Kamil, you have outdone yourself. What an amazing interview. Professional, insightful, personal, I can't say how impressed I am. Thanks so much for representing the T1D community and being a leader. Keep it up!
Thank you so much Bryan! It’s comments like this that make me keep going 🥰
@@Nerdabetic curious but r u a gay
@@yotty97 Very unnecessary question.
@@pl5735 just curious bro, i'm bi-curious
i cannot even begin to imagine how life changing this is going to be. great interview, im so excited ! you asked great questions :)
The best time for us to be alive... 50 years ago this would be a completely different story.
Great interview! What an amazing series! You’re so engaging and your questions really hit the target! Thank you so much! 💚
Thanks Joyce! So glad you enjoyed my questions 😁
Thank you Kamil for sharing your interesting Videos with us! Every video is a highlight for me! Greetings from Austria!
Happy to hear that! I honestly love doing these videos and it fills my heart to hear that you find them interesting and insightful.
Another great interview, well done Kamil.
Please keep these great interviews going.
Thanks so much for watching
Your video just popped up. So thrilled. I have had diabetes for 35+ yrs and pump therapy for like 20 yrs. I just received my omnipod5 and dexcom6 last week. Waiting on my doctor to send stats to a trainer to get my podder started!!! My cousin has the dash and waiting on her 5. She said it will be a game changer. I can't wait!! Your interview was GREAT!!!!
I love this interview. Great job young man! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Excellent interview! What a gracious woman. This technology will be life-changing. Can't wait!
She is incredibly gracious! Music to my ears that you liked watching this 🙌🏻
Great interview Kamil. One key quote I take away from this interview is when Shacey talked about the future , "Our goal is for a user to put on a Pod and put on a sensor of their choice....". Maybe that is a hint about their collaboration with Abbott and Libre 3??
In 2020, Insulet announced a collaboration with Abbott to integrate their CGM Libre into Horizon ( now called Omnipod 5)! Very excited indeed!
I'm in love with that Pod Wall art Deco.
Pleeeze! Bring OP5 to the UK earlier than summer/autumn 2023 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Great interview. Wish the CEO could have given insight and possible transition into Omnipod 5 system on users that are currently invested in using Loop as their only viable option for a tubeless insulin pump system via Omnipod Eros pods. Furthermore will Loop or a Tidepool version of Loop be compatible with the system? Thanks again for all your hard work and dedication in keeping us in the “Loop” with the innovations and future prospects in the lifestyles of Type 1 Diabetics.
Outstanding
Great interview
Excited and scared about this. My daughter is 11 type 1. I'm nervous because I get so many wrong reading on her dex. Too high too low sometimes 100 off . I'd love something like this. I just wouldn't completely trust it. And I know I'm not the only one. But it a perfect world how wonderful it would be!
I wish there was more of a deep dive on how the closed loop system actually works. For keeping the BG in range, will it do boluses or basal changes, or both? What is the algorithm actually doing and is that information displayed on the device?
"I want to address the Omnipod wall in the room" OMG hahahaha
First things first 😂
A great interview, Shacey Petrovic is very open-minded. One question I'm missing, is a connection to Freestyle Libre 3 planned?
Incredible video. I am excited for FDA approval on this as I just moved over to the Dexcom g6. I wonder how long the transition will be for it to come to Canada 🇨🇦.
Probably like 5 years I don’t think Canada even has dash yet
@@laceytomlinson7223 I think we have dash. But very recent. 5 years 🤕🤕🤕
Thanks so much!
@@laceytomlinson7223 dash is available in Canada since January 2020
I enjoyed the video but one thing I really wanted to see more detail on was the whole breaking free of the PDM device & finding out more about the smartphone app & will it also be available on iPhone as I’ve heard conflicting stories. I find the current set up with the Dash & the PDM being a bind as while it’s great to be tubeless with the insulin delivery, it still means that you have to carry around the secondary device, when the aspiration is to just have an Omnipod app for my iPhone (just like with the Dexcom G6) & run everything through that. For me, that is the game-changer here. Also, she talked about integration with G6, but by the time this comes out, the G7 will likely already be out, so does this mean that the Omnipod 5 will work with the new G7? One would certainly hope so as the technology develops.
Perfect interview, thanks for it. Does insulin in the POD not lose its effectiveness in 3 days not far from body temperature specially at a hot sunny summer day?
All insulin pumps use insulin for days. No, it doesn't become ineffective.
Hi Kamil, towards the end you mentioned seeing other famous people like Teresa May and Nick Jonas wearing diabetes tech. Is there a video that highlights a lot of those for people? And if not, would you consider making one? I didn’t hear about Lila Moss until I saw this video, but great to see it and know that it created a stir. Would love to have some similar people i know/admire that I could point to as well
YESYESYESYES this is what I want
Thanks!
I tend to run high levels but when I drop low it drops fast. To have automatic control to prevent the highs sounds like heaven. I can only hope it becomes available in the UK.
