00:00 Introduction
When it comes to wearing jewelry, men often fall into two camps:
1. those who wear none at all and think that jewelry is only for women
2. those who wear too much
00:50 What is Male Jewelry?
Throughout history and depending on the culture, the jewelry that is worn by men can vary. If you think of the maharajas of India or the French kings of the 18th century, for example, you’ll see a lot of large, showy gems that would be considered feminine or over the top today. But, if anything, history has shown that jewelry has never been limited to women’s wear.
Some Typical Pieces of Men’s Jewelry
01:02 1. Cufflinks
02:35 2. Shirt Studs & Waistcoat buttons
04:00 3. Watches
05:00 4. Rings
05:38 5. Tie Clips and Bars Pins
07:12 6. Collar Pins, Bars and Clips
08:33 7. Chains & Fobs
10:06 8. Bracelets, Necklaces or Chains
11:09 9. Belt Buckles
12:00 10. Lapel Pins or Chains
DOs and DON'Ts of Men's Jewelry
DON'Ts
12:46 DON’T Show off
14:07 DON’T wear too many pieces of jewelry
14:53 DON’T wear oversized jewelry
DOs
15:32 DO choose the right proportions for you
16:01 DO select jewelry that has personal meaning
17:20 DO Always match your metals
17:55 DO make jewelry choices based on the occasion
Though some guys can get away with breaking any style rule, unlike clothing, jewelry for men has more potential risks of going wrong. Some men wear an earring all the time and pull it off or indulge in a bracelet or two, and when you are dressed casually you can stretch the boundaries.
However, within the limits of classic style, you can’t go wrong following these pieces of advice for wearing jewelry.
19:12 Outfit Rundown - Jak na to + styl
A few historically-minded viewers have pointed out that we used an image of Henry VIII of England when mentioning "French Kings" in the introduction. We readily admit the error (it slipped by during the review process), but submit that the overall point stands; monarchs of centuries past were known to wear more ostentatious finery than what would be considered "masculine" or "typical" of men today. Thanks for holding us to a high standard, folks!
- Preston
Henry probably claimed the French crown. M.
Which suggestion do you have for a older kilted gentleman? 🤠
Not entirely Historically inaccurate, Henry the 8th was King of France (albeit entirely in title) and under his reign did hold the French port of Calais.
King Harry did speak French, and I look to him as the original feminist (humour). 🇦🇺💐🇺🇸
I assume the thumbnail counts among the "don'ts"...😉
Honestly, you could really rock that chain 😂
A nice, gilded knuckle duster would go really well with it
I think that gold or silver chains look nice with a suit or tuxedo without a tie orbowtie maybe it’s just me
Has better resell value than most Rappers chains.
A man with enough brazen confidence can rock anything. But with great power comes great responsibility. SHOULD Raphael do so? No
I was thinking how cool it would be for Halloween! ☺️🎃
Wondered where the chain I use to lock my bike went!

I really love that he doesn't encourage people wearing expensive stuff and shows that being classy has nothing to do with the amount of money you are making.

Well you can actually get some pretty nice vintage watches for a decent price
@@magnusosmond1835 dog not allowed ect
@@magnusosmond1835 everyone has a phone now so I don't understand why anyone wants to wear a watch.
I wouldn't want to attract people that think useless things are important. 😉

I have loved this channel for years now but nothing has made me erupt in laughter like that thumbnail. 😂
That’s where the chain for the swing in my house went!
lol
The thumbnail was awesome!
Marie-Anne LeCoeur (whose videos I love) says that the three rules of French chic are: Less is more, keep it simple and quality not quantity. I think that's equally true for men as for women, as you so wonderfully illustrated here.
There are so many channels for women's style (which is great for me, as a woman) and it's good to see someone doing the same for all the gentlemen out there.
Would you mind sharing the womens channels you enjoy that are similar to what we do?
@@gentlemansgazette Of course! As mentioned, Marie-Anne LeCoeur (who is a genuine Frenchwoman and whose channel is all about French chic style - she's currently looking for people to collaborate with, as well, if you're interested!). Alyssa Beltempo is Canadian and talks about style and slow fashion, and Audrey Coyne talks about style and curating a capsule wardrobe. There are others, but those are my favourite CZcams creators to watch.
Gentleman's Gazette Justine Lecomte is a French designer working in Berlin.
For men more so. Typical men's jewelry rules with stones. Less stones but larger and better quality stones. And for rings it's often better for guys to just go solid 10 or 14k at best and go heavier and leave gems off. So beyond basic designs you're sort of left with very high quality and or custom designs.
I’m a woman so none of this applies to me. Yet, I’m here.
I enjoy your accent and the little history lessons.
Thank you!
I need to carry a keycard at work, and it came with one of those yoyo string things, which looked kind of bad, but I replaced the string thing with an old pocket watch chain that I attach on a belt loop and put the card in my pocket. It fits really well with a suit and it looks quite modern but in a classic way.
Smart move. The cheap string lanyards always pop eventually due to wear and tear. Replacing it with something nicer prevents you from losing your ID.

