  • The other day we went out to get a haircut in NYC’s Chinatown at one of its amazing barber shops. We totally shocked the entire barber shop with our Mandarin and Cantonese! A very funny prank and social experiment but also just a great time in general. Wishing everybody luck in their journey to learn languages, whether that’s Chinese, Korean, Hindi, Spanish, or whatever!

At 5:52, the man cutting his hair suggests that he go to Guangzhou to "look to eat." In Cantonese, "looking to eat," doesn't necessarily mean food literally, it's often an expression for looking for work, or looking for a source of income. So he might have been suggesting that they find a job in Guangzhou with their language skills.

It is not that hard to become polyglot. I basically speak & write 4 languages [French, arabic, english and Spanish]. I also understand some turkish. My tips for you would be to watch a lot of tv shows in their original audio with English subtitles and to start reading books later on. Trust me you will pick it up really fast. Of course it would help to converse with your friends if they speak that language.

Hi XiaoMa, when the Barber guy said “Wan Sek” in 5:53, he actually mean “make a living” instead of the direct translation of find some food. Previously at 5:50 when he said “chuang tian xia” he meant you could build a career out if it or make a living instead of have some fun haha
