I remember vividly when this first went out. It seemed the whole nation watched it. Everyone tried speaking in sentences consisting entirely of letters, people you didn't know did it in shops and cafes. The Two Ronnies were adored. Ronnie Barker wrote much of the wordplay material and the two together created hundreds of brilliant characterisations that you understood in just a few seconds and then played their parts with perfect comedic timing. Genius.

Thank goodness indeed; in today's PC world of crushing judgement and limited imagination you won't see their like again. V. happy that you love them and we can indeed thank providence that so many gems from the past were recorded.
To answer everyone's question, its all part of the joke, He is trying to teach Swedish, in Norwegian, using a German accent Its not meant to make sense, its just being funny :)
I think you’ll find telegram was the origin of text language, given that you had to pay by the letter and many correspondents had their own abbreviations.
i cant belive people are rowing about this its classic english comedy at its most witty! any one who doesnt get it should go back 30 years to a time when comedy was a bit more sophisticated than the bollocks of today
I don't know why the memory of this sketch popped into my head just now... Thank goodness for CZcams, so I could relive it! Although I thought I remembered Ronnie Barker saying D.X.S.F at some point, which is patently not in here, so maybe I've made my own up.
@@xr_nrtmstomp5139 But an extension of the joke teaching Swedish in Norwegian was doing it with a German accent, for an English audience, so 'Nein' fits all of that.

benny hill did loads of similar foreign accent stuff - e.g. "i was in a park looking at women sitting down on the grass and i see their pink knickers" (i.e. i see they're picnickers - women having a picnic).
If you like this, you'd probably like the two small books by William Steig, "CDB" and its sequel "CDC." CDB was published in 1968, before The Two Ronnies began to air. Nevertheless, these guys did a GREAT job with the idea.

Love the bit about needing to explain to the English audience what’s going on on the bedroom scenes !!!
Sweddish were renowned for liberal ideas on sex!
Ronnies Corbett and Barker, comical geniuses they were and their comical sketches always left you crying with laughter.
The Two Ronnies were absolutely amazing!
These 2 gentlemen r legends they brought a new dimension to comedy , rip 2 legends dear to our hearts ❤❤
In the late 70s two old men were doing text speak more efficiently than 21st century nerds.

Tonight we have a Swedish lesson for you but with a difference, it’s in Norwegian.
Subtle but beautiful 😂
R.I.P Ronnie Corbett :( I hope you and Ronnie Barker are giving God a great laugh!
R.I.P. both Ronnies. Open All Hours just isn't the same without Ronnie Barker.
He gave them the gift after all. How I miss them. Just saw the Inventors Convention and replayed it 3 times - cried with laughter each time.

No in swedish is not "9", it is written nej and pronounced "nay" as in "may" so the no makes no sense

No, that is not true at all, although there are some professors who are totally incomprehensible; e.g. those dealing with gender studies.