Thanks Kamil! That was AMAZING! 👍🏻🤣💕
Thanks Chris 🥰
Good interview Kamil. Can the Omnipod 5 be used without a Dexcom g6/7. Unless the NHS in the UK approve the Dexcom on prescription most users will not be able to afford the CGM, Any thoughts?
There is a closed loop trial to get reimbursed working currently in works so I think the future is bright.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
“Living out loud with your diabetes!” Love it! She’s great!
She is incredible!
Kamil, will Omnipod 5 works with G7? Or only with G6? Thanks
Hi do you know when we can elimate pdm and use iPhone to deliver insulin w omni pod
Will the OmniPod 5/Horizon just be a software change if I have a Dash, or will I have to purchase an entire new system
I want the pod wall. You need to do a diy on that
Hahaha it’s an amazing thing
Any word on if Omnipod 5 will be compatible with Dexcom G7? To form Omnicom 12!!! Or is it Dexpod? =)
and the comment of the video award goes to…..
and yes. They already announced a partnership with G7 last year.
@@Nerdabetic 😁
Brilliant interview. I liked to listen to it a lot. But Kamil, if possible for you, I and I assume a lot more would be interested in the company's opinion on how they think their product will be open to DIY loop systems. Or isn't it worth to ask because they won't give an honest answer? Maybe...
I can’t speak for either Kamil or Insulet, but from what I know of Pharma/med device companies, there’s no way she would address a use not cleared by the FDA in the USA and corresponding UK/European agencies. In the USA, if they want to make a significant change in the User Manual or marketing brochures, they have to get FDA approval. If asked, her response would probably be along the lines of, “the product is not designed, tested, or approved for that. We highly discourage people from doing it.”
BTW, this is my first time viewing this channel. Great interview!
Is it possible to find out how your dad made the pods light up I’m very interested in making one of these
Haha. Took the outer shell out and put LED lights inside 😁
@@Nerdabetic now I need to know how he was able to get the pod apart.I tried for hours with no success lol
Hi, doesn't the omnipod have a built in CGM?
When will the Omnipod Horizon be released in Europe?
I have the original one .love it..I was approved to Dash but declined it because insurance labels/codes this one differently so I would have to pay when the one I have is covered 100%. I would love 5 but omnipod I'd taking way to long so I might go Tandem
Will this be available in Australia
Incredibly bummed to see Shacey leaving her role as CEO. I much prefer to have an individual affected by T1D in one way or another running the company over a straight up numbers guy.
is the omnipod "Dash" the model/marketing name for the Omnipod 5?
Apenas en Francia me ofrecen el Dash es el uso pero no llega a los 3 dias? solo 2 dias y medio usandos 8, 7, 9 20 en basal con 200unid de insulina
Isn't there a recycling program for used pods?
Not 100%! Hopefully, this is just the first in many interviews with Shacey so I will surely ask next time if it happens 😁
They're used to be a pod recycling program but they discontinued it in the US (supposedly for lack of use). Terribly disappointing, really (they left the program in place in Canada). I now put them in my status disposal and the city hazardous waste program disposes of them.
Almost 25 years for me
When will be released please 🙏🙏🙏
Still under FDA review and as Shacey mentioned- committed to bringing it to Europe following the US approval.
Will it be an easy transition to omnipod 5 if you are already an omnipod dash user?
We will learn more about this when Omnipod 5 is approved.
@@Nerdabetic Got it. I am not yet on a pump (hopefully starting soon) and just don't want to sign up for Omnipod Dash right now if the Omnipod 5 is around the corner
I do wish you could fix (soften) the sound in the recordings. The echoes are a bit harsh.
What in. Is used for type T1
Where do I start if I want to go ahead omnipod dash therapy? Pen injections at the moment
Go to your diabetes specialist (doctor). Most ask for a blood sugar diary to see if you qualify for a pump. The one they're talking about isn't available yet though
@@minejager1818 thanks, I haven't qualified for a pump so back to the planet earth. Dash pod is around £300 per month. Maybe can sell a kidney 😂
@@RS-sj6tl , it is a disgrace how expensive things cost. President and Chief Executive Officer at INSULET CORP, Shacey Petrovic made $7,275,333 in total compensation in 2020. No wonder her dad could afford one.
Not the first AndroidAPS was! :-)
Your interview are amazing as always 👍👍👍👍! But please get a good mic the sound is always with too much echo... It s a hard for foreigner to understand English if the sound is not so good.... 😅
Jamila!!!! I thought you were using T-slim. I must have missed your change journey. I’ll look fir it. I want to know what the pros snd cons you’ve confronted. Take care, and thank you as usual!
Sorry kamil!
Seems like he uses several things.
You ate delightful!
HOw much dost it cost in total per mouth? talking about the Omnipod and sensor thanks
I looked it up. In the US without insurance, the Omni Dash reader is around $1,500, the pods (which hold insulin for 72 hours) are around $350 for 5, Dexacom6 CGM (which can be worn for 10 days) is around $250. Then you have to add insulin into the equation. I have an old Medtronic pump because I can't afford a closed loop system so I don't need a newer one. I change my Medtronic infusion sets every 7 days and I use Libre2. I think all this technology is great if you can afford it. All my out of date technology and I still manage to have a HgbA1C of 5.9.