Awesome solution. Classy and practical.
Hahaha, that thumbnail is gold!!
That thumbnail.😁😁😂😂
I think necklaces can be very elegant on a man. A thin gold necklace, maybe with a cross or another religious symbol on it is a very subtle way of adding visual interest and character to an outfit, since it's only visible when the shirt has a few buttons unbuttoned. Both my father and my grandfather pretty much constantly wear gold necklaces and I continue the tradition. It causes many people to ask me if I'm a christian, and though I'm not religious, I do enjoy carrying on my heritage.

I'm an 11 year old and I got my 1st navy blazer today :D I feel confident in it so i feel like this is what I should wear :D

Frankly, I like jewels and I enjoy wearing brackets with jewels. I’m especially fond of my emerald and diamond braclet. I’m sure it was originally intended for a woman. I don’t particularly care if it’s traditional menswear. I guess it’s one of those rules I’ve chosen to break. So, I think you should wear what you like and what makes you happy. The reason I wear anything is because I like it.
Actually in the watch world, while people do wear watches with a metal bracelet for formal events, typically leather bands are seen as the more formal or nicer option. The watch itself is seen as the jewelry, regardless of the band or bracelet.
I always love the "do not do" lists. I'm always guilty of something but I do very well overall.

If Raphael would go full on golden chain rapper he would probably be called something like Dandy Raph or OG GG.
Sven always makes me laugh when he does the dont’s 😂😂😂
Please never leave us Sensei Sven! The world needs your teachings
When it comes to men's jewelry the more casual the outfit the more can be worn in my opinion. it also depends on what jewelry you like and what looks good on you.
I currently wear a silver/gold toned watch, a Morgan silver dollar ring with a silver stacker ring front, a sterling silver bracelet and a sterling silver rope chain with a sterling silver diamond and sapphire studded cross pendant. I usually prefer silver than anything else.
That thumbnail was a bit confusing especially before reading the title hahaha!
Thumbnail reads: "Men's Jewelry DO's & DON'Ts" Title reads: "7 Do's and Don'ts for Men's Jewelry" My questions are 1. What exactly was confusing? 2. How did the limited additional information in the title help to clear things up?
@@gentlemansgazette I think he just meant that a picture of Sven wearing a literal chain was a bit startling. Lol.
You guys....making the world better one vid at a time. Thank you.
0:32 : says French Kings but shows king Henry VIII of England.
😂
He wanted to be the King of France at least 😉 We should have caught that in the review process. Thanks for pointing it out, we always strive to improve.
@@gentlemansgazetteIt was just an observation! Not a complaint 😉
Thanks for another great video.
Would love to see more reviews of other clothing items like dress shirts, in a similar format to the ones you guys made on dress shoes under 300 bucks or navy blazers.
@@muahharhahaha Thanks. It looks like those other videos are not that popular, but we will still add things of that nature going forward.
He was also King of England in the sixteenth century, not the eighteenth, but what's a couple of centuries between friends!
@@Teverell What I said was all correct. The editor just used an incorrect picture and the reviewer did not catch it. Our mistake, sorry.
.
This is why I love this channel
Really great content! And never ostentatious.
I love your videos, I always learn so much. Keep them coming
Though it might be unpopular and clash with classic gentleman's wear, I love wearing a ring on every finger.
That thumbnail is the best. Made me and my friend smile 😂
I follow your channel for all 3 of your hosts, each of you do such an amazing job and I have incorporated a lot of your tips into my style and when someone compliments me on my outfits I say '' I love dressing well, and the gentleman's gazette ''

