Forever in my mind is this band (sans singer) playing at Harvard U. in 2001.I went with a friend who would be dead in months from Brain Cancer-he knew it, and came to the show anyway (his idea!) During an AMAZING performance, he leaned over, in pain, and said, 'I'm so glad you are here with me hearing this." I'm still getting misty-eyed thinking about it..Shakti and Martin Baker are forever fused together in my mind. RIP brother, 10/8/2001.12 years feels like 2 weeks. Thank U for posting this!

    Goddamn.
John Mclaughlin is so fucking special.
There is not a soul out there that could pull off this group of people co-operating to play weird transcultural music that they all believe in.
    The mutual respect is amazing.
You can see he's fully into it and so is everyone in the band. The cohesion is amazing.
Anytime anyone tells you the world divides down racial lines punch them in the face (EDit: OK don't. Just admonish them. Maybe that's enough.) and then show them this.
    We truly are One people.
I just lose it watching John. He's the real deal spiritual musician.
    Luv and Peace.

CZcams for being here and ktroxie for posting this. The later two songs are simply transcendent. Srinivas's playing is extraordinary and JM's licks are among his most delicious. This sound is a form of fusion, melding genres from everywhere. Over the last 50 years the music world has been morphing from a local/nationalistic tempo and style to a global and human-holistic and inclusive sound. Most of my life (when it comes to music) I have been hoping and expecting this trend. Besides our intellectual acuity, our ability for music singles us out as truly unique and may be the only instrument for human peace.

I mean this man has turned music around a number of times, and no matter which direction he chooses to go he always comes up with another plateau for us mortals to dream about.I think the song Chuck Berry made all those years ago was a proclamation of what was to come,Johnny B.Goode,or Johnny go go go.The master of masters.

Those complaining about the choices of cameraman and editors probably forget that this was not meant to be televised and the editor is probably using footage shot during live performances to be projected on the big screen. Since the audience is already getting a view of entire group it explains the strange choice of closeups only. But this music is for soul close your eyes and nothing is distracting.