Can you do a bite size dedicated video with a summary of the improvements pls?
I thought Omnipod was going to partner with Abbot, for the Libre, is this no longer the case? My son is on Libre 2 and is about to go on a pump and was told by his diabetic nurse that the two companies were in talks to work together.
@@hayleyboswell5070 they are but it’ll be libre 3 and omnipod ‘horizon’ (I think it’s called) which is going to be their closed loop system. Been in the pipeline for ages but still not confirmed release date and estimates are sketchy
@@hayleyboswell5070 wouldn’t surprise me if it’s libre 4 by the time they actually bring out the closed loop omnipod system
@@fyveluther hi, thanks for the reply, we’re quite new to Type 1….. just 2 months in but it will be great for my son, it will just make everything easier as he’s also navigating his way through celiac disease too… 3 months diagnosed with that one
Hopefully it will be soon hey 🙏🏻
@@hayleyboswell5070 tell him I said welcome to the diabetes squad! Have a look at other closed loop options because there’s a bunch available atm. If you’re in the UK the NHS post the criteria for pumps on the NICE website but if you’re already overwhelmed just speak to your diabetes team and they can point you in the right direction. Also the Facebook groups are always a great source for info if you get questions along the way
I love onmipod dash but omg the software is very buggy. please improve QA; screen precision problems; sometimes the clock stop updating, etc. Rebooting the controller fix them but… very frustrating because the rest is amazing from a product point of view.
Kamil, why will Dexcom7 not use Bluetooth 5.0 for longer range?
It would ne nice for parents
will pod5 have increased capacity...300U?
Sorry i Think just 200
I wonder how safe is to keep these machines attached to our kids body for the long run
Way safer than keeping them without the "machines" ;)
By the time this comes out the Dexcom G7 will be released and not work with it
I hope not I hope it's compatible with g7
Insulet already announced that G7 will work with Omnipod 5. Launch will be G6 but G7 will be added too. More here: investors.dexcom.com/news-releases/news-release-details/dexcom-and-insulet-announce-commercial-agreement-integrate
I couldn’t agree more and more so with those of dealing with type 2. This is often viewed with distant and oh if you didn’t eat so many food that are bad for you comments. Mine was caused by a drug I took ‘‘em they are to save my life. When people and drs say those things to my I tell them they are misinformed about how I got this and proceed to tell them why I have diabetes. Has it “ended” my life No! I’m alive because I took that drug and this was the trade off. I’m thankful to be alive but I didn’t cause this by my eating habits. Please work toward getting type 2s the right to have the technology to better control our diabetes as well. We deserve the chance to make our lives easier as well. #stillstickingmyfinger because insurance refuses to help me as well. “I’m not sick enough
I find it a little disconcerting she does not know the Dash pdm is not "like" a cell phone, it IS a cell phone. It is a NUU Mobile A1, which is an off the shelf burner phone. I think it was a clever idea, but maybe she just didnt want to get into, prolly cause admitting it was some else's product doesn't fit into her narrative about the tech they created. She is after all on here to sell her company/product.
That said, this is why it will be easy to enable phone control. They simply port their phone skin into a phone app. I imagine the biggest hurdle is security and therefore FDA (or whichever world approving body) approval. I am surprised no one has tried to hack their own app together.
Anyway, this product has been on the horizon for so long it hard to stay excited about it. But I cant wait till it does come out. I honestly dont even care that much about looping. Being able to leave the pdm at home and do eveything with just my cell phone is a game changer enough. If they can enable smart watch control, that would be the ultimate on my woshlist.
Ugh why is Canada so behind!!!!
I know it's hard to wait so long for new equipment. At best we have 1 years behind USA releases.
I’m using Tslim and I was on omnipod before and I was watching some videos and it just doesn’t compare so it I upgraded to dash now when the closed loop comes out I bet I would have to buy a whole new PDM and the Tslim I just plug it into my computer and do a little training online and my pump is updated no charge
I live in the US and can't afford a closed loop system. I have had DMI for 48 years and have worked like a maniac to control my diabetes. My HgbA1C is 5.9 and I have no complications. It seems so unfair that I can't use this.
Trulicity with an insulin pump
How much longer for FDA aprove this ?
I don't untherstand if the company gave them the reports of the trials and they were good why why it been so long supposedly 2020 was going to be released and we are Oct 2021 and still nothing 😩
Only FDA can answer this one haha
So Covid is slowing FDA approval in many ways including with all the treatments and vaccines in process there is actually a backup of the FDA process to have products approved.
FDA also has the new app for TSlim that will allow for bolusing only to the pump but how cool will that be
Too bad they can't focus on affordability.
100 pods per year, pcb microchip battery all thrown to the environment 😭😭😭😭
There should be a way to separate into multiple pieces to reduce this impact
They always will say it s recyclable but the reality is way different...
Yeah you lost me at equity and gender identity what the does that have to do with diabetes?
