Lucasfilm making a good film seems to be the real mission impossible.
They just haven’t chosen to accept that mission. Sadly, it’s taken much longer than five seconds for that message to self destruct.
How is it that I see you in every Drinker's and Nerdrotic's video Muff? That's quite impossible in it's own right
@@TrigonAZR
I can successfully complete impossible missions.
@@TrigonAZR Why do you find that so unusual?
Maybe the real Mission Impossible isn't the movie but about the friends we made along the way
I definitely agree with Critical Doggo's take on Kathleen Kennedy needing to go and she should take Kevin Feige with her. Very insightful.
At least Feige had a good run till Endgame but yeah Doggo knows best
All hail to the Critical Doggo! Always having the best takes.
22:26 I agree with Critical Doggo one hundred percent!
What, did he heist his leg and take a piss at some point, and I just missed it? 🙃😉😂🤣☠️
Woah. Hold up for a min. Hmmm
We live in a world where a Drinker video gets more views than The Witcher season 3.. And I couldn’t be happier about it

If only Hollywood could look at these Tom Cruise movies and actually learn something?

Disney: buys Lucas Films to finally have a brand for boys. Also Disney: eliminates/destroys all the male leads and replaces them with women. Men and boys: turn away from Star Wars. Disney: Pikachu face 😮😮😮
Writers: How have people successfully adapted novels to film in the past?
Everyone: Well, Peter Jackson stayed faithful to the source material.
Writers: Hmm... what else you got?
And I mean even Jackson changed stuff to make LoTR to work on screen, but the difference is he didnt butcher the core story.

I can’t wait for in 5 years when they make this Rey reboot and they portray Rey as an old washed up cat lady in her 40s and a new class of young Jedi males absolutely master class her in every field 😂

The young jedi will be fans of Luke Skywalker, and even when she tells them how toxic he was, they'll still like him, which will make her feel "less than", so she starts drinking too much blue milk, gets fat, and has to "get her groove back." That's the main conflict of the story.
@nicksimone there will be a weak one who'll be her pet with whom she's secretly sleeping with.
@@AliceBowie we have the outline of a script already 😂
Hayley atwell should be a bigger star. Agent carter was a really good show. She's believable as a kick ass heroine.
whoever replaces K.K. should have their first movie do what the Ghostbusters movie did, first 5 seconds of the trailer tells the audience "that other shit never happened and we'll never speak of it again."
her replacement will be her protege and worse.
Indy 5 be like:
Me fail mission? That's unpossible.
How do Disney executives not see how terrible their plan is when you are releasing 5+ movies a year that require you to break 500M box office on each just to stay afloat, and they would likely have to break a billion to actually be considered a successful production. When your whole business model requires you to get close to record breaking box offices multiple times per year, there’s a major flaw, especially now with how the economy is, it’s not realistic to bank on billion dollar box office numbers for every movie you make
Their shareholder s, at least the world level vampires such as BlackRock, always want more. And that is who the CEOs cater to.
Bc 4 years ago it worked. So they kept running it back.
@@JoshuaKevinPerry
In those days of Disney movies making a billion, especially marvel, they hadn't hired activists to take over their projects
They had story and characters that people were willing to pay money to see
What do they have now?
The tragic irony is that Marvel DOES have a TON of stories and characters that people would pay a LOT of money to see
They chose to skip over decades of iconic source material though to fast track the M-She-U agenda instead
@@JeThoreau_ that’s true, I’m not someone that’s read a lot of comics, but just looking at the catalog there’s some really great stuff they could pull from. I think there’s definitely something that was lost with their insane success, the marvel we know today was born from a company that was at the edge of bankruptcy for the second time and had a small group of passionate people willing to risk it all to make something special. That something was Ironman and they didn’t let that success go to waste. Unfortunately that success also slowly warped the company and selling to Disney didn’t help in the long run. Now it’s run by people who don’t care and don’t have that experience of fighting for something they actually care about, to the higher ups it’s just a job that pays a lot, and that unfortunately makes a hostile environment for anyone that actually allow themselves feel something for what Disney just sees as another product to milk dry and discard.
While I agree the motorcycle jump may have been over-saturated in previews, you could feel the excitement build in the theater as everyone knew it was finally time. When he jumped, the theater, the 100% full theater, was PIN DROP silent. It was an awesome moment.
Not taking away from a great movie but that stunt was done in Goldeneye first
How are writers supposed to write dialogue if they’re not talking to every day people? A lot of these guys are sheltered, college educated, elitist individuals that curate their experiences through social media and avoid actual in person interactions that may expose them to new experiences. They prefer to live in the void of their own heads without having world experience to fill said void.
Nah.. I'm a college educated, highly intelligent and socially awkward person with minimal social interaction with people an yet I can recognize my situation is not the world and can spot genuine dialogue and correct social behaviour.
That means these "writers" are just spoiled morons unable to write good movie. ;)
Not so much college-educated but university-indoctrinated in lies about how the world and human nature work. Lies which these fools believe unquestioningly. No connection with real life, just leftist fantasies that don’t work when someone tries to put them into practice.

