What is mind boggling is the fact that a musician who plays western jazz adapts to Indian classical music so flawlessly, and yes! this piece of Lotus Feet played by this group will be a lifetime classic and will remain mine too.
This is my favourite version of “Lotus Feet”. Just these three virtuosos, as though the pure spiritual essence of this piece has been distilled for us. At 67, I feel so privileged to have had the music from these three masters in my life since the 1970s.
Yes, so distinctive. Beautiful beautiful sounds and very unusual to see virtuosos making eye contact, connecting, and with such joy and happiness in their craft/artistry. So happy myself to have come lately to this music through a friend this year at Keswick Theatre in PA.
I’m in tears. I grew up with these guys. JLP Renaissance Cosmic Messenger etc John w Mahavishnu, his works w Paco & Al Di. My dad introduced me to at such a young age and they played a major part in my playing. Now at 44 and to see them aging hurts my heart. However I find joy in that they can still share Heaven with us mortal humans. ❤️🎼 thank you so much for sharing.
You're most welcome! I was around 22 or so when Cosmic Messenger came out (LOVED the Enigmatic Ocean album too) and they all had much influence on me as well. Little did I know as a teenager living in India that my childhood friend there, Trilok Gurtu, would go on to play with John.
@@paulfischbach474 Go to my CZcams page? There is some footage I took at the (now sadly gone) Bottom Line in Manhattan of Trilok and his band during his stay with us back in the 90's. I luckily found a few High-8 cassettes a couple of years ago and had them converted to DVD format and posted them. :)
Simply Amazing I can feel the love. I love the look John has on his face when the other musicians are playing and he just plays chords the whole time - A sublime musician - stellar performance.
Extraordinary musicians, extraordinary performance, and extraordinary compositions; I believe these are some of the greatest musicians alive. Remember Shakti is also incredible, for those who just caught the fever for this kind of music; too bad Mandolin Srinivas is no longer with us; it would have been awesome to have heard Jean Luc as a guest, trading licks with the man who reinvented mandolin, became the greatest player of it, and gave it the ability to play long notes and insane glissando lines!
This song was originally on the overlooked and undervalued Mahavishnu Orchestra album "Inner Worlds".. The last Mahavishnu album. It's actually an album with some amazing gems... this tune and especially "The Way of the Pilgrim"..
Are you sure it's not "The Inner Mounting Flame"? I'm allmost sure cause I never had "Inner Worlds". But did have this beauty on one of my Mahavishnu records.
@@chosen_ones777 Nope... It's in Inner Worlds... which is the last 70's album bearing the name of Mahavishnu Orchestra.. it featured a newly purchased synth guitar and had Ralphe Armstrong and Narada Michael Walden on it, among others.

I've been a fan of Ponty for over thirty years and about as long of Classical Hindustani, so this is quite an interesting performance. I had the honour of attending the concert of Trio! in Montreal. Ponty is a powerhouse! Out of this world...
McLaughlin and Ponty are the jazz infusion Masters of all time. I have seen them both 3 times in the 70s No one comes close but never together. This concert is unbelievable . I wish l was there. In the next century when we are on are way to other planets. They will play this and their other albums. It will stand the test of time. Brandon McCabe Cornell class of 1978.🌎
Glad you just discovered these musicians, Yanick. I have known their music for, oh, 40+ years now -- but it's great to be able to enjoy them. They're playing at such a fine, rarified level, individually and collaborating musically with others. And it's reassuring to see that they seem to be alive and thriving in 2013, just 2-3 years ago.
+Sally F I was privileged to watch Ponty and Jon Anderson in St. Louis last night, and their musicianship has only become stronger over the years; Ponty was transcendal
I lived in Ankara for 3 years as a child, and remember my many trips by US Embassy Jeep all around Turkey as if it was yesterday, including my many stays at the Hilton in Istanbul. Teshekuraderim! :)
I have been listening to Jean-Luc Ponty since he started playing with Frank Zappa. And he just keeps getting better!~ I saw him okay live twice. Although, I enjoy listening to him the most while making love or relaxing in bed. So soothing and sensual. And now what a line-up! Brilliant!!
Saw Jean in concert in Cleveland a way way long time ago in the 70's. I was so fucked up but I remember I had a date and we were in the bleachers of the concert hall. I went to get some drinks for us (i was so fucked up from weed and alcohol and whatever i was doing then} and i came to the stairs and there were like 40 stairs and i tripped an landed at the bottom on my feet and people cheered me and held me to make sure I was human. I dont know how that happened but it did. I fell straight down 40 stairs and landed on my feet! I think Angela Bofill was as also in the concert ticket. Anyway I am still alive after all these years and tears :D
First time I saw Ponty he was on stage 6 feet from McLaughlin in his namesake Orchestra. The Apocalypse Tour, June 2 1975 Tucson Arizona. It was 1.5 hours of this, more dynamic and SO incredibly powerful. To this day the finest musical concert I’ve ever experienced. 🙏🏿🌹🙏🏻
We will never be able to turn the world away from the ignorance, we have tried in so many ways, and it doesn't strike an accord. Please understand that it is the human condition to not accept those thoughts we feel are different.
Ohhh my God ......John not Showing Off. Maybe the most beautiful guitarplaying, from my Guitar guru ever. So relaxed. I disagree with vv0422. Ponty is just a more western classical musician, but goes well into the Indian feel of this performance
Totally agree! Like a good wine, John seems to have matured with age, and mellowed as well. I think this is some of his greatest playing, ie standing back and offering the others a spot to shine.... :)

Thank you for sharing this spiritual music :)
This might just be one of the most beautiful pieces of music I have heard in a very long time - it's timeless actually.
I saw John Luc Ponty with John in Bristol UK in 1974 in the Mahavishnu Orchestra, i was 17 it was the best concert I ever saw.
If memory serves me, I first saw him with Frank Zappa. Such a great player! :)
mi piacerebbe sentire suonare quelli con il pollice in giù hahahaha. fantastici
So beautiful it brings tears to my eyes, damnn
Feel exactly the same way. A transcendent piece of music.
Both in their 70`s, John and Jean Luc are still a force to reckon with. I consider both of them the professors of their craft.
