    I still thank Radz for what he did. He took us over, bought back the ground and training ground, employed Bielsa and took us to the Prem. However, he should have sold much earlier. I fully believe the clubs far further forward than when he arrived.

    People’s inability to grasp how much the players earn despite it being reported in the accounts every year is hurting my head now. If the wage bill is £120m and you have a 25 man squad, that’s £92,000 per player per week. Keep in mind that 3 or 4 of them will be young players like Summerville, Joffy, Gyabi and Greenwood who will be on about £20k a week and now you’re looking at £105k a week on average for a senior player. £120k a week for one of our international players is to be expected.

    The January transfer window turned out to be a real disaster. We desperately needed 3 defenders, as we effectively had no back line, but we got Rutter as a record signing as (presumably) a long term prospect, and McKennie on loan who clearly was not good enough. There were already signs at Juventus that they wanted to get rid of him. And then we got Max Wober, who did improve the team a bit, but Adams got crocked and we were shot. We bought these players while Marsch was still manager, then promptly sacked him when it would have been better if he had gone earlier. There were signs in the very first game of the season when he dithered and made substitutions too late. The day we won at Anfield sealed our fate, because it saved Marsch before the World Cup break.

    • @gyorkshire257
      @gyorkshire257 Před 8 měsíci

      McKennie and Rutter are probably two of Leeds' worst ever signings. McKennie is referred to by Juventus fans as a "bidone" which means wheelie bin. Whereas for all the talk of "we couldn't afford 40 million players", well when we finally bought one it was a young player who had potential but didn't seem much better than our under-21s.

    • @davidmarkaldridge9546
      @davidmarkaldridge9546 Před 8 měsíci

      Er, 5 windows in a row have been a disaster. That is the issue. You could even question the first with crap like Koch, Llorente and Rodrigo coming in, none of whom took a first team shirt and look competent., So in summary Orta and PL = disaster. Same as at Boro.

    • @gyorkshire257
      @gyorkshire257 Před 8 měsíci

      I would agree about Rodrigo, he is a great player, but couldn't play in Balsa's system. If he hadn't had a decent year pastime out, he would have been our worst ever signing bar none.@@davidmarkaldridge9546

      @@davidmarkaldridge9546 you're right, but if Leeds had obtained 3 stout defenders in January they might well have avoided relegation. Rutter was absolutely certainly not what they needed to help them avoid relegation. A massive error of judgment.

    Still think Orta was the single biggest issue. He didn’t have the intellectual strength to do the job. Any person that thinks they are smarter than everyone else working in the EPL doesn’t have any self awareness. He will screw up Seville as well.

    Once an owner or owners, listens to the fans, social media or the press to make their decisions, it's game over. The owners, if they do their research properly, know exactly what the fanbase of any club want or expect and they shouldn't and cannot trust journalists or social media to help in any way. Radz' fell foul of these basic, unwritten rules. Good chat guys, thanks.

    Leeds were relegated because they had no defence, but the most dreadful mistakes were the purchase of Kristensen and Firpo as the two fullbacks. Even before they were brought in, it was well known that Ayling was not good enough, but look at where we are now. Who was responsible for these picks? What was the scouting method? How were the transfer values of these players evaluated? What metrics were used to evaluate their ability as players?

  • @redhotgin
    @redhotgin Před 8 měsíci +2

    One of the points that never seems to get raised and which I think makes the 49's somewhat culpable in all this, is how much of this "American" involvement,ie.Marsh and signing all these MLS players was a marketing ploy meant to generate interest abroad rather than a footballing decision in view of how little premier league experience we were getting.Fine if it had worked, but unfortunately, neither the management nor the players were up to it.

    • @tomjohnson6810
      @tomjohnson6810 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I agree with you. The Aaronson signing and the McKennie loan deal in particular look like big gambles in retrospect. Surely the prime factor in each case was to try generate marketing opportunities in the USA. The fees we paid out were not justified by the profile of the players at the time. The Adams and Gnonto signings were good value but almost all the others were way over the odds and that will come back to bit the club on the bum at some point.

    Our season last year never really got going after the month off we had in sept when we had the postponement due to queen Elizabeth death then the other game cancellations/international break. If u look at the record we were flying with like 2 wins from 3 games then we never recovered from there and the break in with the world cup just complied it to something that realistically we were always struggling with always chasing the points

Leeds in a stronger position now than before and we need to get behind current manager and squad - won’t be plain sailing this season as you have 5+ new players that never played together in first team. Within 2 seasons good chance we are back in prem and with financial backers to put us on path to be a top 6 side given time.

    Considering we now have US owners, there is no way they would be allowed to get away with it with their NFL franchise. The number of PC’s the front office people do, compared to what clubs over here get away with, shows that we are way too lenient, and really more should be done

    The AK interview was interesting, but some of AKs answers were dubious in my opinion, the we couldn't afford Emery.....who cost Villa 6 million Euros, but yet we could apparently spend £35 million on Rutter....... was hard to understand and accept. Personally I think there was a certain point, where the club decided, we're getting relegated, and we're only going to pretend, that we want to change that. Not signing Emery, with that excuse, in my opinion confirmed that belief.