Dead Reckoning was just what the summer needed. Fun, exciting and totally free of modern messaging. Just a great experience to sit and watch.
Plus, Hayley Atwell has never looked better than in this film. God damn...
She got the Black Widow treatment on the Peggy Carter show. A strong first season and then instead of going with the building up of SHIELD they decided the best course of action was to focus on her love life with a side of black matter.

One thing that could have made a slight difference for the better - that opening sequence on board the submarine, shouldn't have shown that the entity is situated on board the sub. Should have been shown the commanders using keys but not clearly showing they are the two parts that everyone is looking for in the movie - The ship is blown up, sinks to the bottom, crew floats to the top, don't show the crew's keys in close up.
Make it appear that the entity blew up the sub to stir potential war between different nations, then at the end, when Pom reveals to him that the entity is on board the sub, Ethan puts 2 and 2 together and realises that is why it happened - we have that end sequence where the camera goes to the sub and shows it on the bopttom, and we see the entity, and we see the lock that fits the key.
Would have made for a much better reveal and cliffhanger to setup the point of part 2.
Han's original line gets misquoted as being "I love you too" but the script was actually "Just remember that, ’cause I’ll be back." They wanted a way to say that without directly saying it and Ford came up with "I know" while they were spitballing ideas. Sometimes it is reported that he just blurted it out randomly during the take, but the conversation on set was recorded.
1:18:09 - I felt the same about the motorcycle jump. I saw it too many times on twitter beforehand that when it happened in the movie, it was just "Yeah, that's neat".
I can understand wanting to build hype for the movie, but it really did dull the impact of the scene in the actual movie.
Exactly! Imagine if they had released the BTS of the jump after the movie release!
Yes exactly, like they went too far milking the movie for content before it was released
I haven’t seen the movie yet, so I’m not taking a side here
But I have heard other people say that the marketing of this scene actually had the opposite effect - that, for them, it actually did make the experience of seeing it on the big screen even more impactful
@@JeThoreau_ I could see how that would happen for some people. If you don't know the behind the scenes you might assume more of it is CGI perhaps.

Mission Possible: Good Movie Makes Money
I wonder how actresses feel working on these films where the script just won't let them actually act, because their character never gets scared, never feels any sort of relief at overcoming terrible odds, never goes through any journey at all emotionally and just instantly wins at everything because it's so easy for her. Did they become actresses because they wanted a paycheck and fame, or did they become actresses because they actually want to act? Somebody should start asking them that in interviews, and on the red carpet. If they ever stop striking, that is.
Thing is, once upon a time you'd be 100% correct. Nowadays so many actresses are feminist activists, and the delusional image of them being perfect is more important than reality and actual acting.
Of course it's not entirely their fault. Media, social media, and society in general puts them on a pedestal no matter how unimaginative or unimpressive their work is. So they think they're doing something special even when they obviously aren't.
I will say, Emily Blunt did an interview in November where she practically parroted everything you said. Look up her name and 'strong female lead' and you should be able to find it. Was great to read.
Critical Doggo has broken all journalistic possibilities with their groundbreaking film analysis.
Kathleen Kennedy reminds me so so much of Catherine Zeeta-Jones’ character from Rock of Ages. Except for the sex appeal, singing and coming around at the end.. basically everything that is good.

