will be in the longest runner length but you’ll lose everywhere else as they won’t open and close as they should. This is how it works on N52. Maybe the N53 maps do actuate the flaps properly without tuning. I would recommend getting a proper tune for it as it seems people can get very nice gains from that and the manifold on your engjne

      @@bazejskupin382 it won’t run good if you don’t have the large one installed as it’ll be a vacuum leak. Even if your car just runs off of o2 sensor feedback it will pull air from the hole instead of the air filter

      Camden Kinard I gauge about half of the power from the tune and half from the manifold. So if it’s a 328i w 230 and you go to 255 about 12.5 each mod ofc that’s not accurate. Currently running not the 330i tune but the mafless one and it feels like a couple hp more and more responsive but try the 330i first

      Hey, don’t flash this on to your car as this is meant for the b30. This is an off the shelf thing for b30 cars that were detuned from factory. If your b25 is rated at less than 215 then you can probably find something for your car if you log your car in the website. Most likely not since this is catered for US cars

      @@dylancollins3005 what step did you skip? If it didn’t flash correctly I recommend trying with a file from the website where the stock files are shown. If that doesn’t work then I would go through the process again from start. If not it might need to be flashed back to stock through winkfp which I haven’t had to do before

      All I’m able to help with is flashing these base tunes on to the car. I’m not a tuner, my main thing is 3 stage manifolds. You’d want a tune file from any of the major n52 tuners