I absolutly wanted to watch this! Cuz its so informative!
Your video was both informative and engaging. I appreciate how you tackled it such a unique way. I've explored a parallel theme on Illicium London. Keep it up!
I am amazed by your knowledge on the subject!
What about walking sticks? There is almost no content on CZcams about them
Probably not much help, but you could try “walking canes” I believe that’s a tad more formal name for walking sticks, after a quick search I found a bit of content on CZcams
This was very useful. Thank you once again.
Very interesting !
I prefer a Tie Chain when wearing a Tie, as the swag produced looks more relaxed.
Thanks for sharing . . .
The thumbnail is priceless. Great video as always, I found it hilarious seeing Raphael wearing the gold aviators and chain.
i just wear two rings, a wedding ring and a Freemason ring which has been in my family for over 400 years, you are right, keeping things simple is the key.
Thank you! Great information!
Hello! Thank you for your tips, I am a jewelry fan.
I enjoyed not just the presentation but the way he structures his language to describe each step. Most of those things on this list just aren’t my style or I feel resonate with a lot of people my age mid late 20s and a blue-collar job. However it’s definitely good knowledge to know for when things take a turn for the better.
9:08 That double breasted vest with the double Albert Chain is absolutely stunning! Love that Poirot - like style.
Always interesting info. Thanks
“Aside from rings, cuff links are probably the most worn jewelry item today.” 😂 no way... not even close! Rings, watches, bracelets, and maybe a necklace. After that “possibly” a tie bar. You’re more likely to see guys wearing ear rings than cuff links.
Bro exactly, especially among people my age earrings are incredibly popular😂 ion never see no cuff links
JRWorldNetworkmusic yeah, cause the world you frequent doesn’t feature globe trotting executives in designer suits, I imagine. Believe it or not, there is a world outside your own...
Ken Cur I think earrings are a thing out side of New Orleans too bro
JRWorldNetworkmusic and what’s your point, exactly? Did I say they were not, “bro”? Though I suspect they are not “a thing” with the people I was referring to. So again, what’s your point?
P.s. my point was simple (though judging by your reply, it seems not simple enough): you “never see no cuff links”, because you “never see no people who wear them”, because you don’t frequent them, not because they don’t exist. Is it simpler now?
Great video, as usual.
Your sock collections are gorgeous!!
Superb !! As you so wisely said, less is more. Shows STYLE and Class. Wise man, you are. Ta !!
Great video very helpful, though I did feel like you went over chains and bracelets a bit short.
Would love to see a longer or just separate/in depth video on men's bracelets and chains.
Whahahaha that thumbnail 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Briljant!
You took the chain to a new level 😂
Very enjoyable and surprisingly non patronising! Nice one. Subscribed, although I still seem to effortlessly espouse the "just dragged of the wilderness by mountain rescue " look.
I appreciate the history referances and verry good insight into being a gentleman.
Great informative video 👍🏻🥇
Great video.
I would say that you can wear any amount of jewelry you want as long as you're confident in it
Great video!
Great video
I can’t be the only that loves when he says cuff links 😂
You are right about offensive t shirts political jewels there are times where you don't want to overdo or under do the dressing accessories
I agree 100% on the "not to wear big labels" I have never understood why someone would want to be a walking advert
That chain is fireeee
Great video learned a lot
I love my pocket watches I have been getting a lot of compliments lately. People always ask me if my chain is actually connected to a real watch and when I pull it out they are always like that is so cool.

I recently discovered your channel and I really enjoy it! I can't stop wondering what it is you do for living tho? Does anyone know?
Not sure why I subbed to a mans channel..maybe it’s the voice, but you do keep elegance alive, in men’s wear.
I was just watching to get a sense of the good things I'm doing, and the don'ts I don't care if I am or not....LOL.....great video.
I really like your videos. I love wearing suits.
Good Advice for over 50s .
Young men have so many different styles nowadays from goth to hip hop bling
I love you videos but wish you would do one on braces/suspenders, which I love. I find them more comfortable and they have become my signature style. I especially the Trafalgar limited edition one, which are little flashy.
I wear a silver bracelet on my right wrist, with a watch and wedding band on my left wrist/hand.
The bracelet was a present from my parents in my 21st. I also used to wear a thin gold chain, that mum gave me on my 18th, but the clasp needs mending right now.
you guys are doing the best for dress abc 123. nice!
I always like a nice pocket watch, Waltham is my favorite
I can’t look up anything without this fine gentleman having some wisdom to bestow.
Fascinating content as always gentleman! I use to be into jewelry more when I was in school but nowadays I think a watch is probably the farthest I'll go and a simple necklace nothing flashy. Keep up the good work I understand you tend to get preoccupied and can't always reply to everyone so I try not to take it personally but know that your content is highly appreciated.
I have to agree with you there, the only jewellery I wear is a watch - I don't like to look too flashy

0:30 On Right, Maharaja Bhupinder Singh who owned a Special Necklace called as "Patiala Necklace" which was created by the House of Cartier specially for him. It contained many Special Diamonds including "De Beers" and a number of rubies weighing almost a 1000 of carats.
Maharaja Bhupinder Singh was the Maharaja of the princely state of Patiala.
Patiala is now a city in Punjab, India.
I'm getting an amethyst ring for my middle finger on my left hand. Do I get a black ring to match my black baby gshock on the same side, or a silver ring to match my medium chain necklace, and hoop earring that is also on the left?
As a more feminine individual who likes to dress more masculine, this video was super helpful, I'd honestly never thought of the proportions of the jewelry in comparison to me, will keep in mind!

I inherited a pair of 1930’s vintage Georg Jensen No. 41 sterling silver cufflinks from my beloved Uncle Louie. I cherish them. Not only do I like the design, every time I wear them I smile with fond remembrance of my cosmopolitan and debonair Hungarian uncle.
Interesting. A couple years ago I bought myself a couple half suites of cuff links and shirt studs. I asked them why the sets were called half suites, and what constitutes a full suite. They didn't know, but I suspected the full suite might include waistcoat studs as you explained here.

Thank you Daniel Larusso San for your Style secrets :)
I wear a watch, a signet ring, pinky ring, 2 bracelets, a necklace and honestly men wearing jewelry is fine. Jewelry doesn't define the man wearing it. Wear as many bracelets or rings or necklaces as you like and have fun doing it.
Exactly I have a watch, a necklace, a bracelet and 8 rings...it is all quality material
The chain is big but gets a lot of compliments more so that anything else I own
Signet ring, watch and a meaningful pendant for me