You guys obviously didn't see 'The Pillars of the Earth' on Channel 4: Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Matthew McFadyen, Eddie Redmayne, Hayley Attwell and Donald Sutherland. It was very good.
Regarding the wayward (not so favorable) MI 7 reviews: one thing you guys (who are all fantastic) are forgetting is that this is Part 1 of 2 and no Mission Impossible movie is without its “expectations will not be met while hopes will” theme.
There’s no way these guys aren’t taking into account the AI’s ever-reaching-all-knowingness. Shouldn’t we assume Cruise blasting through that train window in a both ridiculous and highly comedic way is not just luck (of course it is), but also an opportunity to “outsmart”the omniscient AI?
I feel like they ran this discussion through its paces long before it became part of the lexicon, you know?
Happy to be wrong! You guys are great, particularly Drinker👍
What if the AI turns out to be the good guy at the end? Like, it was leaving breadcrumbs for Ethan all along, and had a plan to thwart who was controlling it?
Critical doggoes take on Indy 5 was quite bold, but maybe all the slurs wasn't necessary?
The gratuitous use of the n word by Doggo was somewhat jarring.
Slurs are always necessary
All the slurs are necessary, I assure you.
How can slurs be unnecessary, wtf are you talking about?

Obi-wan should have been a Fist Full of Dollars type plot.
Imagine how Dial of Density would've bombed if they kept the original ending, which involved Indiana waking up in his New York apartment, putting on the Fedora, and reflecting "this hat is perfection" to which fleabag responded "it will be once it fits a woman" and then she took the hat and put it on. Indy tried to protest so she aimed a machine gun at him, pointed to her eyes and said "look at me, look at me, I'm Indiana now" and then she put the dial in the hat and became the Retcon Girl, so she went to collect the Shankara Stone, The Arc of The Covenant, and The Holy Grail, but with all that power and awesomeness she became Miss Multiverse, and went to turn Lara Croft into a strong character while taking from her the Triangle of Light, El Gato from that movie with Stifler and The Rock, the mummies of Imhotep and the Dragon Emperor, and onto discover the cradle of life, and even King Solomon's Mines, and with the machine gun to embarrass every WW2 and WW1 and Napoleonic war male protagonist by taking down all the nazis in those movies before them...

