    What is a pinky ring?
A ring worn on the fifth finger also known as the pinky finger.
Why do men wear rings on their pinky finger and not on their index finger, ring finger or thumb?
For most of modern history, men's rings were always a symbol of wealth, social class and your prestige. Often they were worn to make a specific statement such as in a signet ring.
Pinky rings today are more of a fashion statement and an expression of your style than they are an association with tradition or to display your social class or status.
Additionally pinky rings were made out of solid metal such as solid gold in ten, fourteen or eighteen karat maybe sometimes even nine karat. You could also find them in sterling silver or in platinum.
In terms of the shape of the stone or the details for the engravings on the ring the sky is basically the limit. And if you look at my ring collection you can get an idea of what the possibilities are. Every once in a while you see a small diamond in a brilliant cut set to the left and to the right of the center stone which is a very classic look. Stones that are particularly good for pinky rings are turquoise, bloodstone onyx, lapis lazuli, tiger's eye, tourmaline, malachite and star sapphires.
So why should you wear a pinky ring?
Basically, for the same reason, you wear most of your other clothes and accessories. Simply because you like it and you want to express your own style.
    Pinky Ring Do's and Don'ts?
Don't go with oversized pinky rings
    Don't mix metals.
    Don't buy overly ostentatious rings
Do match the metal color of your pinky ring

There's nothing wild in it: many very old noble families wore their signets on either of the 'ring' fingers. It was the Danish custom of the mud-19th century to wear signets on the left pinkie.

@@gattodacatto my buddies family has a like 400 and something year old ring that's still going. You can visibly see wear on the band where it's thinner then it started.
Eventually they become rings you don't even wear often but hold history and like a tradition. The issue can be with multiple children. However you can always recreate old rings. But I also know people who won't wear old family rings because the designs don't always age well. So it always depends.
But having an antique heirloom Is always kinda cool imo. I'd still always get a new ring made for the new generation but that's me.

I see some comments mentioning the rarity of pinky rings nowadays, but where I live (Kuwait, and probably other ME countries as well) such rings are still commonly used, usually worn on the ring and pinky fingers, though to be fair they're more common with the older generation. Agate and turquois are the most popularly used, but you'll find other stones as well such as emerald, topaz, amethyst etc. as well as chinese steel. Personally I wear a small silver ring with a dome agate on top and a few very small turquoise stones on the sides :).

That was a fascinating video! I'm a young lady who loves Victorian clothing and jewelry-making, so talking about classic fashion and the history of pinky rings is very fun to me. My favourite pinky ring is one I was bequeathed by my late great-grandma; she loved making jewelry too, and she really loved the sea. The pinky ring is a wonderful little one with a silver band that holds a domed and polished piece of abalone shell, with these wonderful little art nouveau style arms reaching to hold the shell. I'm glad to know that when I curate a few Victorian menswear outfits, I'll still be able to wear that ring with a good suit without being anachronistic.

Love this video series, it has helped me step up my style game considerably over the last few years but I plan to break some of those rules detailed in this video. My pinky ring will be gold and micropavé set across the face and 75% down the shank, people are free to think what they like and that's cool if they consider it gaudy, it's definitely going to be in the eyes of older cats. Today a touch of flash on the pinky is perfect if the person has the confidence and style to wear it.

GG videos are my new favorite on CZcams. My father owned a men's haberdashery called Louie the Hatter in Detroit.
Growing up in Grosse Pointe, clothes were then always a big part of our lives. Kids in the nbhd wore paper gangster style hats for Halloween and I got to choose between a few authentic Dobbs fedoras!
I've followed the Mod lifestyle since I was a teenager. It began in London in the 60s and has more retailers, shops, and designers now than ever before.
Mod was based on modernist jazz and its sharp dressed musicians mixed with the American Ivy league look.
Some popular brands are Fred Perry, Ben Sherman, and Gabicci vintage.
Some staple pieces are the Baracuta Harrington jacket, Clark's desert boots, slim cut polos and Levi's Sta Prest.
Suits are usually three button, narrow botch collar, center vent and a ticket pocket. Most often light fabric in interesting colours. Trousers are flat front and narrow.
Please consider a Mod video, I'd be glad to help with the writing 😊.

Addendum: the same houston pinky ring was not a Masonic ring...
His mother, Elizabeth Paxton Houston, had given her son the ring when he had joined the U.S. Army during the War of 1812. Sam’s father had been an officer during the Revolutionary War, and the prospects of soldiering had also seemed better to Sam than teaching school in Maryville, Tenn. But in March 1813 Houston had been only 20 years old and required his mother’s consent-his father having died in 1806-to enlist. She had granted her permission, slipped the ring onto his finger and, if family lore is true, even gave him a musket. It was fitting Houston wore that ring until his death. The thin gold band had defined his life.

I think the 'match metals' thing is what's rather dated. What I mean is I wear gold rings, and a gold necklace. However my watch is steel, as is most quality watches, unless you go very flashy with a gold watch, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that in my mind. Gold is a classic metal for rings, and steel is a classic for watches.

Vintage is the best way to find mens rings. They don’t make ‘em like they used to. The 60’s and 70’s is a good timeframe for mens rings

Ignore the critics, the education you are providing us aspiring Gentlemen is of both tremendous value and unique quality. I shall pursue a signet as you have. I liked very much your smart-casual hybrid outfit which sets a nice elegant tone but with a relaxed Springtime feel that still cuts a striking figure as Gentleman likes to do.

You should only ever have one signet ring, gold, engraved with initials or family crest, though some contemporary youths have them made from silver

Great video. No ring has been passed down in my family, but we do have a coat of arms and a family crest. I would like to have it engraved onto a traditional oxford gold signet for my pinkie. Any idea where I could get something like this done?

my great grandad made a ring from gold he mined himself and it's came into my possession it's not made to be a pinky ring but that's the onkey finger it fits because I have big hands I really wanna wear it but there's a problem instead of a stone or anything like that as the center piece it has a small rounded shaped love heart do you think wearing it as a pinky ring put out the rong message?

I have a class ring from when I received my MBA in 2000. However, I've gained a little weight and now it fits best on my pinky finger. I remember when I purchased the ring, I got the largest ring size for that style (signet) but I think even then it was a little tight on my ring finger.

Can you tell us about, a blood sapphire. It is half blue sapphire
and half red ruby. And which finger to wear one on.
    Thanks.
