this is the picked up version of the life with larry also notice its just a few years before family guy and its still seth mcfarlanes characters and voices. these are characters that became family guy..
"I didn't spend twelve years in kindergarten because I'm stupid!" "Why then?" "I got my foot stuck in the radiator." You have no clue how much I laughed when I first heard that many years ago lmao.

hell, the previous larry pilot "life of larry" has a bit more family guy relations! larry's wife is named "lois", and they have a son named milt, who is obviously a precursor to Chris. no meg tho... and some of the gags were used in family guy too. such as the part where larry and his family goes to see Philadelphia, and larry starts cracking up at tom Hanks saying "i have aids"... or the drive by arguments, where the Brit drives up to a man and says "i disagree"... goes to show when Seth MacFarlane makes a joke that he thinks is funny, it sticks in his mind for later use.
Except for the overtly adult themes. It didn't work because it had the same humour as some of the few higher-brow jokes on Family Guy but combined it with Warner Brothers Animaniacs-style animation that had always been a staple in children's cartoons instead of the less over-the-top style that Family Guy employs.
Yeah I wish we got more episodes. And I don't know about understanding the jokes, depends on the kid; but it had a pretty fast-paced way of telling the jokes which I think younger kids would've appreciated, but yeah, kind of strikes me as something teenagers would've appreciated more, like Invader Zim and Daria.
I vividly remember seeing this pilot quite a few times back in the mid 90's on cartoon network, always hoping they would make more episodes. Now, all these years later, to find out that this was essentially the prototype for Family Guy!
Thank you Seth McFarlane. You're cartoons are hilarious, and I'm glad that this show spawned Family Guy, which spawned the Cleveland Show. So, once again, thank you.
I wonder what would have happened if things were slightly different if CN had picked this up as a show? would family guy have ever been made had Larry and Steve taken off?
dannytheman1313 If adult swim launched maybe in 1999 and not 2001, then this could have possibly stayed on Cartoon Network. Seth moved over to Fox since he could not keep the adult content in the show at the time. But hey, at least Family Guy is now on Adult Swim.
Ryan Good I suppose so but part of the fun of a lot of these kinds of shows back then was seeing how much adult humor they could cram into it before the sensors told them to stop. I feel like this could have been a real test for him to see if he could do family guy style jokes in a kids show. Hell even when family guy first started it was interesting to see how many dirt jokes they could slip in, now they just outright do whatever they want because they know they can't get canceled
"Honey I think I know what I'm talking about. Alright. Alright. I didn't spend 12 years in kindergarten because I'm stupid." - Larry "... What?" - Steve That part cracked me up
This was _very_ witty for a kid's show and with a noticeable amount of adult humor, like the "euthanasia"/"youth in asia" joke, and the Scotsman with "xenophobic" in his name. I can see how this evolved into Family Guy.
That line about Larry being in kindergarten for 12 years because he got his foot caught in the radiator sounds like something Peter would say on any given episode of Family Guy (particularly the early ones where Brian and Peter were friends and Stewie was the evil loner in the house who tried to kill Lois and/or achieve world domination).
I remember watching this! I even remembered some of the lines word-for-word. For some reason I didn't remember the voices were the same as Family Guy years later until now!
"How do you feel, Steve?" "Like Agamemnon after the fury of Clytemnestra." "Ha, ye... Who?" "It's a tragedy." Didn't understand that as a child, but I love that so much now as an adult.
Seth McFarlane ... you do this series now or there will be dire consequences for the lost souls that are in their thirties now, waiting for a show that's not coming. We need this.
Larry: Hey Steve, what cha' doing? Oh, you know your tripod is loose. **Readjusts Tripod** Larry: There we go. **Screen goes haywire** Larry: Whoops. Steve: Idiot. Imagine if it was Family Guy, there would be fighting at the end.
Basically a clean Family Guy version for kids lol
This is way too clever for kids....most kids wouldn't find this funny.
Tez Wint Incorporated I found this humorous from a young age but didn't really understand all the jokes until I got older
Carterhj1114 so what? Kids nowadays say "fuck" more than "candy"
And somehow funnier and more adult than the show for adults
not to CZcamss standards
Steve should have been Brian's replacement instead of Vinny.
Its a shame I can't like this more than once
Bradley Nylund Make another account, if you want.
Because I'm pretty sure Steve is Brian.
AJVersatility19 No, Steve is the African-American version of Brian.