I thought the airplane scene was brilliant. I also loved when Ethan crashed into the train 😂
And I thought it was made pretty clear early on the Entity wasn't at full power yet.
I thought Mission Impossible 7 was great in almost all aspects. Looking forward to part 2.
I wrote this on one of the clips from this episode, but there is evidence of the prequels taking place during the Clone Wars and being about Obi-Wan and Anakin going back to the 70s. Kurtz was probably only remembering part of the ideas Lucas had, which were constantly evolving. There is a list on yellow legal paper that comes from before TESB came out where the original movie is listed as "Episode 6" with Episode 1 being listed as a "Prelude" (possibly the "origin of the Jedi" idea Kurtz recalled), Episodes 2-4 being the "Clone Wars Trilogy," and Episode 5 being a "Prologue/Epilogue" before the original film. And there are plenty of interviews from back in the day where they talked about 1-3 being the story of Anakin and Obi-Wan. So these ideas of what the prequels were "really about originally" and that it was Lucas being stubborn and changing the "original idea" doesn't hold water.
This explains why Lucas shifted from saying there were plans for possibly "12 films" to saying there were "9 films;" he just eliminated the loose idea of prologue/epilogue type films being necessary. And then he nixed the original Sequel trilogy ideas (mainly Luke finding and training a lost sister in a remote part of the galaxy and then teaming up to defeat the Emperor) while planning "Return of the Jedi" and just crammed them into the last film (this is a fact by the way) because he became exhausted with making Star Wars films, especially after his divorce.
2:28:30 - 1995's "First Knight" with Sean Connery as King Arthur remains the only movie I ever walked out on! When Connery walks in on Guinevere and Lancelot, the entire audience in my theater just cracked up, laughing out loud, and you could tell, they hadn't intended the scene to be hilarious.
What got me to walk was the interminable fight scene at the end where they repeatedly switched between showing the entire field of battle to showing Arthur or Mordred, sword raised toward his opponent, to a close-up of one of the armies charging toward the other, then back again, over and over and over and over, to the point where Dragonball Z fans were screaming, "GET ON WITH IT!!"
2:20:30 on the censorship note, Netflix censored "Ferris Buellers day off " they removed the scene where Sloan changes at the pool, then later she asks Cameron if he saw her naked he says yes which makes no sense if this is your first viewing!!!
As far as censoring, I was introduced into anime by bleach and ghost is the shell. So when I say the rerelease of the ghost in the shell trade (or the thick book) I picked it up. Was told that it was censored from the original. Don't know what, I hope it was only some excess nudity that I assume was common in early manga.
I think Grace's character grounds all the over the top antics in the movie. She behaves as a normal person trapped in crazyville. It really made the movie for me.
WhoTF is that?
Vanilla Sky is a good adaptation... a good remake. I like it better than the original.
1:18:50 kinda goes back to the discussion regarding FPS in film making
Camera quality is almost too clean to the point that even practical effects feel like CGI
MI2 has John Woo's signature action, and Newton is great, but the film felt less like a MI story, and more like a Bond.
Can we get this posted on podcast networks?
Can I recommend getting Aiden Mattis from the Lore Lodge to come to the bar? He has been on Pop Culture Crisis to talk about films & makes a lot of interesting but good points.
1:16:12 The two intelligence agents were one of the better parts of the movie.
Im sure the live action "Shit Brown and the Seven Activist Hipsters" will do gangbusters and the House of Mouse will rise again.
I would have liked an Ethan Hunt POV for that jump so you could see him looking forward and then suddenly the bike drops away and the whole vista opens up. that would have really nailed that they did it all.
With Cyberpunk 2077 they were able to pull a No Man's Sky by the time Cyberpunk: Edgerunners came out and the game is getting a full "2.0" update for the DLC coming in September.

sucks that people get so worked up over spoilers. there are very few movies that can be truly spoiled. only 2 i can think of are 6th sense were a spoiler trully ruins the movie, and the prestige, but that one tries to spoil itself so the spoiler is mostly bypassing the craft of the plot.
most movies its fairly predictible what is going to happen in the end so the fun of the movie is how they get there. thus spoilers almost never bother me.
On mission impossible. The entire movie didn't need to happen. They had a hires pictures and model of the key before they even went to get it. If you have that much info on a key. Just make another one. Thats how keys work.
It obviously has some sort of software in it; the only one that could make anew key are the Russians, but there’s still logistical barriers even for them.
Wouldn't be exciting though.
A film with only one scene about key duplication. Kinda short too. A 5 minute film.

@@bobsmithy9024 That's not an argument; that's an admission of failure.
In regards ot the scale of the threat increasing in the mission impossible series (as well as movies in general), I feel you can honestly mitigate that as long as the focus of the protagonist(s) stays very small scale and relatable. The "He's not there to save the world, just one person" aspect. And to do that, saving hte world is somewhat required but thats not the primary goal, thats just a added bonus.
In that context, you can have big threats exist, but the story seems more personal and, as a consequence, relatable for audience members.
2:18:26 - I would agree but Cyberpunk made kind of a comeback with Edgerunners. When the series dropped, the numbers skyrocketed and stayed there for quite some time + now people consider it mostly fixed.
Buster Keaton, yes Chris I know of him and his falling side wall of a house, and him on the front of a steam locomotive, classic stuff.
No mention of The Last Kingdom for Netflix series? I don't know the numbers but it was extremely well done and kept fairly close to the books.

Drinker it's not just the fact that it was a drone shot that made the motorcycle jump less real. It's also the Orange and Teal filter that makes everything look like a fake Instagram story Post. That and several other filters they use to make the real shots look softer and more artificial so that the CGI doesn't stand out as much. It hate it too.
